Just want to be sure of something before I order a part I don't need. My screen is starting to give me issues touching certain parts of it. I.E., on the keyboard, the b key area is dead in portrait mode. Would this be the screen digitizer that I need to replace? I am assuming it is, but want to be sure.
Thanks...
Yes.
Much easier to replace the screen assembly

My XDA I has developed a spot on the lower left hand imput area, where it's almost a dead zone. TO get accept taps, I have to press down harder than I'd like to, and the recognizer isn't terribly accurate in that area anymore ( i.e., I have to write in a small space for it to be recognized ).
The rest of the screen is fine. Is there somewhere I can purchase a replacement screen that I can put in myself ? Can the touch sensitive area be replaced by itself, and the screen left intact ?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
Marcelo
Try http://www.pdasmart.com/pdaphone.htm
They sell replacement screens, touchpads, batteries etc. They come with instructions on how to do it, and there are other posts about this on xda-dev.
I dropped my phone and the screen now doesnt respond properly: The hardware DID successfully upgrade to the XDA ROM. But touching it causes the backlight to go on, - but most of the keys dont do what one would expect them to do: The phone turns on with a reminder from the calendar on the screen which wont DISMISS or CLOSE. Pressing on the windows logo and then on the phone key causes the calendar to come up and I am not sure which numbers are entered when I do manage to get the phone to come onto the screen (none of the right hand numbers seem to work at all). Does anyone recognise these symptoms and/or could they just show that my SX-56 needs the ROM RE-flashing? I should add that pressing the Master Reset button with this ROM in place seems to make the phone shut off and then when you restart it, all of the data remains in place. I wonder if there is any possibility that the XDA ROM has prevented the reset button from working normally?
A user on another forum said that to him, '"Sounds like the digitiser is up the swanee - have you tried recalibrating it?"
10-12 vertical black lines started appearing to the right hand edge of the screen. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. THere is usually at last one there somewhere. At about that time the screen stopped responding as I mention. Today the left third started displaying the same veritcal lines, though spaced quite far apart (about a millimetre). Screen doesn't APPEAR cracked: Does this sound like a digitiser and if so, how do you recalibrate it please or is there a link to somewhere on the XDA site which I cant find which might tell me? Or could it be the cable is loose in the circuit board? As you touch the lower right hand corner of the metal casing where the vertical lines are, those lines flash (the right 10 or 12) on and off. And every coloured bar everywhere on the screen or word of text has vertical lines on it (the white parts don't)??
Someone on ebay has said that his phone "fell from my pocket and onto the carpet and the screen cracked, I then used it for about a week" "I sold the screen to someone cause the wanted the touch pad part of the screen for there phone". and wonder what it was he sold or which part can be replaced on it? IS there a touch part and a screen part on this phone?
To be honest, itsounds like you have brocken a connection somewhere between the LCD and the gfx output, probably not possible to repair yourself.
I wonder where the break would be?
I thought that might be the case: I wonder if it would be worthwhile trying to get another screen?
I should probably try to take the unit apart and see if some break somewhere can be identified if it is a break as opposed to some electonic part having failed. It SEEMS to be in the lower right hand corner?
Hi mates yesterday i bought a used herm...with excellent condition. but when i opened any dialog. the window closed automatically. and the screen light remains always on. and touch is creating problems.
and after some time the touch screen totally stop working. i dont know what happened. al the buttons are working fine. i upgraded my t-mobile herm to its original t-mobile wm6 rom. and again the touch screen is not working. and the screen light always stay on..
so is this hardware or software problem.?
guide me if you have any clue about this..
according to my thinking.. i think some button is pressed continuesly.. but everything is working fine.. only the touch is not working.
broken digitizer for the touch screen, buy a replacement lcd/digitizer together and replace yourself, about $100Aud. Use Mike Channons site to download the service manual. Use the search function and type in "htc service manual hermes".
As for the light, you will have to use your buttons to navigate to settings>system>backlight>battery power and external power. you can select how long the backlight remains on for.
Cheers...
Hi mate thanks for your reply.. Actually the situation is that. the screen is working perfectly. all buttons are also working perfectly. but suddenly the touch feature stopped working.
that time i was just opening some menus and they closed automatically. it looks like that there is some button pressed. and the screen light never stops. it continuously remains on. all buttons are working perfectly and everything. on the touch feature is not working.
i upgraded my device with genuine shipped t-mobile wm6 rom and again it stopped at the starting screen where i have to click the screen and the device brings the window for stylus adjustment.
so i wanna ask that is this also possible that some touch drivers are corrupted or something like this.? or is this a hardware failure.?
Kind Regards
I had same problem, it was hardware. Thats why I said to change the lcd. It is theoretically possible to replace JUST the digitizer, BUT, it is a MAJOR hassle.
As for getting past the alignment stage, look up Remote Screen Alignment. Its a cab file that stores the alignment settings on your pc. You WILL have to have a friend that has the same phone so you can get their settings as you need to copy them to your pc first. You can then copy the settings to your phone so you can use it until you replace that pesky lcd...
Cheers.....
I had a similar problem with my hermes. After a lot of investigating, I found out that this is a heat related issue with the hermes. The unit will heat up an some connection somwhere gets messed up and continually registers ghost taps on the upper right corner of the screen, which causes the continual opening and closing of programs/task manager. This overloads the phone which then causes the screen to eventually become unresponsive due to excessive computing.
With my phone, it must be heat related because it will only occur during or after heavy use or overcharging. Other people have had this exact problem with the conclusion being overheating. The worse part is, there is apparently no way to fix this, replacing the screen doesn't change anything. setting your screen alignment very far left will fix the problem but then everything you tap needs to be compensated for.
Good luck, hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but it's better to know whats wrong and that you can't fix it then not know whats wrong and keep trying to fix it.
same problem here... only my hermes is overheating already after 5 minutes use...
in the morning it works and when i put it in front of the airconditioning the touchscreen also works...
somebody who has an idea where to look for a solution??

Some of the suggestions in the white screen thread/s might help. The problem is that those who have the heat related problem will find it very difficult to trace the actual fault. The heat may be causing miniscule expansions on the boards / components and connectors. The tiniest of cracks or poor connections can therefore break with the expansion.
Another theory is that rather than heat it might be a capacitor that is breaking down either over time or again through heating. Unless you are a skilled electronic engineer that is virtually impossible to check, particularly since schematics are not available.
You might just be lucky if you dismantled and re-assembled - it might just re-set a connector or adjust a board so it does not get affected in future. That would be very much a matter of luck and of course potentially the situation might be made worse!

Hi mates. I am back with some issue.. i moved my device to a repair center and he said that its a software issue. and he fixed my device without changing any rom.. i dont know how..
but again when i open some window like programs. the right scrollbar make a problem... when i move scrollbar it automatically press the top close button..i aligned my screen 3 times but same problem with right side scroll bar.
and after playing with it. the touch totally stopped.
now the thing is.all the buttons are working fine and everything is working fine. even sms and calls. but when i check sms and press my scroller button. it displays the right click menu instead of opening the sms. and the screen light is continuesly on. as something is pressed. so. i think this thing wil help. i am now trying this method to check my pc.
http://inuchanbt.blog54.fc2.com/blog-entry-99.html
check this out as well.
i will send you details soon.
might just have something lodged between the case and screen.. also to get rid of the screen alignment, cable it up and delete welcome from the startup programs and then reset it.. should get you past it so at least you can use it until you repair your screen
i am a newbie to this site. I am using htc hd2 and it worked good until yesterday. suddenly today the touch screen is not responding but all the other buttons working good. i made a soft reset, hard reset but no use still touch not responding. Can anybody please give the solution for this. I am having some important information in the mobile and i hided with file hider software. now i am unable to open it. somebody respond please.
The digitizer is most likely dead. It's caused by the power/end button on the HD2. You can try push the call and end button at the same time while at the lock screen and see if it will give you any functionality. Seen that helped for somebody on here before. Only other ways are to take the phone apart or to replace the digitizer.

you press both call AND end call buttons at the same time
If you get some touch functionality back you may find using MyMobiler (link in Sig) helpful in operating your device & recovering/backing up important files.
MyMobiler allows you to navigate the device via PC/notebook mouse/touchpad & keyboard thus overcoming the problem of dead touch panel.

Yes no touch response is s common for faulty digitizers. Yes you can do it yourself ic you want, but be warned the HD2 is said to be a somewhat difficult to take apart and put back together unless you are just very apt at doing such things. You also need to know that you can get a digitizer and LCD combo for a somewhst dicent price. If you have the T-Mobile 1024 HD2 you will not have to solder your new digitizer to the mainboard. If you have the EU or any other HD2 you will have to solder the new digitizer to the mainboard. This might help you make your decision.

how much it costs to repair approx
$200 I think is the average, if you have the T-Mobile version & can handle dismantling electronics it is quite simple to do yourself but care, some luck & research is required.
Hi guys - got a question re: potentially restoring full function to a glitchy digitizer panel I bought as a replacement for my original (broken) one. I know this isn't a Q&A forum but anyone in here is likely going to have more knowledge of the digitizer from a hardware aspect than anyone in the general Q&A forums..I hope.
I had no trouble installing the panel, physically - the design was identical to the original and I took care when shaping the ribbon cable so as not to damage it. My problem is this: My digitizer seems to "skip" one contact point on both the x and y axis so that there is a dead area on my panel which makes text input quite a hassle. I can get it to read input from the area if I touch VERY gently and very accurately, but other than that it takes input from the sensors around the actual point I'm touching, like its getting more capacitive feedback from those areas than from where I'm actually touching.
I hope thats not too confusing. Basically there's a nonresponsive vertical line down the right side of my screen 1" from the edge, and another one 1" up from the bottom going horizontally. At the point where these lines intersect I have a hell of a time getting it to recognize where I'm touching accurately. I've tried the HTC screen calibration tool to no avail.
I'm wondering if anyone has any tricks I can try to get this sucker working properly.. Its slowly driving me crazy. I saw one guy on youtube take a much larger digitizer from another device and take a lighter to the glass side for a few seconds, then apply pressure to the heated areas on both sides of the glass, sandwiching it together and (I assume) reattaching or more firmly attaching the plastic film to the inside of the glass. I don't want to try this without first asking if its wise here, and see what more experienced people have to say on the subject. I may be way off here and there's a simple fix, I just haven't been able to find one.
Help!? LOL..*someone* in here must have some experience with this, no??
Thanks in advance for any replies. Helpful or otherwise.
