i went to exhange my N7 today. If only they had the v20 in already. what a missed opportunity over the next 2 weeks...
I went back (2nd time exchanging it) to s7 edge. I hope the v20 is out in less than 2 weeks.

I've read the 28th of October is launch for US carriers, im holding onto the explosively disappointing N7 untill v20 is available
Pre-orders start the 17th. At least T-mobile they do. I didn't want to return my Note 7, however I travel a lot and don't want a bunch of crap from airlines or TSA about having a note 7 on me. So I'm considering getting the V20 or just stick with my Note 5 another year. 5.7 inches is as small as I wanna go.

I had the Note 7 and every Note since the 3. I returned my Note 7 during the 1st recall to wait for the V20.
i had a note 7. have been waiting for the V20 since they did the initial recall on the notes 7. just using my note 4 for now until i can finally get theV20
I'm looking to get the v20 as well. Preordering is next week.. But Samsung doesn't have a refund procees here yet... So I'm still waiting.
I love my note 7 but if they are not going to support it i suppose I will have to get another phone. the v20 is about the only phone that interest me. not much out there as far as phones for AT&T and not going iPhone.

Have my replacement note 7, going to do my exchange on the 28th when the V20 is available at ATT

Do you guys know of any devs who are jumping ship from N7 to V20?
Possibly looking to V20 from Note7 but due to gap I've ordered a OnePlus 3 and since found out thats not available fro 3 weeks either arrrgghh
Went to local AT&T store & pre-ordered the v20, to be shipped to me. When I get it, I bring in the N7 to the store.
I have to pre-pay the tax on the v20, and when I turn in the N7 they refund the tax (and any payments I've made on my Next plan).
BTW, it took them an hour to figure out how to do it - even after I kept telling them what to do after going through it already with the original Note 7.
(If I don't return the Note 7, then I will just keep getting charged for both phone....)
OH - they did have a v20 on the floor to play with as well. Oddly, my store didn't have a v10. If they did, I would likely have gotten it as a loaner, and returned it for the v20 - but would have cost a $35 restocking fee. Guess I can risk a fireball for 2 weeks.
--
Edit: For me, the v20 is mostly a wash against the N7. Similar cpu, memory, size, camera, usb-c. Differences are losing waterproof, pen & wireless charging (which I didn't use), gaining removable battery & second screen. Never had a LG phone before, so hope quality is good.
I'm switching from the Note7 too. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Just waiting for the phone to come out so I can get it from Verizon and trade in my Note. Hate getting rid of this phone but the V20 looks like a great phone. Since it already has 7.0 I wonder how long it'll take them to get 7.1 on it.

Just refunded my Note 7 with T-Mobile. I plan on pre-ordering the V20 first thing Monday morning as soon as it becomes available. I was sorely tempted by the Axon 7, but with two toddlers I need a good camera on my phone and the V20 is the only large phone with a good camera other than the Note 7. I'm looking forward to it since I loved the V10.
Done with Samsung and the note 7 for now. I just can't decide between the V20 or the Axon 7 and then there's the Oneplus 3
i exchange mine and wifes N7's today. she opted for the S7 edge. I went back to my note 4 and pre-ordered a V20. they said it will ship between the 24th and 27th.
we're due 2 x $25 from the first recall and $125 from the second now. plus bill credits for the note 7 payments....and i ended up with 2 x 256gb cards that work in each of the new phones so that's a plus.
the s7edge will use wireless charging pads so i'm keeping 2 of the 4 i bought and the V20 works with the type C usb cables so i can use all of those.
overall it works out that i only need to ebay 2 wireless chargers.
Waiting on the v20 to come out too. I can't go smaller than 5.7 , so no pixel for me
Damn, this is too SAD moving away from the Note Series!
I had the LG G3 and G4, loved then then went back to Notes. Loved the Note 7 but have a feeling there will be no updates to the phone. I doubt any devs will pitch in either. Looking at V20, only phone ill go to. Holding it for 2 more weeks.

Tried doing the same thing as you did, but they wouldn't let me do it unless I left the store without my Note7. In other words, I had to give them my Note7 right then and there.
I don't have any extra phone lying around, and I NEED a phone for work, personal use, and emergencies (accident, 911, etc). I have no land lines either.
So we ended up cancelling the preorder and now I have to wait until the 28th.

So, I'm due an upgrade. A certain electronics dealer (not sure if it would be against the rules to name them) is running 2 promos: 1) Get a Note 5: get a $250 gift card at time of purchase. 2) Get any of the s7devices (Edge/Note too) and get a free 32" Sammy Smart TV. I don't really need the tv but the mother in law could use it. So, I literally cannot decide which to get. They have pros and cons all around. I'm a trucker, so my concern about the Edge's display is whether the glare along that curve would be annoying or distracting. My wife's s7 hasn't lagged yet, but reviews of both Notes mention lag (precious few reviews of Note 5 after MM update). Most reviews can't call a clear-cut "pick this one." And so, the freebies enter the equation. What do you guys think? I'm sure some of you had the 5. Do you think the 7 is significantly better? That it performs better?
Depends, I have been a note fan for along time. I use the s pen a bunch, and love the 5.7 inch screen size. I would say if you ate a note fan , and use the s pen a lot then go with the note 7. If you don't use the pen the the s7(or edge) would be good. I had the note 5 as my daily phone for a year, it's a solid phone, but the note 7 is better. The IP68 rating is awesome and I take the note 7 everywhere without worry about the weather. The battery performance is soo much better than the note 5 as well. I also was able to get the 256gb SD card for the Note 7 and its been great to be able to have all my music in my phone again. Hope this helps.

Sorry for lateness of reply. I've been testing an s7 Edge and an iPhone 6s+ to see if either is a suitable "upgrade." Can't do the iPhone. It's just too limiting. BUT since the Note 7 is officially done for, is the Note 5 "just as good?" I use the S Pen semi-regularly, but it isn't essential. I can do what I do without it. So I'm down to these 3 phones: s7 Edge which is ok but I'm UNimpressed with its performance. Seriously. I expected better, for some reason. LG v20 which is costly and even the AT&T rep was telling me "I've had literally 10 LG V10s returned in 6 months for manufacturing flaws." I asked her to elaborate and she said "Screen issues. Lines and such." Or the Note 5. If the s7 isn't flawless IMO, then how can a half generation older device be any better? Any input is appreciated.

I think it depends who you ask, and of course what you want to use it for. It isn't a bad device, but to give you an idea, I skipped the Note 5 in favor of my Note 4 at the time because of the removable battery and no SD card. The Note 7 however, was new enough to get me over to the other side and give the "no removable battery" a go (one of the added reasons was also the 256 GB SD card lol).
Right now, my personal options for a new phone are Pixel, V20, S7 Edge or back to my old Note 4 for the time being. And in all honesty, unless I like how the S7 Edge feels within a cover, I'll likely end up with my Note 4 again. I need the space an SD slot can provide me, and well, I'm still kind of hooked to the idea of being able to remove a battery and put a new one in

Like you, I held off on the 5 because of those issues. But I'm not a huge fan of the edges/curves. There's not a case on the market that provides decent protection for it simply due to the design. To make matters worse, Zagg pulled its tempered glass protectors because they weren't staying on. Haven't found one yet that does. Functionally, it's an awful design. It's easily broken. The v20 is an option, but it's really expensive, and I just can't justify that for an LG. They don't deserve it. I've never had luck with LG devices lasting. I'm not even remotely interested in the Pixel, but my Note 4 screen has burn-in. The s7 Edge isn't awful, but I was hoping for more in terms of performance. I may just return this one and get a regular s7.
The closest thing to the note 7 is the note 5.. I'm actually using both of them till I return my note 7..lol
I got the N5 when it came out, i was hesitant about the battery and memory (reason i got the 64gb) but i have had no issues. Im glad i didn't sell it. Its in perfect condition.

Hmm, I think that's a bit the thing. While I have read others saying similar things, I never had any issues with LG Prada that I had when it first came out. I loved that phone at the time.. but granted, it's also the only LG I ever owned so I don't really know for sure how the brand holds up with other models.
I bought an LG TV & Sound plate, and have owned a G2 & Tab 7.0. only the Tab 7 still works. Also, WAAAAY back in the day I had an LG Vu (in the pre-smart phone era). The $200 rebate helps lean me towards it.

I agree, ATT is a lot more expensive, not just phones but also with the plans. Sadly it's also the only one (together with Verizon, but I want GSM for my trips to Europe so no chance I go to them) that has decent coverage in my state. T-mobile really lacks when it comes to coverage, their customer service isn't that great either in all honesty. The price is right, I agree, if only they had decent coverage then I could live with it I guess.
This might be good for us.

I am thinking of holding on to the note 7 shut it off and use my one plus 3 until the s8 arrives. Then I will exchange for a s7 edge.
I wanted to hold out with my N7 but when they banned them on flights I figured just switch and deal with it...I went with the s7 edge because it was the closest to the N7...I've had it a few weeks now and it's okay. does most of the things the N7 did...I am unhappy with the screen size and do wish I had the stylus...Battery life is similar..But I do feel like I have gone backwards...
I have been calling ATT cust service and my local store trying to convince them to let me get the upgrade when the N8/S8 comes out but they wont...so I'm unhappy I'm locked into this Next contract with a year old phone..
I read Samsung may be doing upgrade offers to the N8 for N7 owners so there is still hope....
This S7 edge is an okay replacement to get us thru but its not a N7....

You're not necessarily locked into it though.. if you have the Next 12, and if you still have several months to go until the 12 months, you could pay forward to get the upgrade. The rules are pretty much saying that it needs to be paid for 12 months, not that you cannot upgrade for 12 months. Meaning, you pay a few months extra (let's say it comes out in august, you would have to pay 2-3 months extra probably). It isn't a favorable option since the phone you're essentially renting from them becomes more expensive to rent, but I have had it confirmed by an ATT rep that this is indeed possible to do.

There's absolutely no other phone I want, so I'm seriously considering not turning my phone in and continuing to use it. Plus I'm not at all happy with the compensation of a $25 credit. What I would deem fair is allowing me to "use" an S7e or ANY phone I want until a suitable replacement phone (S8, Note 8, etc.) becomes available and then turning in the loaner for the better phone. Anyway... anyone else going to chance it and just keep on using their Note 7?

I really like the phone. But, it's not worth risking my life and property for.
Just got my replacement in the mail last Thursday. It's been working just fine. Doesn't get hot or anything with heavy use. I'm going to continue using my revised note 7 till they try to force me to deactivate it
Ive had a rough time getting a replacement, so ive been looking into the pixel xl or just snag a nexus 6p for cheap. Its not worth risking to me.

I'm going to keep mine because I have not had any issues and do not want to get a new phone. This mostly due to how terrible the corporate sprint store near me is. I had to go into the store 3 times to get a replacement.
The only problem (aside from the whole catching fire thing) is I doubt they'll be working on any software updates for the Note 7 now. No Nougut for the Note 7?
Sent from my SM-N930P using Tapatalk
I really wish there were better options out right now I would switch in a heart beat. Unfortunately there's nothing even close out right now or coming out in the next few weeks. If they force us to move on I'll probably go with the v20 or 7 edge.

I upgraded from a Note 3 to a Note 7. I need a Note with Micro SD card slot. I went on Ebay today and bought the best Note 4 I saw as a backup plan. I still have the original recalled Note 7 and plan to keep it for now. But like kstephens98 said, it won't get updates. And who's gonna wanna continue development here? I think I'll probably use the Note 4 until (hopefully) the Note 8 comes out. I just hope I can still get a full refund if it comes down to that. There's no other new phone out there that I would be interested in.
there is no competition.
i'll hold it until they have another fixed batch or until the Note 8.

As much as this comment exactly describes how i feel i have to return the phone. This is the hsrdest decision. Even harder than returning the first one cause last tine i knew it would be conning back. But it is now giing to be gone forever.
The main reasons are these
1) the phone cost $900. If i keep it i cannot get a new one probably ever.
2) development Will be non existent.
3) no resale value at all in the rare chance i could afford another one.
4) my husband will refuse to let me keep it even if i wanted to ignore 1-3
I was hoping for a new batch but from what I've read Samsung has officially dropped the note 7 all together.
Out the money for my case and have a gear vr which i cannot use. THIS SUCKS

Just an FYI just got this tidbit from Sprint Chat:
"Daniel M:*You can check the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 with our Telesales team as the device is not available online and we are trying to get it back soon but any date is not confirmed."
was also confirmed by Telesales
If they get the note 5 back, I'd take that. I honestly don't think PHYSICALLY the note 7 is that different. On top of that, the Note 5 is honestly the best alternative. As sad as it is to say that a year old phone is the best alternative...it really, honestly is. I can deal without the USB-C, I can even deal with the lack of SD Card support(I haven't used an SD card in ages as long as there's a 64gb version). The water resistance would be nice...but after owning the S5, it was more.....convenient than anything. The "IF it drops in the water I don't have anything the worry about" feeling. I took underwater pics once just to say I did and could but....not like I'm gonna go swimming with that bad boy in my pocket lol.
Lastly, and most importantly for me, is the S-Pen. Unlike a good number of people, I actually use my....a lot. Which I find either people use it A LOT, or never lol. Anyway, if/when the Note 5 becomes available again, then I'll go back to that. But this Note 7 really was the PERFECT phone.
Water Resistance
S-Pen
AMAZIN screen to body ratio
iris scanner is way more functional than I anticipated
just the right about of edge on the screen
THE SCREEN PERIOD lol
the camera was near flawless in my opinion
everything about this phone......
If only Samsung wouldn't have rushed things. I think this phone would have beat out the iPhone anyway. Thing is, people who buy iPhones, buy iPhones. Getting them to switch is difficult because they're usually invested in apple products. iPads, Macbooks, lightning adapters, etc. People who buy Android phones are usually invested in it. Samsung people usually have Samsung Tablets, enjoy the gmail/google apps integration, enjoy the mass amount of free apps from the app store lol. This makes me want to cry lol
Went ahead and exchanged mine for an S7 Edge. It's a very nice phone too. Plus I didn't use the S-Pen like I thought I would.
In addition, Got two free gifts for my first note and my replacement note and now I've been approved for my S7 Edge. Three gifts, one purchase.
Anyone thinking of trading it in and doing the gift thing, sorry, it ended Oct 9th I believe.

ugh. I am going to call the corp guys tomorrow when I have time to ask what they are going to let me get away with. I am leaning like some others to the LG V20, but since it doesn't come out until the 28th it's outside a 15 day window. Would go without phone/phone payments and a Note 4 I pick up used for now if it meant using my upgrade later.
already sent my old phone back to them, as required to not get charged. So can't go back to that. After thinking about it, the S7 or S7E is a horrible choice since they will be replaced soon and then I'll be pissed I just got an old model.

I am going to keep using mine. There is NOTHING else that is even close to the Note 7. All of us who own the phone knows it is the sweetest one out there. I had considered the LG V20, but I would feel as though I had an inferior phone; judging by the reviews.
The reason I am here today is to root the phone to prevent Samsung from sending some type of kill update.
So I had to return my phone note 7 stupid recall. I got the s7 edge t mobile is it the best phone to get or wait for the v20 or something else thank you
I'm in the same boat.... I'm going with the S7 Edge... samsung pay and gear vr are things I don't want to go without... plus samsung oled screens are so good, i have a hard time using anything with an IPS screen.

Agreed. The Note 7 was great, and this is not so much.
A friend reminded me, too late, of the S6 Edge+. No water resist, no SD card, but bigger, faster, better sound than the S7 Edge. I have to have SD card, so I might not have gone that way, but it's a great phone for the money. Can be had on eBay for $300.
Seme here , I'm on s7 edge it's not to bad , I like it
S7 beats S6. I had both.

S7e isn't a bad phone. It's the note7 minus spen and iris scanner. The screen difference feels negligible in hand ( my s7e almost fit my n7 case perfectly...... )
I'm not happy with losing the n7 but T-mobile is taking care of me. I'm technically buying the s7e on installment but any money put towards the s7e will be applied to the n7 ( or n8 ) when it comes back out and I will be able to return the s7e regardless the time frame......since I was a pre-order and already had mine at launch.

I'm also a Note 7 refugee. While this wasn't my first choice it's not that bad. They also extended the promotion for the SD card and the VR headset. I'm ok till the Note 8 comes out.

They noted my account that this was a loaner phone that I'm paying on. I was one of the original pre orders who received my phone and had to bring it back a week later for the recall. I was given the option of waiting overnight for a Loaner to be shipped or buy something in store and have it credited on the first recall replacement n7. The first replacement which was supposed to take a few weeks never came. I called 611 frantic worried I'd be stuck with an expensive phone I didn't want. They said my account was noted this was a replacement and a temporary device only due to the recall and even if it took a year I was safe to return it for a full refund ( or apply the refund to another phone ).

Try and get an S7 Edge now. On back order until November. I ordered last week and it states it shipped but it's been on its way to UPS going on 5 days now. I guess the little old lady with the broken hip is crawling to UPS.

When I took mine back for the recall, there was a 2 day window where they issued a loaner but had to mail it out. I'm guessing they ran out of loaners. I opted for option 2 because I couldn't wait overnight. Basically they returned the note7 and had me put the s7e on the EIP instead. During that window, they made a note on my account that this was a temporary loaner type device until the note7 was released again. Several weeks passed and I didn't get a call from my retailer. I went in and one of the reps said they were likely pulling all note7 and stopping sales..... he could overnight one for me but I'd likely have to return that one too. I said I'd wait for the issue to be resolved. Went home, called 611 and threw a fit because I don't want to be stuck with an $800 phone I didn't want. The customer service rep said he would feel the same way too and checked my account. He said that my s7e IS showing as a loaner device.
I then asked him what it the n7 isn't released after waiting a year. At that point the s7e would be halfway paid off ( $400 Ish applied to the EIP ). He said that because I paid for the s7e as a loaner that all money applied to it would be reimbursed / put towards a note 7 ( or comparable device ...such as a note 8 ). I specifically asked what if it took a year....and he said the account is noted and I have nothing to worry about.
The following day I went to my T-mobile retailer and spoke to the manager ( excellent at customer service by the way ). I told him I already knew about the 2nd recall and wanted him to confirm about the loaner s7edge I'm paying on. He went into the account notes and saw where the 611 rep noted whenever a replacement n7 ( or comparable device ) was available, the s7e would be fully refunded.
I breathed a sigh of relief. The manager did my preorder on my n7 so he was already aware of everything. As long as my account is noted I'm good to go he said regardless the time frame.
Hopefully he is still there at the same location a year from now so it's easier. Lol

i plan to order on the 15th or so
Don't think us Verizon folks have that option without paying off the device in full..
nope, not interested in any device with no hifi dac
though the new galaxy looks very nice!
Although the galaxy 8 seems very promising I rather not get into their ecosystem. I'm happy with v20, I'll wait to see what v30 will offer.
Nope. Not going back to horrendous samsung sound, screen burn like you read about and no odin or root likely.
no way in hell.
- bumped the price *higher* than the iPhone
- Samsung made no comment or commitment when it comes to battery life which makes you wonder why they wouldn't
- supposedly the phones are more bloated than ever with Samsung crapware
- runs 1080p out the gate (something that hasn't happened since the s5)
I too will wait for the v30 or note 8 whichever looks better. I'll stick with the v30 if the battery remains removable or I will switch to the note 8 if they go non removable.

Waiting for the V30 also interested in what HTC may have. Still haven't decided yet and I have quite a while as I can't jump till like November anyways. So honestly at this point none of the new devices matter to me as I'm quite happy with my device.
I have no interest in 2:1 aspect ratio.
9:16 or 10:16 is OK.
2:1 is too narrow.

yeah, and that too! :good:
Waterproofing is cool but i would much rather have the removable battery. I use my phone as a tool for work and i have never had luck with just a stock battery. My V20 with the Hyperion extended battery i'm at 50% by the time i get home. i don't have to worry about trying to charge it if i want to go out. My nexus 6p was my only attempt at a non removable battery. Never again unless the battery is 6000mAh+
I would love to - I had a Note 7 and traded in for this pos...but I'm going to wait for the Note 8.
I hate this phone, it barely passes for my daily driver... but its still unfortunately the best alternative right now for various reasons.
I'm continually amazed at how some people like this phone compared to the Pixel or any of the Sammy line.
LOL I had a V10 which I traded for the Note 7 and then another Note 7 and then an S7 edge. I could not wait to get back to LG and I love my V20. It is way better then the Samsung's, can't wait to see what the V30 brings.
I've already placed my JoD preorder for Orchid Gray

But i still dont know why is it so hard to create a device waterproof with removable battery. Samsung itself created one and new the have messed up so much! (talking about the galaxy s5 ). That just proof that it is possible to create a device with removable battery and waterproofing at the same time.
I was really expecting a huge deal with the s8. Kind of another small step. You know its gonna be locked down tight too. Better camera, little faster, still 4 gb ram. I don't see the benefits vs the cost over the v20 or the s7. Bixby? Already been done. There will be 10 phones out this year as good as this. This is just the first.
My jump is from AT&T to T Mobile. AT&T only offered to give me $190 (they had the highest selling price for the V20 of $829.99). What a drop off in price! T mobile offered only $100 per AT&T branded V20 (of which we have 2). We decided to keep our V20s and still go to T mobile (what amonthly savings) to get 2 S8 pluses. Meanwhile we have our AT&T V20s on the T mobile network. The down payment is $130 per S8 plus leading to 24 months at $30 per month to pay the balance.

Wow, TMobile is giving me $600 for a trade-in for the V20. Made it worthwhile to trade-in the V20 to the S8+.
You guys should wait for the Note 8. My speculation is that everything they could have put on the S8 is gonna be saved up for the note 8. Hopefully like dual cameras, fingerprint scanner embedded in the screen, s-pen, etc
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone on here is giving up their N7 for the S8+? Most specs look to be better, with the exception of the S-Pen of course.
Any idea when the N8 will be out? Though they did mention that they will be re-releasing the N7 as refurbs.
Debating about the S8+ at this point.
I love the N7, but who knows when the N8 will be out, so debating...
Called T-Mbile to find out if I still get a refund and they said YES 2 days ago. They said I would get back the downpayment/tax and whatever the monthly charges were up until the day when I called, so it came out to close to 400, but they said it would be in credits to the account, which I am fine with either way. Today I chatted with them online instead of calling, and they advised that the recall was finished and that refunds are no longer being given, but recommended I see a local store, so now I am not sure what to do.
I'll wait for the N8 and I think I heard people say the N8 would be out at the end of the year. Don't quote me on that.
If they are re releasing the N7. As long as it is still a beast of a phone like it was on original release. I will be happy with that. At a cheaper price of course. The pen spoiled me that's for sure
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
That is kind of what is holding me back, the lack of the S-Pen, but if you were to ask me how often do I use it, I'd say about 5 times since I got the phone in my hand haha
I like the luxury of having it if I need/want to use it, but do not find myself using it that much unfortunately.

I will head to the store today to see if I like the s8+ or not. the only thing really holding me back would be the fact that i wont be able to jump to the N8 when it comes out since it will be less than a year or 50% of the phone, so thats really the one and only thing. S8 is technically better in terms of specs I think. It is a bit more narrow but bigger screen, but no s-pen.
Eh, decisions, decisions lol
You'll get your credit, only thing is if you were in Jump on Demand then it gets voided and you have to start a different jump program.
It sucks, I didn't wanna have to get rid of JOD. I'm debating if I want to or not now.

Yep, I was thinking of that too, but I was originally on Jump 2.0 and did not want to switch to JoD. I dont remember the reasoning why I DIDNT want to switch, but i'm fine with J2.0 because I only jump ones a year either way to the next best samsung lol
Note 7 to Galaxy S8+ Jump on Demand
I've been a lurker on XDA until now; I will describe my time with the Note 7 and switch to the (pre-ordered) S8+.
I obtained my Note 7 shortly after it was released a second time. Confident that the batteries were fine despite allegations of a second round of explosions, I decided to keep my device. I downloaded (and pointedly resisted updating) EZ Disabler Pro, and promptly disabled updates as users on this forum warned of upcoming updates that would limit battery life, and functionality. The app and update restrictions have been in place since November 2016; therefore I still possess a Note 7 device which charges to 100% and more or less performs the way it was intended to at the time of release.
I use my S-Pen constantly. Smart Select is a tool I use multiple times, every day, and I will be quite sad to let it go as I upgrade to the Galaxy S8+. However, having a supported device which will receive updates and is not banned on commercial aircraft is worth the trade in until the Note 8 pops in October of this year.
T-Mobile has made the transition difficult. Any time I call about billing issues or service agreements, representatives ask me about the Note 7 and seem to be unable to process requests on my line because of the phone's status as a recalled device. The first time I called into to pre-order the Galaxy S8+ and trade in my Note 7 through Jump on Demand, I was refused. The representative informed me that I would be unable to complete this trade in due to the Note 7's status, and that I must continue through a standard Jump upgrade, which would put me on an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP). I firmly believe in technology leasing due to the financially unfeasible process of owning the latest devices, and was not willing to take the EIP route. Instead, I ended my call with T-Mobile and decided to do some research on the JoD lease.
In my research I found that as a lessee, I do not own my Note 7. The Note 7 belongs to T-Mobile, and they must take it back and continue my program with a new phoneas long as the trade in device meets the physical requirements for return. (My phone is in mint condition) I also found that pre-orders are covered under JoD, and then was confused as to why I was being refused.
After learning this, I called T-Mobile again, in the early morning hours (I'm in EST US) at about 2am. Turns out that standard customer service representative in the US are just lazy and unwilling to do research. My rep was based in the Philippines and while she initially had responses very similar to earlier reps I had spoken to, upon being asked direct questions about my JoD lease, she took the time (spent about 75 mins on the phone with her) to look through documentation, click through menus on her employee terminal and find the option of continuing my JoD lease, and pre-ordering the S8+ through that portal.
TLDR;
If you're being told that you can't continue JoD because you have a Note 7 and would like to trade in for the S8(+), ask direct questions about your lease until the reps stop being bums and actually go through the documentation. IT IS POSSIBLE TO PRE-ORDER THE S8+ ON JoD COMING FROM A NOTE 7. They will take the first opportunity to hand you off to another rep or force you through the method that they are most familiar with. Keep in mind, newer reps may not know anything about JoD since the program has long been unavailable to new customers. Foreign reps in my experience (whether it be for billing issues, accidental charges, line adjustments, etc) seem to care more your situation/satisfaction than the average US rep.
P.S:
Be warned, JoD is no longer available to new or existing customers. If you leave JoD now, it will not be possible to get back on such a lease. JoD lessees are grandfathered to the program.

I own my Note 7 outright, paid in full. I have no intentions of getting the S8, I'll wait for the next Note. I do, however, intend to return my Note 7 for a full refund and get the Note 8 without having to pay too much more. I'd love to have somebody at Magenta try to tell me the recall is over. Fact is, it is not! There is no expiration date and they can't invent one!

I recently took the plunge and finally returned my note 7. No T-Mobile stores I went to would accept it saying the recall had expired, smh. I eventually ended up doing the return through Samsung and got a better deal. Phone and 2 cases plus the extra $25 from Samsung netted me back $999. I'll gladly take that in a check than credits from T-Mobile.

Like the other carriers they were compensated by Samsung for all Note 7's. That's money they intend to keep, Magenta can be scandalous! Since mine is paid in full it won't go down that way when I return mind, I'll make sure if it!

I've been instructed to return my Note7 at a store within two weeks of receiving my new device. I just got the S8+ some 12-13 hours ago. I have not yet returned the Note7.
I'm currently in possession of both the S8+ and the Note7. They're quite similar actually; I think the upgrade is far more dramatic from the S7 or even the S7 edge.

I'm using both phones(N7 & s8+). Let me make it a short and sweet. S8+ is pretty much like the N7. Both phones pretty much has same software and exterior, except s8+ is a bit taller(more screen real estate). You obviously missing out the mighty s-pen from N7. Look at the pic below, the N7 sits almost perfectly inside the s8+'s wallet case. For those whom still has the N7, IMO just keep it and wait until the N8.
