You must have spent a lot of time setting up this little tutorial. Nice work. The mouse following the dotted lines could be a little faster but good work. I hope the message gets through to most people.
Note: to all who use search and still find it difficult to find what you are looking for. Remember to try using a variety / combination of cue words related to what you are looking for as sometimes your first search does not bring you directly to what you are looking for. You may have to search using different words, you may have to examine several different threads that are brought up in the (results) in order to find what you are looking for. Example
if you are having WIFI connectivity problems you can search "WIFI" or "Touch WIFI" or "WIFI Problems" or "WIFI Connectivity" or "WIFI on Diamond" etc... Don't give up searching just because your first seach did not get you your answers. Chances are the answers are around somewhere. I have not yet had to start a single thread asking for help or for answers. Persistance does pay off and a lot of answers are already out there.
Yeah it's over 100 frames, I want to fix it up a bit, but I though I'd post it first to see if it was even worth it.
Oh man, you just saved me time because I was thinking about posting a topic asking for help to find the search button. Thanks a zillion!

let the Questions and Answers section be flooded as much as people want.. as long as this section is clear.

We've got a lot of new users appear on here lately, it looks like in search of updated roms for the x1.
PLEASE IF YOU ARE NEW TO THIS THEN DO NOT FLASH A ROM
without
A) reading
B) reading some more
C) reading even more!
All the roms should come through the SE Update Service, please use that as it is a simpler method and if something goes wrong, then you can go to SE to complain..
Please use the search if you have a problem, if you don't find what you want the first time, then search again, maybe try searching around the subject.
There's a very very good chance that the question has already been answered several times!
If you can't find the answer then flick through the older pages on the thread, if it's something to do with the operation of the X1 then there's a good chance it's in the oldest pages of the forum.
Experienced members get upset by people starting new threads with the same moans or questions because it really clogs up the great search system with all manner of wasted threads. If there's an existing thread than use that please! If the questions already been asked don't ask it again!
This forum is not a SE support forum, no-one (that will admit to it anyway) is from SE so if you have issues with them why not raise it with them?
If you want to know how you X1 does various stuff try one of the operators online guides.
If you flash a custom rom or another rom obtained from here, despite being warned not too. DO NOT go running off to MS or SE complaining that it's all gone wrong, they
A) won't likely listen
B)won't like us very much

Hmmm...a rather sweeping generalisation methinks...
I'm a noob here, I'll admit that. However, I'm a board Admin elsewhere in cyberspace so I know exactly where you're coming from. I've done my time reading, understanding, occasionally asking relevant questions in the relevant places, and trying to help out where I might have some answers.
Your advice is spot on, and anyone who is inexperienced should tread slowly and carefully. There is all the time in the world to learn how to get it right, but it takes very little time to totally stuff things up.

you read the first thread that the moderators try to get EVERY NEW USER to read, this was a gentle reminder to get people to do just that.
People are not here to act as customer service for people who are too lazy to use the search facility on this site.

Searching is quite time consuming but you have no idea what kind of information is in this treasure chest. U accidentally stumble on to some great stuff.

Yea that is true. I was searching PIE6 and i ran across about 13-14 threads of the same question. i was on like page 3 or 4 of the search before i got the right hit.
maybe xda-newbies.com should be registered as a none development and referance site? lol

which reminds me the pie8 files that sun_dream posted in his BA 6.5 thread work, when copied over on itjes 6.5 (it's still pie6 core I think. but a bit snappier).
How about a period of not being able to post when registering ?, a day or three would give new members with their questions a little time to cool down and search/read for the answers which will usually be found here somewhere.
Just an idea.

I actually think that's not a bad idea, was just suggesting it to a couple of other members. Only drawback I think is that it couldn't be restricted to one sub forum such as the x1 from my experiences with vbulletin..
So it would restrict some of the truly amazing first posts that have come from some of the great genii?? on this site..
Alternatively we could have another Sub-forum, in the X1, with for newbies to ask the same questions of each other (like a creche) and anyone found straying outside of that forum until they've learnt to search and read would get electrocuted.. or something..
you mean, something like asking a question about an advanced feature, if you have it right then you're allowed to the real forums?
Well to be honest, the only thing a noob should read are the stickies. I learned to flash, edit, modify, type, behave, proof read, error correction, ask nicely, say please thank you cookie i love you, by reading those stickies.
Actually I think it's a good idea to have a sub-forum for the newbies, and then bomb them with the 'READ THE F-WORD STICKIES OR DIE' *going too far here...

Seems like he hasn't even seen the ROM-DEV subforum front page with all those sticky posts full of DIY tutorials, clear explanations, links, "how to"s... never mind...

Well sure the sticky post are great, but this post could be done more helpful instead of saying something that is already stated all over the forum

But to search efficient you have to know what to search for, the keywords are important in a search engine. And when you're a newbie those terms might not be known to you. Or you might not understand a lot of them.

Lets face it. Most people that come here with questions like "how can I flash my ROM?" just didn't bother to look. And trust me, there's plenty.
The bothersome thing is not that people ask questions, that's normal in a developer environment. What does bother me, and most - if not all - others is that they ask questions they can answer themselves by putting just a wee bit of time into it. Instead, they had rather have other people spend time doing everything for them. I can see where this attitude comes from - it's easier, but you get my point.

Searching before posting is supposed to be a rule on here... Maybe the mods should come down a little harder on Android threads seeing how everyone's getting a little bit sick of them appearing each and every day... I still love this forum but I think it's falling victim to the HD2's success to a certain extent as you never used to see so many duplicate threads on the Trinity or Diamond forums (where people probably took the time to search more).
Thats exactly what I'm saying man. The threads just sit and collect replies and replies and die and then someone just posts another one. It takes up alot of threads that are really useful and I"m tired of having to go to sometimes 7 pages before I see all the important threads.
It's a little bit out of control and it's an outrage. Noobs don't listen to the mods on making pointless posts

the OP created this thread, mentioning in the first post that people don't search (which may very well be true).
given the first assumption, the OP is justifying the creation of the thread with the motive that "people looking for android will come to this thread". dude! how will they come to find this thread if they are incapable of searching in the first place?
a thread to attract those interested in android development for the HD2 already exists...it has been STICKIED in the ROM development section. a stickied thread about the topic doesn't seem to deter the noobs from asking about it...how can this new thread be any more successful at minimizing the clutter?

There's an Accessories Section, where you can post about screen protectors/docks/cables, etc for your Tab
Its important to remember, that the Development section is for developers only. You can make a comment on the threads that are posted by Devs, but unless you are a developer, you should NOT be posting threads in the development section, EVER.
Finally, there is a Themes and Apps Section, where you can find/post information about different applications or wallpapers/themes for your phone.
The reason I'm posting this is because I know what it's like to be a 'noob'.
Don't be insulted by that term.
Everyone was a noob once.
But by reading the threads(especially the stickies) and using the Search function effectively (Did you know you can narrow the search down to a single section in the forum?) you can help educate yourself, and avoid duplicate threads where the same info/question is posted more than once. Which increases the chances of the relevant information being more easily accessible to the people looking for it.

Don't get me wrong, I know this thread is a good idea, but I genuinely have trouble reading/understanding what k0sh says. Or why someone that thinks he's wasting his time should still appreciate it.

His english isn't so good because that's not his first language. Malaysian english is horrid, but it's not their fault, visit the place and you will understand.
He is trying to raise awareness of posting correctly in the right section, so I guess at least he has good intention. Although this has been done in the sticky and almost everywhere else.

Lol... I'd take offence too, if anyone would measure the standards of Malaysian English by k0sh's postings.... what with me being a true-blue Malaysian, born-and-bred. ;-)
True, thanks to the wonderful efforts of our government (I won't go into the corny joke of how oxymoronic our government intelligence is...) the standards may be declining, but it's nowhere near what would be termed "horrid", and sure, we'll have our versions of hillbillies and rednecks (referred affectionately, though politically incorrectly as "jakuns"...) who'd mangle the language to no end... but it'll be quite rare for an English-speaking person to not be able to hold a decent conversation with any Malaysian in the Queen's language here, except of course, you run into the people I've just alluded to... ;-)
Anyway, the idea and intent behind this thread is noble, and to be honest k0sh was just trying to help. @k0sh... you might wanna change your topic title though, as it's incredibly misleading. Maybe you're trying to have an eye-catching title, but it didn't work, so a change in the title might be warranted. Say, something more straightforward like: "Read this before you post...." or something to that effect, perhaps?

True, thanks to the wonderful efforts of our government (I won't go into the corny joke of how oxymoronic our government intelligence is...) the standards may be declining, but it's nowhere near what would be termed "horrid", and sure, we'll have our versions of hillbillies and rednecks (referred affectionately, though politically incorrectly as "jakuns"...) who'd mangle the language to no end... but it'll be quite rare for an English-speaking person to not be able to hold a decent conversation with any Malaysian in the Queen's language here, except of course, you run into the people I've just alluded to... ;-)
Anyway, the idea and intent behind this thread is noble, and to be honest k0sh was just trying to help. The fact that you brought up ios in a x10 is gonna tick people off. You really shouldnt have expected any other reaction. Look, if you like the looks of ios...then go download trips miui rom. Its pretty close. Dont know if you already tried it or not...but its worth a shot. Even cobrato has a miui rom to try. But with all the gingerbread news flying around these forums today then something ios related pops up.....dont expect people to take that very nicely.

im sure the people in the thread who commented on it didnt mean what they said in a bad way, i posted a comment in a thread a couple of days ago and got slighty flamed for it, but hey you know what that is life and the internet.
just remember that you posted your thread in the wrong section, which is what peevs everyone this forum (even me).

First, you are not going to banned for the thread you posted. It's obvious that your question was offtopic and imposible I think, but I don't wan't to get into that.
Second, you don't post this publicly since it's better that you PM a moderator about this. These kind of threads clutter the forums. I already received your PM.
