I have lots of white and colored lines on my screen. They disappear when i turn the screen off, and then slowly fade in. Surely this is software?

Wow. It looks like maybe loose connection from screen to system board. Or the device got wet? Try tweaking(twisting) the frame a little to see if it changes at all(better/worse). If it does then probably loose connection.

Hasn't got wet and no change when twisting either. Though switching the screen off and back on clears it for about 30 seconds. Very strange!

Doesn't seem like a hw problem.
Try this:
1- Run a benchmark in loop for 30 minutes to make the device hot. Something like Antutu. This would provoque any underlying heat problem.
2- Set screen off to 30 minutes and leave it idle on to see if screen changes while doing nothing.
3- factory reset the device after backup your data.
My oppinion is it a hardware issue. You can handle it like a software issue and try to fix it but if you don't have time or don't want to experiencing it would be better to bring it back where you bought it.

ok, its come to light now. My five year old has confessed he knocked it off of a table. Makes sense now, however the table is just over half a metre high.It would have falllen onto a wooden floor. Warranty seems unlikely.
I must say though i'm surprised it has caused this damage. My wife's Moto G was thrown by my five year old onto tarmac and the Moto G is absolute fine. I'd like to buy the Honor 8 again as I really like it, though I feel I would be stupid to buy another if they are a delicate as this. Be warned.... Don't have kids!

Than you are lucky that you have a Honor phone (if you are within the 3 month).
The Huawei/Honor offers 3 month screen warranty (but only one time) for accidents as well. Link: http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/uk/vipservice/index.html
Yes call them quickly so you can send it back for repair/replacement. And get a good case!

In the Hungarian version it sais that screen replacement policy works in the UK (actually the list of the countries where it id avaiable starts with the UK).
Here is the Hungarian text you can translate it if you want unfortunatelly I did not find the english language version. Link: http://www.honor8.hu/guarantee.pdf
I had the exact ****ing thing on my zenfone 2. It's the reason I replaced it with the H8.
I have just spoken to Huawei customer service. The screen repair (Gold Service) only exists for P9 and P+ not the Honor 8.

No point in contacting them on Facebook, I've spoken to their help desk. UK not covered. It's with them for repair. Guess they will send me a bill. Loo! After your honor 8 guys. I've done the drop test and it sadly isn't durable. I really liked this phone. More than my Galaxy s7 edge, but tough to buy again knowing it can't survive a small drop.

asoebye, sorry to see this. We're all assuming you had the screen side away from your body in the pocket, can you confirm ??
As I suppose if an impact was large enough, even if you have the screen side in, a crack is possible.
Always put your HD in nice leather case

But it seems the screen is of glass. I thougth it was plastic.
when did you buy the phone? if it was less than 45 days ago you should be able to take out insurance...

Yes, I can confirm that. The thougt of such an accident has never entered my mind. I have never destroyed ANY phone. I got a scratch in my P3600 because I dropped it, and thats what I was most affraid of with my HD also.
But if you have the screen against your thigh I think you need a quite a hit to destroy the glass. The backcover will probably break first.
I think I will have that in mind from now on ...

Good idea any pointers where we go to? the cheap and best place to get it insured?
I'm going to get CPP Fonesafe, but this is only available in Italy. There is also an UK version with the same name, but it costs 7 pounds a month, so it's not what I call cheap.
Splodge, was the only way I could describe it...take a look at the attached photo.
I'm certain I have seen someone else post this before.
It just happened randomly! Was fine all day yesterday, then picked my phone up to answer it last night, and after the phone call had ended I saw this on the screen...
Touch screen still works, and you can still see underneath it, its less visible when the back light is on. Of course when it's off, you can see the effect it has!
So...what is it? Easily fixed or what?
Like I said, I'm sure I have seen this posted by someone else before...
Hehe... nice one. It will most likely disappear if you gently pull the glass with a suction cup.
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Suction cup thing works but then it comes back.
HTC said it would be out of warrenty :S and they would have to look at it first.
O2 however, said if its in warrenty (which it is) then they will get it repaired and supply a courtesy handset while they have it.

interesting, well I'm taking it to the O2 store next week, so will see what they say, will keep the email i had off them saying they will as backup!
It has reduced in size, but still has the rainbow pattern in the middle.
I had a similar screen problem however it didnt look anywhere near as bad as yours. Mine had slight discolouration mostly noticable on white backgrounds. Pressing the screen a little bit harder than normal created the sort of effect you get when pressing the screen of a calculator (dont know what to call it) I took mine to the o2 shop with a different fault and also mentioned this fault. I got it back 6 days later but they hadnt fixed the screen problem. I sent it off again then and there and 6 days later i got a new phone.
O2 now have my HD2
Been given a nasty old Nokia phone as a temp...forgot how small some screens are...lol
should take 7-10 days they said...so fingers crossed...

LOL!
Well anyway! For me it was very random. The phone was fine all day at work, I had a phone call in the evening, after the phone call I just looked at my phone, and there it was...
Some people have said its caused my the heat of the battery and signal, dunno.
Its a very thin space between the battery and the back of the screen, so maybe thats true.
I can't see how over pressure can cause it as its a glass screen, and glass doesn't bend like plastic.
I had a smaller of these newton rings at the center. Much smaller than yours.
Suddenly one day it disappeared.
It was during summer and I thought it was probably because of the heat.

Hope its fixed soon for you, its interesting about the battery and heat, my hd2 gets warm below the battery and that is also below the main area your problem is on, I suspect its down to a screen fault myself.

hello all.
just bought a new galaxy tab for the price of $750 here in Baghdad today. it was brought over from UAE and has full Arabic and the best android 2.2 system.
i am extremely happy to have it however the happiness stops to when the spec of dust appeared to my eyes. right under the sticker that comes on the screen appeared a white dot to the very right of the screen. however when i use the unit the although not apparent it looks like a dead pixel rather than a spec of dust because it looks to mix colors. (i would take a picture later and attach it to this post) -- the area i am talking about can be shown here. its on the very top right hand corner of the center image in step 18; http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Teardown/4103/3
i am considering tearing the unit apart and blowing some air under the screen this is if the item is dust.. is it easy? i am looking over some videos to take it apart. -- according to the steps from the link above step 18 requires a heat gun and that i am not too good with.
OR
shall i just ignore it?
Any experiences with things like this?
thanks!
[wow a 104 views as of this edit and no replies? hmm]
there was an article that showed the teardown of a tab. They said it took an extream amount of heat to seperate the glass from the screen.
I would send it back to Samsung for replacement or try and ignor it.

+1 for sending it back to Samsung, a device this expensive shouldn't come with any dead pixels! If you open it to try and fix it yourself you'll invalidate your warranty and then will really be stuck with it!!

Didn't do anything. Opened it, charged it and booted it. Tested it out and rolled down statusbar, noticed directly and all my happyness for my new phone dissappeared.
I guess its the kind of person who owns the phone..
I myself am almost a perfectionist.. well.. atleast when i buy new things.. why would i want a new product with some minor/ major problems on it?
hardware problems.. not software.. since software can be fixed.
I had the circle on mine, top right of the screen. Made a thread about it last week: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078058
Noticed it shortly after taking delivery of the box when I was viewing some photos. It's not visible on pixels where full brightness is used (no matter if it's R, G, or B), but on anything between black and full white it's visible. Sent mine back yesterday for replacement, but I was told by an Expansys-USA rep that they won't have any in stock till the 30th.
Supposedly it's from the suction cup used on the assembly line and that it's technically supposed to go away over time. Expansys only gives a small window of time for returns, and my circle wasn't showing signs of disappearing. Might wanna have yours swapped out, too.
Thanks, was looking for someone else having this problem.
I live in Sweden and ordered from operator Telenor.
They only have a 7 day DOA, so I called them and because all phones were out both in physical store and on the web, they was going to send me a servicebox that I will pack everything and then send it. Hopefully I will get a new one in a few weeks. They say that it can take up to a month though.
Hey there,
I got the exact same thing, but on the right side of the display. I got this thing just yesterday, I live in Germany.
I really do not want to send it back, especially since it seems display problems are pretty common with this phone and there is no guarantee I'll get another one without it.
Anyone knows if this might go away? I have 4 weeks until I have to send it back.
No idea if it will go away, but if you've got 4 weeks, maybe you can see if it does fade over time? I had a really short period of time to report any problems with the phone to Expansys (48 hours), so I couldn't wait.
Man... 4 weeks..! That seems like such a luxurious amount of time to check for problems with the phone.
I can't see anything like this on my phone...
How can I see/make it:-??

Blow very gently into the charging port. You will need to put your lips there to get a seal, but don't slobber all over it. A good fix when you are out in the world but I suspect the fridge option is better in the long run due to moisture.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA App
Permanent enough to not be annoying. You might have to do it every few months at the most.
i solved mine by putting a few layer of folded paper abt 2" x 0.5" at the back, middle, abt an inch or two of the top. you got to experiment the placement as well as the thickness of the folded paper yourself. too much then it will make it worst, too little and it wont make a diff. then i snap it back into the original book case folder. this force the tablet to bend upwards a little in the middle and i no longer have the oil stain. but it does once its out of the case. i consider my solution sort of "permanent" for me...
As far as I know, there's no "permanent" solution except sending it in. If I was you I'd just deal with it for the days you're out and send it in when you have time (it's what I did). Unless yours is way worse than most, you can't see it when it's turned on (maybe if you're really looking for it). BTW- they stopped using the defective screens at least 3 or 4 months ago; I'm surprised you got one that has it. Was it new or used when you bought it? In case you're curious, Samsung never asked me for proof of purchase, so if you're worried about second-hand purchase not having a warranty, I'm pretty sure they'll fix it no matter what...
*Look at that. A mod edited my post. Good to see there's actually mods here; bummer all you do is edit posts that are critical of the mods instead of real moderation (stickies, deleting and merging duplicative threads; editing badly-written post titles; generally making the site and the search function more useful....).
Service Center
Just send it to the service center
Mine was really bad, it took up a huge portion of the screen, but you could only see it from an angle not when looking directly at it. I bit the bullet, called Samsung. The service lady was very nice, problem was immediately acknowledged , no questions asked , just the serial number info. I had it back in less than two weeks. Very glad I sent it it! Oh, back up your data! Mine came back factory restored. Just do it! The rings will come back even after putting it in the fridge!

So did I.. I. Taking mind in today.
galactic FORCE!
I got my tab back in August 2011. I've always been able to generate these rings by pressing hard on the screen, but they would eventually fade away after a few seconds on their own.
Yesterday, for the first time, the rings stayed. After a while, I was able to bend/press/smear them away, but this has me worried. Now, the rings appear with just slight pressure on the screen.
Should I wait until it gets worse? Maybe I should just call and request to send it in as Samsung seems to be replacing them no questions asked? I'd love to just get this new and improved screen you guys are talking about.
Sending it to the service center is painless and it'll be back into your hands in less than 10 calendar days.
Or you can just live with it. For the most part you can't see it when you're using the Tab. I lived with it for 6 months before deciding to send it in. Then I kicked myself for not sending it in sooner.
You think I can request a repair even if the rings, for the time being, go away on their own? Will they only take it in if they are "stuck" on the screen and only a certain area in size?

I did. Some days they were there, sometimes not. I called and they immediately acknowledged the problem and sent me an RMA. I don't think the repair person even checks. They just replace the screen.
Awesome. Thanks for the info.

Absolutely. It's a known problem; they shouldn't even give you any trouble if you call it "newton rings" (don't call it oil spot or water or they'll think it was your fault). One other bit I should have mentioned: most of the screens that got the problem did not have a logo on them. The ones they're replacing them with say "samsung" on the bottom. It's better than having the rings, but I do miss my logo free slate...
I do not have the logo. Hmmm, I don't know how I feel about this. Where is the logo? Is it on the long edge or the short edge? I use my tab 100% landscape.
Mine has the logo on the bottom long edge, centered. I actually like having it because when someone asks me if it's an iPad I just point to the logo.
Thinking about calling. Is there a special phone number in the USA for these Newton Ring cases? Or just use the 800-726-7864 number on their support page?
