Has anybody seen an effect on his/her Universal?
When I take a photo in a dark condition on the dark parts of the photo there are many different color points which are I think about 4 pixel size.
In a lighter condition there is also the same effect, but not as strong as the dark side and on the dark parts too.
What is this?
Hardware of software problem?
Just to know what I'm saying I attached files.

I think those are dead pixels within your camera. If you notice, they always seem to be in the same place. I've heard that the camera within the Universal isn't of a great quality, and I guess it's pot luck, as with LCD screens, as to how many (if any) of your pixels are dead.
You might be able to argue that it should be replaced under warranty as long as they don't have an acceptable dead pixel level - certainly for LCD screens there is usually a policy which states that a certain number of dead pixels is acceptable based on their position etc, not sure whether this applies to cameras too.
I've attached a couple of pictures taken with my XDA Exec, and you can see I've got a few dead ones too that show up on both pics, but not as noticeable as yours (apart from the one nearly half way down on the right).
Cheers,
Steve.
Yes.
I think you have the right.
I will speak to the shop where I bought. Guarantee is there.
Thanks the answer.
which of the above were taken with night mode on?
Neither of my shots used night mode.
Cheers,
Steve.
I have the same thing going on to... I think it showed up after the new rom was installed. Imate JasJar.
It has nothing to do with the firmware..
Mine does have like 10 of these, quite annoying aren't they?!
Well, turned out to be 18...[/img]
Dear Friends,
I have many dots in the photos even in daylight... Ohh no... First I thought it was because of firmware bug but now i am really confused after reading above about dead pixels in the camera...Mine is a 2 months old jasjar...
DAYLIGHT:
NIGHT:
CLOSEDCAM:
Regards and thanks...
I noticed that mine has a few dots too. I only noticed it after the I-Mate upgrade, so I did not worry about it myself. I did not have those dots when I was using the O2 ROM. I don't want to switch ROM just to find out.
Delete me
Hm... I'm trying to reflash with an older ROM and check it.
I will post here pics with the new/old ROM.
My friend said (who has a PDAstore www.pdabolt.hu and PDA-repairservice www.pdaszerviz.hu ) it is not pixel-error but dust-particle on the camera-processor.
I don't know I will be smarter after the downgrade.
Ok, I'm finished. It seems it is independent from the ROM. I downgraded to the 1.13 O2 ROM, and skipped the ExtendedROM installation. Results are the same:
hmm... anybody?
Hasn't everyone already answered the question? It's dead pixels in the camera CCD. So a hardware fault.

I agree - hardware fault, most likely due to poor quality component. Probably not a lot you can do about it - all Universals probably have this pproblem to one degree or another, it's just whether the number and position of the dead pixels is acceptable to you.
Cheers,
Steve.
Ok. Thakyou for all. I close the topic, I found it - as you said -, it is a hardware fault. I made contact my guarantee service, they will change it. (the camera)

Any picture I ever take has this annoying black dot in the exact center of the camera. I took off the case to see if it was something on the lens and from what I can tell there isn't. I've tried clean wipes and everything and at this point I'm just frustrated, so hopefully someone can tell me that this is some weird setting that I'm not finding.
Here is an example of a picture that has the dot show up. If it matters, it shows up when recording video as well.

...maybe a dumb question, but is it on the case?
haha, nope not on the case either. IF it's not a technical or software issue it's inside the lens itself, which is pretty much impossible from what I can see. I don't see anywhere that anything could get to it.
Wow, that has got to suck, and just be plain annoying.
I'm not much on hardware, but can cameras die just like LCD screens? How an LCD screen will get a dead pixel, can cameras do the same?
Hi all,
S I downloaded another firmware update from Samsung apps - with date 11.06.2011.. Updated the camera and pink spot is gone, not even visible. My camera firmware is - OCEF 02 OCEED 11.. I had KE2 when i bought phone, updated via odin to KE7. Before this update i downloaded and installed all other updates that samsung apps offer..
Samsung made it!!
I downloaded the cam update from Samsung Apps today, my phone shows:
Cam FW Ver: OCEF02
Phone FW Ver: TBEC28
Pink spot still present. Posted pic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14965006&postcount=190
Guys, its mostly because of the hardware.. but possible software issue too.
try to clean the lense of your camera.
I noticed, that I sometimes had a big pink spot and most times nothing at all.
And after I cleaned it very good, it was gone most of the time, but for some reason not allways.. really strange, but it helped alot to clean the cam lense!
try it and post, if it helped!
hmm, thats strange.. I also had photos like you.. Are you on KE7? I installed one previouse update, i think it was something like firmware OC.. But i dindt install previouse camera samsung firmware 2 update or something like that..
I can see now clearly that phone is managing the white balance totally differnt than when pink spot was present..

It's 100% a software problem but there are different cams out there so not all might be affected. To workaround and prove it's software just change the white balance to anything other than auto and the pink spot will be gone.

Yeah, i know, would be nice though if cam would be usable with auto balance though Hopefully sooner or later there will be an update to fix that. Does your camera make 2 slight sounds when opening it and when switching to video mode ?
now you say it it used to but not anymore since i am on kf1
edit: it's back

cool, didn't know that about the white balance.
I was really wondering about this pink spot issue.
The pink spot is part a hardware issue anyway, because the camlense glass (the one that protects the cam) is little bit of lila/pink if you look at it from different angles.

Sorry to disagree, but it can't be hardware as cam works perfectly if you don't use auto white balance mode. Pink spot appears only when you take photos of white things indoors with no flashlight or other source of light.
I even got the pink spot on my front cam, so it's got to be a software issue
The Samsung apps app said i have an update for my camera , the date is 22/06/11 , today, so i am currently flashing it i hope it does not kill my camera
Ok, maybe.. but check out the cam glass i talked about above.
It's a little lila/purple right ?

don't know, can't check really nor if the firmware update fixed the pink spot, it's too dark
Depends on how the light reflects in the glass, now in my room with my light on i see it green, other times looks like a rainbow of colors.
Well the flash went OK, but i will not be able to test it till tomorrow as the pink spot appears to show up in daylight, I saw it against my white refrigerator
I don't know if this is a new update or not, as the Samsung apps app is still saying that there is still a update for my camera
The camera firmware update 11.6.01 went on fine. Not sure about the pink spot yet but have noticed when zoomed into a picture through the gallery you can now scroll left and right to the next picture without having to zoom out again. Is this new, if so it is much better.
There is still no mute shutter sound option though :-(

Check your cam firmware version, if it's OCEF02 you have the latest update installed.
Do you guys notice with the latest camera firmware (SCEF02) when filming the framerate drops massively when focusing?
Just check it`s OCEF02

KF2 doesn't have any shutter sounds if you flash it. I just downloaded the camera update but battery is too low to test it, will keep an eye on any differences.
Hi XDA,
I just bought my Xperia Z2 yesterday and i went to the batch numbers topic and checked for Issues reported by people there. Fortunatelly i dinot have any issues but today i noticed the front camera quality was very poor. There is a Yellowish reddish tint that appears on the front camera however the back cover is fine. The picture is like thousand of small dots flicker on the screen and if i keep it very close to my face then i can notice it. If I click the Picture the picture seems to be completely fine.
Can any one of you please check and let me know if you are also facing this kind of Issue?

I took it to the service center and they said it a problem. He asked me to come tomorrow and they would update the firmware to a latest build and hopefully issue would be resolved otherwise they would replace it for me
ok so i got the same issue but i dont know if it is firmware of the camera problem , but the pic taken out is completely fine

Yes the finished picture is fine but while taking the picture it has a lot of noise. I have checked it with service center guys and they have called me tomorrow to update my firmware to see if issue is resolved otherwise they would replace the phone. However, talking to few people here in XDA it seems that noise issue is there with Sony camera and if the finished picture is fine it is not much of an Issue. So, I am thinking to get the software updated to latest build and then dont take replacement and keep using it.
What is the batch number of your phone ? Mine is 14w19

Of course it's an issue. It alters and creates an inaccurate preview. Why should it be flawed if the front is fine?

If you grab Front Camera Video it is also an issue because it uses the same Live-View as what you see on the screen.

Yes I agree. The video has hell lot of noise. But the picture comes out clear. I took the phone to service center and they reflashed the firmware and issue was still there. He told me he can replace the phone for me, but i refused as this is only the problem and i dont want to get a newphone which is of a different batch and has hell lot of other Issues.
Yeah, I've had this problem since I got the phone. I made a thread a couple weeks ago about it being an issue. I'm not updated to the current software, but I didn't think it would help, lol.
And it is very important to me as I'm a SnapChat whore in every meaning of the word, and, for some reason, the final image when taken in SnapChat is NOT made better as if it were taken with the Camera app.
I also have a 14w19, and I see what you mean. I don't mind so much as I don't use the front camera a whole lot (only with SnapChat, and the video quality isn't always the nest there anyway). I'm not bothered.
I'm bothered that for $700, the hardware and perhaps software in this case is so obviously flawed. I mean they really advertised the hell out of their camera prowess. But the front camera looks like the whole screen is dipped in sand.
It is clearly a software issue and I think it dosnt matter what batch you have, mine is 14W18 and in with really low light I have this issue but if there is some light left there is no problem at all and also the back camera did not have any kind of this issue in my case.
I'm sure that it's a software issue. Why else would the picture be correct after actually taking it with the built-in Camera app?

It's hard to tell what you mean exactly here. Are you saying the display on the screen has small dots on it or the picture it takes is not good.
is this something that comes across in a video chat or not as in the other person sees the same as well.
Can you post a screen shot so we understand better what you mean ?

Actually i wont be able to post a screenshot of it. I am talking about the front camera, when you start it the preview window that we see it is full of noise and it seems as if it has sand all over it. But the final picture is fine.

I happened to click the picture from another phone. Just see the Noise. Even if i am under light then also the noise is there but is very minimal in case if I am in complete Darkness the screen is filled with Noise.

I have this too (and I suspect everyone does)
The front camera is quite simply not very good. The reason the captured image comes out slightly differently is most probably because it's a longer exposure (than realtime preview) and there's also some noise reduction in the post processing)
So, I am 1 unlucky in 1000 who has a tianma lcd panel and facing screen ghosting since one month after buying the Note 7. Is there any software fix for this? I heard Redmi note 4x has similar issue. It doesn't affect performence but unpleasing to the eyes. I am not looking forward to replace the lcd as the phone us still brand new. It is imported, so there’s no way to return it. Thanks in advance.
Same thing is happening to me, sadly... Don't think there's a way to solve this through software, as it's a hardware issue
Bought Redmi Note 7S (Lavander) Onyx Black 4GB/64GB Yesterday , Faced Touch Ghosting.

Actually, I did a little goof. Turns out I have a BOE panel instead of Tianma which is good, but even on that panel, I still get some ghosting... so I can't imagine how bad it must be for the worst panels Guess that's what you get when you cheap out on a phone

Wouldn't I need to pay for the replacement? Or if covered under warranty as it's a manufacturing issue?
So basicly even if you replace the phone under warranty, you will get the same panel and the ghost screen will be there again after some use?
you can use this tips to modify the display color a little, to minimize the ghosting effect.
I have tianma with pretty nasty retention, and modifying the display kcal does the job.
**You need use custom kernel with kernel manager or simply a LOS-based ROM to apply this mod.
I have tianma, everything just looked fine, this is only "things" , not she or he , so for me just use it
Fix for now
I thought I was the only one. Bought this device from China and started having this issue after around 4 months.
The problem does not occur with pitch black wallpaper.
I did some research and found this app (Ghost screen).
It's not in play store.

I do not face the problem anymore.
Try it. And let us know.

Weird. I have a Tianma display, yet I am not experiencing any noticeable ghosting. Maybe your screen is faulty.
