Just Switched From Note 7..help plz - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Hey guys so i switched from the Note 7 to the s7 edge... didnt want to take the risk of my phone "blowing up"
sooo ive been looking on how to root and roms for the s7 edge. Ive been searching and found alot of ways however
i am not sure which way would be the better way without tripping knox... my last samsung phone was the s3. Could someone help me out with this? I looked but there are so many methods i would like to know the best one and to keep my phone stock basically just wanting to add a ad blocker and remove all bloat. I currently have:
SM- G935V
Android 6.0.1
Baseband... G935VVRU2APG5

The only root method for the S7 and S7 Edge is to flash the leaked engineering kernel. Follow this guide and you will be fine. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/verizon-root-knox-t3410624

Don't root your s7 edge my first Android phone when I don't feel like rooting and have everything on such as sync Google now and stuff. Amazing standby time with aod and 6+ sot

I did a reset, seems to have made it worse. My standby time is terrible and just usage in general. I bought it from swappa so unable to do that haha. It worked fine for the first couple months I've had it.

Don't turn off anything after resetting only change location to power saving and go to "improve accurasy " turn off wifi and Bluetooth scanning. That's about it

You can't root the AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge - you can't root any AT&T android phones from what I understand.
They have locked the bootloader - Haven't been able to root for a few generations now.
Your best bet is the international variant or a T-Mobile Unlocked variant.

The locked bootloader has definitely slowed down development of rooting methods but so far it's still been possible. I've had an S3, S4, S5 and S6 and all have been rooted.
Personally I do believe there'll be a root exploit for the S7 Edge but it'll soon be patched.
If so then once you're rooted don't plan on taking any updates the exploit will be patched and that'll be it.
There'll be no custom kernels or TWRP.
FlashFire should work though and with that possibly Xposed with some modding possible.
All of this is purely conjecture of course.
There's a real possibility of no root at all as well.

Does anyone know what features will lost on the galaxy s7 edge if I were to root the device? Will Samsung pay still work?

So far there isn't any root available for any S7 Edge devices .
If there is eventually I'm assuming that yes Samsung Pay will not function.

Yup, from my understanding - if you root at all, EVER - Samsung Pay will be permanently disabled on that device.
Most root options will kill the KNOX chip which is needed for NFC security causing no payment options to work over NFC.

Uh...my AT&T Nexus 6 is rooted. Development has really dropped off, but I wouldn't say it's definitely not going to happen. I really want the S7 Edge, but the lack of the ability to root is making me hold off. I'm a huge impulse buyer and this is making me nuts LOL.

I finally broke down and bought it. Im coming from an HTC M8 and have flashed roms on every android I've owned. Didnt want to wait for new Nexus or M10 so I broke down and just bought a phone. I finally think im over the modding stage of phones because they just work like they should now. Finally!

I agree. I've never had an Android phone that wasn't rooted, but I have yet to see a reason to even root the S7. I realize there are hardcore modders out there that just need root, and that's cool and maybe someday (if root is available) I will root this phone as well. I just haven't seen a need for it yet.
For me, the biggest reason to have root on a Samsung phone is their poor track record with providing updates especially on carrier branded phones.
I still carry an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 and have full Android Wear integration because I have root and can install good custom ROMs.

OR MST as it will kill Samsung Pay all together
When I first got my S5 from at&t, I, of course, rooted it as soon as it was possible. It came with that lame ISIS card (that American Express) changed the name for obvious reasons to soft card. It used NFC and I could use it when rooted through an app in xposed to grant access.
This was all done with a locked bootloader. Seems like with each new phone it becomes more and more difficult, but usually find some kind of workaround.
I never tripped KNOX. It's still 0x0.
Regarding KNOX, it's my understanding that there have been some root exploits on previous generation phones that did not trip it. Is that incorrect?
I'm hoping something will come around for the S7 that will leave KNOX intact. I've never really used any NFC payment methods and could definitely live without them, but it does seem to me that this is the generation where Samsung Pay, Android Pay, etc, are really going to come into their own. . . .

It isn't root that trips Knox it's flashing a custom recovery and or custom kernel and since the bootloader is locked down tight I doubt seriously if we have to worry about that.
If there will be a root for the G935A FlashFire doesn't trip Knox and will work if a dev will build a Stockish T/W Rom.
Actually I'd be happy to root just for Xposed so I can use 3minit battery mod and center clock

Agreed. While A small part of me misses CM, I actually don't mind the TouchWiz on the S7. I would be happy staying stock and being able to run a few root apps. Titanium Backup, BBS, etc. . . .
Seems like folks keep tossing in that the phone may never get rooted. . . . Has that really happened with any of the flagships? It seems like most phones do eventually get opened up.

Yes the ATT and Verizon Note5 never had Root and after one of the updates the S6 Edge wasn't rootable either.
We'll see but IF someone does drop root on us don't unroot and take an update they'll patch that exploit ASAP

I see some videos on YouTube on people rooting their galaxy S7 edge with King root, is that a good method to use?

[Q] Latest Update Phone freezes

Hi All
I did the latest Samsung update for my S7 edge 3 days ago.
I'm now getting very poor battery life. Full charge down empty before the day is out.
The phone occasionally freezes, at this time it gets warm, and the battery drain increases a huge amount. It does this maybe twice a day.
About ready to conact Samsung about it, but thought id see if anybody has had similar issues.
S7 Edge on Vodephone, Not rooted, running Nova launcher.
As I say it worked fine up till the update
Thanks Steve
What is your current firmware version ? This is the most important thing to post when asking something like this and actually expecting an answer.

I'm having the same problem
Hi, I'm also having this problem since updating my phone on September 24. The phone freezes on the "always on" display, or the screen just stays black. I never had this problem before and have had this phone for months. I'm posting so you know this is not an isolated problem.
Samsung Galaxy S7, Android version 6.0.1. I don't know what else you need. Thanks.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 7.0 Nougat Root.

Hi everyone,
AT&T has just released Nougat onto their Samsung Galaxy s7 and s7 edge phones. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there was a root available for this phone (Samsung SM-G935A) on nougat.
Thank you.
Quick answer: NO
- Bootloader still locked
- Leaked Engineer Kernel not working for Nougat
- Exploit not discovered yet
Fantastic
That's the reply I thought that I would get. I wonder how long it's going to be before anyone creates a root.

That's not a good thing to hear. Well, I guess all that we can do is hope at thus point.
Yeah, that sucks. So does this phone. I can't believe I bought a phone made of all glass, that gets so hot it cracks so easily.
Even bought an expensive case for it. But doesn't matter, cause when it's cold out (Michigan winters), there is no stopping it.

I agree its not good to hear, since the release of the S8 is about a month off, this device will be forgotten as the others have once the " next best thing" comes out. Ive been on here since the windows mobile days, and ive noticed this trend since android started to take a foothold, once a new device comes out the older ones are neglected and fall into silent obscurity.

Ya as above stated the kernel doesn't work gets stuck in a boot loop, its the same kernel from marshmallow tried a few times its freaking dumb. I regret buying this phone I mean the locked boot loader is b.s. period had I known that there was no way to unlock it I would of waited for the one plus 3t

if you have time for it
when you root you can experience and install lots of mods and module to change systemUI and maybe boost performance & etc
and that means finding good mods, module & etc and read all instruction and if got any error time to troubleshooting.
it s fun but if you have time
:good:

About battery, many factors become influences. Some sources say stocks are better in terms of battery. In other cases, if we are right in managing rom and kernel we can get better than stock.

I think it depends on what you want to do with the phone, and how much you are willing to tolerate its stock appearance and system apps.
I have rooted or JB'ed every device I've owned to this point (5 or 6 in total I think).
From personal experience, the S7 Edge so far for me has been unrooted for 7 months and counting. Personal reasons for this are:
1) I wanted to try Samsung Pay (it came to Canada a few months ago and is not worth the hassle for me personally, so this reason is now dead, but it stopped me in the beginning)
2) Hardly any carrier crap-ware. Huge, and this is down to luck. I have a Rogers phone in Canada and it has no carrier crapware of note. If it did, much higher chance I root to get rid of it.
3) Notifications and app disabling. I cannot stand system apps sending me notifications I don't want. I've turned off the default Samsung ones and it has listened to me, which is great. The only two I have left are if the facebook or instagram system apps update and it tells me so. A few times a year, I can deal with that despite me being OCD.
4) Much better stock customization options. We can probably thank custom ROM developers for things like custom notifications, better lockscreen functionality etc. Now they're stock, I've got (just about) enough flexibility to leave it alone.
5) Good customization options, icon packs, launchers, that don't require root.
6) Performance is rapid and battery life is great.
So, YMMV, but that's my 2 cents. For me it's not worth the time or hassle to see if I can eke out a few more percentage points of performance when I'll have to back up my data and spend time trying out different ROMS to find the one I like.
Of course maybe I'm just getting older, but I did spend last Saturday morning JB'ing my iPad!

To be honest, I wouldn't get your hopes up. I bought a Galaxy S6 Active in 2015 and there's still no reliable root method (at least according to the S6 Active forum here). I bought the S8 Active a couple weeks ago because I love the hardware (SM-G890A is still the first phone I couldn't find a way to break in two years), but I'm not banking on root happening soon. I'd love to be wrong.
1. Root is nothing but an unreliable hassle anymore. No real reason for it like there used to be.
2. The active has ALWAYS been way behind on root, IF it gets it.
So confused as to why people keep picking up phones like the snapdragon S8, active etc and THEN coming here looking for root and ROMs. You want that kind of stuff get a pixel or a Nexus. Or spend 5 minutes on Google FIRST

There are lots of reasons for wanting root.
I cant use an adblocker without a VPN without root access.
I can't make some UI adjustments even with alt. launchers and things like KLWP
I can't remove some of the bloatware from Samsung and AT&T
There are others but the adblocking method alone is a good enough reason for me
