Powered OFF unlocked nexus 6p with custom rom -> hardbricked? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I have a nexus 6p with unlocked bootloader, twrp, rooted and running the latest resurrection remix rom with a few xposed modules on it (amplify, boot manager, greenify donation ).
It was running like a boss, great performance, great battery life and so on.
Yesterday insted of putting it offline for charging overnight I decided to turning it off, and then I plugged the usb cable and I saw that it detected the charging while it was turning off.
This morning when I went to turn it on, nothing, nada, 0, no sign of life at all. Plug-and unplug the charging cable, no luck, change charging cable, plug it to the pc, nothing.
Tried to push the power button for 10, 15, 30 seconds, no luck, tried to boot to recovery with power button plus volume down, no luck again.
Very sad day got any advice for me?
Thank you!

Sounds hard bricked. Probably an internal malfunction. If you have it plugged in and holding power and volume does nothing, then there is nothing you can do. Very unlucky, sorry. Did you get insurance?

no, i'm not sure what huawei will have to say about my warranty, given the fact that the phone is modded.
I noticed that if I charge it for a very long period of time the top left portion under the screen gets mildly warm... not too sure why but I think that something hardware was faulty.

If you have to deal with Huawei then you are probably SOL. They won't fix anything under warranty. I would just take it to a local repair shop and have them look at it and see if it's something not too spend to fix. You could contact Google though and see if they will help you. Google actually cares about its customers. Huawei does not. If it wont boot they won't notice the mods probably. I got an HTC replaced that I bricked some time ago and they never noticed. If it turns on they might, but that doesn't sound like the case here.

I think that you can count on google support only if you got it through the play store which is not my case.
I took it to official Huawei repair center here in Milan, in approx 7 to 10 days they'll fix it. But I'm afraid they will eventually turn it on and find out all the naughty things that I did to it and **** my warranty
I'll let you know how it goes, thanks for your support.

the problem was 100% hardware, but now I am happy to report that the italian shop where I bought my phone have it replaced but only after 2 months. They said they fixed it but they lied because it is now graphite instead of silver LOL

Dead nexus 4, is there anything I can do?

So I woke up this morning and went to charge my nexus 4, which had around a week of life, only to be greeted with a flashing red light on its LED. It was working perfectly fine up until now, but now it doesn't turn on, it doesn't do anything if I try a hard reset (power + volume down) and charging it with via USB or AC only shows the red flashing LED, with no charging icon at all.
I have absolutely no idea why did it decide to spontaneously die, it didn't even leave the house yet because I was too paranoid I would drop it Is there anything I can do? Any ideas? It looks like getting a replacement is my only option but I wanted to ask you guys if by any chance there's anything else I could try.
have you rooted it or flash anything into it? Overclocking it or something? what have you done to it in the period of a "week"?
Nevermind, I managed to boot into recovery mode after pressing vol.down+power for about 40 secs while plugged to AC. It looks like the battery depleted completely and that was causing the red led — why did the battery go down to 0 while the phone was off is completely beyond me though. (FWIW I did not root the device, didn't flash anything, and didn't overclock it)
I had the same thing happen to be just now. Yesterday my battery died at 2% so I shut it off. I didn't charge it that night. Today I went to plug it in and I got a red flashing led. However after about 3-5 minutes of the charger the regular white charging battery symbol came up on the screen. I think the battery was just really dead.
i got my n4 today, had an gnex before
so i unlocked my phone, rooted and installed cwm
i flashed xylon rom and trinity kernel any 10, and everything was fine, like it was on my gnexus
after a couple of hours i pressed the power button to unlock the screen but nothing happend.
phone seems to be dead, pressing power button for 10 seconds do nothing
when i plug it into charger, the led is blinking red all the time, but phone wont turn on
do you think the device is broken?
i am really ****ed up, now wtf is the quality of that?
used it for 3 hours and its broken?
any idea is welcome..(
Nexus 4 DEAD... possibly not charging.
I have this exact same issue... but trying the volume down+power key or trying the power key by itself does not do a thing. The phone will only turn on for a couple of seconds and then die. I have been trying to charge it for a couple of days now with no luch.
I am overseas and just got my phone, which was thoroughly tested by my brother in the US, but it has been off the charger for a couple of weeks until it got to my hands... Is there any reset button or anything else that I can do if I open it???
Please, sending it back will be a major hassle, thank you.
As long as you are properly charging from a source that can provide at least 1.2A, you should be able to charge the phone back up.
Make sure you're not using an Apple charger, charging from a computer, or charging with a wall adapter that is rated below 1.2A.

Perhaps a kernel related problem? Phone is still very new, devs might have to sort out some shady stuff going on. There will and can always be a certain danger when flashing custom kernels, especially with a device that new.
This just happened to me right when I was demo'ing the 8GB to a buyer since I'm selling it back as I was able to order a 16GB on the last re-offering from Google, (so I don't need two Nexus phones). Hands were sweating when it wouldn't power on, so I grabbed my charger, plugged it in, and then it started flashing a red light. Eventually it turned on after about 5 mins, finally. Battery graph showed 90% charge before it turned off, then 0%, then started back now at 10% charge. This was after powering it off and leaving it in the box since only Tuesday.
Really strange issue... I actually remember something similar happening to my Mom's HP Touchpad a few months back as well. Had to plug it in for about 40 mins after she apparently turned it off and let it sit for a couple weeks during which time it discharged completely. Guess this is the bad part about non-removable batteries lol. Though my iPod touch 2G does sit here with next to no charge and it always powers on without fail.
Happened to me just a few minutes ago, luckily got it turning on again. Weird.
Im using franco kernel and now im scared thanks to this thread...

That sucks... Several people have reported that their phones started to work again just by doing nothing. I hope you somehow manage to bring it to life.

Same issue here.
I didn't fina a solution. I've kept the phone connected to the charger for a wole night but it's not booting anymore. I'b only able to enter in fastboot mode pressing vol down + power and connecting it to PC.
L.
This happened to me about 3 days ago while running Antutu with franco kernel r19
My phone completely depleted its battery all the way from 98%. I was able to recover it by connecting my charger for 3 mins and powering on the device with the charger connected. I let it charge for about 10 mins(It refused to charge above 3%).
So i disconnected the charger and restarted the phone. Lo and behold, my battery was back to 98%..
I have been reading lots of threads and i don't seem to be the only one that experienced this issue while running Antutu. Although i have run Antutu multiple times after restart and the problem has not replicated itself..
At first i thought Franco kernel was the culprit but this also happened to people who were completely stock..Leads me to believe that this could be a hardware issue...Lg and Google better figure out what is going on because this could lead to bad publicity and furthermore push people who are currently on the fence regarding a purchase of this device further away.
I have the same issue since this Monday. I still cannot power it on or access fastboot mode.
It happened after I updated to Franco R20 from R19. I still run stock and never OC'ed.
How can I unroot and lock the phone without being able to access fastboot or bootloader?

[Q] Yet another Nook not holding charge and hanging at the boot screen

Google shows me I'm not even remotely alone in my trouble, but with the way tech works every problem is at least a little unique. I'll give a rundown of what I've down and whats happened up to this point.
First, I bought it used from Amazon. Very Good condition from a seller with 99% or whatever satisfaction. I think I've bought from them before, actually. So while this isn't a new device, I know I wasn't scammed. It was also factory reset and I'm assuming it wasn't rooted, though admittedly I have no idea how to check on a Nook.
Second, when it arrived the first thing I did, naturally, was turn it on. Plugged in the Nook to my computer, it booted up just fine, I registered, and loaded one a few ebooks with Calibre. The books opened up, they looked great, we were golden. That was when I noticed the battery indicator in the top didn't have a number on it. It was solid black with a ?. I thought that was weird, so I tried rebooting the device. That was when I was hit with an update, it downloaded and installed then rebooted. Here's when it all went to crap.
Third, I can get into the device. If I hold the power button and wait a bit it takes me to the homescreen where I'm met with a 0% Battery warning saying to plug it in or the device will shut off. Waiting for this message do disappear seems to give me normal access to the device, except the battery indicator is still just ?. This still happens now, after about 10 hours of charging.
Fourth, plugging in the device to anything be it wall charger or computer causes the device to reboot back to the Read Forever screen. Even if the device is completely powered off. It just hangs at the boot screen and goes nowhere. If I hold down the power button, or power + n, all it does is flash the screen to blank and then goes back to the boot screen. If I unplug it and hold down power it goes back to the previous problem.
That's everything I know. I seem to have the proper Nook micro USB cable, but the adapter is a little white Chinese looking thing so I know it's not the official. So I've switched to my Nexus 5's micro USB cable since I know it works and plugged it into my PC. The charging indicator is on, but thanks to my minor colour blindess I'm having a hell of a time deciding if it's orange or green. It's either green, orange, or yellow for sure though. Right now I'm going to go to sleep, let it charge through the night. I've had a similar problem happen to my Nexus 7 where it wouldn't turn on, and a nightlong charge seemed to fix it so who knows, this thread might be useless in the morning.
In the more likely event that it's still very useful, any help would be appreciated. And please try to keep it simple. I'm not new to technology or Android in phone/tablet form and all the associated hairpulling, but this is literally the first time I've ever dealt with an ereader. I'd like to get this solved at home, since I don't have a warranty and the price to ship this thing back to the seller would make this end up costing more than a new one would have since I'm Canadian and the seller isn't.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: After a night of charging, still 0%.
This, unfortunately, is the sign of a factory buggy (for lack of a better word) device. I doubt there's any hope. Sorry about that.
Keep me updated.
I think that there might be software to blame. My Motorola Defy also had that sort of weird battery behaviour after one of factory resets. Since then I have to install a patch written by one of XDA members every time I make a reset. But it works. Unfortunately I have no idea if it can be helpful in this case. (I'm refering to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34590229&postcount=1 )
Nonetheless I would seek some slight hope in disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.
Alright, so. Progress report:
I tried the 8 failed boots trick to reset the device back to the original firmware. This brought me back to square one. The device worked, I could load books on to it via USB, and read them. But the battery indicator was just a question mark. Going into the settings revealed that the battery was at 100%, or at least claimed to be. But hey, I could read on it so I figured I was alright.
Now, a couple days later, I just woke up to find it with a new problem. Pressing the little N button to wake it up isn't doing anything. It won't respond to holding the power button down and my computer wont pick it up when it is plugged in. The charging light still comes on but I don't know how much it can be trusted.
I'm going to let it charge for a bit, but I'm beginning to think the battery is just toast.

Hi, I just went through something similar 48 hrs ago. The NST is frozen, stuck at reading forever. Before that, the battery icon had a '?', and the device info said battery status was "unavailable". Plugging in to charge had a solid green light.
I read around, and what worked was to open the case, and disconnect the battery. Google said to wait 30 mins, I waited 1. Re plugged in, put it to charge. The LED turned to orange, and 15 mins later, the NST booted. All good now.
Total cost: set of TORX scredrivers (you need a T5).

Okay, so. No T5 but I managed it with a teensy weensy flathead. Unlugged the battery, left it that way for about 20 minutes, plugged it back in, then left it to charge. 15 minutes later I came back and viola, it works and the battery is reporting it's remaining juice. Thank you very much, that seems to have done the trick.
You know, this might be the first time I ever managed to have a tech problem solved entirely by a forum.

[Q] LG G2 D800 Help needed. possibly bricked. yes really..bricked

So yesterday my phone worked great. I work outside for the most part. It rained its ass off. Phone did not get wet that im aware of. no water drops or anything on it. Had it inside my waterproof jacket. This was early morning..10am or so. I get home from work around 7pm. Phone still works. battery is getting very low though. At 8pm phone reboots..which it randomly does sometimes. I set it down, come back to it awhile later and realize it never came back on. Figured the battery was completely drained past 5%. plugged it into stock charger (not stock cable though but a highend cable still). Phone wouldnt boot up or power on or even show any signs of life. Tried other cables, charges, USB ports on computer, even car charger. Nothing. Set it on charge over night. Still not even a LED blink. Set it on car charger all day while at work. Not even a blink. I took it apart (taken many phones apart in my time haha) disconnected battery and plugged it in...nothing. tried power/volume down, power/volume up, all 3 buttons. held all button combos for over a minute. Still nothing at all. I have a new battery on order that I can slap in there and see if the battery is just completely shot but does anyone else have any ideas on what i can do to get it up and running again? Already had to buy a new phone G3! because i HAVe to have one for work. So i want to get this one working again so i have a backup in case this ever happens again.
Thanks for any and all help

tried to enter download mode, recovery mode, every mode i know of. with no luck.
and forgot to mention. when plugged into computer the computer does not notice anything has been plugged in at all. no sound at all. nothing under device manager
well i got the new battery in. didnt work. still no power at all. anyone else know of something i can try? i know the screen isnt dead because it would still give out sound when turned on or vibrate. but that doesnt happen either. is there some other thing i could test? how would i test the motherboard? power button?
This sounds like exactly what happened to my phone about two weeks ago. Phone was randomly rebooting one morning in strange intervals. Once or twice an hour at first, then more often as the day progressed. By the end of the day the phone wouldn't even turn on anymore. I had thought it was the battery as well but after bringing in to an electronics repair shop, it was diagnosed as a bad motherboard and the guy quoted me $130 to replace it. Considering you can buy the D800 off contract brand new for about $220 off the internet, I declined. I'm still really upset about it. I had already had it replaced by AT&T while it was under warranty. However, now my warranty has expired. I really liked the phone overall but now I'm not so sure I trust LG's hardware.
I'm using my brother's old iphone 4 now and it drives me flippin' crazy. I want to get a new phone as soon as possible but I don't know what to get. I'm so torn on the whole issue. Was thinking about the S6 but I've had bad luck with samsung in the past as well. I'd get a newer iphone but ios is so lame compared to Android. I hope you find a better solution than I did. :crying:

Took a picture with flashlight on, now hard bricked

this could have just been bad luck but now it looks like im sending my phone back to huawei AGAIN.
Long story short, i JUST got the phone back from getting a battery replacement a week ago and every thing was great. Finally could go from 100%-0 with no issues. I was looking for a serial number on a router and with the flashlight turned on i went to take a picture. Screen froze and started to boot loop. I did manage to get back into TWRP after the first boot so i decided id wipe everything and restore my Rom seeing as i had just backed up yesterday and wouldn't miss much. It got me to the "please lock your bootloader bla bla bla" screen and went black. No google screen or anything. Now its just dead. plugged it into a charger. Nothing. Plugged it into the computer. Nothing. Hold down power for 20 seconds. Nothing. Hold volume down and power. Noooppee.
So yea, either im an idiot for trying to take a pic with the flashlight on or im having a bad run with this phone lately. Maybe both. idk. i love this phone but this is getting ridiculous.

I've taken pics with the flashlight on several times on mm and nougat. I've never had any issues from it. If you can still get into TWRP maybe try to load factory image. If you aren't even getting to to google splash screen it's almost like you don't have an os installed.
Nevermind. Just reread what you wrote and saw that it won't boot at all.

I'm having the battery drain issue with my 6P. Google said they will send an RMA even though I'm out of warranty. I've just got to tell them to send it. Haven't done it yet because I'm halfway scared of getting a device that has worse problems. At least now I know 15% battery actually means 0. Other than that it's in perfect condition. After your experience I may just keep my phone and try replacing the battery myself.
its funny because i bought directly from huawei in November of 2016 and before i sent it in it told me i was under warranty until Jan 26 2017. now i just checked and im under warrenty until 4-3-17. so maybe they dont even trust their own work and extended my warranty lol
if i didnt have a back up phone id be way more pissed off about this.

There is another thread where ppl are able to regain access the dead phone by holding the power button down for an extended time. Some say a minute and a half, others several minutes but their phones were coming back on and fully functioning afterwards. If you can get back into recovery why not try a factory reset before restoring your backup.

Do you mean it won't power on at all? If so, hold the power button only down for 2-3 minutes or until it boots, or not.
If you meant it starts but gets stuck at the Google (no startup animation) and you cannot access recovery mode, that is totally different.
Connect it to a PC and see how it is detected in Device Manager.

Connect it to a PC and see how it is detected in Device Manager.

I tried holding power button for several minutes. Nothing .
It does not show any signs of life, and its definitely not stuck in a bootloop.
Also got nothing in device manager too , not even EDL 9008 Mode.

Seems like after charging all night, the battery would be full. Never heard of a 6P dying on the spot with a full battery. Were you using a stock charger or aftermarket? Wall charger or something else? I'd put it on a *different* wall charger overnight and try the long power button press again. At least 2 minutes.

Stock charger. The charger works fine as i have checked it with other phones.
Either your charging port is bad in the phone has no juice and died. Or the battery is bad and come morning it died because of the charging all night. Or possibly the power button connection is bad internally maybe broken and can't turn on. I had a bad power button

How did you know it was a bad power button?
I have a similar problem as the OP. If I shut my phone off I can't usually get it started for about a day or 2. I'm starting to think I may have a bad power button as well.
*Edit*
It can't be a bad power button on my unit cause it works flawlessly with the phone on. I'm stumped.

Last night I left my phone charging overnight.Today morning when I woke up phone was working.I opened snapchat and phone got stuck.I gave it some time but the screen turned off after a while and now the phone is dead.No charging animations,no recovery mode,no flashing LEDs,NOTHING !! I have bought phone from 3rd party seller(Flipkart - Google's official sales partner here) coz Google rarely had the phone in stock. Also my 1 year warranty is also over.

I guess the battery has been dead coz I have faced similar situation with my HTC ONE X+ using it for just a year and the battery got swollen and it's completely dead. I went out to a repair shop nearby and after opening the mobile, the battery was completely swollen and the technician just replaced a new battery and it did boot up and worked fine. So from my experience I guess it's the battery that got damaged completely (dead) and you need to replace the battery. Hope this information is helpful

You couldn't tell the battery was swollen before the phone was opened up? I wasn't aware until recently that this was a potential problem with the 6P but since other people have reported the same I guess it can be added to the list.

My job involves troubleshooting electronics with circuit boards all the way up to 3 phase hv. It's probably likely a power issue which is either the battery, screen, board, switch, or connection. But the most likely are the forementioned.
I got it diagnosed from Huawei Service Centre at nominal charges. They say motherboard is fried.
