Admin... mods...
Quite a few people of being plain stupid and posting non-dev related question/topics in the dev forum... it's kinda becoming a a mess...
no I don't blame the admin or mods... i blame the ppl doing this stupid thing... HELLO!!! can't u guys see "Development forum" and understand that it's specific to dev stuff???
BTW, if you guys need help with getting ride of crap like this, I'm ready to help!!!
Posts like this are just as annoying..
nothing really you can do to help.
They should change that stickied thread to state, "please post any question threads in the general section." or something like that. What it says now really doesn't mean anything to me.
This is coming someone who was once guilty of this act. As a noob to that forum I thought, "hey a development section, i got a question about development, guess it goes here. "
Its quite easy to see all of them are making this mistake.
They really need to just change it so that completely new threads need to be approved (not posts).

I'm sure the mods would love that idea /s
IMO people shouldn't take offense to a topic being posted in the wrong section. If I have a request for an app section I don't know if that goes in development, themes & apps, or general.
I think the best solution is to create more categories. "Questions/problems" "mods/hacks" "accessories" and maybe one specific to devs where they get some type of posting approval on their profile allowing them to post in a development section.
The categories are far too general to know exactly where every post should go, in my opinion.

Still new to the android phones, but was once new to this forum. For someone who doesn't really know where they're supposed to post it's an easy mistake.
The mods take care of this, trust me. They write in every locked thread and moved thread why it was moved, etc. This is just annoying. To me, this looks more like you are asking to be a mod than anything. But I see your view.

Yeah, they do... but it's really annoying when someone posts a "how to flash" question in the dev forum... and no, I'm not asking for mod powers [in fact I don't want mod powers]... quite frankly I visit this site just once or twice a day... to busy with demos at work... I just want to know all the ways we can avoid this... anything to help the "super-mods" on this forum... yeah stickies are there... but some ppl just act dumb and don't even bother to read the stickies...

I may be new to this forum... (cuz I got my N1 just around that time... my first Android phone... and I never had any other phones for which this forum has threads.... but XDADev is a trusted, well known name...) I moderated MotorolaFans.com a couple of years ago, before I got too involved with office work, and I did have to deal with this crap there as well.
I guess ppl got the wrong impression from this thread (I think it's my fault, didn't word it correctly). I'm just looking for ways to make the mods' lives a little less frustrating... and to get crap outta the wrong forums ;-).
So basically, this thread was created as a way for you to not so subtly cry out that you want to be a mod. All this after only being on this forum for a few weeks. Gotcha.

Err... hello.... if u read my earlier posts... I said I DON'T want to be a mod... quite frankly, I don't have the time... and I'd land up doing a crappy job... I'm just saying, from personal experience, that a mods job isn't easy... and we, the users, need to contribute to keeping this forum clean...
Let me put this down properly...
1. I don't want to be a mod
2. I'm not doubting or complaining about the mods and the great work they do
3. There are only a few mods and thousands of users (that's some task)
4. We, the users, also need to help keeps things clean
So in short, what can I, as a USER, do to help improve this situation!!!
Take this how ever you want, but i think it's time to start using the search and stop spamming the same questions over and over again.
For example, look at the threads of all the leaked firmwares, they are full of crap. Same questions asked in every page over and over again in every firmware leak.
Pathetic.
Other example would be about flashing the firmware, c'mon SON, read the sticky posts already. No you didn't brick your phone, stop panicking.
Sorry to fill the forums with this rant, but JESUS, PLEASE.
Can only agree with you. Nothing else.
I agree completely. Getting tired of the "How do I flash this?" question. I mean for f**k sake. If you even consider flashing a device, then read the excellent sticky's made. They explain every single thing in detail.
Hear hear! The more I see this crap the more I think of the movie "Idiocracy" and think this **** might be happening now.
this thread is spam.... just saying. The people that cause the problems probably won't find this thread just like they cannot find the other ones.
I miss you MooseFist.

I agree my man...
Is normal, too many here are getting overly excited about the test firmwares.
Agreed, why can't people do some research for themselves?
clutter. can we get this deleted?
this topic should have been in the General subforum, along with all those other things mentioned above.
but yes, it's true, new people joining XDA forums are not using the search.
i don't have MOD power, else i'll help merging all the same related topics peoples keeps making over and over again.
This needs to be here.
Sure This need to be here.
Most Important Thread i ever seen in SGS forums
I dont know what mods r doing here in this forum. They just let people to fight each other instead of call it quit.

Shame
I think the search function should be improved.

I do not understand a post like this.
Firstly, anyone who is too lazy/thick/confused/unlucky to not find the info they need before posting is CERTAINLY NOT going to be reading this thread, so all it does is spread your anger on the forum, which is not helpful or pleasant.
Secondly, before anyone can complain about people who do not search, XDA must remove the 30 seconds per search limitation. I have often not found something I want after two or three searches, get tired of waiting for another 30 seconds and then post a question. Im sure this happens to a LOT of the people you are flaming.
Thirdly, I really dont like this culture of arrogant snobbery that a some experienced users/cooks show on xda, its a lot like high school bullying, where a group of people "in the know" put down those lazy/thick/confused/unlucky ones who are not intentionally TRYING to be annoying, they are just lazy/thick/confused/unlucky... so collectively being pissed with them is really for your gratification, not for the good of xda.
Lastly, I'd like xda to also make an OP's rule that the second or third post in a thread is a summary of all the gotchas, tips, warnings, findings... all the stuff that you would never see if you were faced with a 2000 page thread!
tx
Mark.
This in itself is a useless thread, and i feel dirty posting here. However, since the people you are complaining about do not read, then they obviously aren't going to read this are they. A post like this is troll bait tbh.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Some people feel if they haven't posted a reply every 2-3 minutes, they haven't really browsed a forum. What the OP says is right.
It is not the goal of a forum to be a place where we can post questions ?
I understand that sometimes it's very annoying to see the same question 10 times again and again, but come on.... We were all newbies one day, with a question that maybe we searched before, and didn't find anything revelant/working, don't you think ?
Furthermore, it's the same problem on every (big?) forum you'll browse. Will you post such thing everywhere ?
I can agree about people posting in wrong section (ie, all in Dev forums to be more seen). Exemple : Your post. Nothing to do in dev.
So before asking people to follow rules, start by following it yourself...
Useless thread.

@OP For me personally, reading a question multiple times is actually far less agitating than reading your aggressive unnecessary and above all self-righteous tantrum.
If this issue really bothers you that much that it leaves you feeling sad, aggressive and hateful of anybody that dares to ask for help, I suggest you seek professional psychiatric help.
EDIT: As mentioned earlier you posted this thread in the wrong section. Hahahahahaha ROFL. Geez man, who peed in your cheerios?!
This thread itself is in fact worse than these annoying annoying questions msung complained about. If a thread really bothers you just report it and be on your way.
I agree that removing the 30 second search delay would help. 10 seconds is more reasonable.

So I tried to post in a ROM thread and get a message saying I'm not aloud cause I'm under 10 post and no expert but yet I was able to post there the other day twice which was no repost or a noob question. So now I can't post a question that still has not been posted by anyone else or has been posted anywhere. So guess I need to just make random post bout 7 more time so that can make me a expert at knowing what's going on just to post in certain threads ... Cool
What did you want to post? They had an announcement a few days ago about why new members (under ten posts) would no longer be able to post in the development section. Nothing to get upset over.

Also what if I had a problem to report bout a rom but couldn't post in the right thread am I to make a new one or sit back and wait to see if anyone ever post the same problem? Generally the themes are in the "Themes and Apps" section. I think they figure that if you've gone through the process of rooting your phone, learning to use adb and flashing ROMs and kernels you've probably exceeded ten posts. They just want to keep the development sections clean so the developers stick around. I happen to think that's a great idea.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
All you have to do is post ten times before you can post there, and if you are here enough contributing that shouldn't be so hard...?
It's a great idea. If you are going to root your phone and flash ROMs, hopefully you've taken the time to know everything involved in doing so.
Too many root their phones and have no idea what they are doing. It's not that hard to read and watch video to learn how things work.

Unfortunately, 90% of the posts by new users are in the wrong thread when they post to the development section. If you are in the 10% that do know what that section is for, then great, make your 10 posts and unlock the door. And thank you for contributing! Once you have been for awhile, you'll start to see for yourself why they made that change.
If it was a question then.. it shouldn't been in development
There's your problem from the start
Imo I think they should make the post count higher to post in development or even better they should hafta get a mod to approve if your allowed to

I'm down for a higher post count, 10 can be too simple, and people can just post a bunch of stupid ish in random forums to get to it. If you have a specific question about a rom, chances are you haven't read through the 30+ pages of that thread. So instead of posting about it again, search JUST the rom thread, not the android dev. forum, with 1-2 keywords of your problem, more likely than not, you will find a fix for your problem, or see that it is still unresolved.

I've been coming to XDA for about 6 months now, but I haven't been posting on the threads because I'm able to solve issues myself. It sucks that they just added this when there are plenty of people who are mature enough to search and solve their problems without complaining about not being able to find a fix. It seems like, once again, the ignorance of few have ruined it. I guess I'll just have to answer some questions until I get up to 10 posts so I can actually give input on bugs and other ROMs I test.

XDA answered your questions and provided ROMs to flash for your enjoyment for 6 months... I think 7 more informative/helpful posts is the least you can do to give back.
I'm also working my way up to 10 so that I can join in the CM7 discussion on this forum.
That is a ridiculous rule. It only does one thing it keeps some spamer or troll from sighing up and do his dirty deeds quick. Nothing else.
I have over hundred post and a title like "senior member", like that's supposed to be anything. I can tell you right now I don’t no my head from my ass. ~ & worse; I think I'm funny.
Vibrant Axura 2.2 Voodoo 5 JL5 via the XDA app
It has nothing whatsoever to do with spamming and trolling. If it was to control spam and trolls, don't you think they would have applied some kind of rule to ALL forums and not just the developer forums?
It's blatantly obvious that it's to keep people who don't know any better from posting off-topic non-development questions in the development forums. By the time somebody makes 10 posts, they've hopefully figured out where to post things.
I honestly can't believe this is even an issue... its 10 freaking posts. Get over it.

Delete thread please?
Its a very very fine line between being a good administrator and being a clown.
I own a forum with over 2500 members (very small, but thats the way we like it), and am an admin on three others.
I give my mods pretty much free reign to do as they wish, BUT I often find myself going back and cleaning up messes.
It is very important for the continuity of information that threads be kept in the appropriate section. It would have taken less time to simply move this thread than to answer the way that he did.
But as I said, its a rough life as a mod/admin. No pay, no appreciation in most cases, and it does nothing but anger the family...
Take it easy on the guy, he really is just trying to do what he thinks is best for the community. Unless his post was edited, I see absolutely nothing offensive about it. In fact, this thread is more offensive than the one you are referencing.
Ja, you are right about some things. But it should have just been moved.Different viewpoints. I also mod a forum, sorry that this thread offended you, but i got offended seeing a relative newcomer get the cold shoulder when asking nicely.
That is more offensive.
Going to delete the content of original post. My time of the month.

In my defence I'm having to move at least 10 threads a day from general to q&a... despite a sticky and a forum announcement explaining that questions should not be posted here.
When I realised that the thread your talking about was posted by a new member I'm pretty sure I unlocked it and moved it to q&a....
I can't promise I'll pay the same courtesy to members who should know better though.
I have spent the past two weeks moving every [Q] thread that appeared but unfortunately that doesn't help to get the message across.

You dont have to explain a thing bud, Its the idiots who cant read that we should be complain about not the mods doing their job.
Alot of people including myself are sick and tired of crap getting posted in wrong places, its really irritating and tbh stickies or announcements shouldn't even need to be made, its pretty much common sense and anybody with half of a brain can see which section which kind of topic goes in and which it doesn't. Obviously though we get some people who either cant grasp this concept who are just too lazy to read forum titles.

Im no dev, so, for what ive seen, I should not be able to post on devs forums even if im replying to someone's question. So instead of getting bullied out of the forums, im gonna suggest to mods to ban anyone like me who's just a senior member from the dev forum to avoid all those "move your stupid question to the q&a thread recently created mumbo jumbo whatever ever and change your post with moved to wherever".
Most people here are not devs. I dont mean to disrespect any dev or anyone who share their work, but, I think this kind of changes just made things difficult to devs and end users alike having to look to two threads to find an answer or to answer. Mostly because google brings better search results about xda than the xda search option.

it's just that dev threads are getting a lot of same questions asked again and again, with some people responding in the beginning and later bullying. it's normal. just reading the rom thread and going to q&a thread to post a question is not difficult. meanwhile dev thread should be for posting bugs and solutions and updates. it makes the whole thread a lot more easy to follow

Dont get me wrong, I understand but still think that for this rules to work we need an effective way to search xda. Ive been ignored before when asking something which is already answered, but all this "move your post to somewhere else" and "then editing your post on said thread and moving it to another" is annoying and just add more post without being useful to anyone. If the question was answered then ignore like before.

@FCORivers
not everyone are noobs.
people who search before posting aren't noobs. people who read before posting aren't noobs
people who ask "hoe brinj hd2 android phnoe in start bot" and similar stuff are noobs. people who don't even bother searching are noobs. people know how to read and write, but those who don't bother doing them correctly are noobs.
people who come to new roms' threads and post bugs posted in op and in first few pages are noobs. and unfortunately those end up on xda via google or youtube.
posting a question is not wrong, but expecting the development thread to be a user manual and consumer support is just wrong. this is one of the reasons q&a threads exist.
and why keep the noobs away? lets just remove the 10 post rule, let noobs fill development threads with "how instal zs ram" and "hoe flash kernil" and "phone bricked" and "my mother punished me for phone not turn on any more". what's easier??
I'm very sure that posting a question in a dev thread and moving it to q&a and leaving a note that it's been moved isn't something hard.
I'm not trying to be lame by any way.

exactly. what i said was inspired by this and another post(i forgot where from)
I still think you havent understood me.
I have been ignored when asking stupid qs before, I dont think q&a threads are users guides. If the post is about something already asked, ignore it, if it is stated in op ignore it. Its not about that. Its about polluting a thread asking people to move their posts. Do you think my post is polluting cause is not dev related? What about two post instead which arent dev related? I never access this site via pc or laptop and never ever on my phones web browser which makes moving posts a little bit more complicated than over pc. Why dont get a pm from the same mod to ask you to do that and kindly ask devs to add q&a link in op? Most devs have done that already. So if a noob still fails to follow the rules then a kind pm reminding him/her the rules. But a "deleted post" or "moved post" is still not dev related, there will be a post non the less. Mod posted about new q&a threads, I know.
I dont expect anyone to agree and probably language has something to do with me not being able to make a point here as English is not my native language. Its just that I feel like a little kid getting reprimanded cause most of the time ( im not perfect) I thoroughly searched before posting and still have missed some answers.
As I mentioned before, I had a post like that for sharing my setup. My post was there for about 3 weeks before I got reprimanded. So I see it like the mod wants his new authority to be noticed.
I wont post anymore on dev threads if I dont find my answer on the q&a thread with out detailed info and logcat, got it, but going back 3 weeks on an unattended, almost forgotten rom thread (sorry dev, not meaning anything bad about the rom, I liked it for a while) is what I was complaining for.
Yes im an old crybaby, lol.

Thanks for the read.
But I dont care if that post has 2 million thanks and states what is right, is not really what ive seen in this forums. You dont have to be my friend to be friendly, you dont have to be rude either. Ignoring works miracles, lol.
Havent got a post like that in any other device forum here on xda.
Nah, ignore this one too.
Edit: forget every little thing. Just my bad attitude mixed with a stupid misunderstanding.
