Display calibration after rooting? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Moto X Style has a yellow tint/warm color tone and I'm really confused whether I should send it to service center for repairing or not. I've read it's possible to change the color temperature once you are rooted.
So is there anyone who had yellow tint on their Style but eventually fixed it by calibrating after rooting the device? How you guys did it after root and is warm/yellow tint normal for this phone? Also please help me in deciding whether I should go for a repair or not.
PS: About the yellow tint, I observed it when I compared my friend's Style with mine.

Edit on 13th Oct, 2016 : Sent my X Style to service center for replacing the display.
Edit on 20th Oct, 2016 : Received my X Style back after a repair but the new display is warm too. I also checked for one more X Style in the service center, it too had a warm color temperature.

This happened to me before I rooted, I factory reset and it went back to normal, try that first.

I did factory reset once long back but it didn't bring a lot of change. Did you reset it from recovery or through settings?

I was using stock rom and stock recovery and I factory reset from settings and chose erase all

Thanks! I just factory reset via recovery but it doesn't seem to be solved.

If it helps I used to notice the yellowing when booting the phone as it uses that bright white background.
Here's a long shot, have you got a screen protector on your phone if so it could be the protector has sun damage, like I said it's a long shot lol

If you're rooted on stock 6.0.0, flash frankenclark 0.14. If you're rooted on stock 6.0.1, flash frankenclark 1.0.
Use any of the suggested kernel manager apps under Installation Instructions to change the calibration. I suggest Kernel Adiutor Mod.

Thank you! Yes I've a screen protector and it's all fine. I mean no sun damage or something. I'm not rooted yet because that will void the warranty if I opt for screen replacement. Isn't there any way to calibrate the display for non rooted users?

Your best sending it in and get it fixed or replaced or take it back to where you got it and get them to give you a replacement.

Yes I'm gonna visit the service center soon.

Here are the comparison of my Style with that of my friend's Style. The difference is mildly visible in pics, maybe because of camera. However, in reality, the other is whitish than mine.

Have you had it repaired now ?

Not yet, couldn't make time because of busy schedule, the service center is far from my house. Maybe I'll visit them in this upcoming week.

I think yours is just like mine. In a way yours actually looks better than your friends because its brighter and colors are more vivid. The best thing is to just use a custom kernel to change the calibration. I wouldn't try to get a replacement if that's the only thing wrong with yours because it most likely will 1) be the same or worse or 2) have a different issue.

Yes my colors look more saturated than his. If you zoom in - in the search bar in chrome, there you'll notice the difference in the white color. I'm just worried if it could be fixed by using custom kernel or not. Ya sometimes I too feel if the replacement would give better results or not.

13th October 2016: Sent my MXPE/Style to service center for replacing display.

Should I exchange my white EVO due to plastic defect?

Hi, everyone. I think this is my first post to the forum, been a member for a while. I got the white EVO and battery life suxed, but I got it fixed now after rooting my device and using SetCPU + other tweaks in the forum.
I guess I should have noticed the issue when I saw BB give me a bent box. Anyways, there is a gap that looks like it is starting to grow, but I haven't confirm this. Take a look at what I talking about. The defect is between the black and white plastic pieces.
{Link broken due to my newbie status}
Yeah it kinda bothers me, has a clicking noise if you squeeze the back, but not always; thought this was normal, lol. Yeah if I run my finger on it it does expand and I can see it moving like a clam with a small mouth. I am just curious if this is going to get bigger or if this is normal. Also, has anyone exchanged a phone for this or similar defects.
Thanks,
Definitely exchange it
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yup, I'd go exchange it, especially since the box was already bent. Though the real issue may be that the Apple device shown in your picture tried to kill your phone while you slept.
I am going to return it tomorrow. How do I un-root it? I did'nt flash it to install custom roms, I just rooted it. Is their a way to un-root it?

shouldn't matter. rooting your phone didn't cause the plastic to separate. I wouldn't even bother honestly.

please some one give me their input on my situation

So i I have a Nexus Ons, and Its been working flawlessly since I bought the thing. At first I tried to keep it original and not root it, but then I just said **** it haha but thats not the problem. I rooted it cyanogen mod all the goodness and i installed torch to use my flash led blub as a flashlight. I may have over used and it over heated so when i take pictures using flash there is a area of blue in every picture i take using the flash. when i dont use flash it takes pic of very good quality just as before but now i cant use flash if my life depends on it.
Is there anyway to like lower the flash so the blue does not show up as much or all together replacing the blub it self?
PLEASE XDA MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY HELP ME WITH THIS I TRY TO MAKE THREADS AND I FOLLOW THE FORUMS EVERYDAY BUT NO 1 SEEMS TO HELP
Have you checked all your settings on the camera itself. Its possible you may have inadvertantly changed something. Check your settings and go from there. If the led is toast , prolly have to send the phone in to get fixed.
it def isnt a setting because it happens when i change roms too.. and like am i still able to send it in even tho its rooted or would i have to bring it back to stock?
It sounds like the led is ok but there might be a light-leak internally between the led and the camera.
Yep, might be the back cover not sitting well, or protector case, or your fingers.

Agreed. Never heard of this problem which leads me to believe it's not shipped physical hardware malfunctioning. If it was there would be alot of threads *****ing and complaining, since that's what 8/10s of humanity use the internet for =D I'd make sure it's none of the above then flash a different rom or version and double wipe the phone. G'luck

Damn, it is like that in the youtube video you just posted although it isnt as blue.
Is there anyway to change the bulbs board or?
There is, of course, if you disassemble the phone and have the LED board.
You might be better off attempting to use your warranty and have the phone replaced.
Try cleaning the lense.

I read in another thread where somebody's flash led turned blue after dropping it from 1m
Other than trying to replace the led i can't think of anything.

I am no pro with screens, So i may be wrong, but it looks like it has been either burnt or had an impact with a sharp object in that area of the screen, return it for a new one, hopefully they will replace it.
Looks like the LCD definitely needs to be changed. It looks like it's burnt or either a reaction to a magnet but I'm not quite sure what can cause that. Costs can vary but directly from LG will cost you parts+labor+shipping. Check if that Orange spot still register when you touch it.

Options: Send to LG to get it fixed (probably costs more than $100+ depending), sell it as is and get another phone (won't get as much for it with the spot) or keep it and use it as is since it still registers touch (spot might be a little annoying).

hmmmmm :c you are probably going to have to replace the screen yourself (cheaper) or live with the yellowness
I've got some yellowness appearing along the top right of the screen. Its barely noticeable but its likely to get worse over time.
From what I can tell, it seems to be related to heat/warmth. Its winter here and after a walk outside, the orangish patches pretty much go away. They appear more intense when sitting on my desk next to my laptop (right near the vent).
Same problem

it gets into the fastboot....but no display...i didnt tried it...but i dont think it will fix it...and if it doesnt fixes then ill loose the recovery...so didnt do that...
I dont think that factory resetting and flashing stock rom will do...coz all that happens in recovery and i can see any think that just a white screen...sometimes faint....must be a display or a motherboard problem....
but when it comes to display it is not broken or got damaged....might be motherboard must be burnt...but if so then why will the cell boot up without issues...
are there any chances of screen damaging due to heat...?coz it has got heated and i got this problem...
And all functions are working even calls sms wifi....everything w/o issue...just no display..
Should think on it..
Can any1 detect where the problem is so that I can fix it...
If you can't buy a new screen assembly to troubleshoot whether that's a possible issue then the only thing I can think of is wiping the phone and flashing the google factory image.
Are you able to download this and flash it through the command line using fastboot?

Hey sturdy I hope your phone carries an Indian warranty !! If yes the best way is to flash back the factory image and get it to your nearest lg centre !!
If u are not covered under warranty lg guys charge around 4.8 k INR for front screen with digitalizer !! You get a screen replacement on eBay for around 2.5 k !! If its the motherboard it can burn a dent in your pocket !!

i dont have warranty....ok i need to detect the problem...so that i can fix it....You can read the previous posts i have written....
Anywayz firsstly i opened up my monster...cleaned the thermal paste..re-applied it....Ok nothing is burnt on motherboard....everything works even usb....my computer is reading the device....just no display thats it...i tried to disconnect the display and see...still everything works no heat up...
so it takes me towards the screen problem....
Now is there any chance to screen plug getting damaged from the motherboard.... there are just two slots i dont think it has any chance of damage...
And also the screen is responsive but not display...i can swipe and receive calls and everything....just no display...
So what is damaged ?
As there are two parts of screen..
This is the exact thing whats happening
After a lot of research...i found that from the three parts which i thought i had problem with is that...lcd digitizer and gpu...
there is no digitizer issue...after my research...now left if lcd might have burnt out or gpu might have burnt out...

I'm really guessing here but like I said before, i'd say restore the factory image from Google to see if there's any software issues at play like a kernel issue.
At least then (if that doesn't fix it) you have the option of either sending in the device to LG for a fix, giving it to a third party repair shop, or buying the screen assembly yourself and replacing it that way.
Like NABENDU1 said you can get one on ebay or other sites, find the tutorials on youtube and you already seem to have the necessary tools so that'd be the cheapest way.
Though i'd say make sure you get the whole assembly to make replacing it easier, or it can get quite fiddly.
If it still doesn't work after that, then it may be a problem with the motherboard which would also need fixing.
Good luck figuring it out though.

The white ring stays even when it's off?
If you're sure you reconnected all the ribbons inside and wiping everything and flashing the factory image didn't solve the issue then it's safe to assume there's a hardware fault somewhere. Unless you or anyone else can think of what else it could be, it looks like it's time to try replacing the screen assembly.
Don't know where you'll be able to find one in India. Ebay might have one, aliexpress might also be worth a look, I saw one on there that ships to India from China for Rs. 4,070.40 / piece with free shipping.
Again good luck!

You may need to flash a kernel that matches your display. G2 is made with 2 different panels and if your kernel is using one and not the other you will have an issue like this. Did this start happening after using autorec by any chance?

guys i still have this problem, any one there who can help me? you guys thin think this is software related ? i sure hope so :| can i try a custom rom ? i never installed a rom before :/
@Demitha I am not sure since it can be both hardware and software problems which can cause a blackscreen.

screen connection problem
hi buddy,
I have the same problem and i think it's a connection issue.
In my case the screen sometimes goes off or changes color intensity or inverse color.
the solution is to knock on the lower side of the screen and it turn on correctly.
firstable it happends rarely but with the time it's comming very annoying.
now just holding the phone hardly or connecting the headphones or charger the screen goes ****ing itself and i have to knock severly or push it to resuscitate it.
i'm thinking in opening the device and look the connections to solve it.
I had similar issue with my previous phone. But I had something like few points where I had to press to get backlight working again, eventually it stopped functioning at all.
As I found out, screen cable was damaged and I figured out that it had been due to dropping the phone or other kind of mechanical damage.
In case if you don't have a warranty or something, my suggestion is to open back-cover and check if you can find anything that is wrong with screen cables. But in worst case scenario it is due to faulty motherboard.
This happened to me few weeks ago, definntely hardware related.
I tried to open my phone and check stuff around, but I'm no expert, and couldn't find anything weird.
So I ended buying a new G2....
