Hi everyone,
Yesterday I accidentally dropped my Note 3 into the toilet. I just flushed the toilet by the way
Pulled it out as fast as I could and dried it. Switched it off and took it apart. Clicked of the backcase and battery and also removed the motherboard. The water that got inside was very minimal.
Everything works except my s-pen. My Note regonizes it when I remove the pen and a memo pops up.
When I hover my pen above the screen normally a small circle should be visible but nothing happens. Even when I touch the screen nothing happens. Strange enough my pen works on my Samsung Note 10.1
When I enter my Note 3 into the testmode (with code *#0*#) I have two tests:
- SPEN HOVERING
- TSP HOVERING
The first one does not work but the TSP hovering test does.
I already have reset my Note 3 to factory default but without any results.
What could be wrong with my Note 3? Is it only the pen or something else. Is it software or hardware related?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just wondering if anyone else is have this problem. My s pen starts writing from about half an inch from the screen which make sit hard to to write a neat note. A while back i downloaded a smemo.apk for 240 dpi and that when it seem to start doing it I have tried a full flash of stock rom but still doing it.
It happened to me too, Samsung said that it's because some S-pens have trouble on its sensor. You can ask Samsung to change S-pen for you, change until the problem is gone xD. That's what i do with mine.
Ok i thought it might be somethimg like that I ordered one from ebay the other day. thanks
try disabling auto rotation..
and choose again which dominant hand in pen setting..
if you used magnet case it would affect the s pen sensor too..
Your pen is bad, a few of these threads have poped up. With a working pen you can take your fingernail and push in the tip and it will work like yours is, from far, yours is just stuck in.
You can try and take it apart (there is a post around here with instructions) and reset the tip in the rubber grommet it sits in if returning it is a issue.
Touch Screen Tune
I use Touch Screen Tune (for Galaxy note) to fine tune the pen.
And it became much better.

The tip of your s-pen is pushed in and stuck, which makes the pen think you are pushing against the Note. Not sure how to get it unstuck, but that's definitely the issue. It's happened to a couple of people.

I also have the same problem..some guy posted a video on youtube as well..its a faulty spen...
Hi All.
Funny enough i have similar issue. My pen from time to time is oversensitive. I have been playing with it to check when and how does it happens. And i discovered that my spen has an allergy on me. I mean its me or my static charge is affecting it. Whenever i had such an issue i had to touch somethin metal or somebody to discharge myself. Or just put phone on the table. Whenever i broke circuit (i havent touch phone with both hands) or i disperse my charge spen started working again.
If you have such an issue try this out or even pass the phone to somebody else to check if the issue still stays with somebody else. I have been in touch with Samsung and they offered me a new spen so when it arrives i will check this out.
I got the same problem yesterday, i bring my note to SC and the customer service just laugh on me and told me may be my note is the new note 2 because it can hover
Anyway they replace it free of charge, thanks samsung
Oversensitive SPen means that a coil broke inside your pen, whice alterates the internal capacitance. Must be careful when carrying your pen, avoid drop it to the ground and so on...
I have the following Android Device:
Samsung Note 3
Model No: SM-N9005
Android version: 4.4.2
Build No. KOT49H.N9005XXUGNJ2
Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 3
Issue: The S-Pen fails to get any input on the screen. I have tried & noticed the following:
1) S-Pen detachment notification works when taken out.
2) Air View options pops up when pen is detached.
3) Air view options work when pressed with finger but not with S-Pen.
4) S-Pen works fine with other Note 3 devices
5) Other S-Pen does not work on my device
6) Made sure the S-Pen features are enabled under the settings. Tried enable/disable as well.
7) Tried the following testing using *#0*#
a) TSP Hovering: Works fine with the finger & the S-Pen(as a trial)
b) Wacom Test: Doesnt detect the S-Pen input at all.
c) SPEN Hovering: Doesnt detect the S-Pen input at all.
8) Tried to tighten up the screw within the S-Pen as a trial although it works with other Note 3 devices, however, it didnt work !
9) Did a Reboot as well!
10) The phone does not have any magnetic case either! FYI
11) Tried changing the nib with the new ones as well!
Could anybody suggest a work around for this problem? I am not sure if a factory reset can solve the problem, has anybody got that working after a factory reset?
I have all my data synced with the my google account, so with a factory reset, would it be restored back once signed it back on the phone? Will the Apps get uninstalled as well?? Do you think it is possible to re-install the S-Pen SDK or something?
Please advise!
Thanks
Pierre

Try running The self diagnostic mode and test the phones screen.
self diagnostic mode - *#7353#
check if the spen is working on that.

If that's the case then your spen has gone bad. The way the spen works is there is a coil behind the screen and the spen draws power wireless from this coil.
This kinda makes it sure for the problem to be hardware problem not software.
One of two things could have gone bad.
1. The coil itself
2. Or your s pen is not able to take the wireless power..
If you have a friend who has the note 3 then try using his or her spen on your phone. .. That would be a good way to find out if your spen is bad or the coil thing.

Is the coil covered under warranty?

Sorry if its the coil. Think that may be expensive.
Not sure how much the new coil thingy will cost you and not sure if its a part of the device screen...
If it is a part of the screen then they will probably replace the screen.
The sPen costs about 50 $ I think.
If you are under warranty and you have not rooted or done anything with the device Samsung should repair this problem without charging you but can never be sure..
Did you drop the device or something before getting this issue ??
Hi what's up I'm asking 4 some help... my Samsung galaxy note 3.... ofter a root my note 3 every thing was working until about a week ago... Hello guys,
I dropped my Note 3 in water around a month back,
Half touchscreen is working and hald is not, but with the stick i can use full touchscreen without any issue,
can you please tell me if its hardware issue, if yes then what i need to change in Note3?
What is the issue with my device?
Most like the screen. Different layers recognize pen and finger.
When I'm using my s-Pen i keep seeing ("s-pen attached") and it keeps poping the S-Pen menu and my spen stops working and works again! Its like my phone thinks i attached the spen so it stops working.
Anyone has this issue or can help me with this?
Try going into S-Pen Settings and removing the tick from 'Disable pen detection' box, and see if that makes any difference. Sounds like something is wrong with the S-Pen slot, and the phone thinks the Pen is in it when it's not. Not sure how that slot senses the Pen - maybe some dust or debris has got lodged inside it and is confusing whatever sensor is in there?
I already tried blowing in there, if i do that the dialog about deattaching s-pen will keep appearing! its not something that always happen, it happened while i was in the car and sometime before it, don't think it ever happened at home(90% of my life im in my house ) but when it happened, it kept doing it repeatedly that made it unusable!

Maybe you did not attach properly the screen flex, try to push a little the flex contacts. Also you can try to clean the flex + motherboard contacts with isopropyl alcohol and swabs, probably got some dirt and it can't make proper contact.
