It's my understanding that 7.1 is what shipped on the Pixel. The DP is 7.1.1. I have no idea what the changelog is between the two. I'm sure Google has it posted somewhere.

7.1 is pixel XL ia there is any difference in 7.1.1 for nexus 6p??
Thanks for your help

All this feels like Google are fragmenting their own OS. Crazy.

Yep, its getting more confusing by the minute...

They're using the DP program (or us Nexus users) to get the kinks out of the next release for the Pixel, which would be 7.1.1. Makes sense to me

Could you elaborate why please? I just want to know whether it's worth the effort. Thanks.

I literally have no lag ever at the moment. It was good on 7.0 but even with a customer kernel, not buttery smooth. I also found that on 7.0 I was getting good standby but with screen on, it was eating battery. Now it barely seems to drop at all and the standby is great.

6.0 performance is smooth enough for me not to care about 6.0.1. what if 6.0.1 screws it up.
and battery is awesome in 6.0.
Not even every moto x play has official marshmallow..

There has been a lot of users noting a significant decrease in battery life running 6.0.1, this could be due to the fact that the doze feature doesn't seem to work in that update, and all you really get in return is some emoji's and a camera shortcut (which wouldn't really work with MXP given where the power button is anyway). 6.0.0 is fine to be honest.
I'll be happy enough to get 6.0 at this point. O_O
and then you can flash 6.0.1 emojis on 6.0, lol

Smart Lock with Bluetooth Low Energy devices is all screwed up in 6.0 - the Nexus devices had the same problem and this was fixed in 6.0.1. That's the biggest reason why I'm really hoping we'll see an update soon. I'm not holding my breath, though.
6.0.1 changes very little, I doubt it'll 'screw up' the battery performance.

Yep, in 6.0 my MI band isn't visible in Bluetooth devices or smart lock at all but I got it paired to the Mi app from within the app itself.
Bluetooth headsets and audio adaptors/car adaptors are visible and smart lock/work as they should.

Android 7.1 Developer Preview Released

Android 7.1 developer preview has been released for our device post your experience below
Update: Android 7.1.1 DP2 has been released
Bought my pixel c last week, trying out the dev preview.. works great so far. Running totally stock at the moment obviously not rooted or unlocked. Installed seemlessly and it absorbed my current setup with no problems. Battery seems to last much better than my previous device - asus tf300.

The only problem I have so far is it seems to loose WiFi.
You have to reboot, then it reconnects no issue.
Not seeing a big difference 7.0 to 7.1.1 and this WiFi thing is very annoying.
The other thing that is annoying Google sells 3 products under the Pixel name.
Pixel/Pixel XL get the Pixel Launcher.
Pixel C (still a current product) no Pixel Launcher. I

I'm running the 7.1.1 dev preview, and installed the Pixel launcher and the Pixel (circular) icons pack. Only a few (at best) icons are circular now, though -- Calendar is the only one that comes to mind. This is the pack that became available ~Oct. 19. Anyone have any idea how to get ALL of the icons circular, as they are on my Pixel XL?
Also, the launcher's G search button and weather/date quasi-widget is about 1/4 down from the top of the screen, and is not at the top as it is on my Pixel XL. There's just a bunch of dead blank space above it. I'm wondering if this will eventually be fixed for the Pixel C, or if it's going to be something like the gigantic hunk of dead space that was below the stock digital clock on the home screen of my Nexus 10.
FWIW, no wifi disconnect issues on 7.1.1, but I had none before for that matter. And I've never disabled location or bluetooth scanning.

Back to the Nexus Family

I just got my Nexus 5x. The last Nexus phone I've had was a 4 and it was awesome but I had to leave the Nexus line alone because my phone company wouldn't sell nor cover them with insurance.
Now I have an 5x coming from a Galaxy S7 and I must say this phone blows out my s7 every way ... But I don't understand how with the specs being lower than the s7. Can somebody explain?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
samsung is bloated with fearures, which means more running services. also bigger resolution need more juice
that being said, i doubt that s7 has nothing over 5x, especially with 5x's meh speaker..
in any case, this is the best time to join the "nexus peasants" as there is 7.1.1 beta ongoing. most users say its stable and better than 7.0 and personally i gained 1h sot (3 to 4)
My phone's battery is really well over my s7. I work 12 hours and around hour 4 my phone is dead. My Nexus last me all shift

I also often work 10s and 12s. I think the real battery gain lies in excellent standby time we get from this phone. I can work all day with about an hour of heavy usage throughout the shift, LTE enabled most of the day and still have 60-70% by the time I get home (including another hour of use listening to music in the car). My standby time is phenomenal. The fact that I have a custom ROM and kernel tweaks undoubtedly adds battery life, but I hear stock N is pretty comparable...but as they say, your mileage may vary.
However, I can tell you from personal experience that Galaxy battery life is usually abysmal

Root that 5x,install Viper4Arise add @guitardedhero's audiophile profile and.irs samples and you got the best sound system ever! I work in the music business and with Viper installed I carry a hi fidelity sound system in my pocket. I used to do the "Samsung Galaxy Thing"but after I dropped it, I bought a Galaxy Nexus, then the Nexus 4,5,6,5x,&6p and I still have em all in the box in mint Condition. IN MY OPINION, YOU CANNOT GET A BETTER,MORE RELIABLE,ALWAYS CUTTING EDGE,& ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BRICK.My moto Nexus 6 had a hole in the top of the screen, about 2" in diameter(from my 2y/o.)& It kept rocking for another year before I had to replace it.

there is a mod to make your phone stereo, i used it and its ok but its very hard to balance the speakers and it affects other sounds like calls or ringing, so you cant increase/decrease balance too much before it becomes incovenient. also its impossible to balance them anyway cause the bottom is bassier, so you balance it for a song and its all over the place in the next.
i imagine you flash viper like you do all zips, have not used it since years
if your root is systemless then you receive OTA just fine. heck, i received ota while i was using stock+ rom, flash kernel, hawktail profile, thermal engine edits, was rooted and had custom recovery xD

Ota breaks root...NEVER OTA... I use wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit to flash stock then go through the root process on the new image. I am not running 7.1, I haven't tried it yet, works like a beast on 7.0, look up the Viper4arise forum right here on XDA, and VERY CAREFULLY READ THE ENTIRE OP BEFORE YOU BEGIN.Or you can really screw up if you don't know what you are doing,if you do,root then install the latest Deut. with audiophile profile. You can flash through TWRP but you have to extract the Audiophile profile and copy profile onto your SD or internal storage,or into the Viper4android folder that was installed when you flashed the appropriate zip.

before 7.1.1 i would say yes, otherwise no unless you want more customization (though xposed is not released for nougat)
as i said, you better not do anything about the speakers as there is no way to balance them, and after only a week not using the stereo mod i honestly dont feel like i miss it
maybe you can install viper as stakmak advices

Have you looked into Greenify/Amplify and such? I know they can be hit or miss, but I consistently get 5-6h sot that way along with Dirty Unicorns ROM and EX kernel. LTE on most of the time, and some gaming. For the record though, I could never break 4h sot on stock M. Same with N dev preview. Too erratic.

no xposed for nugat yet
other than that greenify would be useless on nougat, and since the standby drain is great i doubt amplify would do much too. its just my usage thats special, 5x on 7.1.1 has the best battery on any phone i owned and it lasts a day so its certainly not bad

Android 7.1.2 Rolling out now

Seems 7.1.2 is starting to rollout to some Pixel C owners according to 9to5Goolge, not got it myself yet, anyone grab the OTA if they get it?
https://9to5google.com/2017/04/02/android-7-1-2-pixel-c-update/

Got the update in the UK yesterday and another bonus is I now also get the cool pixel live wallpapers that I have on my Pixel XL.
One more minor change I've noticed since getting 7.1.2 is that wallpapers now appear slightly darker when you set them than before. That's a good thing I think as previously maybe 60%of all Google's default wallpapers were so light that they didn't contrast well with the app icons and you often couldn't read the app icon labels. This had been the case going back multiple android versions on previous devices. Seems like Google have finally addressed it, well at least on the Pixel C.
Yup, just got it here in UK also. Dunno whether I like it yet? Wasn't offered. Had to check manually.
Full OTA images are up for anyone who doesn't want to wait ...

Has anyone else noticed slow charging since the update to 7.1.2? I've just unplugged mine after an hour on the standard charger and the increase was only about 15%?!
Only got the update yesterday so first charge since...mostly looks good but fast charging is an essential for me, so hopefully if there's a bug affecting fast rapid charging it's fixed soon!

Nope, then again, I use an Anker charge box & lead, and never used stock charger etc., blisteringly fast as normal, always has been, since 7.0.0.
7.1.2 seems to have slowed my pixel c down to a snails pace. Have just factory reset, but still seems slow. For example swiping left on the home screen to get to Google now used to be smooth, but is now jerky. Anyone else experiencing this?

Not to the extent that you mention. But app loading and Chrome web page loading does feel slower.
Have been playing around and seems worse if the screen size is set to small (which is what i generally use on my pixel c and Nexus 6p). Setting back to default size makes the performance better, but still doesn't feel as smooth as it should on a device like this.
@narse,
FWIW: I just rebooted my router, and my issues are solved.

Stay with Nougat vs Go on with Oreo?

Hello fellow Mate 9 Pro users,
I have just received an update notification that my Mate 9 Pro is ready for Oreo (with EMUI 8).
There is only one thing that's holding me back; I'm afraid that the update will give me performance hit.
Currently I'm still fine with Nougat, everything is smooth and zero issue.
For some of you who have updated, do you regret or happy?
Do you experience any lag that was not present in Nougat?
I want to hear from you.
Thanks.
I'm on c636, Oreo update is there but still not approved for my phone.
The only way your really going to find out if there's any lag that your satisfied or not satisfied with is by updating and seeing for yourself I guess and you should be safe because there are rollback packages. Just make sure your region is compatible with the rollback. If there are no roll backs ( I haven't checked ) for your region then sit tight.
Personally I like to wait quite a long time before I update because when I do update I know that what I'm updating with has as many bugs or issues ironed out as possible. I only updated my mate 8 to nougat a few days ago. It's pretty much tip top.
