Hello,
I have installed the android 6 to my p8 lite dual sim phone. C432b574 - I got the OTA update recently but it didn't update, and others told me to update manually, so I did.
I updated from b170.
The problem is the battery started heating up like never before with normal usage. Besides that when I checked the consumption levels it showed that hardware used 95-99% and softwares used the remaining. It is unnatural because I use the phone like I used to use with lollipop. I had been using it for 2 weeks now.
I tried wiping cache partition, updated all of the apps and someone told me the google services may screw up with the new system so I deleted those too, the problem still on.
Should I take it to the repair shop for a battery exchange? Maybe mine is faulty?
Regards, Ghostmuffin - thanks in advancew
I've also had those problems, the high hardware consumption is probably a first time error. For me, the one's causing havoc are the Google Play Services, actually you didn't remove anything, you can't remove them without basically turning your phone useless. Time to consider a deodexed ROM and using amplify (requires Xposed)

I could remove the updates.
And you installed deodexed update or how did you manage to solve it then?
I'll wait for other replies before rooting the phone.
I have never rooted a phone before, one thing is not clear for me, can I install a custom android 6 while it is currently on the phone or should I downgrade it first? The other question is, does it wipe my data?

Well I worry because with the heating up the battery life is reduced. And I wonder if it can be solved because in general the marshmallow is much better than lollipop

Well my device also heats up when playing heavy games like gta san andreas, modern strike, asphalt 8 etc.... I think this is due to octa core processor. Which generates more heat as compare to quad core. I haven't used any octa core devices other than this so might be wrong.

Removing updates fixes nothing, as it seems to be a problem with Marshmallow itself, and yes, I downloaded a custom ROM, it's not a very advanced procedure but you should be careful. You should install it over the current ones, making wipes with a custom recovery, and yes, it will wipe your data, however you can back it up from recovery.

But if it is with marshmallow, a custom rom will still have this problem, won't it? - and which custom rom should i install? from where did you download it?

From my own experience, it seems like it's a wakelock problem. And using Xposed on a stock Rom broke calls, so that's why I was suggesting it

Yes, but they're much more customizable, as I said, if it's a wakelock problem, Amplify will solve it. I recommend Sokoban's ROMS and Nautilus

Well, I give it a try, I can return to stock lollipop if it doesn't help after all. I don't think a battery extender will solve the problem, though.

Guys I need some advise, I'm experiencing regular sod's after waking up from deep sleep. I need to force reboot to get out of it, I already tried several kernels and different ROMs but it only happens on AOSP/CM ROMs. Touchwiz ones are OK and the deep sleep is perfect with waking up from it. I am on the old bootloader though. Now my question could it be the old bootloader? Should I upgrade and trip knoxx?
I already tried to get several log's with ADB but once in a sod my device isn't recognised anymore by my PC.
Has somebody else such experiences as I really like AOSP/CM ROMs but the sod's force me to use TW.
Thx in advance.

They'll come by themselves, dont worry.
If it is just on CM/AOSP IMHO it is the bootloader issue.
Plus if your phone is a year old, you can trip knox. Eitherways you wont have warranty.
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ?"
It's possible that it's because of the old bootloader, but it's also possible that it's just the rom causing it.
You could try to flash the new bootloader and see if it solves it. There is no downside to it.
I see you are from the Netherlands, so you don't need to worry about voiding warranty. You can't lose it by rooting and/or tripping knox etc.

Hi Lennyz1988,
I already tried several cm/aosp roms and several kernels (even stock) ones. Same issue, after waking up from deep sleep (after 3-8 hours +) the system freezes and I need to hard reset phone. I'm on TW right now and no issues. I guess it's the old bootloader, weird thing is that some other users have also old bootloader and I see no such reporting from them. I first thought it's the launcher (I always use nova) but it seemed not related. I guess my S4 sleeps toooooo deep. So unroot and flash latest stock Tom from Sammy for my country (bought the so at media markt germany) and CF root again I guess.
You had same issues?
Thx again
@MAX 404 @Lennyz1988
I tripped my KNOX and flashed latest Sammy firmware for my country (NG8) but still freeze on CM/AOSP.
Now my question could it be that i didn`t install "busybox" (from the playstore)?
Could it be that CM/AOSP ROM`s need busybox installed to function 100%?
I got a netgear router WNDR3700v1, the freeze also only happens when connected to wifi, with mobile data (3G, 2G etc) everything is fine.
Maybe "downgrade" the firmware of the router.
Sry to bother you guys, but i want to get rid of this freaking issue.

Hi mate,
i am not an expert on CM/AOSP roms but one thing that is common to all roms is that wifi is kernel control ,anyhow is not a common problem the one you got.
Did you try different kernels?
Did you try any wifi scheduler app to switch it on or off automatically?
Hi MAX 404, Trust me I tried almost everything. Different kernels, different AOSP/CM ROMs, even tripped Knox by flashing new boot loader. But... It seems to be solved.. I installed busybox and downgraded my router firmware. This morning I had no sod after 8,5 hours deep sleep. Or it is busybox or the downgrade of the router firmware.

Good morning MAX 404, SOD again this morning but I froze "google search" yesterday to save some battery maybe that was the cause?
Quite sleepy device I have, it sleeps to deep. What breaks my head is that this caused only with CM/AOSP Rom's and not TW.

After you flash CM, do you restore anything? Don't restore anything but just try it with a clean version of the rom.

Yes, that would be my last and final step before giving up and switching back to TW.
In a previous discussion with kerbiii, he suggested a possible solution to downgrade firmware (after the 5.1.1 COJ5 update which blocks downgrades through ODIN) by using a TWRP backup from someone with the same device. So, can someone owning the same device (SM-910C) and using a 4.4.4 Stock Rom with the TWRP installed share a backup of his device's ROM?
Hooking to this same subject, is there a place to download stock ROMS in TWRP recovery format?

Hahaha No No dear!! Marshmallow has a good battery backup like kitkat. The reason behind your battery draining fast on Marshmallow is because you didn't do a factory reset of your phone after the update. Did you install marshmallow via OTA ??

Well... Since how many months or year(s) are you using your phone? coz somewhere I read that the note 4 battery doesn't last for more than 1 year if used heavily everyday like gaming and all that stuff. In some cases, the battery even swells a little. There's a life time as to how many times the battery can be charged and discharged. Buy a new battery or just borrow a note 4 battery from any of your friend (who has a note 4) for 1 day just to test and see if something is wrong with your phone itself instead of the battery.
it doesnt work i tried it earlier . also i tried more than 20 possible solutions and non of them works (i did everything even jtag) and i have spent more than 200$ on these things no result , and if these limits really bother you then welcome to the club just make sure you wont buy another sammy after n4 , have fun

Hey, have you tried restoration of a kitkat "twrp backup" from another Note4 (n910c)?
hey guys, so i have a retgb stock rom for lollipop, how would i go about just flashing the modem from that rom. I want to do this to test a theory i have about the battery drain on marshmallow, to see if its caused by the new modem, any help would be appreciated...
certainly not caused by the modem. Did you clean flash? What did you do to upgrade? etc? have you disabled wifi/bluetooth scanning in the extended location settings, deleted play services data yet?

updated from a stock moto x play single sim, retgb to marshmellow via normal ota, had no root or bootloader unlocked. After the ota i installed twrp and rooted, wiped cache and data, did a factory reset. Then did everything you said above. Then tried with squid kernel, still have massive battery drain about 1 hour sot and barely lasts me 1 day. So yea... i thought it was worth a shot just trying my idea about the modem...

@Benjamin_L well i can safely say that xposed makes no differece that i can see to the battery life so far. After flashing the old stock (5.0, including the modem, through fastboot) then going back to 6.0 by flashing the stock rom by GtrCraft via twrp my battery life seems to have improved quite a bit. So maybe it is the modem after all? Also why did you say it cant be the modem in the first post? just curious...

I ran both modems on 5.1.1 and 6.0 on several roms and stock firmwares and there was no difference, except for rom related things. And I never heard modem influences battery life dramtically if at all. On my old n4 i flashed several basebands and never noticed any difference in battery consumption at all.

I'm currently running the latest version of PureNexus and debating installing Android Oreo. Are there any huge downsides? Is it buggy, slow, etc? In other words, is it daily driver ready for someone who uses their phone all day for music, video, games, EVERYTHING and still wants to tweak the os to their needs.

Unless you're worried about the security updates, just stay on PN. PN for Oreo should be out soon as well.
That makes a lot of sense, thanks.

I was on PN since I got my 6P and updated to Oreo as soon as it came out. I don't regret the decision at all. Battery life is as good or better than PN (I routinely end the day with 4+ hours of SOT and 35-40% left. Your experience may vary depending on usage), performance is wonderful, and I haven't found any major bugs yet. All of my favorite mods work (EX kernel, Pixel mod, Camera NX, WakeBlock, and a few others I'm forgetting).
The only downside is some modifications require a bit more work. For example, to resize the navigation bar and add dynamic coloring I had to extract, modify, and push framework-res.apk instead of having those options built right into the settings menu. There's no custom quick settings tiles and I can't change the number of rows/columns, but that isn't a big deal and I've learned to live without it for now.
As stated above PN based on Oreo should be out within the next month or two. Beans posted an announcement on G+ yesterday explaining that he had a family emergency that slowed down development on PN O, but he is actively working on it as much as he can.

I went from PN to 8.1. Honestly, stick with PN. I used it for a couple days and I am downgrading right now. My battery life was significantly worse (on 7.1.2 I ended the day at ~40-50% battery. On 8.1 I was at ~20-30). I didn't notice anything great about Oreo and found myself missing PN.

Don't mean to sound like a complete noob, but how did you go on about wiping the phone completely? I've now tried so many things, reflashing TWRP, reinstalling stock firmwares, using Wug's Nexus Rooting kit, ... I can acces fastboot, what do I need to do to be able to reinstall TWRP? Because when I try it right now, I can't acces it. It goes back into the boot loop.

Anyone have anything similar happen?
On OOS 10.5.13 rooted with Magisk stable 20.4.
Tested on several kernels, same results.
A reboot fixes this temporarily but eventually will go back to max. Any help would be appreciated!

So it's not going to be anything to do with the ROM. I'm on 10.5.12 UK which is the same as 13 in your region.
Honestly, I'm on xXx and rooted.
Just don't flash the kernel tweaks..
Just go with the stock kernel.. performance seems to be the emphasis on all of the custom kernels yet battery doesn't..
This is a side effect of it..
The reason it's been inherited between kernels is because there are values or even a few changes which haven't reverted.
You may even need to reinstall the OS. Unless you can isolate the changes causing it..just saying. Maybe quicker.

It stays stuck permanently. Rebooting helps for a short while but then it goes back.
Yeah I haven't tried stock yet but something tells me it's not kernel related, but possibly some app or module.

I don't have any kernel tweaks installed, just a couple of Magisk modules like systemless hosts for AdAway, fonts, and BusyBox.
Having trouble isolating the issue so I may need to wipe and start fresh. Just thought maybe a user here had a similar experience and could tell me what caused it for them so I can fix it myself.
Appreciate the responses!
Welcome mate, tbh though I don't shouldn't say you need a kernel for performance.
Maybe battery life but tbh the stock kernel does a decent enough job..if you do wipe, I wouldn't bother with custom kernels.
The performance is defined there already.

Yeah I just try to find a more lightweight kernel where OnePlus' debugging is removed. Maybe the difference is not noticeable in performance/day to day use so I guess for me it's more of a OCD thing lol
I mainly only like high brightness mode in terms of kernel features. Otherwise I get about the same battery results with every kernel, which is 11%-15% drain per hour.
As for this CPU issue, it's been flawless all day. I'm trying my hardest to stress test the device to see what exactly triggers it. If it remains fine throughout the night and by morning, I guess I saved myself a couple of hours for wiping and getting my setup back!
Will keep this thread posted if I ever manage to find the culprit.
Did you end up finding the culprit? I'm facing the exact same problem. I'm on stock 10.5.13 global, stock kernel. Rooted with magisk 20.4, No mods except for youtube vanced and adaway. Any help is appreciate Ed.

Unfortunately no, however I don't have the issue anymore after switching to Omega Kernel.
I'm not trying to say the kernel I was previously on caused the issue, and that Omega resolved it; just saying that's the only change I made and now my CPU cores are behaving normally and haven't given me problems since.
Maybe try playing around with custom kernels yourself? Also check for what apps you have chosen not to be battery optimized, could be a potential culprit as well.

I flashed omega kernel like you suggested, and the problem just went away. It's been three days now with omega and everything has been great so far. Thanks again!

Which app you used to check the cpu cores?

EX Kernel Manager.
Issue came back just last night...frustrating. Noticed battery life was going fast, might need to factory reset at this point.

Mine hasn't come back yet, everything is still good thankfully. I'm still on omega. I just can't wrap my brain around this one. And no one else seem to be experiencing this problem.. I searched high and low on this forum, believe me. You and I are the only ones reporting this so far i think.

Yup, seems like it.
Might bite the bullet and reset this thing when I get some time this week.
Update on this issue:
Ended up factory resetting shortly after I originally posted this and everything is working as normal!
Switched to the Pixel 5 though, so will not be keeping an eye on this thread any longer. If anyone else experiences this, seems like a factory reset will do the trick if all else fails! Just install everything back one by one to ensure it's not an app or mod causing it.
