Here are a few quotes from good ol birdman-
KeithBlak Keith Black
@_mrbirdman_ Mr. Sir, everyone has been real quiet about the dX bootloader, and it seems some are giving up. Is there still hope?

@KeithBlak There is hope....just you wait and see

Many of you were already aware that birdman was up to something interesting. I am posting this to reinforce hope in our small Droid X Community. Good things are just over the horizon.
I just want 2.1 back. I should have read further before stupidly, and blindly, just upgrading to the OTA because I could. I really hope this is what is being worked on.
he is waiting for the 2.2 sbf to modify the bootloader.. but with motorola keeping it close to chest, its hard to get a hold of.. SOMEONE SEND IT TO HIM!!
He tweeted a lone tweet last night, "certain thing". Sounds like he may have obtained the Samuel Bravo Foxtrot! Let's hope for some news soon.

What is it that everyone is looking for?? I like the OTA and what I can do with it.
Yeah.. I can't mess with the kernel or bootloader... but I rarely do that anyway. What I do on a normal basis.. can already be done.

Everyone is looking for phone customization. What may be fine for you may not be even close to enough for others.
Does anyone know the IRC channel birdman uses? I would love to offer assistance in the cracking of the bootloader in any way I can...

How about the removal of blur? Or the simple ability to flash a vanilla Android 2.2 the way Google designed it?
Not a biggie foe me- but there is a lot more people could want.

Eh, his point is you can already do that, and in his defense, he is pretty much right. However, we cannot modify the kernel, and thus cannot have a true Rom, this is something I would like to be able to do.
Once the bootloader is unlocked/bypassed we will then be able to have true built from source Rom's/Kernels and unlock the true potential of the DX. Cyanogen has said he will support the Droid X/2 once its unlocked, CCR is already building an AOSP Rom but with the Moto kernel for obvious reasons so there is hope on the horizon. A leak of the "Sierra Bravo Foxtrot" will be found, then the fun begins for everyone as we will all have a way back to safety.

That's what I was looking for.
So to sum it up:
We can already customize the Droid X like any other android phone on the market (remove bloatware, theme frameworks, play with root priveleges, etc)... but some ppl are wanting more.
The ppl that are wanting more... are wanting to get to the brains (kernel & bootloader) so they can build a ROM from scratch, get some CM lovin, TRUE overclocking, BF scheduling, UV'ing, TRUE recovery, etc.
I understand that... and always understood it lol. I just always wondered why I saw so many posts asking for things that can already be done.. and have been.
Not to sound ignorant, but why is the 2.2 SBF so hard to come by?? Dosent every Verizon store in the Nation have the 2.2 SBF file in there tech support department? You think it would of been leaked by now considering the people guarding the worlds secrets are run of the mill, 12 dollers an hour verizon workers in every store you go in

Motorola has a team searching the intertubes (internet) for any mention of a leaked Sierra Bravo Foxtrot and have had their lawyers send them nice cease emails to both the poster and the fourm owners warning them to remove the links and delete any uploaded software.. I have had 1 thread deleted from here just because i asked for it..
hope that explains it.
edit: I didnt mention this before.. but it was already leaked twice.. and taken down twice.

You'd think it would be on rapidshare or something by now if that was the case. I find it really hard to believe that 2.2 sbf has been leaked at all.
Do a google search for "droid x 2.2 sbf" and look at your first couple hits.. you will see that the moderators have removed the posts because of threats they received from motorola.
as for improving our chances of finding it we need the actual file name..
Get the file name and we have just up'd our chances by 10x.

Hello,
I am planing on the Atrix for august when I will be in the US,
And I wonder- do you think the Bootloader will be cracked untill then?
Or Motorola Unlock it/ update to- 2.4?
Thank You,
Daniel

wow it sound really pessimistic.
I am following the DEVS thread and it looks like they found something and soon the will find a way to hack this...
they havent posted in the bootloader thread in a couple of days, so i dont know whats going on. its killing me too.
i cant make heads or tales of what they have done as of yet, but i can say that it looks better for us now that they have a way to recover (the sbf) if they mess something up. a lot of things things they can try now that they may not have wanted to before, for fear of brick
Not really pessimistic, just neutral. We can make guesses but there is no way to be certain the loader will be broken or whether motorola will give up and unsign it. They have stated we will get 2.3 for sure, but 2.4 is a toss up still.

Well thats sucks.
2.3 doesn't bring any important changes, and it does take time to make the update.
waste of time..
well it just means that if the devs here won't get to bootloader hacked the milestone story will be back.

Who cares about 2.3? 2.4 is what everyone's after...
GPU-accelerated UI and Browser
Built-in Gtalk video chat support
Multi-language browser support
And as Matias Duarte implied, all the Honeycomb design changes will be in 2.4
So who cares about 2.3? Not me. If the Atrix isn't released unsigned in Canada, and unless the XDA hacks it, I will be going for the Nexus S, and sticking with the Nexus line for the next few years...
Hard to speak about 2.4, as we don't have much of a clue about it. But loading custom kernels and the like is really making me re-think the decision about buying the Atrix...
Not to be a downer in this thread, but I wouldn't hold your breath for the unlocked bootloader, but it is nice that some fresh minds are going at it.
With that said, the devs for the D2 and DX have been able to set the users up with a good amount of customization.

Sent from that Atrix... Motorola, where's my ICS?!
First of all : Sorry for bumping a thread this old. I did this not to start a new one.
The update status on Moto's website has changed. We're not even sure we're getting ICS or JB, but we're almost sure of one thing : Moto has intel that if released may help us getting a stable CM10 ROM with almost everything working (HWA, Camera, Fingerprint scanner..?).
There is no time to lose. Moto didn't put the Atrix in the list of deprecated-devices-that-doesn't-deserve-an-update YET. And we found someone who can possibly help us getting this intel a month ago : Punit Soni.
How to act ? Simply put a comment on a post on his G+ profile.
DO NOT SPAM HIM.
Just leave a comment, with your feelings, your feedback, how much you love your device (Or not..?), and how much WE need this release.
If we're enough (~20-30), our voice can be heard. It would cost nothing Motorola to release these drivers, and we're waiting for them for too long. Nvidia is one of the worst company ever with its community/clients. The operators are too big, they won't listen to us and I don't think they really care about an almost-legacy device that doesn't even bring them money anymore.
If someone knows a dev at Motorola, TELL US (PM me, or anyone who would be OK to try getting in touch with the devs).
It's up to us to make this release come sooner.
I agree with him. Lets do this guys! We need support here! Im selling my phone after the next update of that chart, if Atrix 4G is still in the same status, thats it.
I guess, good news from Punit is:
Punit SoniYesterday 9:47 AM+27
I genuinely do feel the pain of folks here. And we really do want to change things. Based on the four weeks I have been around, I can say that two things are going to happen in the future: we will make informed commitments and once we make them we will do everything we can to meet them. Second, we will as transparent as possible given the constraints that software pushes like these are complex and have many dependencies. We have a plan, according to that plan, Bionic is going to ICS soon. I will next dig into ATRIX and we will have updates/clarity soon. Now I also know no answer I give is going to assuage everyone and things cannot be made right overnight.
I also can't say I will be able to be as plugged into the community all the time because it just doesn't scale. But I hope you see that Motorola- Google really does care. Even if we are not able to make everyone happy all the time at least in the short term while things are still being fixed.

Do you guys think the lollipop update will help the chance of a root method being found? When the update comes out should I do it right then and there or wait to see if lollipop will completely ruin any chance
There was an article from ChainsDD saying that if anything lollipop is more locked down. My bet is, if their going to get root it's going to be on KitKat.

Wouldn't we have root by now then? I only say because KitKat doesn't seem that hard to root even though it varies depending on OEM. I would think since lollipop for the Droid Turbo isn't too far off (we hope) Then devs would just wait til then for root because most people will take the lollipop update. At least that's how it looks to me and this is my opinion
I'm pretty sure Lollipop will come with root.

To sum up what I think he means is he believes that root will be obtained in lollipop for the Droid Turbo ( Again just guessing)
I think reduces chances of root
I say helps. Because pretty soon all current moto phones will be on lollipop anyways

My opinion is that Kit Kat doesn't have root NOT because its impossible but because the lack of interest from the people that find these exploits, perhaps its just a matter of time before one of these guys gets a Turbo and works on it or so we hope.
Finding these exploits is not easy an requires insane amounts of personal time and resources, often with little reward. I understand that there's a bounty on this site but this site is just a star in a galaxy. Sometimes these exploits are found by Asian hackers not Americans therefore the audience is very limited on a Verizon exclusive device like our Turbo.
I do however believe, and this is just my opinion and perhaps wishful thinking, that Lollipop will shine a spotlight on this device and people will notice it even more and perhaps attract some of these guys willing to spend hours after hours finding that one vulnerability in that one line code where they can inject their own code to achieve root. Good luck to us!

I bet the differ. No phone would come out with an update with root included. An exploit needs to be found. Even chainfire states that root access is going to be harder with lollipop. I dont think we will be seeing root anytime soon. Atleast for a year.
I hope he didn't actually mean the update would be rooted already.

Yes, that's why there are custom ROMs for the device.
I signed it.
They're probably gonna sleep like a baby after seeing a million people even care for their source code.
Smaller/Newer companies care more about their users/buyers more ... I hope so at least Cause if we have more customization - we'll have more to brag about and a happy client brings more clients
Let's just hope they know that and help us, so we help them

I also want to be able to run LineageOS 15+ (Android 8+). Any alternative?
