Verizon Priv Getting Marshmallow - BlackBerry Priv

It's been a while since I've been on the site. I made the decision to get the Priv on Verizon the day it came out to give my tired Droid 4 a well deserved break from everyday use... well I've been missing around with ROMs so it really hasn't seen a great deal of off time. lol I got the phone think it'd be great to have a keyboarded up-to-date phone, but as everyone knows Verizon always finds a way to screw something up.
Maybe there's some relief on the way. A few users on Crackberry have received the update over the last few days, and it now appears that Verizon has officially announced it on their support webpage. (Can't post link because of new users rule) I'm happy with that, but they are a little too late to the game for my liking.

Update Received
I just got the message for the upgrade and did it during my morning class. It took around 30 minutes to complete and a few afterwards to let the phone settle down. The update took the battery from 97% down to about 73. Still messing around with the OS to see what all changed and any performance gains. By the way I live in Georgia.

Priv Marshmallow update on Verizon Wireless
Verizon has started pushing Marshmallow updates to Priv users manually. I think this manual soak test may be a whistle before the big action.

Just FYI... A few days after I got my update notification and actually updated (that was on 11/9/2016), I am having intermittent to regulary issues with media not playing on my priv. My experience:
1. Google Play Music will not play music. --- Never mind. I figured this out before posting this. I had the built in Google Play Music app equalizer turned on. After turning it off, I was able to get music to play through the speaker. Headphones work too (I have skullcandy earbuds - https://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-S...3&keywords=skullcandy+orange+earbuds+with+mic).
2. If you are like me and have saved ringtones downloaded over the years of having android phones... You have to place your personal downloaded ringtones into the alarm, notification, and/or ringtones folders on the internal SD storage of the Priv for them to work.
3. Speaker phone is great! Earpiece volume is great!
I have not noticed any other issues. In fact, I would say that the update was a good one. I almost didn't update hoping that I could root my Priv and get rid of some of the bloatware on it (Verizon is the offender as far as I know). In the end I was not sure if the Priv had the same dev support as the OnePlus 3 has. As a consequence, I updated the phone. I'm generally happy.

Blackberry Priv Verizon update
I am really glad to hear that Verizon has officially announced the scheduled Marshmallow update to Priv all across America. That's the great news!

thinking about upgrading to g2, but worried about anti-root

I'm still on my G1, but my contracts about to be up! yay!
I was thinking about upgrading to the g2, but it worries me that there is currently no permanent root.
the first thing that comes to mind is that I don't actually ever shut off my g1, so I may theoretically never have to reboot my phone, especially since this one has a nice improvement over battery life.
I find the hinge snapping down to be a bit annoying, but not too bothersome.
and having tethering removed is a major bummer, I haven't checked to see if you guys fixed this or not, but I suppose pda net would still work?
any other issues I should know about?
My main worry is that if a permanent root is not found then development for this device will never progress.
I guess it all depends on how likely this device is to get a perma-root
I'd like a devs point of view as to how likely he thinks it's going to happen.
also: i suppose another option is to wait a bit longer before I buy
pda net works. hinges on my phone arent bad. phone was designed, so that the keyboard could slide out easily with one finger. battery is great, performance is great, camera is great videos/pics, and this is on stock rom. this is my 5th smart phone and its def. by far my favorite. i think i have enough phones to compare and im a heavy user. i provide network support @ a FBO airport, which means phones gets USED alot.
that's great to know, thanks.
but I've just thought of something else:
of course it's probably a stupid question and T-mobile/HTC/Google(I can't tell if this is supposed to be a Google experience phone or not) probably already thought of this but theoretically: would the anti-root 'feature' prevent it from getting an OTA update for Gingerbread?
my main gripe with the phone is just the anti-root. I don't want to be locked into a phone for 2 years if it's software is going to become outdated
HTCs lock of the phone will not have any impact on OTA updates, so still expect gingerbread to be pushed to the phone, and likely not very long after release. Hopefully the OTA update can be captured and hacked by the community to allow for full unlock if it hasn't happened by then.
There are enough people working on it Im sure it'll happen, just a matter of time.
Even if you don't reboot, the phone will randomly lose root as the caches are flushed during normal usage.

You should wait for November 8th when Samsung announces whatever they're announcing. It might be the Nexus 2. Google it, it sounds like an awesome device. It should be simple to root too. I might exchange mine for it if it comes out within 30 days (I'm in CA)

I bet money on the Samsung Galaxy Tab... maybe they want to discuss more of it or that off 2-screened Samsung Android phone
thanks for the heads up. I can wait for nov. 8th.
the g2 looks like it would be one of the best devices unless samsung does release a "nexus 2",
I had a G1 for two years, then upgraded to the Vibrant a couple months ago. I got sick of the abysmal battery life and switched to the G2 a few weeks ago, and I am very glad I did. The root issue is a minor annoyance at worst. Having to run the temp root app after the occasional reboot is a small price to pay for all the other benefits of the G2.
Samsung just came out with the galaxy S series. They're not going to do another high end smartphone this soon. Wait a couple days if you want to be sure, but I have no problem recommending the G2 now.

Is there any info about OTA on Bell Atrix?

Is there anyone knows when the bell verizon getting the new ota update?

Can I use the att OTA update file to update my bell atrix ?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
No news yet ... very disappointing given that the bootloader is locked and as it's Bell we're likely to be constantly left behind by updates. Don't think I'm going to keep my Atrix much past the time when I can get an Galaxy S II.
I actually don't want the update yet. Because we don't have an .sbf file that means we can't have root at the new update.

I was twice the victim of the Internal SD failure. Both times Bell tried blaming Samsung, and Samsung tried blaming Bell when the issue was well known...
Mine died, got it repaired, running perfectly since...hardware defects happen it went about as well as it could have at least in my case.
We'll know very soon after SGS2 release whether GPS works. Myself I expect they won't make that mistake again, but perhaps some other mistakes as phones are never perfect....
Have fun waiting for Bell updates with locked bootloader...
im scared of no updates as well. Not sure what to do. Love the phone overall but if the phone is gonna be behind in the updates i might trade it for the desire hd/inspire. I wont however, trust any samsung product.
Its clearly a bit of a worry when you read that someone on the Motorola Owners Forum approached Bell, and asked about the .57 update AT&T got. The response he got was "what update??"
I'm going to be watching what happens over the next month. If AT&T continues to get updates, and the 2.3 update hits AT&T with no indication its coming to Bell, then I'm going to switch to an AT&T handset..
Looks like there is no chance the Atrix is going to be released by the big three carriers here in Australia any time soon either...
I'm finally finding out what a POS Motorola and Bell is using this phone.... I should have picked up the AT&T handset instead of the Bell one for sure

Like I said we'll know after release. Nexus S is most of the same hardware as the SGS, disappointing that they didn't fix it but who knows how 'deep' the problem was or what the timeframe was (they only released some 6 months apart).
One of the best mods for the SGS is BLN (backlight notification), basically lights up the soft-key backlights as a notification light.
If Samsung was really smart they'd pull that feature in to their stock setups, but really it will just be implemented by SGS2 XDA devs again.
A software update is now available for the Bell version of the Motorola Atrix!
- To download the update manually:
Go to: Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Update
- I'm not sure what the size of the update file is, but I would suggest downloading it over WiFi as opposed to the Bell network so you don't exceed your data allowance and incur extra charges.
- Ensure that your phone is at least 50% charged before attempting the update. Idealy, charge it beyond 50% to be safe.
-- The updated version is v37.23 and brings Android Froyo up to version 2.2.2, and contains numerous updates:
Upload Data Speed
Increased upload speed at which data can travel on the network.
Data and Voice Connection
Improvements to prevent interruptions to data and voice connection.
Screen
Improvements to prevent screen from freezing.
Skype
Improvements to call audio function so it is easier for the person you called to hear you. Please note this application is not pre-loaded on phone, but is available for download from Android Market.
Wi-Fi
Increased functionality by enabling Yahoo Email to be sent over a Wi-Fi connection.
Display
Improved International Roaming Warning Message by simplifying user notification so that it only appears on the screen when you move to a new network.
Happening Widget
Improved Happenings Widget to ensure that you receive the latest updates across the social networks you are connected to such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter.
Calling
Improvements were made to incoming and outgoing call functionality to ensure a more seamless experience
Expanded Language Support for Webtop
Accented character support within Webtop application.
Improved Support for POP/SMTP Email
Support for SMTP outgoing servers that do not require authentication
Improved Exchange Performance
Improved Exchange Email/Calendar/Contacts performance

Love this phone but.....

There is terrible speaker distortion during voice calls, Its fine during music and film playback
The email notifications keep disappearing.
Transition animations can't be turned off if you do, they come back on.
What samsung need to do is pick some real users on xda to test their devices before they are released.
I can't believe that they don't foresee the problems that the device could have and the main reason for losing some good customers to other brands is poor testing and quality standards.
The only reason I'm using this phone is because it offers push email for all service providers which is huge for me.
I would appreciate some thought on this.
(I used 3 notes before i wrote this all of them suffered the same problem)
Please be aware that i am not writing this to wind people up or insult anyone it is purely an opinion and I wish Samsung listened

I only have the call distortion. I ordered two from Verizon, they replaced both, went to corporate store and tried two, so that is six with the same issue. Verizon said they had a ticket with Samsung but no exact date for the fix. I then called Samsung and they confirmed they were working the issue for Verizon but could get no indication as to when it would be resolved. It appears that Sprint which rolled out the phone before Verizon had a Samsung OTA to fix it a couple of days ago. Sorry I don't have any additional info but I feel your pain.

[Q] Droid Turbo Return Question

I bought 2 droid turbos with verizon edge. I traded in my iphone 5 phones as part of the transaction. Anyone know what happens if I try to return my droid turbos? I'm wishing I had waiting for the Nexus 6.
I know I will own $70 in restock fees (2 x $35) but not sure how the rest will go.
I'm wondering the same thing. I want my G2 back so badly. The idle drain, capacitive buttons, poor wifi, and lack of simultaneous data and talk driving me crazy. Let's not even talk about root...

I highly doubt they will give you the phone back. I'm sure they will give you a gift card for the value of the phones, minus the restocking fees.
Return
So here's what will happen. Of course the restock fee. You will not get your iphones back. Assuming your trade in value of the iPhones was above $100, you should receive a gift card/account credit with the value of those trade in's or can put it towards a phone when returning the Turbos. If you are going to wait you will have to find some interim phones.

If you return the phone within the return period you don't get hit with the restock fee unless you exchange it. Told this by a rep
You have 14 days to give it back. If you do it, in that timeframe, all is well. If you go outside of it, sheet hits the fan. In less than a month we will have VoLTE and Lollipop. SO I was told. Data and voice at same time will be fixed and you get the new OS.. boom
Root, however, is another story.. patiently waiting

I think my wife is going to return tomorrow so I'll get rid of it in less than a week. That'll work. I really don't care about Data and voice at same time, that's a "neutral" on my big ass list of reasons I want out of this phone.

OK well since you asked I'll list out my likes and hates. Keep in mind I'm coming from an iPhone 5 (which my wife forced me into). I put my foot down and demanded Android this time but I'm really hating this phone. I wanted a Nexus 6 but after cutting out a model out of cardboard I realized it didn't fit very well in my front pants pocket and that was without a case so that's why I tried this phone.
I like:
- the size and form factor
- the google software (except for the music app and the fact gmail must be separate from other email)
- the battery
- the free screen replacement (x1)
- the speed (after I disabled about 20 apps)
I'm neutral on:
- the screen (kind of dark and not loving the colors)
- no data and voice simultaneously
I hate:
- all the bloat (the Verizon software, amazon software, etc)
- the camera (slow and takes pretty bad pictures IMO)
- the wifi range/stability (getting drop outs on my top floor, never had that before)
- the bluetooth (getting drop outs in my car, never had that before)
- all the moto software (the moto voice software constantly stops playing whenever I have music on bc it thinks it's me talking.)
- low sound volume (although better after disabling audio effects)
- speakerphone (getting an echo, never had that before)
- lack of real voice mail (seriously WTF with Verizon voice mail)
- verizon text messages (couldn't figure out how to text pictures with anything else although I didn't spend much time on it)

You can disable a lot of the bloat apps if you go into the app management settings
Camera might improve with software update or another app, but this is a personal preference thing for sure
Wifi issues would definitely bug me. Haven't personally noticed anything, but I've had my phone for lass than 24 hours
I'll test out my bluetooth, thanks for the heads up!
As for manufacturer software enhancements, this is as slim as it gets (aside from a Nexus device with pure vanilla android). Only other option is to go back to apple I think. Or wait for root/roms etc.
Not sure about voicemail issues, been a VZW customer for >10 years and it's always been fine.
You can use different text apps. Try the one w/ green icon, not the stupid red verizon one.

Honestly I do appreciate the feedback. But yeah, a lot of people love their droid turbos so they don't want anyone to bash it. I get it. I tend to defend what I like too. I'm going to try to send my wife out for the return today, she's kind and patient and her returns seems to go smoother than when I do them.

Well I WOULD have gladly taken a Nexus 6... but my wife needs a working phone right now not whenever google actually gets product shipped so she left with the droid turbo and is coming back with iphone 6. Plus they simply made the Nexus 6 too large. But even though it's too big I'd still take one right now if I could get one.
There are a lot of complaints about the wifi and I seriously doubt that can be fixed. The wifi is worse than my cheap work lenovo laptop that my employer hands out to everyone. Maybe the other issues will eventually be fixed but it's possible there will NEVER be root on these phones and that's what everyone needs.
If I had to do it over again, I'd have hung on to my iphone 5 and I would have bought an HTC One M9 in March/April but that ship has sailed.

Figures you would post the one phone I cannot help you with, lol! I'm not an iPhone user, it's just a blatantly overpriced piece of hardware.
My opinion, however, is that you're exchanging a device that lacks a well rounded camera in terms of software for one that offers more functionality in terms of software..
Internally, Android just wins. Hands down. Sure, the iPhone has a great camera & a 64 bit SoC. But take those two things away and nothing inside is truly "revolutionary" at all. It's been done before, years ago, nothing new or substantial other than the fact that Apple has finally caught up in display offerings.
Nexus 6 is definitely going to be one of a kind, but I don't think the battery is going to be great imho. I'm reserving my opinions on the camera for now. I do think the signal strength will be good, as Motorola implemented a great design around the band and the plastic back won't obscure signals.
I'm sorry your Turbo experience wasn't a pleasurable one for your personal needs.

Yeah the short of it as a married man this was my chance to convert my wife (she insists that we have the same phone so that I can help her figure things out) to Android and there are simply too many problems with this phone. Nothing was easy or simple, even stuff like Voice Mail, Bluetooth streaming, wifi, texting. Those are basic things that my iPhone 5 was better at. I'm honestly shocked.
I knew there would be bloatware and I disabled it. I still don't think carriers should be able to load that **** on peoples phones and then keep people from deleting it. I think that's a huge problem for Android to overcome. I think Google is headed in the right direction with the Nexus 6... but it's not available yet.
Maybe down the road I can try again... with a Nexus device
Ya, I can imagine it being a big disappointment. The last thing you want to give your wife or anyone in general is a bad first experience.
If you are seeking the best Android experience possible than you should definitely get a Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Moto X 2014, or the M8 Google Play Edition. They all run vanilla Android out of the box with zero bloat and will give you the quickest Android updates available.

How to root Verizon z force

I bought this phone in excitement over the soon coming physical keyboard mod. I've been waiting for this for years and refused to upgrade from my Droid 4 until a new qwerty slider was made.
Now to my great dismay I am learning that this phone is UNROOTABLE????
I just... Can't. I have ads popping up, noise robots shooting on my screen and I can't close them FOR 5 SECONDS??????? This is preposterous and torturous I am losing my mind. How can this be acceptable? I need root to effectively block ads via the host file. I just can't continue to use this phone like this. Keyboard or not, if I can't have root I don't want this phone anymore.
Will someone please direct me to where I can purchase a rooted or rootable z force?
Besides that I'm willing to put a .1btc bounty on anyone who can successfully guide me to root this phone. As much as I want a keyboard and shatterproof screen these ads create horror. Like I'm tied in a chair and being poked prodded burnt and pieces of my limbs cut off... Without anaesthetic.
Will others please join me in adding to the bounty for the first developer that produces a working root for Verizon Moto z force?
Great phone, excellent mods... But the ads will be a deal breaker and I Will get rid of this phone and unfortunately sit out whilst going back to my Droid 4. I will buy 4 Droid 4s to add to the 3 I already have just in case they start getting scarce.
As a longtime Moto advocate and customer I am deeply hurt, very deeply hurt by these ads and the inability to root and block them. As a voice that begged for physical qwerty to comeback and begged for a Droid 5 for years to be facing this now.. I can't even.
Please someone... Help!
I am on nougat 7.0 and halted system updates until there is a root method
So as it turns out, the z2 force is rootable, so I'm getting one of those. Didn't expect that so soon but there it is. Verizon Moto z force sucks.

I know it's rootable but make sure Verizons version is, because I know Verizon locks the bootloader on those kinds of phones too. Don't make a mistake again. Also I can't upgrade for a few years so I'm still hoping some miracle happens
I've also been waiting for a root method. I'm on build NCL.2 5.86-11. I tried using Dirty Cow, but I was unsuccessful.
A little dramatic aren't we? As of now only the Sprint and T-Mobile versions can be unlocked/rooted. If your main concern is ads try blockada, its a free, non root ad blocker that works pretty well.

I just bought a Verizon branded Moto z2 Force Edition, and have come to find that my FoxFi no longer works due to the update to Nougat. I'm actually coming from a Note 4 and was able to downgrade it back a previous version of Android after it automatically updated itself just after buying it. Does anyone know of a way to downgrade the z2 Force back to Marshmallow? I can tether the thing to my computer using PDANet, then start the WiFi option in Windows 10 so my XBox One can connect, but I don't want to wake my computer up every time I want to play my XBox. Thanks in advance.
The z2 force come with nougat out of the box so you can't downgrade... If you where talking about the original Z forcr droid as it has locked bootloader you can't donwgrade either...

Are the ads put there by Verizon?
I have verizon Moto z force and wish could root too. I have success blocking ads with adguard but you have to install the ".Apk" from their website and allow untrusted sources on phone.
I'm grateful for adguard bc I feel same as OP about ads, they are insufferable torture and psychic abuse.
The reason I want root is that adguard uses local VPN connection to mimick hosts file type host blocking, but then you can't use an actual VPN at the same time. So you sacrifice privacy to block ads.
With root you could have both ads and VPN privacy which is ever more important as net Neutrality disappears and corporate abuses will abound.

God, please
Two updates ago it ruined my phone... Made it super laggy, I put off the update that followed it thinking it might help, it just made everything worse. Now my phone won't load YouTube videos, if they play they're a terrible resolution, web pages won't load, and the phone is even more laggy its unusable.
Suspisciously both of these updates happened the month the phone was out of warranty, is this how Google works with phone companies to make sure you buy a new phone every year? By making your phone an unusable slow brick that can't connect to the internet? Battery life is also terrible now! I'll never install another update! Now my phone is a "secure" brick!
I really really need to be able to root this phone and install a rom that makes it work again! Can anyone help me? Please!
Yeah I stay away from updates. If the fone I working perfectly fine... Why update?? is my motto

This is the third or forth time an "update" has rendered my year old Android phone virtually unusable because of updates to the apps and os screw things up like clockwork make it partially usable, then the next wave of app updates screws everything back up again.
I am so disgusted and pissed off I think I'll save up and get an Apple. And I am a die hard anti iPhone guy, but you know what?! Starting to think Google and Android are evil, greedy, and don't deserve a dime from me. So no more to scumbag Google and Android.

And you think Apple is better? The IOS 11 update is apparently a real horror show and they aren't quick to fix things either.
Your beef isn't with Google, it's with Verizon. Unless you bought an unlocked moto z force, you're locked to Verizon and your updates come from them, not Google. Google may issue the initial code, but then it's submitted to the carriers for their branding and then they send it to you. Nexus and now pixel phones are the only ones updated directly by Google.

Well you might be right. Verizon is one of the greediest companies in the world as far as I'm concerned it's no wonder they'd introduce "security updates" (those don't come from Google!?) that completely destroy your phones performance and force you to get another FROM THEM.

Not being critical, but maybe your issue is device specific or usage specific. Both my sons have moto z's and have taken all the updates and have no issues from firmware performance. Have you done a factory reset? You might have corrupted something. And yes, the monthly security updates are created by Google, then sent to the carriers to tweak before you get them as ota's. Google is only responsible for the core code, not what gets done after. I've just come from a Nexus 6, updated directly through Google for 2 years, and any issue was quickly resolved.
Your problem is not with Google, it's either your device, your application, or your Verizon issued firmware needs a clean install.
You know what you were right. I returned to stock via the bootloader and downloaded just the bare necessities and updated everything and now none of the problems are there any more. The phone is smooth, fast, and the battery life is much better. Who knew?
Thank you so much for the suggestion you have restored my phone!

Soon as it's out of warranty they send updates to cause problems. If you ignore then you get one that bricks your phone. This not only happened to me but 6 other people. All a few weeks after the warranty was up. It was a move to sell the z2 force.
Let me guess. You have a min of 2 Moto mods huh? I got the z2 force after it happened because of the mods but I'm glad Moto is going belly up. Phones are trash now and the support is a joke at best. They can't go under fast enough. Soon as the new note launches Im ditching this hunk of trash z2 force and getting a quality phone.updates won't be any slower then Moto. Hey z force's how's 8.0 somce they said you were getting it winter 2017? Oh wait they are dragging there feet trying to get you to buy new phone.
