Lg calculator is off, the music app is there but no icon.
Verizon variant has email, gallery, calendar, clock, etc...
For me, battery is great.

I have the same exact problem. GSAM app shows something related to carrier iq.
Just to be sure, your not hitting the quick toggles on the notification panel..correct?
Had this happen as well.....i was surprised to see nlpwakelocks again all of a suddent, then I caught the gps turning on by itself.....the SOB was very persistent too: it would turn back on immediately after I disable it. So I disabled carrier iq and havent seen GPS running again....lets hope that fixes it
Mine has been doing this too. Been trying to track it down this afternoon.

Yup, ATT ;/
It sure is. Im not so much concerned about privacy as I am about battery life. I hate wakelocks!!!! :silly:
I have the same issue (AT&T version). Is there a way to disable/remove Carrier IQ without rooting?
Having this same issue. What do I freeze/remove in titanium?

Yes I'm sure lol. Do you know what carrier IQ is though, and how to disable it? I was thinking about rooting to disable it with Ti Backup but I hear it'd not trivial to find.

So I'm rooted and have been furiously trying to find that SOB, with no luck. I may just uninstall Google apps and Google play services, it's killing my battery.. Went from ~18 hours a day to 9

It really just depends on what you use your phone for the apps that are a must have for me are titanium backup, soundhound, music ocean, business calendar, Facebook quick office, audio profiles just to name a few.

True.... I believe that was the only app I included that needed root access. I should have stated that.
Are you guys on verizon with the S5? I meant just regular apps for now that do not need Root. I just got on verizon so im not sure what there rules are with rooting & if the S5 verizon can even be rooted. Also is there a way to make the audio louder & sound better on the S5 thru headphones? I used DSP manager on my old HTC worked well.

I'm on Verizon. You can run any app on Verizon that you are used to running on TMO or Sprint or AT&T. As far as rules for rooting...Verizon does not recommend you root and if you do they will not honor any warranty, regardless of whose warranty it is...not much different than any other carrier. But, that doesn't stop users from rooting because you can unroot your phone if you have to return it to Verizon...but they can still tell it's been rooting at one time or another. As far as louder audio...I'll have to pass on that, my audio is plenty loud enough.

I have an S5 Developer Edition. I am rooted and running a custom ROM. Nonetheless, my response to your question remains the same, you should be able to run any app on your Verizon S5 that you ran on a TMO or other carrier phone. The only exception would be an app that has been specifically developed for that carrier, and all carriers have them to include Verizon. Apps that allow you to view / access your carrier specific account information, special carrier specific ringtones etc will only run on a carrier specific phone...you get the idea. You don't have to be rooted to tweak your phone. You can download a different launcher like Apex or Nova, there are a bunch of different launchers, and you can theme your phone. But to be honest, the greatest amount of "tweaking" can only be done if you're rooted. Root by itself does nothing, it's what you do after root enables the "tweaking". With the S5 you can install Safestrap (after rooting) that will enable you to flash a custom Touchwiz based ROM if you really want to tweak your phone. Hope I haven't given you more information that you needed, LOL.

Carrier specific features?

Recently bought the S7 for Verizon while my friend bought it for AT&T. I was looking for a setting to turn off the touch key backlights and could not find one. Ended up asking my friend who is on AT&T and sure enough he had a setting under display that allowed him to turn the backlight off on the touch keys. Is this a normal thing for carriers to pick and choose specific features? I know I can download and app but really??
Verizon crippled this phone. We are missing a few things, Whitepages, samsung browser, smart manager and other little settings here and there.
If you like power saver it disables the touch keys. There was an app floating around the Verizon s7 or s7 edge forums that does this.

That's amazing. I had no idea that carriers could even do that. Doesn't really make any sense because what benefit did they get out of it....oh well. Good ole Verizon

Yeah I could just turn on power saver but the phone already has an option to disable the touch key lights! Can't fathom how it would help Verizon to disable that option. Doesn't make any sense. Probably will just end up downloading an app.

Personally I'd rather they disable a few features (though I'm not happy they did, in fact I complained to Verizon and Samsung via Twitter) then add in push advertisements for DirecTv, as AT&T did.
When they are willing to have push n first boot, what are they going to do in 3 months when you can't return the phone?

Very true, those push ads were a bit outrageous. Honestly might just return this phone if the bootloader's really are locked down. At least Verizon gives you a 14 day trial period!

Benefits and drawbacks to the 935u software?

Updated 12 September 2016
------------------------------------
Alright, I know there has been a lot of conversation about loading the 935u package and rooting, but what are the benefits and drawbacks to using it stock?
Does volte work?
VVM?
WIFI calling?
How's battery life?
Thanks for the feedback!
----------------------------------------
Edit: 08 Sep 2016
Alright, I took the plunge, and the phone is faster, but be aware if you are coming from Verizon you will lose a few things if you do not root.
Here's what you lose:
- Verizon VVM
- WiFi Calling
- FM Radio (If you had the September Update)
- Builtin Video Calling (Verizon to Verizon)
- Message+ Integration with Edge and Gear S2
- All the other Verizon bloat (this is a good thing)
What you gain:
- DPI scaling is now a regular setting (no additional app needed)
- Identify numbers using builtin service
- Faster Updates
- Faster Phone
I'll update soon with battery comparisons. I'll miss the WiFi calling, but that's it.
Volte/wifi calling is excellent. I'm on pg9. No vvm and no cares. Battery is excellent. Stock that is.
The U Firmware works better than the Verizon firmware in the regards that it gets rid of all the Verizon bloat, turd-ware, spyware, etc. Additionally, you will continue to get OTAs (assuming you dont flash the eng boot). The big difference is that you will get OTAs for the Samsung (U) variant rather than the Verizon. This means that you will get updates much soon than if you were waiting on VZW to roll their firmwares, as they usually take no less than a month longer than everyone else to do their releases. As stated, only Visual Voicemail doesnt work, but you can root/flash that if you like to re-add it.

You can also download something like Google Voice or something if you need Visual voicemail
Has anyone noticed a decrease in signal strength on the U firmware? Even a small one? That seems to be the only real drawback that other members of XDA have mentioned.

Is there a guide that tells how to set up VVM with Google Voice? I've Googled it and I see some guides dated back to 2010, but I see some steps have changed (or I'm just not getting it lol).

Neither in particular just the actual signal. Like download/upload speeds, and call quality, coverage in certain areas, Verizons Advanced LTE, etc.

No issues here, when I first installed looking at the status bar it seemed a little weaker. But you can never go by that, speeds seem to be faster imo but I never tested them to be sure.
I've added this above, but just to add my experience.

I flashed this yesterday after posting. It says I have anew update. Should I take it, or stay on the sames version the guide gets us to install? Also, since visual voice-mail no longer works are there any alternatives that work just as good?

I tend to lean towards Google voice, but Google voice is more than just voice-mail. I use Google voice as a central contact number instead of my cell, it runs my phone, my watch if I'm remote, and my office line.

you can enable "force long display" to always open apps in 18:9 screen ratio.
ps: this will disable the app scaling feature as it'll always be 18:9..
there are other usefull stuff too like disabling LDB app which will free up some ram (about 100 mb). and other stuff..

I still don't quite understand the inner workings of how LG makes the app scaling work. If you switched DPI to <500 via adb it basically stops working, BUT so far I've not seen one app with weird graphics, even netflix: all i have to do is press the maximize button a second time when the video is playing full screen and the black bars go away.
