OP has a good point, you can't just dismiss his arguments just because Samsung sucks.
The point OP is trying to make is that at least the Note series offers more diversity than the Galaxy S counterparts, whereas the Nexus 6 is just a bigger version of the Moto X (with almost identical specs) and almost no phablet benefits.

Sure, it looks like a bigger Moto X. Specs wise though it isn't. Higher res screen, bigger battery, better camera with OIS, stereo speakers (only 1on the X), and that's what I can remember from the top of my head. If someone is trying to justify not purchasing it for some reason, fine. However, don't just call it a bigger X

Higher resolution and bigger battery is expected with a bigger phone. Nothing special. Nothing to differentiate it from moto X apart from the size.

Now I guess the only other argument someone can make is the lack of phablet-unique tools/features. But at this point it depends on how Android Lollipop will handle phablets.

Completely wrong.
It's not just bigger. Unlike the 2nd Gen Moto X, the Nexus 6 has:
OIS
3 GB ram (vs. 2 GB on Moto X)
64 GB storage option (32 GB max on Moto X)
Bigger battery (that will do much more than just compensate for the larger screen)
It covers more LTE bands (such as band 12 for T-Mobile, which the 2nd Gen Moto X is missing) and is more of a true global phone.

I have to add that I just came from motorolas version of a nexus being the Moto x pure and I immediately had way more interest when i got my hands on the N5x.
Regardless of the Moto x specs 21mp cam and ram .... I get better pic quality by far even with only a 12.2 mp camera better keyboard response better feel with screen size more unique development and mods available and easier root etc...
Anyone agree coming from a Moto x ?

I was switching the devices too and I'm far more "impressed" by the N5x, than I was when I unboxed my Moto X Style/Pure. Impressive Cam, very light, perfect size (at least for me), the battery stats (getting up to 6 SoT with Custom Kernel and deactivated encryption). I'm pretty happy with the switch and I'm not regretting it one bit.

Switched from moto x pure to N5X 3 week's ago. Was a bit hesitant because of the smaller battery and the 2gb ram on it. Somehow everything on the N5X feels right... The camera, the fingerprint sensor, the size and weight. I bought the moto x thinking I was done with rooting and modding my phone's but I was wrong. I enjoy playing with it too much and the dev support on the moto was just not strong enough for me. Indeed moto display does work better but then again...the N5X does have a LED on it. Getting 4 to 5hrs SOT on both phones and no lag so far....I'm really happy I made the switch!
Nexus 5X V Moto X Pure
I was considering between the two and decided to go with the 5X mainly because of the screen size and Nexus branding. Although, I was really on the fence about it because of the Moto X's superior memory (3GB vs 2GB) and video stabilization. In the end I am glad to hear the opinion of someone who has had experience with both #TeamNexus
I also sold my 2015 Moto X Pure Edition for the Nexus 5X. I would have probably kept it if it weren't for the size. Moto Display is better than Ambient Display, but they both suck on LCD screens. All of the Moto features were quite nice and added more value to the phone than most ROM features (IMO). It was near prefect but was too big and heavy for me. I probably wont ever own another "Moto" phone now that Motorola is now dead.
FWIW, before I got my smart watch I enjoyed a feature on Light Manager that would wake the screen up whenever I got a notification.
I've gone back an forth between both devices a few times and here are my thoughts. Battery life on the moto X is better. The Moto does not have input lag, where it can make the 5x at times very frustrating to use. You can certainly feel the difference that extra gig of ram makes. The nexus has the far superior camera and usability from a size stand point. I love the size and weight of the 5x. For me, in the end it was the moto x. I like the expandable memory and smooth operation of the device. The moto features are also a huge plus for me as I drive a lot in my job. Hope this helps.

In terms of camera quality, no processor overheating + a balanced performance and battery life which one would you guys choose?
Which one also has a louder speaker than the other?
And which one has a camera lens that doesn't scratch easily?
iphone6s price wise very expensive - low ram / single sim / no sdcard
MotoG5, very good speakers, good performance, overheats, battery drain high over 4g, nice stockrom to enjoy daily interactions/ snapdragon430
XperiaX, low speaker volume, very good performance, never lags, overheats sometimes, moderate batter drains over 4g. powerful stockrom offers amazing features / snapdragon650

I would give the answer in a diplomatic way!
If today as Xperia X user i am given a choice to buy between the 3 devices you asked.
I would buy Sony X again!
with all its other flaws , X looks amazing in hand the screen is pure and vibrant that in night the icons seems like floating. touch sensor is highly sensitive and unlocks even before my thumb touches the powerbutton. the camera is amazing!

The X has better camera (mostly due to OIS).
The X also has a better screen.
The X has more sensors, however the g5+ has fewer senors but it uses them better (moto actions and gestures).
The X looks better than the g5+
The G5+ has a better fingerprint scanner (but both are good).
The G5+ has fingerprint scanner gestures for navigation.
The battery life on G5+ is better. The G5+ does not over heat at all.
The G5+ is smoother than the X (overall performance) but both are pretty smooth.
G5+ camera probably scratches easier (so use a case)
G5+ speakers are louder (and headphone jack louder)
If you want a premium experience (almost flagship) you might want to go for the X.
If you are a social media junky, then you might need long battery life and should go for the g5+ (3gig or 4gig model).
Both phones are fantastic.

I guess you already have made up your mind, but here is my addition: The xperia x's speakers aren't of high volume, (you can't hear well if the place has lots of people or noise) but for a phone's speaker (dual-tone btw) I love how it sounds. Though, in order to get the most out of it it obviously needs to be placed on a flat surface. After quite some time, the lens haven't got a single scratch. The only complaints I have for the XX is the paint around the phone (where the buttons are). I'm not a wreckless user and it has a couple of marks (paint woren off). The screen is also a bit more scratch-prone than you would expect, get it a screen protector

Have seen reviews of the G5 Plus and they all seem to have common themes:
Photos seem a bit bland & poor low-light photos
Multitasking & app loading is near abysmal as apps load constantly and doesn't load quick enough

Photos are definitely not bland... I'll take a couple with both phones and post here for comparison. That said, Ive been pleased with the pictures the G5+ takes. Apps load very quickly on both phones, and if you get the 3/4 Gig version they stay in memory. The G5+ is a very very snappy phone.
I haven't had the x for long. This is just my general opinion. The general feel for the G5 + is that it is the best midrange phone, and I can say I agree with this statement. Anyway, photos to come.

So, 9 out of 10 written reviews and video reviews are either liars, trolls or paid to give negative reviews?
I need evidence photos taken in good light (outdoor), indoors (natural or artificial), low-light & night shots are better than the previous gen. I have yet to see a video that has some sort of EIS which again reviewers (& Moto) doesn't say has.
The UK only has the 3GB model and I'm quite concerned that again as per the videos Ive seen apps DO NOT stay in memory and they reload all the time which is a sign of poorly optimised software and poor memory management.
Ill post some photos tonight or tomorrow. Still won't make much of a difference. The X takes better pictures than the Moto G5+.
I know some reviews panned the G5+ for its camera. Others praised it. It is more than sufficient for the price in my opinion. Yes, the rear camera does seem to have EIS, motorola's product web page say it does also. It works OK, the X's works a little better.
Just a realistic run-down:
The G5+ on amazon is selling for 179 pounds . You only have the choice of 16Gigabytes which stinks, but you do get 3gigs of RAM.
Battery life will be better, pictures are sufficient and no its not the best in low light, but it gets the job done. Screen is plenty bright, the device is plenty snappy and Ive personally never seen an app reload. [Disclaimer, 4Gig/64Gig model here]. I'm not a social media junky. Need more internal memory? Buy a quick read/write rated micro sd card and use Nougat's adaptive storage option. A good micro Sd card costs 30 pounds. You don't have the option to do this on the Xperia X (out the box - you can enable it).
The Sony Xperia X is selling for 293 pounds in black -- ( more if you chose the other color options).. That's more than 100 pound premium over the G5+, but you get 32Gig of storage, a better camera, a sleeker package , a better but but smaller screen and a hit on battery life.
Now i wont be able to convince you that the G5+ is a better phone, but for the price and my use it is better. I bought mine for $299. My Xperia X can be had at $250 if I look around enough. The X @ $250 is a fantastic deal. the G5 model I have @ $299 is just as great a deal.\

You're taking about adding an external micro sd card. I'm taking adding to the internal memory size (where you store actual applications). Both phones support adding external microsd cards. Moto g5+ will let you do adaptive storage. Google: Android adaptive storage

Ohh I see. That's nice. Tho you can do that to your SD card too in XX (Merge it with internal storage) if I remember correctly there was an option for this in settings.

If the Xperia X had a bigger screen then I would by it in a heartbeat. I find the 5.2" (or more) to be a sweet spot in terms of holding the phone, screen real estate, etc. But I still can't seem to shake off those other issues of the G5+.

Honestly .2 inches of real-estate isn't that much. The G5+ took some nice pictures indeed, so did the Sony X. I would say the Sony X is a tad more reliable in better pics in first shot. The G5+ will require that you hold the phone still for low light pics which can be problematic, but the shutter speed is more or less the same. Its not Samsung Galaxy low light performance... but it is fine for most people.

Really, for 0,2 inches? The xperia X is very nice to hold and surprisingly it seems when you are holding it that it isn't only 5 inches. I did compare it to an other ☓peria phone with a bigger screen (5,2 or 5,5?) and honestly the difference was incredibly minor. I wanted to go for bigger too, but this phone has a very appealing size
Balanced choice would be the xperia x, but if you want performance, consistent camera (video and stills), and a good investment you can't go wrong with the 6s; it's a beast (used to own it as my main phone and I still miss it)
So who all's planning to buy the OnePlus 5? What do you think of the recent leaks and rumors?
If it has 5.5" - 6" FHD display with a bezeless design without 2.5D glass, a dezent battery (3600mAh+) and headphone jack i will buy it.

I am worried about the rumours talking about this version being among the thinnest phones on the market. If this is true then based on recent trends it usually means a smaller battery. This will certainly be a deal breaker for me assuming this is true...

Depends if it has a 1440P screen. I don't want them to go 1080P pentile again. I have a 3T I just got so I'm not in a big hurry. The snapdragon 835 isn't a huge increase in speed over the snapdragon 821.
Oh so very close to buying it. Depends slightly on specs, and more if the Bank of Wife™ will finance it for Fathers day
I'd buy it if they have astounding results with it. The camera leaks sound great, larger battery 3600+ should be ok (i have confidence in them increasing the battery because they stuffed 400mAh into the same size chassis for the 3t i think they can do more), 1080p AMOLED screen, Snap 835 or 850, alert slider again, awesome fingerprint scanner like the 3t even the same one would be perfect no complaints there, good speaker or speakers dont care where they are as long as they arent on the back, stronger vibraton motor AND that headphone jack better stay put. If it doesnt i wont mind, i use my bluetooth headphones more anyways. If its under 500 or at 500 ill buy it.

Waiting to see if they add a better DAC/AMP combo the Axon 7 Audio was no joke for it's price if OP can improve it for the OP5 I'll pick it up
I'm considering it. I'll have to take a look at the final product and if it's killer I'll go for it. It'd have to really be an upgrade from the OnePlus 3. If the differences are not that big then it won't be worth the buy.

I came to oneplus from the Note 7 and I'm likely to get the Note 8 when it comes out. I"m keeping my eye on this one as runner up in case the international Note 8 cant be rooted.

Agree with everyone here! I don't mind if the phone comes with an FHD screen because I really don't see any difference between FHD and QHD. As long as they keep it affordable, there will definitely be a purchase from me.

Owning a Nexus 6P right now.
And I am considering the S8, Xperia XZ, Pixel Xl and Op5.
I have used a Op2 before and loved it, hope this is even better.
I previously owned a G4 which I had to sell due to the bootloop issues. Then I went on to Huawei Honor 8 (my current phone) which has the poorest official update, root, twrp, cROM support I've ever seen in my life.
My needs are: Good camera, good performance, decent battery life.
My questions are:
Does the G6 have good XDA support?
Does it have good custom ROMs?
How hard is unlocking,rooting,flashing twrp?
How hard is the unbricking process? (Asking this bcz despite all the ****s of my Honor 8, it had a good unbricking process which made taking risks easier)
Note: My budget is limited, the only other options within my budget are: Pixel, OP3t, S7 (all of which are very old).

Well, G6 is the most underated phone of the last year, even this year can beat some called "high ends" but to answer your questions:
* Yes, the support for this phone is normal, not huge, not big but you have some development for this phone, some ROM's and Kernels.
* Already answered.
*You need to visit LG Bootloader Unlock page to see what variants of G6 can be unlock, not everyone can be so, be aware first.
*Unbrick is the same as previous models (G4, G5, V10, V20 etc) most needed is Uppercut or LG Bridge to solve the most common issues with this device, wich if you dont mess a lot then you wont have any problem.
You find all Answers in the Forum, when you already open your Eyes in the G6 Forum, LOL.
But for Customisation (root, unblock ...) its pretty hard, only less Variants of the G6 you can unblock and fill with a Custom Rom.
But the Phone itself has a good Battery and Performance

Tnx for the answer. Which variant would you suggest me to get? In my experience, every phone has a variant that's more common and popular than the others.

i dont know what country you live but if you are from Europe you should get the H870 (not DS wich are Dual Sim, that model dont allow Bootloader Unlock). If you are from US you should buy a US997.
I dont know more variants who can be unlocked at the moment.
Dont opt for the G6. H870DS model has 64GB storage, quad DAC and wireless charging. Some models don't come with all these features. Instead, go for a Nokia or a Xiaomi smartphone instead. Nokia 7 Plus seems to be making a lot of ripples. Or wait for the Nokia X6 instead.
From personal experience, I can tell you this for a fact that LG G6 is a good phone with great performance capabilities, but in order to get that level of performance, you'll need to dive into all the options (gimmicks), like switching off the game battery saver and the LDB from the hidden service menu.
The company software support is a total zombie apocalypse!
Don't fall into the bandwagon, go through the benchmark scores of the phone enticing you and compare it with some competition to know better and make the right call.
It is a best value for money smartphone. You have just to compare its characteristics to others, in order to realize it. Its a flagship smartphone, built in with quality micro devices. Its price has fallen unpredictable and it's good time to buy it. LG service (in Europe) is excellent and immediate. I have tried it. I own a LG G6 (H870).
The dev support for this phone exists, but is very very minimal, since only two versions of this phone are bootloader unlockable.
Custom ROMs are available also, but any AOSP rom isn't going to be able to use the stock camera capabilities. This is a problem with most LG phones I believe, and was the same on my G3.
I'm using stock because the custom roms I've seen aren't 100% functional. Also you're not going to have many apps to customize stock like we did with G3 Tweaksbox for example.
For my US997, Unlock and Root was very straightforward, similar to my Nexus 6P, except you have to get an unlock file from LG's website. (as others have said, you must buy the correct model G6)
I bought this phone because it's a quality phone with a great camera, can root, unlock bootloader, headphone jack, perfect size and has an SD card slot which was important to me. But coming from the Nexus 6P and even the G3 before that, the lack of dev support for this phone is very frustrating.
This phone's stock roms won't let you encrypt data while it's rooted, which means if I lose my phone, anyone who knows how to boot into TWRP can access all of my data.
Because we don't have apps like G3 Tweaksbox or anything similar, you can't do basic stuff like disable the loud volume warning with your headphones on. (This is possible btw, but without a guide idk how to do it)
Overall I'm happy with this phone but if I broke it or lost it right now, I'm not sure I'd buy another one.
I love my G6, H870, rooted and xposed. I can change all I want using Gravity box for Oreo, that is listed as not compatible but it works good. Only thing I miss is dev support...
But....
If I have to buy a phone today looking for tomorrow...
I'll choose xiaomi and 845 chipset.... And treble support... Like a mi mix 2s, or if I can't afford it, a mix 2, about 300 euro..

Siggey, do you have a recommendation for a phone that works on all 4 carriers (G6 US997 doesn't support Sprint calling), has memory slot and can be rooted with some dev support

with Sprint you have to have an approved IMEI in order to pair the phone with the SIM ICCID and MIN...so even though the Mi Mix 2 should support Sprint, Sprint won’t allow you to use it unless they whitelist it in the store...which is tough to get I hear. Sprint is different from Verizon...Verizon doesn’t block unapproved phones (except during SIM activation) but Sprint in effect does so.
But I'm in europe and I don't know anything about the usa carriers, so I'm sorry I can't help you.

Does the G6 have a good camera? Sort of. Front-facing camera is a little bit disappointing, but it's not an issue if you don't take selfies. The two cameras at the back are alright, but you're gonna have to use a custom build of GCam for better results.
Good performance? Overall, yeah. Not much I can say here. The built-in gaming settings allow you to change the resolution of games to favor either performance or graphics, if that's your cup of tea.
In terms of battery life, I can get 4-5 hours SoT using instagram a lot and LTE for the majority of the day with music playing in the background. Good enough for me.
Those other options you said you could afford are probably better, though.
I wouldn't recommend it really. LG's quality control is terrible (the fingerprint scanner keeps failing), and their software is always nearly a year late and pretty unstable, aesthetically not to my taste, and doesn't fully support substratum.
Performance, especially in graphics, seems far weaker and unreliable in real world usage than other flagships that have the same chipset. For example, the Google Pixel 2016 can run real racing 3 at default graphics reasonably fluently. G6 on the other hand is almost unplayable at default settings, even at 1080p resolution.
The display however is gorgeous. Blacks look like from an Amoled display, it's reasonably bright and quite saturated. I just wish it was 1080p by design, for performance, brightness and battery gains. I don't notice a drop in visual quality when I use the adb command to change it to 1080p, and that's taking pixel interpolation into account. 1440p is really not necessary, and VR doesn't count because the IPS LCD technology introduces high motion blur in a VR situation compared to amoled.
I continue to love the design of the phone as well, and it's super tough. Drop onto concrete from shoulder height unprotected (oops) gave it no more than a scuff or two. Personally I would have made the top bezel as wide as the bottom bezel but whatever. Just means that 16:9 games and videos are offset to the side which is distracting for me.
TLDR: Don't let that screen to body ratio lure you in. It makes no difference. There are better options for the price these days.

If buying used (in very good condition), would you still say it is mediocre value for money? Assuming it is at least 25-35% cheaper than retail. And I would be coming from a G2 (running 7.1.2 and running it well).

My opinion of the phone has improved slightly since I wrote this, a factory reset improved its performance and fluidity a fair bit. Personally, right now I would get a Xiaomi mi A2 for $250 which is about how much you can get a used G6 for, just due to that clean software. However, the G6 is not bad for that price. Just make sure you factory reset it after installing all the available updates including oreo. And be prepared for graphics performance significantly weaker than other 821 phones, don't know why.
If you intend on playing anything that's more graphically-intense than Minecraft, I suggest you steer away from this phone. Game performance is so sloppy that Cytus II - a 2D game, mind you - can't even run at full speed.
Selfie camera makes you look like a painting. Back cameras are decent from my experience.
Battery life is alright, but you're gonna have to do a lot of weird stuff to make it last a day. Also, my iPhone 5s, which I had laying around since it was released in 2013, can last longer on standby, which says a lot.
In terms of custom rom support, I can't tell you a thing because my variant can't be bootloader unlocked.
I do not recommend this phone. Having had this phone for a year now, I have legitimate grounds to give my opinion on it. Get anything else.
TL;DR: Phone can't play graphically-intense games. Selfie camera sucks. Battery sucks. Don't buy.

The rear has dual cameras, one of them being wide angle 12mm. That's so wide it has a slight fish eye effect. The single front camera is wide angle 18mm, very wide for a front camera. They both take great shots, especially with the GCam ports.
Both cameras on the rear are flat, there is no camera 'bump'. Read any of the original reviews, they rave about the cameras. Shocking to see negative comments about the cameras. For the money, especially today prices, probably one of the best camera setups available.

I am not kidding. I never was, never will be. You can have your opinion, and I'll have mine. Was something lost in translation? If it's me you're referring to, I only said the selfie camera sucks. In my post I said, "The back cameras are decent from my experience."
The selfie camera is not good. At least mine isn't. I don't know if there are any differences between models in different countries. Even in the best of lighting, it still pales in comparison to the G4, which I had before this device.
