Unlock Hotspot on Sprint S7 Edge - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have an s7 edge purchased thru my carrier (Sprint around 10/15 and is running Android 6.0.1. My Sprint plan (unlimited freedom) has no cap on lte+ speed data and comes with 5gb of hotspot. Is there a way to get around the 5gb hotspot limit? I'd like to be able to take advantage of the unlimited high speed data for my other electronics at home to save on paying for cable internet service as I have lte+ service reception at my home. But 5gb goes quickly when I am using Netflix, etc on my smart tv streaming off my hotspot. Any advice appreciated.

T-Mobile $29.99 plan with Laptop?

I have the T-Mobile MDA and thinking of getting their $29.99 unlimited internet plan. Can it use my phone as a modem with this plan on my laptop to get on the net?
sure a google for "xda as modem pdf"
gave this
http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_spec.html
but it may be flatrate but that dont change the fact that
it's soo slow it's close to useless imho
You can use your phone as a modem with settings you can get over the internet. However at 60 to 130 kbps, its pretty slow.
I was with Verizon where I could hook up much higher speeds.
One good thing about T-mobile is that with the $29.99 plan, you can use their Hot Spots. If your laptop has WiFi, you can hook up directly at broadband speeds without the phone. Software and instructions are available at their website. This is not bad as their are hotspots in all FedEx/Kinkos, Starbucks, and many hotels. In Germany, the hotspots are everywhere.
Hookng up your laptop via a DUN (Dial Up Networking) connection with TMO works if you're in a pinch but it's slow. If you're going to hook up often, I'd go verizion with an HTC Apache (xv6700). The data plan will cost you about $49 per month.

Cingular Data Plans (3G)

Hello,
I currently have an unlimited phone data plan from Cingular for $19.95 for my 8125/Wizard, which uses Edge.
(This probably isn't completely kosher, but I'm not going to pay more for the PDA Unlimited Connect plan unless I have to).
Question is - will this plan only work with Edge data access? Or will 3G HSDPA work fine w/ this plan?
In a nutshell - just wondering if Cingular has seperate data plans for 3G. I'm planning to buy the HTC Kaiser as soon as it is available, and I'm hoping I can continue using my existing $19.95 data plan for unlimited 3G data access
3G works fine. Cingular tells you that you must have the PDA plan in order for it to work but that that is a lie. I have an HTC P3600 with the the unlimited $19.95 plan and I get perfect 3G signal. They say that the $19.95 media works plan is only for "smart phones".

Does at&t olam detect the tmobile hd2 IMEI?

I'm with at&t and just got a t-mobile hd2, I'm waiting to receive the unlock code. Just wondering if at&t is detecting the imei in their system and forcing a data plan on the account.
I don't want to bother with paying for data because I can only get edge connectivity.
I'm using an unlocked tmobile motorola razr right now for backup with data blocked on the line.
No it will not detect it. I am using it right now without any data plan. You can use it with basic internet too.
it will not dtect it since the IMEI is not on the database
Yes and no
the IMEI is ALWAYS transmitted when the phone accesses the network but since ATT does not have a record of it, they do not know what device it is and therefore they do not know what data plan to suggest for it.
I was thinking of getting the medianet plan for $10/mo since I have unl family texting.
but I have access to wi-fi at home and work.
is edge speed unbearably slow? Worth at least $10/mo?
right now all I pay is $10/mo for my line
Yes, EDGE is CONSIDERABLY slower, like, dialup slow. Most of the time, ATT's EDGE speed is 100KBPs or so, which is crazy slow compared to WiFi.
So, do you guys think that AT&T wont detect HD2 unlock as of today. Am getting my phone a few days from now.

How does T-Mobile International data throttling work?

How does T-Mobile International data throttling work? I noticed that even when getting LTE internationally, I only get 3G speeds, just as their fine print mentions.
I've been thinking about this more, perhaps it is also enforced via TTL, just like tethering is, as there would be an extra hop back to T-mobile when roaming, similar to how there is an extra hop, laptop to a phone when tethering in the US.

APN hotspot edit and throttling on newer plans

Apologize in advance for posting in both s7 & s7edge forums...
I have an older sprint plan,
1500min & unlimited data without throttle.
Kept this plan because it had subsidized phones at contract renewal.
Would keep this plan if still subsidizing phones,
but... no more subsidizing.
I have s7 930p with orinigal PB5 rom.
I used the non-root APN edit method to enable hotstop.
My statements/stats do not show hotspot data usage being counted.
Looking for people with the APN edit for hotspot who have newer plans.
If I change to the newer unlimited data plans that come with limited hotspot throttling,
Does the APN hotspot edit hide hotspot data from usage stats, preventing hotspot limit throttling?
Or will usage stats count APN edit hotspot data and throttle hotspot at limit?
FWIW - I have a friend with the S6 on one of the newer plans that includes 10 GB of hotspot. I've rooted and done the hotspot hack on his phone. His hotspot usage generally shows nothing at all. Once in a while it will randomly show a few GB, but it's never gotten close to his 10 GB limit and has never throttled. The S6 hotspot hack is a little different than the one for the S7, so YMMV...

Click to collapse
For some reason 4 updates after PB5 (cause i staed on PB5 for the Hotspot too.) the apns are now editable again
Plus theres a no root version that all you do is toggle on hotspot
Toggle off data and back on then not one Kb will count toward you plan. BUT you must toggle off /on data every time you turn on the hotspot and back off. That includes when you get a call that disconnects you.
