Weird messaging-problem. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

When receiving an SMS-message(stock app), the envelope symbol in the notification-pane doesn't go away on it's own, after I have read the message. I have to delete it manually, every time. My girlfriend has an S7 Edge also, and everything works fine there. I have tried to clear data and cache and even a factory reset, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

After updating to JPO I can read or send SMS anymore.

Hi,
today I installed JPO through a reg hack and everything went very well. Now I've my good froyo... With a major problem: I can't send or read sms. If I open the SMS app, it will show the msg list, if I try opening one the phone starts vibrating and the app crashes. Same thing if I try to write.
I tried to wipe the cache partition, I tried to clear the application data. No way.
One good thing from this update: the RECOVERY MODE now WORKS, never worked before (at most I could get the DOWNLOAD MODE work by flashing something with Odin).
One neutral thing: GPS still sucks. It's really hard to see my girlfriend poor HTC Tattoo being fast and precise in GPS reception, while mine sucks so much. Really the bloody Tattoo can get so accurate it's scarying.
Anyway HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS SMS issue!?!? I Need to use them!
Which country/network? Have you tried an alternative SMS app like chompsms or handcent?
It's a T-Mobile (anyway it was debranded when I did the JM1 update a month ago). UK.
No I didn't try handcent sms. I'd like the standard one to work!
Do you think that a factory reset could work
same thing happened to me the day before yesterday - reflash and factory reset cured it for me
I also had the same problem. The factory reset helped me. No reflashing was needed.
I had the same problem. Factory reset was not enough, reflashing was needed. Also, it seems like it can be "preserved" in backuped settings of Messaging application - it returned when I restored these settings from Titanuim Backup after reflashing, so be careful

Persistent Voicemail notification

leave yourself a few voicemails and then delete them. I had this same issue happen to me. for some reason my phone was registering that I had a voicemail even though i didn't have any so it continually tryed to say I had one. So, I left myself a couple voicemails so that the count would be up, soft reset my phone, and checked my voicemail deleting them all. Hope it works for you. I know I did it without a factory reset; so if you don't get it intially don't wipe it out yet.

Thanks siralex, I've had other voicemails and tried creating a few to clear it but the combination of multiple voicemails with a reset before clearing them has done the trick. Thanks

[Q] Voicemail Icon won't go away

Okay I've tried everything to rid my phone of the voicemail icon issue. Currently using Golden Eye MJ7 version for my AT&T S4
I've Tried:
-Calling the voicemail and checking my messages (no messages)
First of all my voicemail sounds different and can't get back to stock AT&T Voicemail-Deleting Phone Data from the Apps Settings page in App Manager
-Calling from another phone and leaving a message
-Deleting that message I just created
-Restarting my phone
-Wiping Cache and Dalvik
-Calling ##004# to restore everything to its original settings (didn't work)
I had that happen long time ago. Can't remember if calling carrier fixed it or deleting apk and re-installing?
Did you Google it yet, seems I found some stuff that way too--
That happened to me once, I ended up calling AT&T from a different phone and they reset something and it went away
Call ATT and have them reset your voicemailbox. I tried everything in the xda forums and my icon would not go away until I finally called and had it reset and in 2 seconds the icon was gone.
Call ur number and leave a voicemail. Then check it. Worked for me the few times it happened.

HELP. 6P not receiving texts/BLANK SMSC

To start, I'm on Android 7.0 using the September security patch and am rooted.
Never had an issue with this phone before. Ever since yesterday morning I have not been able to receive anyone's text messages. I'm not sure about MMS but I haven't gotten any of those either. The weird thing is that I can SEND texts just fine....and I can also send text messages to myself and they come through.
After digging and researching I accessed that hidden settings menu by typing *#*#4636#*#* into my dialer and looking at the SMSC number which should be for Tmobile, my provider, +12063130004. However, it's blank and I'm unable to change it. Hitting "update" gives me an "update error" in the field and if I hit refresh I get "+12063130004",145 with the quotes and the 145. If I hit update from there and reboot it's still blank. If I put in +12063130004 and reboot it's still blank.
I have data, I can make and receive calls and surf the web. So far I've tried switching sms apps to no avail. I'm currently using google messenger. I've tried removing the sim and placing it back in. I went in to TWRP wiped cache, dalvich cache and data and it did nothing. Finally I reverted to a nandroid I made about a month ago when sms was working fine and it's still not working.
I'm out of ideas fellas. At my wit's end here!
Oh, I should also let you know that I think this all started when my girlfriend sent me a text message that i received yesterday morning. It was the last text I was able to get......she's on a cruise so she sent it somewhere near mexico....I think it made my phone have a massive brain fart and I'm not sure how to fix this bug. Please help!!
No one? I've found nothing on the web..
This may sound obvious, but have you tried using a factory image to return to stock?
Sounds like you've done everything but that.
I suppose you could also try deleting your APN and manually entering a correct one for your carrier. That's helped me in the past on other devices when I've had weird data/service issues.
Funny you asked. I did a full wipe and returned to stock on the latest November build. Still a no go. People still get my texts and I can still use data/make and receive calls fine. I'll try the APN suggestion now.
As far as APN's go, I tried to reset them to default. I even tried deleting all of them except for the one I was using which in the past for other devices helped with certain issues. I then created a custom APN setting that I found on the 6p forum that helped other users with SMS/MMS issues....no help for me.
I can still send SMS,mms, make and receive phone calls. No idea what to do!!!
I have a similar but different issue. I can receive messages just fine. But sometimes when i send messages id say about 40% of the time my message gets stuck at the "sending" and it takes sometimes up to 10min for it to send. I can speed the process up if i go to the secret menu and toggle the radio off and on.
Im on ATT BTW. I thought it had something to do with ATT shutting down the 2G network and the phone getting confused as to which network to send messages on but im no expert its just a theroy.
PS. I had this problem pop out of nowhere. Had it start randomly on PN6 (last build) so i upgraded to PN7 same thing on 2 different versions of the ROM. And now im on SuperAx 7.1 and still have the issue.
Ive always had problems with Nexus's and messages. When i had the Nexus 5 i actually had to warranty it out because MMS all of a sudden would not work at all.
I received one text today from someone. That's it. Not getting all the missed sms messages and not getting any additional sms messages.

Group Messages Lock Phone Up

My wife has the Tmo Variant of the S10+.
Anytime she gets involved into group messages her phone locks up.
Basically makes it act as if she has 0 connection of the phone, messages wont send, messages cant be received.
She can not go in any app that requires data, it says there is no connection.
She can make calls, that is all.
We have to delete "ALL" messages then it is fine, until she gets a response to the group and its all back up.
I have cleared the phone cache, and messages cache.
I actually clean the phone cache once a day to help. It doenst prevent , but helps it from happening too frequently.
This has just started randomly about 3 weeks ago, not right after the last security update, but maybe a week after that.
We have also factory reset the device.
.
I may add that this only seems to be a bigger issue when the groups are IOS users.
I have done some google searching but couldnt find anything acknowledging a known issue.
Any tips, secrets, or advice will be much appreciated.
My wife and I have the same device, so the next steps is to wipe them both, swap them and see if the same error persists on the swapped devices.
