Any way to enable wave to wake? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

You know, its the feature where if you wave your hand in front of your phones proximity sensor the screen momentarily lights up so you can check notifications at a glance. It used to be a moto x only thing, but I know there is a form of it available for other phones since my cyanogen s3 is able to do it as well.
It's really the only major feature *outside of chop-for-flashlight gesture* that I would miss from the moto x.
Does the axon have a option to enable it or something like it?

No it does not. A lot of people use apps like Kinetic Screen or Dynamic Notifications, but they don't let the CPU sleep :S I miss that from my many Motos, too.

nope

[Q] Any way to disable wake-on-motion?

Seems to me that far and away the #1 battery killer in Wear is the fact that the watch turns itself on constantly due to incidental movements. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next OS update (however that works) but in the meantime... I'm using a Moto 360 and I've read that "silencing" the phone would turn this feature off, didn't work though. I'm thinking of making an app that would just force the screen off until I hit the hardware button and disregard accelerometer events, but I don't know if this is possible. Anyone know if there's a working fix to the overzealous motion wake yet? If not I'll give it the ol' college try...

Can someone please help with this?? I have the same problem!
I would really like this as a feature too. In class it can be a bit distracting. There should really be a ton more options in the Android Wear app. Options like:
Disable Motion to Wake
Disable Tap to Wake
Swipe up/down (on the bottom) to hide/show notifications
Option to re-show dismissed weather cards without saying "Show me the weather".
Option to turn off vibrator (I can just glance at my watch when I feel my phone vibrate)
To answer the OP, no you can not disable wake-on-motion.
Many want this, I want this but who knows what Google will offer.
Rumor is there will be a Android Wear update soon, but I read the main thing is you will be able to play music from your watch, great I get 16-17 hours battery life and I really want to use it as a MP3 player.

Hand wave to wake lock screen does work ! Well kind of

Hello everyone this is my first post here.
I just upgraded from a Moto X XT1060 to the newer Moto G 3rd Gen 1GB/8GB XT1540 two weeks ago, And found out that it does have a hand swipe to wake the Moto Display but it only works once every lock screen cycle.
I'm assuming this behavior is a bug, Can anyone else test this for me ?
1. Make sure Moto Display is on and set the phone on a table, let the screen go black, wait 2min.
2. Now swipe your hand over the screen about 1/4inch from the glass, Walla !! screen turns on ! woohoo ! lol
3. Now hand swipe again, Yep it doesn't work anymore....
4. Now unlock the screen to show your main home page etc.
5. Now set the phone back on the table and let the screen turn off again, Wait 2min and repeat hand swipe, Works again lol ! but again only works once.
Anyone else seeing this ?
No it doesn't work for me.

That is moto display, the moto g 2015 shouldn have swipe to unlock.
not working for me
Tested under these conditions :
1) Moto display ON
2) Layed it still on bed , table.
3) waved my hand really close to it several times, and i touched with out disturbing it on every spot ..
Result :: Not working wave gesture,
NOTE: if ur device moves in x,y,z directions even a little.. the moto display gets active ONLY ONCE.
Well weird lol my moto g is bugged or something.
I do have both hand gestures turned off, Both the camera twist and chop for Flashlight are off, Wonder if that's why I have this bug.
I hope someone else posts this same behavior or I guess ill be forced to return it since it could be a defective product. Would any of you return it for this bug ?
No go for me either. OP are you sure you're not somehow moving the phone when you wave your hand by it? I mean it only takes an ever so slight movement to active the Moto Display, so if you're waving your hand 1/4 inch from the screen maybe wind is moving the phone causing it to work?
Proximity sensor can activate moto display to.
I'm sure I'm not moving the phone when i wave my hand over it, I'm also sure it is the proximity sensor.
But can anyone check this, I didn't run Google play store to update apps yet so I'm thinking its because of that it hasn't updated the Moto app. Which in turn is something else that's strange, Within the first 12hours of setting it up it only updates like 13 apps etc. then after 12 hours of sitting the Google play store is offering more to update like Moto boot and some others, Weird that letting it sit for 12hours it then is offering more to update very strange.

yeah, that might be the case, when i got the mobile the 1st moto app used to behave strangely.. that was infact good and less intelligent
1) BEFORE:when i power on torch using Chop CHop it used to be ON till i OFF with either Chop-chop or manually turn off. that is the only case to turn off.
NOW : if i keep the phone idle without disturbing it in Flipped/regular way it stops automatically after 2 seconds or so..
2) moto display also became more agressive, while i am sleeping if bed's cushion goes down even a little it would lit up .. that was a little annoying.
These are the things i had seen changed..
so.. i am sure that updates had changed the behaviour of Moto App, that might also be the reason.. i will try to uninstall updates and check it
---------- Post added at 08:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:45 AM ----------
Yo genius it works
i had uninstalled the Updates and now the proximity seems to be working but it just Lights up the moto display, and quickly turns off the display
and that i call it a WORKING
if you update your Moto app, this will be GONE
Tested conditions :
1) on a table, by keeping a haircomb near to it for a second and removed it with out disturbing the mobile
2) On the bed same with my hand on the proximity sensor or a second and removing it
NOTE: i am not waving my hand over it, it seems like i am not perfectly waving it else it would also work ..
Awesome thanks !, So it only does the hand wave once then doesn't do it again until you go to home screen then let it fall back to sleep ?
I noticed my twist motion has become far more sensitive, as well...I'm forever opening my camera by accident. Especially when I take my phone out of my pocket.
All the Reviews I've read for this phone were saying the same thing that the twist for camera is sensitive.
Whenever I wave my hand over it, it wakes up for about 3 seconds then turns right off. I woke it 3 times in a minute.
Not unlocked but awake.
I'm using gestures in Moto and in Res Remix ROM.
So your using a custom ROM with your Moto G 2015 ? and it lets you do the wave more then once per lock session ?
It works very well just you need to wave your hand over proximity sensor and it will wake your phone.

Some Questions about Moto Display

Hi all,
i love the moto display feature but i have some issues that make it less usable for me.
- on certain conditions the moto display seems to react to fast, while on other i had to wave 3-4 times until the screen was woken up. Does anybody know what makes the display not recognize the wave sometimes?
- i hate the fact that the notifications are an all or nothing feature. i might have 10 notifications, and i can only dismiss them all at once. But i want to dismiss onlyspecific ones and keep the rest on my lockscreen. Is this possible somehow?
- as the moto display dismisses all notifications at once, and the regular android lockscreen doesn't, creates situations where there are notifications on the drawer (which need to be dismissed manualls) vs. the Moto screen that doesn't show any notification.
Is there any way to make the dismissing of notifications work as on stock android (possibility to either dismiss all, or only specific ones).
I'm pretty sure its a proximity and light sensor of some sort, but other than that, I'm having the same issues as you.

I believe that only the sensors on the top of the phone fact to the wave. I don't know what the bottom sensors do.
Why is it impossible to find a diagram listing the location and function of all of the sensors?
If you have many notifications and want to do each individually, then instead of using the moto display just hit the power button to go to the normal lockscreen.

Top sensor is for waving (as you said). Bottom sensors are there for when you pick the phone up. If you go to pick the phone up, once your hand covers those two sensors, the display lights up. I found this out somewhere on XDA because I had no idea what they did either lol.
you can disable the sensor, and it will work like the first generation moto x.
Still, the sensor works fine for me, they just takes a little time to turn on after the screen lights on (about 1, 2 seconds) so it's not instant.

Thanks!
I checked out the bottom sensors, and it appears that they do respond only to touch, as opposed to waving over. :good:

Double tap 2 Wake

Since we already have a low power sensor chip which can detect nudge, do you think developers will be able to add low power DT2W functionality to this phone?
I feel google mad a major miss by not adding it.
What's the point of DT2W when you have a fingerprint scanner that you litterally just tap and it turns on and unlocks the phone

I have an anecdotal scenario where double-tap would be useful. I prop up my Nexus 6P on a stand on my desk while I work, and when I hear the notification sound it would be nice to just double-tap my screen to see what it is. I don't really want to pick up the device for that. First world problems...but still.
I would really love a way to enable dt2w only when the phone is flat (like on a table) because it's so annoying when my skin somehow activates it through my jeans. I'm guessing this is why they did not include it.. pocket dialing and pocket photos should be a thing of the past but with dt2w it happened a lot.
On the Nexus 6, there was a hidden Double tap to wake feature that was disabled. I'll have to have a further look at the source when it becomes available.
If there isn't one hidden then dt2w can always be ported over from other phones.
It should be noted that dt2w is only useful when combined with software that prevents double tap to wake when the phone is in your pocket and low-power dt2w.
When it is sitting on my desk and i want to wake it up? Don't tell me nudge, cause its ridiculous to have to push my phone around

It can easily be avoided by combining with on body detection and or proximity sensor.

Thats the big Q, is will be low power, in theory you already have the code for nudge.. so if that is not proprietary blob then we would have a look into the low power sensor array..

Raise to Wake

Wondering if theirs a baked kernel that has a raise to wake feature. Installing a 3rd party app might cost wake time. And I love the feature on my iOS10. Doubletap to wake is nice but raise to wake it a bit more convenient during a hang over.

He means waking device using motion/proximity sensor..
Like moto display
You pick up the phone, display gets on for 2,3 sec... shows notification and time..
Not sure but maybe it is called ambient display.
Hey Guys. No problem strongst. Not everyone uses an idevice. yea its a upward motion sensor that lights up the screen. Exactly what Vikas mention on his 3rd line post. But I dont think its a proximity sensor or has anything to do with ambient.
Ive tried a few 3rd party apps and they didn't work very well. Also you have to pick it up in a angle, and what's annoying is when the screen is off you carry it and tilt it in an angle the screen lights up. 3rd party apps also have to be always whitelisted in my batt saving settings because it needs to be always active to work. I am getting 3 days on battery and would like to keep it that way

I'm sure you can make such things with Tasker, but it's wast of battery in my opinion to much false positives I think.
