I've used my new s7 edge for about 1 month and I noticed this persisting issue.
During phone calls, I hear an annoying crackling noise. If I turn to the speaker this sounds stops so it only comes from the phone ear speaker. I remember this same issue back in the s4 days which was a speaker hardware problem and people were having their speaker replaced.
Any ideas anyone?
I have The same problem
Me too. But when i put vol down about 80% this annoying sound disappears. it think is a HW problem, propably on full vol, speaker is vibrating. Other day I have the same situation on S4.
Hello,
new s7 edge exynos with the same problem here.
I have the same distortion crackling at maximum volume lvl in every call.
Disappears at lower lvls.
I tried the Low Frq test *#0*#, both 100Hz and 200Hz having this issue,
At 300Hz sounds better with minimun crackling.
Did anyone find any solution to this?
Should I send it for replace or something and try another, or it is waste of time ?
Thanks
It is a nougat issue. Hopefully be fixed soon

I saw many posts in the web having the same issue before nougat update, so maybe it's hardware related ?
Same issue here on my 930L
tested another s7 edge exynos, same issue.
AOA all frnds
same issue facing in my SM-G930L when i installed custom rom destortion feel only voice calls mobile to mobile and on landline its super clear same when stock rom installed sound during calls super clear again....
i tried more thn 3 4 custom roms of nougat all have same issue please resolve if some one cam coz s7 super stock rom is superb
If any of you have ever had your front glass replaced, I ran into this issue as well. I took it back to the company that replaced the glass and they replaced the ear speaker. Now everything sounds great at any volume. The explanation I was given was that in order to replace the glass, they have to heat the phone to soften the adhesive. Sometimes, the heat can damage the speaker coil wiring or short it out.
May not fix EVERYONE, but this is simply MY story.
Thanks!
Solution for cracking ear speaker
Hello Guys,
I had the same issue on my Note 8 and solved it simply by just placing my mouth on the ear speaker and blow and suck (light blow) repeatedly.
Cheers.

Hi guys.
I have a little audio problem with my Himalaya/i-mate/XDA II/MDA II/Qtek 2020 or whatever you like to call it.
The internal speaker seems to have a contact with something metallic or hard plastic. At the max earpiece volume, when calling, the ringing tone is distorted. When lowering the volume, it does not do this. It seems that, when the plastic membrane is moving, to reproduces the loud sound, it touches something hard and it distorts the sound. Does anyone have experienced this? I want to try to fix this. I paid hard won money for this marvellous device, and I do not want my experience to be ruined by bad audio.
Thanks for the help guys!
Not sure if its the same thing but when i played any sound it crakled a little. Did not bother me until the camera sound went on and off every 1 second. Did a hard reset and seemed ok until it happened again so i did another hardware reset went through all the programs i had instaled until it happened again. So i reset a third time without instaling that program(cant remember the name of it) but it works ok now.
I know what you mean Patrick..and if you hold your thumb over the earpiece it sounds a bit better, though of course muffled.
This is something that does bother me as I sometimes use the loudspeaker call option. Other phones don't have this problem in loudspeaker and it surprises me the II does this, as apart from a slightly rattly volume adjuster the build of my II is significantly better than the XDAI.
Just one of those things we have to put up with in order to have such an otherwise great piece of kit, though I'm equally surprised the manufacturers didn't notice it!
Anthony
Thanks a lot !
Yeah, your description and the thumb thing is exactly what I mean. I wonder if it's the speaker membrane itself or a contact with something? Maybe it could be fixed?
Thanks a lot guys!
It may be a warranty claim, you need full volume when using the speakerphone, get in touch with the service centre.
I have the same exact problem... The sound distorts if you have it set too loud.
I guess it's just the el cheapo speaker or poor design.
Hi guys, i have the same problem and its bugging me alot, any sugesstion or solution???? is it a hardware problem or did we install some software that case this? my XDAII still has warranty do you sugest me to go for service center or just live with this problem.
Thanks
Well Iam not saying its a good thing but Iam happy to see Iam not the only one experiencing this problem with the speaker although I dont own XDA II but XDA IIi or Qtek2020i whatever way you wanna call it. I also wondered if it is a harware problem couldn't we replace the speaker with a better quality one? In my case this jitter mettalic sound does not happen only in speaker mode but also in normal mode as long as the volume is set close to max or max.
My Qtek2020i has the metallic sound only when it's a large amount of humidity and very hot outside.
It seems that the speaker suffer a lot from humidity, it also happen when i keep it in my jeans pocket and i prespire a lot. After half an hour when it dries out, everything is ok.
I have a bit of curios problem with my TD2. During a phone call i get a sound distortion / vibration from the earpiece. It makes no difference if i change the volume level. Playing music or using the speaker phone does not cause the problem. So i'm not sure if it's a software or hardware problem? Has anyone else found this problem? or have any clues for me.
Thanks in advance
Smog
It isn't related to the "vibrate on connect" feature is it?
No i have that disabled. It sounds like when a music speaker has a damaged cone and vibrates / distorts or there is too much bass?
The distortion in my earpice goes away at 80% volume. Is very annoying. It distortes on bass (low frequency) very much on 100% volume. The D2 speaker is very crappy. I wonder if there is a solution to this (software bass reduction of the incoming calls).
I agree the earpiece is utterly crap, the distortion goes at 50% on my TD2! Have spent sometime looking if there is anysoftware solution but to no avail!! I'm debating weather to return it under waranty as a faulty phone and see where i get.
any solves on this issue?
Mine too have the same problem, but i was told by others owners that this situation is not normal.
They say it´s a faulty device.
Result!! My touch screen went faulty so had to send the phone back in for warranty repair. I mentioned that the ear piece may also be faulty and requested them to take a look. Phone returned with new screen, new housing & i must assume a new ear piece. All distortion has disappeared even at 100% volume!!!
Maybe it's not the thread to mention it in (apologies to all those with problems) but when it works properly the TD2 has the best sounding earpiece of any phone I've had, including two other HTC ones. It actually has bass!
The distortion described sounds like the moving part is partially rubbing against the fixed part. In a proper speaker this can be caused by dirt or dust trapped between magnet and coil, or distortion of the coil through overload or temperature changes. I would send the phone for service 'cos it sadly won't get better of its own accord.
Hi, I have a week old defy+. Yesterday I noticed that when i am using the phone between shoulders and my head(while working on the computer or carrying my child etc..) the sound from ear piece is getting distorted. This can *sometimes* be reproduced by putting slight pressure on parts of the touch screen roundabout the entire screen area next to volume botton. The distortion goes off if I take the phone in hand during the same call. I could not find a similar problem on the internet, although the older defy's had a lot of problems with the ear piece. Motorolla support asked me to reset to factory default, which I did, but the problem still remains as it seems to be hardware related.
Has someone faced similar issues? Will motorolla warranty cover this issue as the problem is only when there's atleast a slight pressure between shoulders and cheek. Any and all suggestions are welcome, thanks in advance. Apart from this issues, I really liked the phone.
I never faced it..! I would suggest go visit a service center
Got the replacement for the phone. The new one does not have the ear piece issue.
This phone is nice. Motorola could have as well used a far betTer earpiece . Thank you.

This is not my phone but a friend's phone that I am trying to fix. She dropped it 2 stories and the phone, due to its sturdiness, looks absolutely fine.
In any case, there is nothing wrong with the phone:
External speakers (used for playing music, watching Youtube, etc) works
When calling people, they hear me just fine [works]
However, the in-call speaker doesn't work (when I call people, they can hear me but I cannot hear them)
Here's what I have tried so far:
-putting the call on speaker works but that's probably because it switches to use the external speaker
-I reflashed her ROM but the problem still persists
-if I use headphones, I can hear the caller speaking
Any other things I can try?
P.S. I am amazed at the sturdiness of this phone!
Two stories, did you say? She's lucky.
You gotta open it up- see if the contacts of the handset speaker are in the right place. I don't think it would have gone bad.
While you are at it, make sure the antenna contacts are proper, a known problem after dropping this phone is low or erratic signal after a fall.

2ft or 2meters right?
but 2 stories high & it's still OK?
man what casing was she using?
anyways there could be a dislodge wire/ connector from that fall & luckily it's just that:fingers-crossed:

Hd2 have two speakers, front called ear speaker and back speaker which is activated on notification, playing media files and putting call on handsfree mode.
You need to check Ear speaker.
There are few movies on youtube how to open hd2, search for disassembling hd2.
Check connector on ear speaker.
If doesn't help then buy new one there on internet from 5 to 10$ if you are from States you can have free shipping.
Changing ear speaker isnt complicated just be sure to check few videos before doing it.
I have same issue atm, ill need to do this also.

Sorry for the late reply. Based on the responses I got, it seems the only way to fix this is to open it up. Thanks for your help

Hi,
I have the exact same problem you have regarding the non-working ear speaker. I inherited my phone so I don't know if it's been dropped or not, or if the non-working ear speaker is due to software and/or ROM issues. The previous owner had winmo and he said it worked fine.
I suspect it's due to software since sometimes the ear (front) speaker does work, but usually not. I've tried a bunch of different ICS ROMS (CM9, AOKP, PA, currently on Slim-ICS 4.2) and the problem remains which would seem to point to hardware failure, no? What confuses me is the fact that it sometimes (rarely) works. Most of the time I have to enable speakerphone to hear the other side of calls.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
I have enclosed a clip from logcat in case anyone sees anything weird that I'm not seeing.

Same thing for me. Im 99% sure is hardware failure, ear speaker died or it is disconnected from slot.
Why im thinking this, when gently tap back of cover where speaker is i can here like its disconnected from slot. Sometimes when i tap while in call sound come back for sec.
Next week ill dissemble my hd2 to check if its disconnected or ear speaker died.
Anyway you can buy ear speaker on net for few bucks, they are mostly for u.s. model but think its same as for eu version

Looks like this may be more common than initially thought.
Any one know of any app or diagnostic software in Android that can be used to test the rear and ear (front) speakers to determine whether this is a hardware or software issue?
I'd like to make sure this is a hardware issue before opening the phone up.
Hey guys,

Nothing surprises me anymore regarding this phone.
I think that they screwed everything with the "mighty" waterproofing.... microphones, speaker, earspeaker etc everything is too f***g low and muffled
Really huge disappointments gathering more and more each day.....

Yup I think it definitely has to do with the waterproofing.... We do have three S7 edges in our house and mine shows lower when recording voice memos than the other 2
Many people have issues with microphone after latest update to Android 6.0.1 - in the past, similar problems were solved by turning off noise reduction feature, but with this update the option has been removed from settings and the result is poor quality of voice.
With latest Android 5 it worked without problems (on waterproof Xperia Z2).
My microphones works great, but the loudspeaker is much quieter than on my Note 4. Anyone else with this issue?
I compared my S7 (935FD, stock, rooted, Xposed) side by side to my S6 (stock, no root), playing the same youtube video at the same time, both at maximum speaker volume...
The S6 is slightly louder than the S7 - it is noticeable but not significant.
