I've been using Facebook messenger for a while now to send SMS and MMS and never had a problem until recently I'd try to send a picture and it would become almost unreadable and pixelated. So I switched from fb messenger to a few other SMS apps and same problem occurred unless I'm using stock app. Anybody know how to fix this?
Edit: I meant to post this in questions
Since MMS is intended for feature phones, the mobile phone that receive the message send its user agent (basically, the phone model) and the network (your mobile network operator) format the picture resolution according to it. If the user agent is unknown, usually the picture is scaled down to be sure it can be received. I suspect they are reporting unknown user agents.

hi all
my friend sent to me a picture message
but i can not see the picture
how can i solve these problem?
If you are talking about Nokia picture messages I think that technology is incompatible with the XDA II, only works on Nokia phones
You alternative is to send and receive MMS only.
If I am wrong someone please correct me.
ed
Well it's bcz the XDA 1 or 2 does not support the EMS Messaging.
Would any other members who are on Vodafone UK please let me know if they can send MMS messages. I have tried both contract and pay as you go sims, I can receive MMS messages but cannot send them. I would be grateful for any information to resolve this problem.

I wonder if this is related to my issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618218
According to this (I can't verify if it's out of date or not), Vodafone's MMS limit is 100k. If you want, you can try using Handcent Sms from the market, which severely reduces the file size (therefore the resolution and quality of the picture) before sending out an MMS. I'm curious to see if you're having the same issue as me. If you do, the stock messaging program has a pretty huge flaw in it which needs to be addressed.
Tell me how it goes.

Hmmm I was really hoping that would be the issue
I tried to do some research, and it seemed like some Hero users were having the same issue as you. See if this helps you at all: http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/7776-mms-vodafone.html
The key would be this quote:
"All Vodafone Numbers MMS is deactivated At network level by default , you need to Ring customer services up on 191 Free of charge and ask them to Activate it"
I'm surprised they do it that way - it always used to be that the first MMS you sent activated your account automatically.

I think I had been down this way before but rang Customer Services again just to make sure. The guy at Vodafone first asked for my number which he checked and said that it was already activated for mms and internet, he then asked for make and model of phone, this is the good bit, he has never heard of this phone and it is not on their database so no support. I told him that they would be supporting this phone in the very near future, he said that if that is true I should just wait until that happens and ring back then.
What is it that makes it so difficult to send a flippin picture message

tell him you have a Vodafone Magic ... its a supported Android phone on Vodafone and the menus are identical so if he wants to talk you through setting anything up then no problem.
If he has to set anything network side to work on Voda then no problem either
I'm having an issue with GO SMS Pro not auto displaying MMS from iPhone users. For Android users, it will auto display the image in the sms thread, but for iPhone users also on AT&T, it shows an image icon and forces me to click the image icon to display the image which appears on another screen.
The MMS images from iPhone users auto display on the stock SMS app along with other apps such as Messages+. I checked the auto-receive setting in the stock SMS ap and it's checked. I also have the maximum image size set in Go SMS Pro.
Does this sound like a bug with the program or is there anything else I should try? Also, I tested sending MMS using GO SMS Pro and it works fine. Could manually entering in the APN information help resolve this issue?

Perhaps this is just how it is with MMS and GoSMS. I get the view icon when I get MMS from other S4s and BlackBerry users.
Go sms is banned from the site for security issues. All questions about it should be directed to the developers.

This one has me scratching my head looking for answers. I noticed this problem a while ago where my friends MMS sent from iPhones were not appearing on my Messages, I have the option for "fetch MMS automatically" and all I get is the little cloud but its blank, it only shows the time it was received, I've also tried disabling the fetch MMS automatically and even when downloading them it shows me the blank cloud. The doozy comes when I tried using Hangouts just to see what it was and to my surprise I could see all my SMS and MMS conversations from my contacts and all the pictures from the iPhone contacts were shown via Hangouts but they do not show on the stock Messages app.
Things I've tried:
1) Googling for answers only resulted in fanboyism comments and speculations that led to more fanboyism.
2) At first I tried contacting my carrier and they made me reset the APN settings to default, which I did and it was after that that I realized that it was only the iPhone MMS messages that weren't being received.
3) Tried disabling the Hangouts services via the Apps option on the settings menu. Restarted phone and still wouldn't work.
4) Been restarting my phone with each setting I change to see if it helps but no.
5) Been bugging my friends to send me MMS from their iPhones and one did get through but nothing more after that.
6) Made sure their iPhones had the setting of "Send MMS when iChat isn't available" enabled.
7) Made sure my old iPhone account was signed out of my old iPhone 4 so I wasn't receiving anymore iMessages.
I'm speculating that I either need to call my carrier again which is Claro PR and explain the situation to see if it helps, or maybe go to a store. Also, I've been thinking about Rooting my phone so I can uninstall some of the bloat, which included Hangouts but don't want to go down that path yet and I don't know if it would really help anything since I already tried disabling the service via the Apps options.
Please help me figure this out, I love this phone but this thing is bugging the hell out of me.
I have had problems with mms on hangouts and the stock app on Sprint doesn't support group mms. I have been using Go sms pro and everything works fine, including iPhone mms messages.
Hope that helps.

Hmm... interesting a replacement messaging app, I would definitely keep this in mind so thanks a lot for the suggestion. I rather use the stock apps while I'm getting used to the phone since this is my first Android device but will definitely use this if resetting to factory defaults doesn't help my problem.
*Edit*
Any other suggestions for my problem are welcomed.
LG didn't enable MMS group messaging on stock messages. My HTC One and S4 had the option in settings to enable it...LG left it out. If you haven't heard, TEXTRA is one of the best, fastest, light weight messaging apps that can handle iPhone group messages without the bloat on go sms and handcent. Look it up on the playstore...ratings are great and all my Android friends use it now. I've yet ran into any issues with group texting.

Hi and thanks for the reply, I've looked up Textra and seems like a nice alternative and has a very clean interface, I'm currently using Hangouts from Google without a problem but would have preferred the stock message app. It's weird because I went to my carrier and they did some test and everything was fine, turns out its only MMS sent from iPhones that won't show through the Message app from G2. Maybe I should try emailing them to see if I can get some answers?
Yea only the Verizon variant supports group messages. I posted a thread about this in the Themes and Apps forum. Could be the cause.
All my friends group text me all the time and send MMS using the Verizon version Messaging app and hangouts. The stock messaging app world best though.

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere as I have tried to look.
I recently received my nexus 6p and prior to that i had a Note 4. I needed a nano sim card so I went to verizon and they gave me a nano sim and activated it in my nexus 6p (surprisingly for free). Ever since I made the switch i have received horrible MMS picture quality. Images are coming in anywhere from 16kb-52kb and are very blurry. I contacted Google who wasn't sure how or what the issue was. Then i contacted verizon who i figured were the real culprits (maybe confused because they don't support 6p and images coming in at lowest size possible?). My brother has the 5x and was able to directly swap his sim card from his galaxy s6 and does not have this issue at all. I have no idea where to turn
tl;dr - since switching to nexus 6p on verizon, i am receiving horrible quality picture messages
is anyone else even having this problem? and did you switch from a micro to nano usb that was activated by verizon?

Hi, did you check your APN settings? I don't have Verizon (T-Mobile) so I'm not sure what it needs to be set to but I'm sure you can Google the settings. If all fails, you can try to just reset the APN to see if that fixes your issue. Good luck.

Try using your Google voice until this gets fixed.
My mms pics look awful on Verizon too
I tried several different text apps and they all look horrible

I got this email from textra as a solution, havene't bee nable to try it yet
If MMS is not working then follow these instructions to locate the issue:
a) Firstly check in Textra > Settings > MMS Settings if you have a 'Manually Configure APN' setting, ensure it's NOT ticked. This means Textra was able to ascertain your APN settings correctly from your existing device settings, so 99% likely these are correct.
b) If you don't have this (Manually Configure APN) setting, locate the details as below and enter them into Textra.
* contact your carrier and request the correct MMS APN settings for your device; or
* check in Settings App > (More...) > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (MMS)
c) Some carriers only support a 'Send Size Limit' of 300KB (Textra > Settings > MMS Settings). So first set the size to 300KB to see if that helps when sending.
Once you have checked these details, please send yourself a test MMS.
If still an issue, please send us a screenshot of the Textra > Settings > MMS Settings page along with what happened when you sent yourself a test MMS as instructed above.
P.S One other thing, if you can send MMS perfectly but keep getting the 'Check APN...' notification when receiving an MMS then it's certainly another SMS app (even if not the default one!) interfering, uninstall it, clear the notification and test by sending yourself an MMS. Check in the stock app to ensure MMS > Auto-Retrieve is OFF
PPS Any ad blocking app or VPN app can interfere with MMS, for example Adaway, AdBlock Plus, NoRoot Firewall.
Thanks heaps.
We will sort it for you!

This thread has been a lifesaver for me! First of all my issue is slightly different but worth posting. Since root I have been unable to send MMS, SMS have been fine. They get stuck on sending and it was locking up my entire messaging app. This was the same using default and hangouts. I verified APN settings, set chrome to default browser app.... nothing worked.
The posted email about the ad blocker messing up messaging apps was what fixed this for me. I stopped Adblock Plus from running automatically on boot and my MMS instantly started working again. If you have any sort of ad blocking apps try disabling them to see if it helps.
So happy this fixed for me I was thinking I was going to have to do a clean flash.
I was having the same problem. I am running AdAway and it that is not blocking MMS. Adblock plus was blocking the same port MMS is using. I would think they will fix it any day so just keep checking for updates.
Having this same issue and it's awful. Anyone find a solution because above didn't work. Pictures from iPhone/Android looks like ****.
I have this problem but only on Textra. When textra is the default text app, the mms pics I receive are of much lower quality. I had used textra on my previous note 3 and it was fine. Ever since the switch to the 6p, the quality has gotten low. When I use google's messenger as the default app, the mms pics come in normally. Next, I go open textra, I see the normal looking mms that was received but Strangely, a duplicate is also present. And that duplicate picture has lower resolution. I sent Textra the screenshots of my problem, unfortunately I didn't get a solution. They said they would forward the issue to the dev team and they'd work on it.
There's been several updates on Textra since, but none have fixed the issue for me =( I love Textra, but right now I'm back to using google messenger cuz of this issue.
I have this issue as well. It's so annoying that I can't read anything that comes to me with text that isn't huge. I hope someone finds a solution. I am using Textra, maybe that's the culprit?
