Ever since I got my S7 Edge replacement from the Note 7, Google Voice is being troublesome. I can't get it to recognize my voice correctly, well sometimes. For example if I ask it to list "nearest restaurants near me" it will search for "Near Me" like if it didn't understand my first two words. Or other times It says "if you said something, I didn't understand you". I tried uninstalling and\or cleaning cache from Google apps, but doesn't fix the problem. Can this be a software problem or the phone Mic being defective?

Are you saying "Ok google, nearest restaurants near me" or "Ok google..." *Wait for prompt* "nearest restaurants near me"?
I don't know if the wait would help, I know that I wait until I hear it make the noise before I continue to say anything. Give that a shot and see if it helps.
You can test out your microphone but I don't see a need to if you use the phone to talk to others and they don't have any problem hearing you.
What launcher are you using? I use Google now myself and I don't need the pause but am just used to waiting in case it didn't hear me when I say the command.
Also try going into Settings -> Applications -> Default Applications -> Phone Assistance App and see if you have Google App as the chosen app. Not sure if that would help but it's worth a shot.
I am definitely waiting until it gives the tone and then speak right after. I just noticed that the delay is on the Google app and not when using voice typing on the Samsung keyboard which brings up Google Voices well.

I am having a similar Issue on my S7 Edge. The "Ok Google" prompt works just fine but then the mic cannot hear me at all. If I am on a Bluetooth device it works just fine and all other voice apps including the Google Assistant in Allo work fine. I have done a factory reset, I have disabled S-Voice and all other apps that use voice work just fine. I am at a loss at this point.

Make sure the Google App has permission to access your microphone. I would assume it does if the hotword detection works but still worth a shot.
I found a workaround that seems to work better on detection....
Have the phone at a distance and the top mic underneath your mouth level. Seems to give me less false positives this way, I have no idea why. Hope this helps.
What I did was uninstall the update for voice recognition and re download it. Helped immediately.

Sure, go into setting, then language and input. From there click on google voice typing then click offline recognition and u should be able to uninstall then reinstall the software for it. Hope that helps.

With all of the settings correctly configured and several Google voice training programmings later, I am only getting about a 25% detection rate when saying "Ok Google" - especially when the phone is off or on the lock screen.
Anybody else have this issue?
For me OK, Google and the S Voice stopped working after an hour and never worked since then.

Wow, really?
I'm very curious to see how others are fairing with this
Well, what is funny is that S Voice woke my phone a few times while I was playing games on my computer and once when I was watching a movie. I turned it off, something must be wrong with my voice pattern or something. I never intended to use it anyway - was just playing with it - so it's not a huge loss for me. I think I might have blocked too many apps or I need to reboot or something because my fingerprint sensor also does strange things.
I just discovered Nova Launcher is causing this problem. When using TouchWiz home it works perfectly.
Anybody know how to get in contact with Nova Launcher?
Dissable svoice then go into google search app info and clear info. Now when you go into google now voice settings you can set it up with google recognition. It won't work when the screen off buy at least it works the rest of the time.

I already have S Voice disabled, but I'm a little confused about what this would solve?
using hot boots causes this problem too. I had some problems with nova launcher but now it works just fine.
try to reboot and check you google now settings+ you can turn it on or off in nova's settings
I initially noticed this on my Galaxy s6 a few weeks ago after an update. Google Voice typing stopped pausing the music player if I used the voice option to dictate a text message. It used to stop the music and continue after I was finished. Now it'll play the music in the background and it's making it hard to dictate because it will also pick up on the lyrics from the song. At first I thought my S6 was just going crazy and a factory reset would probably fix it but I just got the S8 and I am facing the same issue. Any advice?
Thanks!
Hmm... mine pauses anytime it's listening to a voice command. Never tried to text with it though.
I bet that makes for some really interesting conversations.
It does stop the music if I use the "Ok Google " command to use the assistant but it doesn't do it if I'm using it to dictate a text message.
Just did a test.....it works fine in version 6.12.25.21 which is the one that comes pre-installed on the s8. however when you update to the latest version in the play store you get the problem. i've downgraded back to the older version for now. anyone else experiencing this issue?

I'm having the same problem. This is when you activate voice within the google keyboard right? What app did you downgrade?
Well, I use the Samsung keyboard but yes, it's when you activate the voice option on the keyboard. I did try it with the Google keyboard but was getting the same problem too. The app that I downgraded was "Google". Just go into the playstore, type Google, "uninstall" the app and it should bring you back down to the version that came pre-installed with the phone. And then uncheck auto-update in the right top corner of the app screen in the playstore. That should fix it for now. Let me know if it works!

I was able to uninstall updates for the google app and yea, I was able to fix the problem. Partially. It pauses the music now when voice is activated. But when I send the message, music will not resume. Does this happen to you?
Same problem with LG G5
I have had the same issue for the past couple of weeks. When using the Google Voice typing, all media apps are no longer paused (Spotify, RocketPlayer, Podcast Addict, etc) thus Google Voice is transcribing the words coming from these media apps. I uninstalled Google App today, but then Google Voice to Text worked very poorly. Does anyone have any thoughts on solutions or workarounds? Thanks.
try installing a previous version of the google app. The galaxy s8 comes with this build standard and it works fine.
Did you guys ever find a fix for this? its driving me nuts. Im on OnePlus 3 but yeah its a new issue for me started after nougat... It seems like lots of people have the issue but are just living with it. While driving it really sucks. Used to be so easy to voice reply and pod-kicker would resume play back. Now I gotta pause first then reply voice text then hit play again ...its MADDENING. Looking for a fix. The downgrade worked for me for a short while then it just started up again. I didn't auto update google app. Tried clearing every data cache...uninstall reinstall...even different keyboards!!! same issue. Thanks guys!!!! hope we can figure it out.
The downgrade still works for me.
I have the same problem in my Oneplus 3T, I can not send voice messages while driving.
Same issue on my LG G6, BUT, for me it only does it when I'm connected to Bluetooth in my car - which is of course when you need voice recognition most. I have to manually pause the music to use it. Driving me nuts. I'm surprised they haven't released an update to fix it. I guess not a lot of people on these latest devices using voice recognition.
The downgrade still works for me but it appears it also has been fixed for me with the newest Google app update 7.3.26.21. I tried it with spotify and google music with and without bluetooth connection and it works. Stops the music then automatically resumes. Let me know if it works for you guys too.
Has anyone managed to get Assistant to work? I'm in the UK. I read on one of the OnePlus community forums that you need to change device language to English (USA), which I've done. Still no Assisstant. Anyone managed to get it to work/have any ideas?
It is only google now, not google assistant
I needed to clear all data after changing language to English (USA). But I've got it working now.

I got Google Assistant working by following the instructions from the YouTube video in this thread's post #4. All was fine for a while and then GA no longer worked sometime after I applied one of the OTA's. I can't say that was the cause but the timing was coincidental. GA seemed to react but not fully engage. I tried a lot of things including re-training the "OK Google" but nothing worked.
Finally I followed the part of post #4's cache clearing of Google and Google services apps cache (remember there is more than one cache) and then went through the Google Assistant set up as if it had never been working. That fixed my issues and has been working ever since. I'll see if the same problems arise after the next OTA. So I'd trying clearing the cache of those two apps EXACTLY as shown in the video.
Edit: I've applied OTA for v4.5.5 and have not had any Google Assistant issue

You have to clear the data cache for play services as well.
For those that got Google Assistant working are you having any issues such as those described below?
Trusted voice which enables Google Assistant from the lock screen does not work despite the proper settings in place
Creating a Google Assistant shortcut not works
IFTTT doesn't seem to work as advertised (I'm still working on this one)
I've had no end of small issues trying to customize Google Assistant but the main built in functions (e.g. weather, search, Spotify commands, open app) work perfectly.
Just curious about other people's experience. It leaves me feeling Google Assistant is just a beta program/work-in-progress on a phone or a tease to get you to buy a Google Home despite always having a much more capable device in the palm of your hand (your phone). I don't want an ugly Google Home "air freshener" when I already have an Android SD835/8GB phone.

Google Assistant works with the screen off as long as the OP5 is NOT locked. Working while locked is supposed to work only when Trusted Voice is turned on. Unfortunately I have turned on trusted voice but Google Assistant will not initiate (work) when the OP5 is locked.
OK Google has a different interactive screen than Google Assistant. The OP5 OOS comes with OK Google but you need to manually activate Google Assistant before experiencing its advanced AI features. You would also see new Google Assistant specific settings at the top of the Google app->Settings->Google Assistant->(Settings, What can you do?).
One of the early posts in this thread has the link to manually activate Google Assistant.
Yeah, I have Google Assistant but I am pretty let down by the fact it doesn't work with the screen off and locked. I have heard it's a license that has to be paid to googs
Mine worked with no fuss. What doesn't work is the trusted voice and waking the phone up when the screen is off. That one I can't figure out

I've found a hacky workaround for this issue by using a combination of apps. First off I only use this method when I'm connected to the charger which is no different than the Trusted Voice limitations. Second my lock screen is only enabled when I'm not on a charger.
Use the Caffeine app to block the automatic lock screen. Check settings "Autoactive on USB", "Autoactive on USB type/AC charger", "Enable caffeine at boot".
Buy and install the app Screen Off (No Lock). I couldn't find a free app that turned off the screen but did not also lock it.
Then use the Google Assistant command "OK Google open screen off" to invoke turning the screen off but still having Google Assistant listening for my next command. I also use Tasker and it's Voice Assist plugin connection to Google Assistant so added the "start Screen off" as the last task in my Voice Assist profiles.

For the most part Google Assistant works for me but important features either lack reliability or don't work at all.
Google Assistant macros don't work at all despite built in GA commands working (e.g. play on Spotify)
I can't seem to make a IFTTT connection work
The connection between GA and Tasker's VoiceAssist is unreliable. Too often GA intercepts a regular Tasker Event phrase and displays a google search screen but the Tasker event for the phrase does not trigger. This despite the Tasker VoiceAssist toast displaying the correct event phrase. I'll try it a second time and this time it'll work despite GA recognizing the exact same phrase (not a variation).
I've been able to create some cool home theater (Harmony Hub) automation profiles but the unreliability has me wondering if I'm wasting my time. I really like the whole Google Assistant and the Tasker extension but am not prepared to continue developing things unless I can increase the overall stability.
It may just be my OP5 which is running OOS 4.5.5, rooted with SuperSU with Viper4Android installed. Other than that I've not altered the stock OOS experience. I've not even removed any bloat ware.
Does anyone have the Google Assistant macros and/or IFTTT working on their OnePlus 5?
I've previously posted that Google Assistant's macros didn't work for me but I received an update to the Google app v7.7.14.21.arm64 (Beta) and Google Assistant's macros are suddenly working. Even macros I'd previous entered but had never worked. I also added new ones and they also worked.
What stopped working was Tasker receiving the OK Google spoken commands, (no VoiceAssist toasts). I need to explore further as the newly functioning macros may be a far better way to integrate with Tasker. I'll likely retry the recommended Google Assistant/IFTTT/Tasker integration which also didn't work prior to this latest update.
It's working perfectly
Just did as it was said on the video. Everything works perfectly, including the "OK Google" detection while the screen is off. No problems whatsoever.
To Note: Even i changed the language back to English(UK) after all was setup, and works like a charm. :good:
Hello all!
I am facing a very annoying issue:
For questions like "what's the weather?" Google Assistant/Google Now only shows the result without saying anything.
Similar behaviour when asking "drive me home": navigation starts without any announcement.
On the contrary, Google Assistant speaks/answers normally to phrases such as: "tell me a joke".
I've already tried any solution found on the Internet with no luck (check output, clear data, uninstall google search, etc.).
I'm pretty sure it's not account-related because I'm using the same account on a Nexus 5 without any problem.
anyone in a similar situation ?
Cheers,
Tony

Happy to hear I'm not alone ... so to speak..
I guess, we must wait for a bugfix, then...

Try to delet voice model in google setting ..voice ...and then again retrain voice model ....that solved problem for me
I'm also having this issue. I've tried installing text to speech data, changed speech output to on... And factory reset. Nothing works. If anyone found a solution, do update here. Not pleased with the phone ?

Same here. Thanks for confirming that i am not the only one.
Might be the wrong thread to point it out but "ok google" by voice still gets triggered hence the detection is turned off. Is that normal? Can anyone else confirm this? I personally hate the feature, imagine your mic is always on just to catch those two words all the time. It's not the tin foil hat thing but the resource it uses for this feature ...
Cant reproduce it. I have it disabled on both on Google options and nova launcher

LOL. This is called cheating!
Also I confirm the problem.i tried everything.
Me too
I have that problem too on my OnePlus 3T running AOSPA.
Before I had the same issue when I was running FreedomOS.
I'm pretty sure that the logcat in the following screenshots shows the reason for it.
Unfortunately I can't find anything useful about it using Google...
I also think that this problem occurs only/mostly on Chinese phones, because most of the rare Google results refer to Chinese phones.
Rooted, installed Nova, disabled all Amazon bloatware. Kindle working great, only issue is Google Search will not respond with a voice. I'll ask what the weather is and it simply displays the result without telling me with the voice "It's 100 degrees and sunny." I'll ask using the mic button/Voice Search "who won the allstar game", no sound, no voice, just displays the answer. Have the latest google installed, playstore working fine, framework, etc. Got everything updated.

It's a bug in the Google app. I had the same issue with past updates. Whatever that last update did they broke the sound again.

I figured it out. Turn on Nova in accessibility options. Then say ok google.
I followed your directions and OK Google now works. I also hear the beep, but it still will not respond through a voice telling me what the weather is, or who won the ballgame. It just displays the information on the search app. Again no voice telling me if it's going to rain, or who won last night's game, Etc. I greatly appreciate you looking into this. So do you think it's still a glitch? I really like to hear the voice telling me stuff, I'm too lazy to read the info, LOL.

Tap Google app > three lines bottom right > settings > voice. Make sure speech output is on. Also make sure you have offline speech downloaded. From there tap settings under assistant at the top > tablet and make sure thats all set.
Speech output is on, offline speech is downloaded in US English, I turned on Nova and accessibility settings, and it definitely turns on and beeps when I say OK Google but I still do not get a voice response when I ask any question. The Google app isn't your default Assist app. I'm getting that are on the Google Voice match settings. I have already deleted Alexa completely from the phone. Using ES File Explorer Pro, with root. I have also enabled Google through ADB and disabled Alexa through ADB.

You need to follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/guide-enable-google-assistant-ok-google-t3740145
You basically need to download settings database editor and make the edits to secure settings. Make sure to grant settings database editor the proper permissions.
Thanks Dragonfire, started with a brand new Kindle from scratch. I accidentally bricked my old one. Long story short I started with a new Kindle HD 10, rooted, installed all the Google apps, followed all of the directions from the guide... I still do not get speech output, the Google voice does not give me the answer that I asked for. Only displays the answer. Maybe it is a glitch as you originally suggested. I disabled Alexa as the guide says, and I was able to do the voice match and everything. Google does not speak the answers. I only get the famous Google beep. And that's it. The sweet lady Google Voice stays silent.

Sorry I can't help more. I've not had this issue aside from the sound issue i had mentioned earlier, which was fixed by activating nova in accessibility.
