New V20 - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I just got my T-Mobile LG V20 from UPS. I am about to start installing all my stuff, but I was wondering if I should unlock the boot loader first. I read somewhere that it wipes the device when you do it, so shouldn't I do it now so I don't have to reinstall everything later? If the root method is baked into a ROM ill have to wipe anyway I guess.

I wouldn't unlock the bootloader. Not yet, anyway. There's a poster here that's hard bricked his phone.
You'll likely be doing a factory reset when you root anyway. Load it up.

Okay thanks.
Do you know if there is a package disabler for LG. Like the Package Disabler Pro for Samsung?

There's a thread discussing that very topic here in the LG V20 Section.

LG-STYLO H634 CRICKET Supersu/xposed framework installation guide

ok, so there are some things i've found out by doing some research and combining what i found on here with the issues that some people were having with the Cricket version of the LG Stylo, and would like to share with you guys. while i was rooting my phone with kingroot, i noticed a threat that discussed that using supersu me and supersu wasn't an option without soft bricking your phone with a boot loop, after some research and trial i figured out how to get around the problem. The issue was the uninstallation of kinguser app form the phone, this is because using supersu me uninstalls kingroot and replaced it with the superuser binaries, but it leaves some core files of kinguser behind which causes errors, an if you keep your phone on, you'll notice that you'll start getting error messages for an about kingroot permission and all types of errors until your phone starts to freeze and act up. there is an easy fix for it all that worked for me, and would like to share this information and help people having this issue.....
I'm posting this as a hint for those who needed the help with installing xposed on cricket model LG STYLO only running 5.1.1
so to begin, download system repair 2016 and apps2sd from play store, kinguser directly from their site so it will be the latest version,,,root your phone,,,,,don't delete the kinguser apk you downloaded you'll need it for later,,,,now install supersu me from the play store and open and run it, it'll uninstall kinguser and replace the binaries for superuser, this is where its gonna become tricky,,,,,,download supersu and run which will ask for update of binaries also let it finish updating and uninstall the supersu me control,,,,,now open apps2sd and clear the davik cache and other caches without restarting,,,,then run system repair 2016, it'll show that you had a few errors because kinguser hates the fact that supersu me uninstalled it and left messed up configurations on your phone, then clear the davik cache again, now you have to use the same kinguser apk you get at the start of the process and reinstall it to your phone, or else you will be getting a boot loop issue......for some reason even though all the caches are cleared and the system has been checked for errors, the kinguser app installs itself as a system app, a dependency if you will, like a basic LG/Cricket app that if you uninstall will cause errors, so but reinstalling it we stop that problem, you can run it but don't need to activate the root option of kinguser......this will cause the kinguser permission errors to stop also from this point only you can restart your phone,,,,,now you're able to install flashfire and xposed frameworks, and even restart your phone without worry of boot looping since there isn't much support for the LG-H634 stylo model.........:angel:
hope this was helpful for you guys that was in need of replacing kinguser, and installing xposed framework, i've not tried anything further with the twrp install but keep a look out for the names "vegito6" "vegito69" ....and wish me luck on twrp

ok i'm not sure how you guys got bricked, but i just got bricked using flahfire to create backup, so don't use that app as of yet, but anyways working on the replacement now, gonna be trying to create a restore img or flashable zip for the cricket stylo.

Have you guys any luck with a recovery method? And think you for helping I'll do my best with what I have. Also idk if I mentioned it earlier but when I reboot lg symbol appears but (authentication failed #9) appears below it. It was roted via king root and didn't o anything but remove some bloatware. I'm pretty sure that you ended up with brick because you didn't unlock your bootloader before backing up. My girlfriend did the same thing. As of right now I'm trying to figure out If there's a way past the bootloader or at least a way to do everything the bootloader can do without unlocking it.
Original Firmware
Can we not flash the original firmware via download mode ? I had this phone (bought from a friend, cricket sim unlocked, phone bricked while i was playing around. )
I'm not super familiar with LG phones, but i keep hearing about a KDZ , is that some kind of official image format ?
If we can flash it for stock via download mode, can someone direct me as to where I might find instructions for our variant of the device, please ?
I was able to replace Kingroot with SuperSu using a guide I found on a website called w0lfdroid, I think. I just Google 'replace Kingroot with SuperSu and it was the second one down (I'm a new user so I can't post the link). I think it worked pretty well, but I'm still not able to flash TWRP or start the process to get xposed. If I can't get it, I might unroot and try the process again with this method.
as anyone with brick try this http://lg-firmware-rom.com/downloads/lg-g-stylo-h634-stock-tot-firmware-v10g/ , they offer files for unbricking, $40 bucks
what do you guys think

works great, after flashing with LG Flash tools tot method just take out battery and wait 5sec, and put it back in and turn on, android logo will show and then it will boot normally, now i'm back to working on the supersu install methods to help people from bricking, wish me luck . also backing up boot img and then trying to use super sume to switch to still will cause boot looping to my knowledge. got 2 phones working on it, thanks to our annonomous LG guys for the unbricking

well not really, because if you go into the developer options there is the oem bootloader unlock you can select, not sure but i've got a cricket and boost version i've been working on it for a while, for some reason the phone doesn't like the way SU gets injected into the phone, and writes things to the wrong areas, i've been playing with some scripts for superuser installers from zip, hopefully i get a hit.

I noticed there is no solution posted. I recently bricked my phone and fixed it, thanks to you. I was simply wondering of there has been progress with getting the framework installed. Your help is much appreciated.
So I'm sort of confused... I cannot install xposed, and can't seem to find a work around. I am rooted but not with kingroot. I used a one click root tool on pc, and works great... Using su that is suggested using in this guide, so no trace of king root. Idk, could someone give me a quick run down on how to install xposed?
So no luck with installing xposed yet
So far I am rooted with Super SU and have exposed installer I'm just having a hard time getting the framework installed. I do not have custom recovery installed. Is there any way to flash the framework zip file with like flashify or another app like that?

Panic - plz help! applied the wrong ota file from adb by mistake, now bootloop

I applied the wrong ota file by mistake and now the phone is stuck in bootloop.
phone is unlocked and "fastboot flashing unlock" won't work as unlocking was disabled in developer options.
Factory reset didn't work. Further, getting the Google's device corrupted message during the bootloop.
Any solutions?

You can use adb sideload to install one of the new full OTA files with the stock recovery, I have instructions in my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
These full OTA zips don't require a certain preceding build number to be installed prior to installation.

Is it possible to downgrade to an older OTA? I received DP3, got a bootloop. Tried sideloading, wiping, nothing solved.
I´m trying to sideload DP2 but it gives me this error:
Cant install this package over newer build
E: error in /sideload/package.zip (Status 7)

No, as per the instructions in my guide you can only install a newer build. I wasn't aware that full OTA zips were even available for the Developer Previews.

Have already tried doing this...this also gets interrupted mid-way, with the command terminal showing - "connection reset by peer". these are the same OTA files available on the google developers website.
and for some reason, it worked this time around!!!

I don't know what you can do, sorry. I'm not sure why you wouldn't just unlock your bootloader and leave it unlocked, that alone would mean you could fix this issue in a matter of minutes. I know me saying this is of no use to you right now, but hopefully it'll impress on you (and anyone reading) the importance of having a fail-safe when things go sideways like this.

An update failing is the single most likely cause of a problem like this. The issue here isn't with the update itself, otherwise pretty much every other user taking the update would be experiencing the same thing. There could be any number of reasons for this update going badly for you.
If you had researched you would have known that you need to unlock the bootloader when you first get the device, before you commit too much data to it. Either that or just back up your personal data, unlock the bootloader and then copy your data back. Surely even that is a better option that being stuck in a situation like this where you essentially have a brick.
All you can do now is contact Google support, explain what has happened, and ship it off to them to have it fixed. You shouldn't have to pay if it genuinely wasn't your fault. And remember to unlock your bootloader when you get it back.

Root And Unlock Bootloader In marshmallow!

Anyone tried to unlock bootloader by the asus official app in marshmallow?
Or tried to flash the tethered recovery and then flashing supersu zip?
Just try old methods to root your phone. Turn on USB debug and run the script.
If you can unlock bootloader with asus official app, then current custom recoveries should be okay.

The one click unlock doesn't work. Neither does tethered custom recovery. Haven't tried the official unlock tool. Not sure about root because I have no need of it to try.
I don't need the bootloader unlock or a custom recovery. Just root to get rid of these apps that can't be removed. 6.0.1 is pretty bloated.

What apps do you want to remove that need root to do so? All the 3rd party stuff can be uninstalled without root, and nearly all the ASUS or Google stuff can be disabled.
There are some Google apps and most of the ASUS apps. They won't let you uninstall so the phone needs rooted. Plus Viper, Titanium, Adaway etc will not work without root.

They won't let you uninstall but you can disable most of them. There's no benefit to uninstalling system apps because the space cleared in the system partition is not useful anyway.

Well as I said before it's bloated. I prefer mine debloated and in addition to that you cannot use certain apps unless you have root.

BootLoop after installing twrp and SuperSU

Bit of background.
CID: BS_US001
MID: 2PS650000
Original verizon phone that i sent to sunshine for S-off and to unlock from Verizon. Ever since receiving it, almost a year ago, I've never been able to install a custom recovery I gave up on it for months and yesterday tried again. Finally managed to get TWRP. Then I tried to install SuperSU and bootloop. There's always been an issue getting OTAs. The OTA would download, install, and during boot, would give an error or go into bootloop. So, the plan was to finally get a recovery, root it, see about getting the latest OTA etc. Obviously that didn't work out. I feel like there's an issue with the boot sector and has always been. At this point, I just want to wipe and start over but I feel if I don't get this boot sector fixed the phone will never work properly. Any ideas? An RUU will update the OS and maybe fix the bootloop for now, but it won't deal with the OTA or issues with the boot sector that seem to be ever-present. Could use some advice.
I'm also a bit confused about something. This is originally a verizon phone but has been unlocked. When looking for RUUs from HTC should i be looking for the verizon versions or unlocked version?

You can't take OTAs as long as you have twrp installed or have a modified system partition, which you got after attempting to install SuperSU.
An RUU would restore all partition to a stock state, not just the OS. That's what I would do to get a clean slate, make a stock backup and then root it. Remember that the ruu will wipe your phone so backup your files. You won't find Verizon RUUs on HTC's website, but you can download them from the stock thread here.
Also make sure to fully read the instructions and FAQ posts in the twrp thread, and do the same in the root thread.
Edit: Re-read your post. Since yours is converted to U.S Unlocked, you indeed have to download the latest ruu from HTC's website. Forget about the Verizon ruu.

Sorry about the late reply. I was traveling. First off, thanks for your response. I guess my only remaining question then is what RUU do i go for? Unlocked developer? I'm just worried there might be a clash with my CID/MID. It's happened before on a previous phone. At this point, all i really want is to get stock back, make sure it's carrier unlocked, update to Oreo, and then, if I'm feeling lucky, root it, though I might just pass on that. So, would you say unlocked developer RUU is my best bet?
Again, thanks for your help.

If it's an originally verizon phone which was converted to US Unlocked, then use the latest ruu for unlocked on HTC's website. It won't cause you to lose your carrier-unlocked status. It will take you to latest Nougat version. From there, take the OTA update

Well, it worked. I'm currently on Oreo which is awesome. So first off, thank you very much. Not sure why it didn't work last year, but water/bridge etc.
This brings me to one more question. I want to get rid of some bloatware but would rather not do a full root. I've heard Magisk will give me the benefits of root without the security headaches that prevent things like Google Pay from working. You familiar with that? I also need 2 apps that require root. Never worked with Magisk but I have rooted a bunch of times and honestly, I kinda don't feel like doing it again, especially if I can maybe get the best of both worlds with Magisk. I just don't know enough about it. Figured maybe you might.

I use Magisk myself. I prefer it to flashing the classic supersu for root.
Install latest twrp (make sure its the latest twrp for the 10), then flash Magisk. Then install Magisk manager app. As simple as that.
Read the instructions here:

You rock man. Thanks for all the help.

X727 unlock bootloader

Why can't I use the unlock bootloader option in settings on my 727 with .021 firmware to initiate the root process and adding twrp? Basically all I want to do is remove leeco bloatware, and I am new at this. I have read darn near every post on this phone here and seen too many variations on how to do this. If I brick it I'll deal with it but at the moment I am happy with the stock rom. Maybe as confidence builds I'll try other things but if I can rid myself of the leeco apps I'll be happy. Guide me through this and I will be eternally grateful.

Read the forms on unlocking pro 3 727 their 2 or 3 threads on it.

From what I've gathered from hours of reading these forums I should be able to use the oem bootloader unlock in my settings, download twrp from Google play store and be on my merry way then. One of the forums went over oem unlock and they still had to use another process to unlock. Has that been resolved?

I appreciate the path to that post...looks like what I am after. What do I do with the unlock bootloader in my settings, lock or unlock?

It likely you will have to flash bootloader to get unlocked.
If zip fails you will need to do this to get unlocked.

Did you get it?
If not, I can send you extremely detailed step by step.
Be careful. Make sure that you root with Magisk and install a permanent TWRP recovery. After unlocking the bootloader, rooting and installing TWRP, itseasy to do anything that you want to your phone. The steps for unlocking the X727 bootloader is different and a little more tricky than other Leeco's.
If all you want to do is unbloat your eUI ROM, just use adb to uninstall apps... you don't even have to be rooted. https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...co-spyware-t3503389/post69712213#post69712213

If you mess up, just factory reset the ROM and start over.

By golly 'sk' this may be exactly what I am after. After reading the article within your links there appears to be a little debate but I can pick thru that pretty easily. The 'space' issue would be nice to have after debloating but if in partitions that I cannot use so be it. The ram issue and battery usage are my main concerns when it comes to benefits of debloating (not forgetting the useless ads and apps I will never use along with any other trash I may receive from bloatware that I am unaware of) I will give this process a try and if any questions arise do you mind if I come to you or do you recommend another fully educated in this process? Many, many thanks for this post!

Okay, but I made a thread for this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/help/adb-bloatware-removal-le-pro-3-x722-x720-t3680384
It appears in posted thread that "pm uninstall" is the only path to take in my phone also as the disable path errors out. Never saw if there was an easy way to get lots of com.'''''''.'''' 's in one pass or if each one has to be pm uninstalled individually?

You'll have to do it individually unless you can figure out how to mass insert a bunch of lines into cmd. Probably as a .bat file. Look around the Internet on how to compile one.
I have accomplished my task and am very thankful to sk and tson for their patience and willingness to help a person out. If all someone wants to do is debloat w/o root and their device will allow them follow sk's path...if want root follow tson's. Worked perfect with my leeco le pro 3 x727. Again thank you!
