Guys I need some advise, I'm experiencing regular sod's after waking up from deep sleep. I need to force reboot to get out of it, I already tried several kernels and different ROMs but it only happens on AOSP/CM ROMs. Touchwiz ones are OK and the deep sleep is perfect with waking up from it. I am on the old bootloader though. Now my question could it be the old bootloader? Should I upgrade and trip knoxx?
I already tried to get several log's with ADB but once in a sod my device isn't recognised anymore by my PC.
Has somebody else such experiences as I really like AOSP/CM ROMs but the sod's force me to use TW.
Thx in advance.

They'll come by themselves, dont worry.
If it is just on CM/AOSP IMHO it is the bootloader issue.
Plus if your phone is a year old, you can trip knox. Eitherways you wont have warranty.
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ?"
It's possible that it's because of the old bootloader, but it's also possible that it's just the rom causing it.
You could try to flash the new bootloader and see if it solves it. There is no downside to it.
I see you are from the Netherlands, so you don't need to worry about voiding warranty. You can't lose it by rooting and/or tripping knox etc.

Hi Lennyz1988,
I already tried several cm/aosp roms and several kernels (even stock) ones. Same issue, after waking up from deep sleep (after 3-8 hours +) the system freezes and I need to hard reset phone. I'm on TW right now and no issues. I guess it's the old bootloader, weird thing is that some other users have also old bootloader and I see no such reporting from them. I first thought it's the launcher (I always use nova) but it seemed not related. I guess my S4 sleeps toooooo deep. So unroot and flash latest stock Tom from Sammy for my country (bought the so at media markt germany) and CF root again I guess.
You had same issues?
Thx again
@MAX 404 @Lennyz1988
I tripped my KNOX and flashed latest Sammy firmware for my country (NG8) but still freeze on CM/AOSP.
Now my question could it be that i didn`t install "busybox" (from the playstore)?
Could it be that CM/AOSP ROM`s need busybox installed to function 100%?
I got a netgear router WNDR3700v1, the freeze also only happens when connected to wifi, with mobile data (3G, 2G etc) everything is fine.
Maybe "downgrade" the firmware of the router.
Sry to bother you guys, but i want to get rid of this freaking issue.

Hi mate,
i am not an expert on CM/AOSP roms but one thing that is common to all roms is that wifi is kernel control ,anyhow is not a common problem the one you got.
Did you try different kernels?
Did you try any wifi scheduler app to switch it on or off automatically?
Hi MAX 404, Trust me I tried almost everything. Different kernels, different AOSP/CM ROMs, even tripped Knox by flashing new boot loader. But... It seems to be solved.. I installed busybox and downgraded my router firmware. This morning I had no sod after 8,5 hours deep sleep. Or it is busybox or the downgrade of the router firmware.

Good morning MAX 404, SOD again this morning but I froze "google search" yesterday to save some battery maybe that was the cause?
Quite sleepy device I have, it sleeps to deep. What breaks my head is that this caused only with CM/AOSP Rom's and not TW.

After you flash CM, do you restore anything? Don't restore anything but just try it with a clean version of the rom.

Hi Lennyz1988, yes my apps with data with Tibu except the google ones (maps, etc) I download them from play store and no system apps. I know the drill ?
Yes, that would be my last and final step before giving up and switching back to TW.

Hello good people of XDA i own a gs4 for about a year. Absolutelyawesome phone, ... But recently i've had some problem.
Ok so let me explain if i was to lock my phone for longer time not touch it (1 hour or half an hour) when i unlock touchwizz freezes tho i can use things like notification bar.
So i tried fixing it. it happened to me before
- my phone is rooted
-it's not the battery
The only thing that helps is install a custom rom or install a custom rom and then revert to stock.
And i do root the phone, i know i can fix it clean install custom rom then stock rom, but i really have a lot of stuff on my phone.
I am using stock rom all the time and it could be that the problem is Root or something i really dont have a clue

Idk i can try with a new battery maybe it'll do the trick
Hey,
I'm thinking about putting a custom ROM on my handset, can anyone help me out and let me know the benefits of this and if it's really worth it?
Performance, customisation, more storage space
But generally at the expense of stability

Thanks for that,
If I did put a custom ROM on my S5, could I reset the device and it would go back to normal if I didn't like it?
Also in regards to the stability part, with the new update I have got on my S5 at the moment. The phone isn't what it used to be, they don't even display notifications on the phone without opening it.
Yea you can return to stock, but you can't do it by just resetting, you need to flash the stock ROM using ODIN, once you flash any ROM, resetting it will just reset that specific ROM, to change ROMs you need to flash the one you want
Factory resetting after updating from KK to LP is always recommended with stock, for the notifications, you have a load of lock screen settings you can look through, might find what you need in there - possibly in the security settings too, there are some that disable sensitive notifications when the phone is locked

Is rooting on an android device relatively easy?
Or if anyone else has a good custom ROM I could use, I'm pretty new to this.....so something that isn't too stressful would be good!

It's very easy. You can use CF Auto Root for whatever android version you have.
keep in mind that rooting voids your warranty and will trip KNOX flag which leads to that you can't update using official methods such as via kies or OTA.

Hello Friends
I have been searching the internet for days on how to root the Note 5 N9208 dual sim and finally found something that seem stable.
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means taking credit for this root method, I am just sharing what I found because I know how hard the information can be to find on the internet. As you should already know, with flashing there is always a risk so you are always responsible for you own device
1. First you are going to want to enable OEM Unlock and USB debugging in the developer option.
2. Go to Samsung app store and get the CROM service app. (this is needed so you can flash custom roms, on some phones you won't be able to flash anything if you don't do this step)
3. Download Permissive kernel (from xiaolu) for N9208 with auto root: N9208-TW-Root (0909) .tar flash it with Odin3.10.7 (extract tar-file from zip, put it in section and flash AP)
At this point you should now have root, beyond this step will explain how to get TWRP recovery.
4. Official TWRP for Samsung Galaxy Note 5 DUOS you can found here ... (download tar-file, put it in AP section and flash with Odin3.10.7).
This information was accumulated by searching the web. My thanks goes out to all developers who help me to arrive at a root solution. If you, a developer come here and see a violation that I overlooked please inbox me and I will rectify it right away Thanks again
Thanks for the guide. Do you have more information on the kernel?

Sad to say, I didn't find much information on the web about the performance of this kernel. It just showed up as a way to gain root.
Not being about to accumulate any data on the kernel I kinda was back and forth in my mind if I should use it or not. after hours of thinking and really wanted root I decided to give it a go in a all or re-flash moment(nothing).
Turn out to be pretty good with no change in performance vs the stock kernel. Once flashed I saw superSU there installed and ready to go.
Now I was concern about the random reboots I heard about with other kernels but I have been using the phone for 3 days now and I haven't encountered any lags, no reboots, no drop of signals or calls. I have not yet installed any games on my phone so I don't know how it will be with heavy usage of that nature.
If you decide to give this a try please post any findings of abnormalities here. Thank you

Nice guide for obtaining root!
I already have rooted my Note 5 using the SpaceX kernel, but as some of you know this kernel has the random reboot issue.
What would be the procedure for me to flash this kernel. Can I just flash over the current SpaceX kernel or would I have to go another route?
Appreciate the help.

Cheers for the quick help! So just Odin flash this kernel directly over my current setup...will get right to it
Flashed the kernel and rebooted...all seems well. Now further testing and hopefully no weird issues like random reboots and/or deep sleep bug.
and We still don't know where it came from ??
but it Works
I seen it on a russian site thats all I know
but it works !!
Indeed...it's all rather strange No dev, no nothing...but it does work :good:
I got 4% battery usage in some 10 hours standby and that's pretty decent in my book.
Performance seems on par with stock kernel. Now for another couple of days of further testing to see if it holds up...(no random reboots and such).
I was at about 6%at 7hrs.....but I have one drive syncing. ..but before I had 15-20%....
and no reboots and I am rooted!!!!

I play games, listen to music, make calls on both sims, send emails and have dual whatsapp going all day. with all that activity I manage to get 13 hours out of the phone, I plug in at 18%. to me thats good. What do you guys think?

Hello,
I have installed the android 6 to my p8 lite dual sim phone. C432b574 - I got the OTA update recently but it didn't update, and others told me to update manually, so I did.
I updated from b170.
The problem is the battery started heating up like never before with normal usage. Besides that when I checked the consumption levels it showed that hardware used 95-99% and softwares used the remaining. It is unnatural because I use the phone like I used to use with lollipop. I had been using it for 2 weeks now.
I tried wiping cache partition, updated all of the apps and someone told me the google services may screw up with the new system so I deleted those too, the problem still on.
Should I take it to the repair shop for a battery exchange? Maybe mine is faulty?
Regards, Ghostmuffin - thanks in advancew
I've also had those problems, the high hardware consumption is probably a first time error. For me, the one's causing havoc are the Google Play Services, actually you didn't remove anything, you can't remove them without basically turning your phone useless. Time to consider a deodexed ROM and using amplify (requires Xposed)

I could remove the updates.
And you installed deodexed update or how did you manage to solve it then?
I'll wait for other replies before rooting the phone.
I have never rooted a phone before, one thing is not clear for me, can I install a custom android 6 while it is currently on the phone or should I downgrade it first? The other question is, does it wipe my data?

Well my device also heats up when playing heavy games like gta san andreas, modern strike, asphalt 8 etc.... I think this is due to octa core processor. Which generates more heat as compare to quad core. I haven't used any octa core devices other than this so might be wrong.

Removing updates fixes nothing, as it seems to be a problem with Marshmallow itself, and yes, I downloaded a custom ROM, it's not a very advanced procedure but you should be careful. You should install it over the current ones, making wipes with a custom recovery, and yes, it will wipe your data, however you can back it up from recovery.

Yes, there is few problems with Marshmallow and battery.. Flash Custom ROM, i haven't had any problem since flashing custom rom ..
Sent from my ALE-L21 using XDA-Developers mobile app
So, I had a day 1 v20 that began randomly rebooting back in december. Thought it was a hardware issue and finally got around to replacing it the other day. Now, after getting the replacement v20 set up on a custom rom (AICP) I'm seeing random reboots again. I've tried every single custom rom available for the h918 and they all experience reboots. When i've asked about the issue in the threads it seems as if I'm the only one. It appears to be a custom-rom only problem that apparently no one else is experiencing? The kernel panics are being caused by the modem, and it started happening when I upgraded to the 10j base. This replacement also came with 10j. Am I just super unlucky with two duds or is there really something going on here?
TLDR; Anyone else with a h918 with 10j bootloader/modem running custom roms and seeing random reboots?
What kernel do you use? If you use Konverged, it seems to give random reboots after a while of use. I noticed that right away though.

This is a fresh replacement device with a clean rom install. There was no data to wipe. Happens even without any apps installed and it's completely random and cannot be reproduced. The only thing I know is the modem is causing the kernel panics.

Im just wondering if for some reason the 10J is messing with it somehow. What rom are you using and what other roms have you used in the past that give you this issue?

So things that already have issues :silly:
All jokes aside. I would recommend trying Weta to see if that helps. Very stable rom

The entire point here is that I don't want to run stock or anything based on stock. I would simply chalk it up to the Lineage base but since I'm one of a serious minority having this problem I'm led to believe it's something simpler that can be fixed. Possibly related to 10j as most custom ROM users are still running 10d firmware

Anything not based on stock will give you issues. One reason why I like stock based roms is because the second screen will actually work... I would atleast test a stock based rom to see how it goes. If it works and doesnt crash, Then something is wrong with the rom or your could be flashing it wrong :/ Idk, just an idea to test. Non stock roms will Always give you issues. Always
If you still have issues on a stock based rom, then I would downgrade with the kdz and try again. Its probably crashing since the modem is 10j and the rom isnt really fit for that.

I never used the second screen, it's more of a nuisance for me. Everything it did can be replaced by gestures and lockscreen settings on custom. Only thing I miss is notifications but that's why we have ambient display.
I might try downgrading to the 10i firmware to see what happens. Unfortunately there are no 10d flashables. Otherwise this ROM is flawless.

Not to shoot down your opinion, but why would you get it if the Second screen is a nuisance to you?? Im also pretty sure camera is screwed on custom roms.... I just dont have that appeal. Its better safe than sorry to check and see if a stock rom works fine than to downgrade and it still doesnt work :/ Idk thats my 2 cents

It was between this and the axon 7. I didn't want a fullHD screen so that eliminated a lot of the other options.

Note 7 chaos force you to this phone as well? I prefer the second screen tbh. I haven't touched a custom rom since my note 2 and I had issues with them then. But hey, if it ends up working then more power to ya

Not a Samsung fan. Especially with KNOX. I buy phones first based on the chances of development producing workable custom ROMs and second based on hardware features.
Back to the main topic: I just managed to flash the 10i modem alone so we'll see what happens. I'm working on extracting the 10d modem as well.

UPDATE: Flashing the 10i modem made no difference, still having random reboots (although they seem less frequent), I will try the 10d modem once I find a way to extract it from the TOT files posted on this forum.
