running latest bootloader/modem question - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi guys
searched the forums but cannot find the answer.
I have a 935f and its running the latest bootloader and modem from november. i just got this phone and have rooted and installed TWRP, when i am looking at custom roms like superman and renovate, it tells me to "update" my bootloader and modem to octobers version for superman or septembers version for renovate.
obviously i a running a later version than both of these, am i ok to flash the rom without doing anything or do i need to downgrade my bootloader then flash?
if i downgrade will i have to root and install TERP again plase?
thanks in advance for the help

[Q] help me understand the root world a little more

I'm trying to learn more about the S5 root world. I am currently running the OTA NHA build, and am rooted using towelroot, and have the latest safestrap installed (also have supersu and busybox). What i am trying to understand is how the custom rom's work now. I just got the S4, and never had my bootloader locked since i rooted/rom'd earlier on and never ran stock, and i was using TWRP so there were no rom slots or the like; you downloaded a rom, wiped your phone, flashed it, done.
This bootloader/kernel/baseband talk is what's confusing me. A question that i've been trying to find the answer for is as such: let's say i have my NHA rooted phone, but there is an NE9 rom on the forum i want to try (extreme syndicate/alliance). Can i just flash that to a rom slot and go, or do i flash the kernel as well? if i flash the kernel, won't that mess with my stock rom, or does that just patch the kernel inside of the rom slot?
I already understand that chronologically, the baseband/build versions are NCG>NE9>NHA>NI2, so understand that rom's baseband is a version behind NHA. Someone please help clarify some of this for me

[Q] Do I need to upgrade bootloader before installing custom rom?

Hi there,
just got my hands on this international Note 3 and looking to root it and install a custom rom. I think I got all the information and softwares on how to root and flash custom recovery. but I'm just not sure if I need to upgrade my bootloader before flashing a custom rom? I don't even know what bootloader i'm on. but I do know that I'm still on 4.3 stock.
please let me know of anything that I need to do before flashing a custom rom.
thanks so much!

ok thank you!
I tried using kies to upgrade to 4.4 as i figured that would be the easiest way, but keep getting an error, so I do need to flash stock using odin. but I'm so confused as to which one to download. right now when I fire up kies, it shows this:
current firmware version: PDA:MJ7 /PHONE:MJ7 /CSC:MJ6 (ZTO)
Latest firmware version: PDA:NG3 / PHONE:NG2 / CSC:NG3 (ZTO)
can someone let me know which firmware I need to download from sammobile.com?
thanks so much.
oh please disregard. I didn't know sammobile.com had a place where we can search by country, etc. it's really cool. so I found what I needed.
thank you.
I was able to do an OTA update, so now I'm on kitkat 4.4; so my question is, now do I need to do anything for preparation in order to root?
thanks.
nothing to do
flash cf auto root and you re done...
thank you! you guys are great!

SM-N900V - OF1/OB6 Question

Hi guys,
I've rooted my phone, unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP recovery then flashed "cm-11-20160410-NIGHTLY-hltevzw.zip" (223.8 MB) from cyanogen mod download but it doesn't work well (really bad service).
I'm looking for a better ROM but I wonder if I can install OF1 ROMs with a SM-N900V (baseband version ending in OB6). More details: android version 4.4.4, Kernel 3.4.0.
What is the most stable ROM I could install on my phone? Thanks! :highfive:
Sorry guys, but could you answer? Is it possible to install OF1 ROMs on a OB6 SM-N900V? Couldn't find the answer on google/xda forums.

No WIFI on MM roms G900V Unlocked Bootloader.

Hi, I have recently rooted and bootloader unlocked a G900V and it works fine on Lollipop roms, but when the device is flashed with a MM rom via TWRP or Flashfire the Wifi wont work. IDK what is up with this. Maybe it has something to do with the baseband or whatnot, I'm out of ideas so I have to bug you guys for help, thanks in advance!
A little more Info I'm on PF4 baseband. Tried the Note5 port rom, the BS free rom and a deodexed debloated MM rom and all have no wifi. Ive tried the phoenix kernel, still no go. Tried flashing the PD1 baseband as its another MM baseband and it didnt take (via odin or TWRP ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) . So idk why flashing basebands doesn't work, maybe it'd solve my problem.
By using Getex's [GUIDE] Unlocking the Galaxys S5 Bootloader using DEV Bootloader [KK-MM]
and following the bottom subsection (If You Already Have Bootloader Unlocked And On A Samsung TW Rom) I was able to fix the problem.
Nice! Thanks GETEX!

Is it possible to update firmware with custom rom installed?

Hey guys, i searched a lot, on google and xda, but i think i couldn't find the answer to my question.
I have the latest unofficial LineageOS 8.1.0 Oreo installed, with TWRP.
At home my phone is losing wifi signal every few minutes and then it reconnects again, as far as i know this was already a problem with stock Samsung ROM installed. Now, since i rooted and installed TWRP and LOS i ask myself, if there is a possibility to update latest firmware / modem / booloader without wiping the device, respectively flash the whole Samsung stock ROM with Odin and root / the device again?
To be simple: Is it possible to flash extracted parts of the official Samsung FW package with odin or flashfire to update wifi modem / firmware without losing data and wipe my installed LOS rom?
All i could find was how to do this with official rooted samsung ROM but not how to update with an installed custom rom?
Maybe somebody can help me out here Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I found that somebody made twrp flashable modem and bootloader files! Thatd awesome, you can find the thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/guide-onelatest-stock-fw-csc-root-t3702963

I think you can update the bootloader and modem without wiping anything. Just flash thru odin. I'm on a custom rom by the way.
