Does anyone know if the usb/ or hotspot of foxfi/pda net or other non native teathering apps work on the z force droid? ive been on unlocked and rooted phones for a while but i'm just not seeing anything that i want. i bought a oneplus 3 then found out it didn't have the lte bands for verizion. derp. but i think id go back to a locked phone for this modular deal as long as i could still teather with pda net. cuz i ant pay'n no 30 bucks for Verizon to "unlock" the capability of my phone. pffffffftttttttttt.

Both bluetooth and USB work, but WiFi requires a mobile hotspot plan (which I don't have, so I can't test).
If you are the only one on your plan, go prepaid, I dont pay extra and the stock tethering under settings works just fine

I searched for the same, tried a number of apps, tried all of these recommended root apps & protocols ended up with the same disappointing result. Most of it just didn't work or no one could provide the necessary tools in proper sequential steps.
With you phone powered on remove your sim card. Go to Mobile hot spot & tethering, activate blue tooth tethering.wait a few minutes put your sim back in. you should now be able to pair devices with your phone and share its internet connection..

Found this in the other threads regarding hotspot. If you download "Network Signal Refresher Lite" from 8JAPPS in the playstore you can use native tethering. Just open the app and hit refresh and the moment you lose service drag down the quick tiles and tap the hotspot button. Been using this on my Moto Z Droid for the past few days and it works perfectly

Use Network signal refresher
Does anyone know of any workarounds? Network Signal Refresher stopped working for me with Nougat as well.
Yesterday they had an update for Network Signal Lite to version 5.0. Didnt work for me.
Today they have another update to version 5.1 hoping it fixes the issue. Just figured I would share.
i take it popping the sim doesn't work as well then. seams as if they might have closed the "if not able to call home let hotspot on anyway" bug then.

Popping the sim card does indeed work just hit the hotspot icon in the quick settings right after you reinsert it. Been doing since the first day nougat came out and it works every time.

No. Please don't come in a thread acting as if you know everything and have some simple fix with a smart alec response. Wireless Tether is ad-hoc mode, as is Barnacle. This method is access point instead, which some people need specifically as opposed to ad-hoc.

No, not a build.prop thing, it's an application programming thing... Long story short, 3G Mobile Hotspot switches your phone's data connection from "TYPE_MOBILE" to "TYPE_MOBILE_DUN", which shuts down you your data connection unless you you are subscribed to the 3G Mobile Hotspot service. Cycling 3G off/on in EasySwitch switches your data connection back to TYPE_MOBILE, while keeping 3G Mobile Hotspot open.

Sound like you might have cycled wifi instead. I was however incorrect in saying to toggle 3G, when what I really meant was to toggle *Cell Service* which is 4th from the left on the top row in EasySwitch. If it's still trippin, let me know what mods and such that you're running. I just figured this out earlier today so i don't know all the permutation of why it might *not* work. TY for the feedback.

3G is actually the Up & Down Arrows on Easy Switch. The Cell tower is just your basic cell service (non 3G), although it IS the one you must toggle.
Just wanted to clear that up.

Awesome, but is there any way to do this without EasySwitch?
e.g. adb? terminal emulator?
I just don't care much for payware, let alone crippleware. :/
I tried this at work ( vzw hahaha) on my phone the way you stated and also tried with another coworkers x. His browser redirected him to vzw provisioning page as described, mine did not since I used the method described. However I was still able to connect another phone to both mine and a coworkers phone. Makes me worry about being charged the overage rate. Any ideas?

When connected to an x, fascinate redirected to vzw provisioning page. So this does work. Question is, will my bill sky rocket Haha. Gonna investigate further.

ATM, I'm have not tested any other apps that are free that can provide the needed functionality. The other apps I saw on the market seemed to just switch between 2G/3G, and not actually cycle the data connection off and on. Flight mode cycles wifi too, so that's a no go. ADB/Terminal... I tried other methods for doing this, pppd up/pppd down... no go..
Again, this works because of VZ tries to switch our data connection from "mobile", to "mobile_dun", to try and ferry us down their pay pipe... Cycling cell service switches us back to a "mobile" connection while keeping the 3G Mobile Hotspot running.
This is a Work In Progress... I believe that a widget could be made to automatically catch when the data connection gets switched over, and hijack it back. I have good idea of API calls in Dalvik necessary to make this happen, but it's been about 10 years since I really got down on programming anything, and my thing was web interfaces with PERL, never really got into Java. I am interested in Android Developement, so I'm currently tinkering with putting this widget together, but I currently don't have the know-how to put it all together. So EasySwitch is kind of my Proof-of-Concept tool.
I feel you, though. EasySwitch is just the current work around. Does the job, though...

This should more or less be equivalent to Barnacle/Wireless Tether. They all just use your "mobile" data connection.
I believe this to be actually more covert than the "Free 3G Mobile Hotspot for Incredible" method, which actually uses VZ's "mobile_dun" pay pipe, and uses the customers "[email protected]" to authenticate.
So, your bill should not skyrocket.

This was another one of the possibilities I had in mind. I don't really understand how to Decompile .APK's. Do you know how to do this? If it is possible to modify the APK, I would actually just bypass the connection switching routine all together, and just move on to starting up the wifi side of things.

If you know more about possibly making this work in this way, which actually would be the cleanest method possible, I'd appreciate any kind of help.

For me the answer is sadly -No. Foxfi installed fine and does work in Bluetooth mode (Edit: USB mode working too). When I activate hotspot, it installs a certificate, attempts to turn the Hotspot on, then goes into a loop of certificate install, attempt to turn on, repeat. VZW UDP

I saw a workaround people got working on the Pixel. Would anyone with a Verizon V20 be willing to test this?
Would anyone like to try bypassing the verizon tether subscription check by option 1: installing network signal refresher, refresh signal and immediately turning on hotspot while refreshing. or option 2: turn on airplane mode then off and hit hotspot icon before it recaptures the signal.

I am on a UDP and was able to get the built in wireless tethering working.
1. Eject the Sim Card tray ( Just a little bit)
2. Open up the settings menu (not the drop down shortcut)
3. Go to mobile hotspot and tethering
4. re-insert sim card tray
5. click to enable mobile hotspot
6. enjoy tethering
So I take it that I need to be dragging my Sim ejector pin with me everywhere now. Lol
Can someone confirm that this works? So I can upgrade my phone.
Thanks!
Ok. So I slid it out and then slowly pushed it in as I clicked the hotspot quick icon. I didn't see it say checking subscription status. Where do we see if it's actually being logged as hotspot data?

Well I'm on the original UDP, with that I'm not allowed to tether unless it's on my plan. I believe the OP is in the same boat as well. If you're on the new UDP plan then I'm not sure how you would tell if it's being logged or not. I'd maybe steam a movie or show through your hotspot and check back periodically. You take the risk of using the allotted amount you may tether monthly though.
Yeah. I know it says 10GB but I've already streamed over hotspot like 40gb when I had the t mobile nougat rom. After 10gb it's supposed to go to 3g speed, but I haven't noticed a drop. I'm hotspotting right now using the trick and no slowing down yet. I know when it activated it didn't say "checking subscription status", it just was on. So we'll see. I'm trying to save 50 bucks a month on cable internet because I get about 30mbps here as is.
Wow, thanks for this! I had already give up. Alternatively, you can use PdaNet through the same folks behind FoxFi for USB tethering. It's a matter of what's more convenient... popping out the Sim card every time or carrying a USB cord, assuming you're using it for a laptop.
I got the USB tether on FoxFi to work, is there a way to make it work so I can connect my Galaxy Tab A to my phone?
Didn't work for me
I could not get this to work. I also have the old plan and when I take the sim card out even slightly it yells that the sim card is missing. When i go to the hotspot menu in the settings menu it tells me it needs a sim card. So when I put the sim card in it still checks for subscription status. Could you do a video of how little you need to take the sim card out. Or give me any more pointers.
I literally push it back in and press wifi hotspot on fast. It goes to thinking mode but when the 4g turns on, wifi is there too. It takes some getting used to.

Take it out, find the setting, be ready to turn it on and hit it right after you inset the sim card again. It has to be inserted, but before it realizes you should have a subscription.

Hopefully someone figures this out soon as I'm on the old better unlimited data plan and used foxfi at the shop means they wanted $75 a month for internet there and since the update I'm forced to pay for tethering which I have to admit isn't equal to what foxfi did considering now I can't have my hotspot on and use the phone still the same fashion and it seems to kick me off hotspot

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.gr.java_conf.taketake.tethering&hl=en
DID work. It doesn't bring you to the HotSpot Settings first, and then you would have to turn on the HotSpot manually...this does it quickly, shows that it is enabled.

I tried this but didn't work for me with AT&T. I have a Tethering shorcut, but it takes you to the hotspot settings to turn it on manually like you mentioned. So I was excited to try this app out, however after I installed it, it just says it's Enabled (but it's not) and then when I tap it again it says Enabled again, not Disabled. Unless I go into my settings and turn it on, then the app will say Disabled (but doesn't really). So I guess I'll stick with what I have for now.
Hey I ended up returning my S8. I apologise for putting this info out about the Tethering app. It works perfectly on all my other ROMS. It is the only "widget" type app that worked on my LG G5 on stock rooted FW on MM. Anyway, I am not sure if you guys got Tethering to work on Verizon or whatever, but I had no issues with it on T-Mobile... However this app didn't work on T-Mobile on my S8 even.
Buy from Samsung?

You didn't by any chance purchase the phone directly from Samsung did you? I had the exact same problem with an S8 purchased directly from Samsung (got the free Gear VR promo) and I have Sprint.
There was no hotspot option anywhere in the setup menus. And of course, I did not notice this until 2 weeks later when I was on a trip. The hotel WiFi was messed up and I needed to use hotspot. It's not that it did not work, there was no option at all in Setup for Hotspot and Tethering.
I talked to Sprint, took it to a Sprint store for help, and talked to Samsung tech support. Nothing they all tried fixed it. Both Sprint and Samsung suggested the phone might be defective and I should pursue getting a replacement. That didn't make sense to me because WiFi and Cell Data were working fine, and hotspot is just software.
My fix was to do a full Factory Reset and then set it all up again. Tedious, but when it came back up, the Hotspot and Tethering option were there and it works perfectly now.
Recent update messed it up again?
Tried the adb method of Get/Push revealing Hotspot via Quick Tiles. Didn't work.
Any other ideas for regaining hotspot on the device? Without rooting?
Current date: Jan 7 2018.
i have same problem too, waiting for update
I tried that https://www.xda-developers.com/thre...ickbaity-tricks-for-your-new-galaxy-s8-or-s8/ but I cant even try itcoz I get "because an app etc about some permission", I tried to disable so many cant figure it out
So how does one Quick Toggle Tether? I use it all the time in my car

I am on a UDP and was able to get the built in wireless tethering working.
1. Eject the Sim Card tray ( Just a little bit)
2. Open up the settings menu (not the drop down shortcut)
3. Go to mobile hotspot and tethering
4. re-insert sim card tray
5. click to enable mobile hotspot
6. enjoy tethering

I can confirm this works on a Verizon Note 8, day 1 about 30 minutes fresh out of the box.
edit: This is on an old school UDP, as the new UDP's don't require any work-arounds.
This works for about 30 seconds then turns off mobile hotspot, any ideas ? I have a note8 for Verizon also.

have you tried the generic one? i know it works for me on sprint
but soft reset the phone or just reboot. as soon as its on, pull down the notification bar and hit hotspot quick.
if it turns on see if it stays on, if so then your good to go, but once you turn it off you'll have to reboot again to use.
Unlocked Note 8 grandfather UDP works fresh out the box with not sim eject bypass.
@ixcknyxi Do you have foxfi or any other hotspot apps installed on your phone?
Foxfi doesn't work for hotspot just BT and USC on note8. Unlocked versiom works like a charm I am sure.

I know foxfi wifihotspot doesn't work due to the firmware (7.0). I was just asking if you had it installed on your phone.
I have installed, Should I uninstall?

No, you can leave it installed.
Turn on (check) the activate bluetooth mode on foxfi then try the sim card bypass method, connect a wifi device while its on, then you can turn off the bluetooth mode on foxfi.
Let me know if that works. Im almost 100% sure it will stay on.
You can try with bluetooth or with USB mode on on foxfi.
Does anyone know if that method worked...debating whether or not to return the Verizon Note 8 to get the Unlocked one from Bestbuy.
I tried the Bluetooth option in FoxFi, nothing worked. The problem is the mobile hotspot doesn't stay on long enough to allow anything to connect. I haven't had luck with signal refresher Lite or Pro either. Any other ideas for the Verizon version of the Note 8?

-Try with it on and the phone plugged in with usb.
If that doesn't work,
Uninstall everything and clear cache. I had this issue with my s8+. The hotspot apps you installed are interrupting the hotspot and it shut it off in a few seconds. Remember, you must time it right

This method works 100%. I am with Verizon and I would recommend the unlocked version if you are a heavy hotspot user and if you DO NOT use wifi calling. Using the hotspot doesn't require the sim removal method, it can be a pain in the butt after a while.
I'm a tad baffled because my hotspot works just fine on my Verizon model. No SIM trick needed to activate it.

This worked leyvatron! Thank you so much! Clearing the cache did the trick, for good measure I uninstalled the other apps also.

All I did was rename my device and changed password. Worked just like it's suppose to. Wonder why others are having issues?

Yeah that's exactly what I did. Anyone else try that?
Are either of you guys on the old school UDP? (droidrev71 or CtrlZThis )

I've only seen this issue when the 4G LTE signal strength isn't great, I've tethered on my phone without issue using this method, no shutoff after 30 seconds. Not sure what's going on your end :-/

Hotspot/Tethering on old school UDP is not included unless you paid an extra $30/month for it, which is why this method (or root, or ADP, or an unlocked device) is required.
