Dear XDA,
So I rooted my Asus Nexus 7 back when I got it with cyogenmod back in the day. It stopped working due to it dying and would not charge. So after a miracle and being plugged in for three days it would work. Now when its battery died it would not power on or charge at all. If I plug it in to the charger, my screen shows nothing but I can see the screen backlight so it is doing something. If I try to open the bootloader with the PWR and the volume rockers pressed the screen would flicker but won't show the android mascott with the gear's at all!! I was planning on upgrading to an unoffcial andriod 6.0 rom and run some linux on it. Is my device really dead?
It could be the battery reached its end of life or an I eternal short happened in it. I had a droid 4 that did the exact same thing. The bootloader checks the state of the battery and won't go past initializing the screen if it detects an issue

My Nexus 7 turned off after my battery died and I couldn't get it to turn on anymore. I've tried the power+volume buttons combo and opening the cover to unplug the battery (left it unplugged overnight) and there's still no sign of life. No download mode. No charging animation. I've already plugged it in for over 24h in total with the original charger and the top left corner always warms up but I'm not sure if it's charging.
This is not the first time it has happened but the last time it revived after I used the original charger to charge. That time, the Samsung Note2 charger warmed up the device too but when it finally turned on when I used the original charger, the battery was 0%. I would send it back for servicing but I have already rooted the device, which means the warranty is void. Is there any way to revive my device or unroot it if I couldn't get into download mode (power+vol down button doesn't work)?
why would it be bricked for simple battery dying
if you think the battery is dead get another one and see if it's solved
Your device is hibernating to prevent further damaging the battery. Plug it in... boot to bootloader... select power off using the volume keys... the tablet will now charge normally

Thanks but if you read my post, I said I've tried the button combo and it didn't work
Mmm... this isn't sounding too good, I'm afraid... if you've tried all these [REF] Nexus 7 Button Combinations... and there is no battery charger animation when you plug in - it sounds ominously like a hard-brick.
If that is indeed the case, there's not much that can be done... except, perhaps, see if you can RMA it with Google/Asus.

Nexus 7 won't charge. Possibly fried.
My nexus did the same thing, it has to do with the power save feature. I googled the issue, after charging with the original charger for about an hour . I used the hold the power button, for a good 2-......

Connecting your N7 to your PC and hearing only a ding means you're probably in APX mode with a corrupted bootloader. Download the universal APX drivers to confirm this. Unfortunately, if you're in APX mode without previously-generated nvflash blob files, you're up the creek without a paddle. No one has recovered an NVidea device from a corrupted bootloader without nvflash, and darn few have done it, period!
I had to replace my N7's motherboard to get it wotking again.
My Nexus 7(2012) 16 gb appears dead. Was on CM11 with TWRP recovery.
Here's what happened :
I was using my N7, the screen froze for a second while scrolling on the browser.
After that a dead black line appeared permanently in the middle of the screen(horizontal).
I figured it might just be the case of dead pixels.
I continued using it like that only.
After a few weeks of usage, now the device won't power up at all.
When i connect to the wall charger, i just get a back light. No display. Nothing.
I tried booting into recovery, but nothing appears on the screen.
I kept it charging for few hours, but no luck.
It only flickers when connected to charger. Disconnecting the charger causes no activity what so ever on the device.
Nothing happens if i connect it to computer via usb.
Any solutions i can try?
Press & Hold the power button for at least 10 seconds while plugged into a power source. If no signs of life after completing the above step my first thought would be a faulty board..
Its just a black blank screen.

Well, I would hate to be the bearer of bad news but it appears your device had a critical failure and is now dead... Obvious answer right? HaHa
RIP Nexus :crying:
You can always try and leave it to charger for a day and see if you get some life to your nexus. I had similiar thing with my nexus, I was actually booting new ROM and then it did some flickering and got blacked out. After connecting to charger nothing happened, just random flickering. I was able to recover and get it back in bussiness when I woke up next morning (it had been charging over night). This was almost a year ago and atm I'm writing this with the same particular device. So give it a shot again, you might still get it back to work. Also you could try to boot the device to fastboot mode by pressing power+volume buttons at the same time for a while. Good luck, let me know if you were able to get it boot&work again!
You could also try popping the back off and make sure the ribbon cables for the display are seated properly. While your there check the battery cable.
My Nexus 4 was running stock android (ver. 5.1.1.) and was not rooted and had never been sent for any service repairs of any kind. After I had bought an OnePlus One, I gradually stopped using my Nexus and allowed it's battery to completely drain out. Now after a gap of a few months I tried booting up my Nexus ( after adequately charging it of course) but it just would not boot up despite repeatedly holding down the power button for long durations. The surprising thing was the phone was displaying the standard charging animation while connected via USB to a power source. I tried booting into the bootloader but the phone did not respond. By "not responding", I mean even the backlight did not come on . I think the fault may lie with the power button itself but am not sure. I have some imp data on the device so I absolutely need to access it.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
We all know that since the stock marshmallow update everything has gone mad with the note 4.
My situation was when I was going home i had 52% battery and it kept discharging so fast that around 20% it just turned off.
After i got home for about 2 hrs, i tried charging the phone and it wasnt charging and was not turning on. No vibrations no anything.
So i decided to borrow a friend's note 4 to use its battery on my device, thinking that my battery was just damaged. But again it did not power on.
Tried connecting the phone to adb after pressing long to the power button and still cannot be detected.
Is this bricking due to the marshmallow update? And if so, how do you fix this problem?

Does it boot to download mode?
I'd take your device to a Samsung Service Center and let them take a look at it.

Have a look under the thread "Note keeps freezing and restarting" there's a lot of information there! I am using the app mentioned on the "partial wake lock" option and so far it seems to be OK!
