Nothing surprises me anymore regarding this phone.
I think that they screwed everything with the "mighty" waterproofing.... microphones, speaker, earspeaker etc everything is too f***g low and muffled
Really huge disappointments gathering more and more each day.....

Yup I think it definitely has to do with the waterproofing.... We do have three S7 edges in our house and mine shows lower when recording voice memos than the other 2
Many people have issues with microphone after latest update to Android 6.0.1 - in the past, similar problems were solved by turning off noise reduction feature, but with this update the option has been removed from settings and the result is poor quality of voice.
With latest Android 5 it worked without problems (on waterproof Xperia Z2).
My microphones works great, but the loudspeaker is much quieter than on my Note 4. Anyone else with this issue?
I compared my S7 (935FD, stock, rooted, Xposed) side by side to my S6 (stock, no root), playing the same youtube video at the same time, both at maximum speaker volume...
The S6 is slightly louder than the S7 - it is noticeable but not significant.

Hi,
Just got my new xperia arc and whilst it is a great phone I've found that there is a loud hissing noise (like rain) when recording video. I've uploaded a video to show the problem. Ah, just tried to post the link but I've been told I can't as I'm newly registered...
Others I've messaged have the same problem but there doesn't seem to be a fix. Are there any suggestions as this really kills the HD video function for me...
yeah I have the same problem, I think it got slightly improved with the updates.
try updating.
The phone is upated to the latest firmware t-mobile have to offer. I guess the only other option is to debrand and install generic firmware?
my phone is debranded, I tried uk, Global and Hong Kong, they're all the same.
So why isn't this problem more widely reported then? It pretty much kills the video recording capabilities.
I've experienced that too.
Try not to obstruct the first microphone with your right hand, the first microphone is at the bottom of the phone. Check if that solves the issue
It doesn't solve the issue, my fingers are nowhere near either mic hole.
I've also tried some test videos where I cover up each of the mic holes with my finger. I've tried covering up mic 1, mic 2 and then both. Now, strangely, when covering up the mic my voice does get a little muffled but the crackling/hiss does not change.
This indicates to me that this is a possible software issue i.e. compression of the audio or the way it is recorded, rather than the mics physically picking up the hissing.
If the mics were picking up this hissing (i.e. too sensitive etc) then covering up the mic hole would give some change, which it doesn't.
Hello all. I got my S5 two weeks ago and I love it. But one thing bugs me a bit about it though... I have read many comments on the Internet from owners of this phone that the microphone & speaker sounds muffled while the speaker on my phone sounds crystal clear (the same as on my HTC One M7) together with the microphone... I did a test call & the person told me that they hear no difference between this phone & my HTC... Is this good, or should I be worried about a popped membrane on both parts?
P.S. This phone was bought used
You're worried there is a fault because your phone is working normally with clear audio?
Don't you think the guys who are complaining of muffled audio are the ones with the fault?

I actually thought, that the muffled audio is correct because of the waterproof membranes to protect them... But good to know that it's the other way around [emoji4]
No muffled audio on mine, there is a clarity setting you can play with in call settings, with Adapt sound, Soft Sound, Clear Sound, and Off
Open the dialer and hit the 3 dots menu > settings
Mine can be used for everything but making calls. What ROM you running that works so well?
I'm using several devices, (mostly Note 3 and iPhone), and now being a proud owner of the S7 Edge there's just one thing annoying me. If I record a video, or a spoken note (stock voicerecorder), and I play this back, in my opinion the volume is too low. I tested this with the three devices next to each other, put the volume on all three devices at the same level (from hearing point of view), and recorded a video and a audio note. If I play this back, the playback volume of the S7 Edge is way lower than the volume on the other two devices, (and as mentioned, the hearing volume on all three devices is on the same level). Does anyone recognize this issue with their S7 Edge?
There must be some setting available in the "Setting Option" from main menu. Did you check it?

The Settings are more for the playback volumes, and that's fine. If I play a youtube video, game, or a video I recorded with my previous phone, or just an mp3, the sound is fine. The Volume levels have almost the same output on the S7 Edge as my Note 3. It's just when I record with this device, and than play that back.
If I open the voicerecorder on the S7 Edge, and talk directly (very close) to the Mic, you see the 'spikes' on the equalizer just reaching half of the maximum. From this close I would expect this to give a maximal spike. And of course, also this sounds very poor, much less compared to the other devices.
Can you find such a setting, for the Mic only?

I returned my last phone cause the microphone was so low.... We have 3 in the house hold 1 gold one that records super loud and a black and silver that are almost identical...... The way I test it is to set them in front of a tv/radio and use the voice recorder... The gold one picks up alot of sound but the other two not as much.... I'm guessing their are a couple faulty devices but could also be a water proofing issue.....
Edit* also noticed voice recorder volume might record higher then video volume... Or the way I hold the phone... Does the microphone record from the top hole or the bottom hole?or both..... How is call volume? Can people hear you loud enough?

According to the user manual the voice recorder app will record using both top and bottom mics when it is set to interview mode- see following extract
Changing the recording mode
On the Apps screen, tap Samsung → Voice Recorder.
Select a mode from the top of the voice recorder screen.
• STANDARD: This is the normal recording mode.
• INTERVIEW: The microphone is sensitive to sounds from two directions. In this mode,
both the top and the bottom of the device pick up equal amounts of sound.
I know and expected the volume to be somewhat lower than my note 1 and note 3 which I just upgraded from 2 days ago, due to the phone being waterproof they must have something over the speaker to avoid damage from water but mine seems to be pretty decent. I have the silver SD820 from att. I would think the mic has some kind of water protection also, maybe there's some issue with some of them.

That is the strangest part. I made some testcalls with my Note 3 and the S7 Edge, and according to my wife (who I callled ), the volume somewhat the same from both devices. I did not speak loud, just normal.
The problem occurs with stock Voicerecorder and when I record a video with the stock Camera app. Here I hear a big difference on my Note 3 + iPhone, which have the almost the same output volume, (and off course used 'their' stock apps) and the S7 Edge which clearly has a much lower volume output.
I also tested the Interview mode, and the output volume is even lower...
Maybe it's time to go to Samsung support!

According to Samsung Support it's normal that the S7 Edge has a lower volume since it's made waterproof. So all the S7's must have this. I can imagine that there is a little loss, but in my case it's a lot of lower compared with my other devices. The only advice was to use a 3rd party app to control the microphone volume.
Any advices?
I also have call volume problem too. My girlfriend always told me, she can't hear enough. Very low call volume compare with Note2 (my old smartphone).
Hi.
Anyone else noticing that the external speaker for S7 Edge giving out a slight robotic to certain voices?
I notice this while watching series on it, or youtube videos.
Already attempted to restart the phone in safe mode, but still the same.
I got the equalizer on standard. No other enabled options for the sound effects.
Since I got my device a few days ago, I might return it as this is really strange. My Note 3 didn't do anything like this.
Anyone at all?
i know exactly what you mean, i've noticed it too
it sounds like someone put an audio effect on it
as far as my knowledge goes, that's normal though, not hard to get used to honestly
Pitty that a phone of such price and being a flagship having such a "failed" external speaker.
I've used my new s7 edge for about 1 month and I noticed this persisting issue.
During phone calls, I hear an annoying crackling noise. If I turn to the speaker this sounds stops so it only comes from the phone ear speaker. I remember this same issue back in the s4 days which was a speaker hardware problem and people were having their speaker replaced.
Any ideas anyone?
I have The same problem
Me too. But when i put vol down about 80% this annoying sound disappears. it think is a HW problem, propably on full vol, speaker is vibrating. Other day I have the same situation on S4.
Hello,
new s7 edge exynos with the same problem here.
I have the same distortion crackling at maximum volume lvl in every call.
Disappears at lower lvls.
I tried the Low Frq test *#0*#, both 100Hz and 200Hz having this issue,
At 300Hz sounds better with minimun crackling.
Did anyone find any solution to this?
Should I send it for replace or something and try another, or it is waste of time ?
Thanks
It is a nougat issue. Hopefully be fixed soon

I saw many posts in the web having the same issue before nougat update, so maybe it's hardware related ?
Same issue here on my 930L
tested another s7 edge exynos, same issue.
AOA all frnds
same issue facing in my SM-G930L when i installed custom rom destortion feel only voice calls mobile to mobile and on landline its super clear same when stock rom installed sound during calls super clear again....
i tried more thn 3 4 custom roms of nougat all have same issue please resolve if some one cam coz s7 super stock rom is superb
If any of you have ever had your front glass replaced, I ran into this issue as well. I took it back to the company that replaced the glass and they replaced the ear speaker. Now everything sounds great at any volume. The explanation I was given was that in order to replace the glass, they have to heat the phone to soften the adhesive. Sometimes, the heat can damage the speaker coil wiring or short it out.
May not fix EVERYONE, but this is simply MY story.
Thanks!
Solution for cracking ear speaker
Hello Guys,
I had the same issue on my Note 8 and solved it simply by just placing my mouth on the ear speaker and blow and suck (light blow) repeatedly.
Cheers.
