Hi All
I did the latest Samsung update for my S7 edge 3 days ago.
I'm now getting very poor battery life. Full charge down empty before the day is out.
The phone occasionally freezes, at this time it gets warm, and the battery drain increases a huge amount. It does this maybe twice a day.
About ready to conact Samsung about it, but thought id see if anybody has had similar issues.
S7 Edge on Vodephone, Not rooted, running Nova launcher.
As I say it worked fine up till the update
Thanks Steve
What is your current firmware version ? This is the most important thing to post when asking something like this and actually expecting an answer.

I'm feeling a bit like a Noob, after coming from years of HTC and rooting etc.
But where do I find the firmware number. I'm currently looking in to rooting this phone. BUt still learning and reading through stuff
Steve
firmware number
g935fxxu1bph1
Cheers Steve
I'm having the same problem
Hi, I'm also having this problem since updating my phone on September 24. The phone freezes on the "always on" display, or the screen just stays black. I never had this problem before and have had this phone for months. I'm posting so you know this is not an isolated problem.
Samsung Galaxy S7, Android version 6.0.1. I don't know what else you need. Thanks.

I just received the OTA for Lollipop for my SM-G900W8, but I'm holding off on installing it. I've read some pretty negative feedback on it (e.g., Verizon), as well as from some Nexus 5 owners who say it's very unstable. If you are a running on a Canadian network, particularly Bell Mobility, your feedback is appreciated.
Also, did you have to clear the cache or do a reset?
Is there a way to delete a pending OTA update? I'm worried it will install next time I reboot the phone and I don't want that to happen until I'm ready.

+1 I'm with Rogers btw
I am also a Rogers customer...
I never received notice of the update and when trying through Kies, and checking update through the phone it showed my 4.4.2 as current. In speaking with Rogers on line and in store, they tell me that 5.0 was pulled by Samsung due to bugs, yet Samsung won't confirm, other than Norway. Have been trying to update to 5.0 or at least wait til 5.1 comes, but not sure how I get my phone to do this automatically, without having to flash the firmware. Phone is unlocked, but never rooted.
I tried stock Lollipop a couple days ago. I went back to KitKat a day later. I wasn't a fan of the way it handled sound with the whole interruption system and such. And I often turn off just notifications while leaving everything else on but it was overly complicated to do that with the stock 5.0 rom. I had a couple force closures on apps that were never a problem before and it was just, well, not as responsive. Although that might've needed to take some time? The pop-up notifications thing was annoying (blocked part of the app I was in some times) and the task switcher was slow and cumbersome compared to the fast list in KitKat.
My thoughts, anyway. I think I'll wait for Google to mess with stuff. I get the feeling that they upgraded with good intentions but got a bit too carried away with their ideas. However, I am just one person so, you know, others probably liked it a lot.
Thanks for the replies. I didn't hear anything bad specifically for this model do I decided to give it a try. Installation was clean. No glitches at all. I'll keep an eye on battery consumption and report back. First impression is that Google got carried away with themselves making gratuitous changes.

I've gotten the update on my Bell Galaxy S5. There seems to be two issues: 1) Battery life. I've been getting 2-3hrs SoT only, while I was getting much more than that before. 2) Sometimes the call audio drops. I can't hear the other person and they can't hear me, but if you call back it seems to work? It's really hit or miss. Currently investigating the battery problem but it seems to be some sort of wakelock caused by PowerManagerService.WakeLocks and PowerManagerService.Display. GSAM reports that Kernel is taking up 40% of the battery.
It's been over a week with lollipop. There was another update a couple days after I upgraded. There are a few things I don't like, but it seems to be working pretty well.

Hey guys so i switched from the Note 7 to the s7 edge... didnt want to take the risk of my phone "blowing up"
sooo ive been looking on how to root and roms for the s7 edge. Ive been searching and found alot of ways however
i am not sure which way would be the better way without tripping knox... my last samsung phone was the s3. Could someone help me out with this? I looked but there are so many methods i would like to know the best one and to keep my phone stock basically just wanting to add a ad blocker and remove all bloat. I currently have:

Android 6.0.1

The only root method for the S7 and S7 Edge is to flash the leaked engineering kernel. Follow this guide and you will be fine. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/verizon-root-knox-t3410624
Don't root your s7 edge my first Android phone when I don't feel like rooting and have everything on such as sync Google now and stuff. Amazing standby time with aod and 6+ sot

I did a reset, seems to have made it worse. My standby time is terrible and just usage in general. I bought it from swappa so unable to do that haha. It worked fine for the first couple months I've had it.

The system update includes the Android Security Patch of September 2016
I am currently on the fence about buying one of these. Efox currently have the white version for £108 to the UK.
Only thing putting me off is reports of very bad battery drains. Plus I would love to know if anyone has actually got contactless payments to work with NFC. I read that id did support Android pay but an update killed it. I would use it with Barclays tap and pay if I could.
I have no issues with it being stuck on lollipop at all but would like it to last me all day with light usage and payments work etc.

I use the Yotaphone (RU firmware 124) as my second phone so I mostly use the second screen and haven't had any issues with the battery life. Easily lasting two days. Can't help you with your contacless payments question as I don't use that.

I bought mine from Efox and received it last week. Using it a week now, I can recommend it, but with some sidenotes.
When you think of using the phone for two days without charging, that's hardly real life. Android keeps on draining the battery, even when you don't use it.
It does so on all Android-devices by the way, only Apple seems to have that covered waaay better. In one noght my battery level went from 30% to 8, without any usage of the screen.
Also this device sometimes gets really hot when using it. I have high hopes for the firmware it is downloading just as I'm typing this...
The EPD is very cool and a headturner, so if that's what you are looking for, BUY IT!

I never expect a phone to last more than a day as always charge when I go to bed. But would be nice if it lasted a day with light to normal use.
It will not bother me if it stops getting support but would be good if the get it running smooth with no heating issues and decent battery before they dump it etc. Will see what the update does to it.
If anyone in UK could test either android pay or barclays banking apps built in tap to pay I would appreciate it.

I ordered mine from tinydeal EU/DE warehouse (~144€) on saturday, just got tracking notification it's waiting me at the post office
I think NFC (payment) is disabled only when you're using power saving mode.

I was tempted to get it from efox eu as its 154 euro delivered to UK or its £103 from Hong Kong for white version. Its £129 from tinydeal to UK since exchange rate is so poor currently.
Just got to decide if I want it quick from Germany or slow from Hong Kong now plus which colour looks best.
i can't get the update installed , it's donwloading then reboot in TWRP but not update.
Any idea ? ^^

Having soms problems myself as well. My phone tried downloading the update several times today, very slowly (20 kb/s), and cancelled the download every time. Now it's saying there is no new download. while still on version 124.

In the New Power Safe mode in firmware version 134 there is an option to put NFC wallet in Power Safe mode or not. This would suggesties that the NFC wallet is still in there.
Updated after a new try without any bug so far... let's wait and see ^^
The update is about 182MB. So far so good

I am on EU 124 and likewise don't have a problem with battery life. Only undertook one test which was not touching the phone 14 hours, the battery deceased by 9 percent.
I haven't actually tried a contactless payment but I have been able to add a credit card to android pay which has been the problem point with other phones I have tried. Also the Barclay's app works perfectly which is a pretty good test of a phones security posture.
I am not sure whether to install RU 134 because everything is working so well and I believe, though I could be wrong, that I did have a problem with android pay on RU 124.

Downloads are really slow, servers are doing overtime in Russia I guess
I managed to download and install the update yesterday, it has added some more functionality I have briefly tried a bit.
Nice to see there's stil development going on.
Would be a great surprise when they would present us an Android 6.0 update.... but I'm afraid that's really wishful thinking.
---------- Post added at 11:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 AM ----------
Since updating yesterday, I'm on LRX21M.5.0.0-RU1.1.134 now.
Battery life still isn't great.
At YotaEnergy, there's an extra option called App optimisation. It kills apps when they aren't used for the last 3-5-7-14 days (selectable).
I enabled that option, but I'm not sure if it is on when YotaEnergy is Off. The 'App Optimisation'-option derives a level below YotaEnergy, so disabling YotaEnergy might as well disable every sub-option on lower level.....
Enabling YotaEnergy does put the phone in batterysaving mode (top and low bar in orange), even when I setup the rule that it only might be activated on battery level (Power save mode only when batterylevel is below 15%).
A bit strange behaviour in my opinion.
hi all,
it appears that my gs3 is having a haggard time with life at the moment, and its constantly freezing, locking up, giving not responding errors, and the touch screen also dies out.
its a shame, as it wasnt progressive. it started one day where it was in flight mode, took it out of F/M, and then it wouldnt even detect the sim card. though weird, backed it all up, re-flashed the rom, and it fixed it for about a week then it started to die again.
i even re-flashed it back to STOCK from sam mobile f/w and through ODIN, and that still didnt help.
so, i think its time for an upgrade (bit of a shame and would love to fix the GS3 if possible as i loved it) and i am wondering if i should just get s GS7 or splash out the cash for the Pixel? the specs seem similar to my research, and the S7 has been out for a while and is proven aswell. whereas the pixel is to be released in a few days.
opinions?
cheers
Jason

Hi guys,
I bought a htc u ultra when I was living in Australia but early this year I moved to Sweden. Now my issue is that android 8 is out, but my phone can't find the ota update. How come? I have received other ota updates in Sweden but the oreo update will not be found. Is there a way I can get it pushed to the phone?
I've contacted htc, but they are bloody useless, they just tell me to contact Google which I can't even find a email address or anything for help.
Hoping some bright spark can help me.
No help for you. Your device CID is for Australia and for this region the update is not yet released.
So why couldn't the retard at htc just tell me that? I swear they have the worst customer support ever. Told them this is my last htc mobile

Like they care about you. Statistically you got yourself a budget phone that is pretending to be of premium level. That means your next purchase will be in 2-3 years.
I'm blunt but that is life. I made my decision of getting this piece knowing there is almost no community and is already forgotten by manufacturer. It was cheap so I didn't care if I brick it by customizing. It the moment I'm working on a dirty port of LineageOS to it so I won't rely on HTC (unless I hit the kernel issues). If succeed I might consider sharing it bit wider.
But anyway - don't get too emotional. There is literally nothing that great with Oreo to get angry over. You could actually flash the LeDroid 2.1. It has been reported to work with Nougat backbone. So you get Oreo with Nougat Radio and Kernel. But then really say bye to HTC direct updates if they ever happen.

I did a factory reset and first few weeks was ok - much better than on nugat. But now after two month of use I see that slowdowns and lags are more common. Especially when the phone gest worm it can literatury stars to crawl.
Actually I'm thinking to upgrade to U11
Update: the battery is absolutely shocking now.
Tested it yesterday, left on a table after charging all night to 100%
Screen turned on twice throughout the day and after 6 hours and 25 minutes it's at 1% and the power off warning is shown.
Spoke to HTC support who have ignored my last 3 messages so won't be getting a HTC phone again.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Was a fantastic phone after first purchasing it (first 3 months) but now after 6 months - shocking

Did you try a factory reset?
Or check e.g. gsam batters stats from play store and have a look at doze/active stats or warlocks and so on, mostly there is an app (or system) running in background and consuming battery

Yep,
it's been reset 3 times so far.
I did have a look at gsam, what a great application - thanks!
Have a bunch of wakelocks - mainly around Google Fitness (I definitely don't use it) and a bunch of wifi 'wlan rx wakelock' too so currently troubleshooting that,
One thing I did notice however - on attempting to clear the cache partition, I have some notes in the 'recovery mode' screen
"handle_cota_install install cwpkg to /cache/cota/cwpkg.zip
handle_cota_install install cwprop to /cache/cota/cw.prop
E: cant open /sys/class/power_supply/battery/capacity
handle_cota_install: Cant mount /sdcard"
That battery one doesn't sound very promising.... perhaps that is one of the reasons why? The phone doesn't know what size battery is installed because it can't read the capacity configuration file?
I'm not rooted so I can't check to see if it's present myself
zzz
HTC should fix this sort of thing - i'm not sending it away to get looked at/reflashed for 3 weeks
Remove/never update the google app
