New pumpkin with Android 6.0 Marshmallow - Android Head-Units

http://www.autopumpkin.com/android-...00-480-resolution-steering-wheel-control.html

good find, seems odd it only has 1 GB of RAM when all these other new ones are supposed to have 2 GB.

So is there a future where our MTCB/MTCD systems would see Android 6 Marshmallow?

anyone know about that processor? Just says Quad-core Cortex A7 Processor in the picture but the specs list:
SKU: 27-AQTU72
USA Warehouse
OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
CPU: Allwinner T3 Quad Core
RAM: DDR3 1GB
Nand Memory: 16GB
Cold Boot time: about 25-30s
Boot time(2nd time): about 10s

What do they mean with the following:
5) Support Fast-boot. After the installation, this machine only need about 5 seconds to finish booting from the 2nd time .(Other machines typically take 30 seconds)
Is there some option in Android that they use to get the boot time down to 5 seconds? Or is this just like a standby timer which only works for 1 or 2 hours after switching off the ignition and the next morning one has to wait for 30 seconds again? If I google for Fast-boot, then I obviously only get results about the Fastboot mode to flash images...

In Android 6.0 there is the "Doze mode" in addition to the "sleep mode", right? Could it be that they are using Doze to increase the "Standby-Time" (i.e. no cold boot necessary) to more than 12h without draining the car battery?

It also says DVD in the title and that unit clearly doesn't have one.
Take it with a grain of salt

Guys, this is a preorder. It doesn't surprise me to see it on 1+16. It is low resolution so it should boot just fine if android is set to low memory mode.
Allwinner is sort of an lower end version of Rockchip. It is like Mediatek to Qualcomm. Most likely it will have the Allwinner A33 processor. Here is the spec: http://dl.linux-sunxi.org/A33/A33_Datasheet_release1.0.pdf
It is a quite old processor, first released in Jan 2014 but newer than the RK 3188 that is from 2013...

i talked with pumpkin. the 2gb unit and this one are just tests. they do not know which one they will be going with yet for full production

So they're taking pre-orders for a product that they aren't sure they're going to make?
That's shady even by Chinese standards.

did anyone order this?

Well, I found out that their German store says they have it in stock, if it is correct. But I dont understand why they made a product with 800x600 screen resolution and 1GB RAM in 2016! Also Joying units are about 3cm shorter? (better cooling possibilities) Do I want to pay more because it is android 6? definitely not...
http://www.autopumpkin.de/autoradio...sb-hd-dvr-obd-lenkrad-steuerung.html?___SID=U

I ordered one through autopumpkin.de and I can confirm the unit has indeed 2 GB ram. I haven't got the fast boot to work yet since the wiring in my car isn't properly set, it seems to miss additional continous 12V current. I will get to that in a later stadium since it's a pain to open my dashboard and get through the wiring jungle.
One nice thing is it supports multiple USB devices through a USB HUB, even though Pumpkin doesn't mention it and states it doesn't work on any of their other units. Right now mine gets internet access through a USB 3G dongle and it plays music from a USB thumb drive.
I do however dislike how they closed down the Android version to the bare minimum. Widgets are not enabled and the two widgets on the desktop can't be removed. Also a lot of Apps won't install on this unit, for example 3G Watchdog Pro and Osmand+ navigation.
Support on the autopumpkin forum is good but restricted to the bare minimum functions as advertised.

@Jerry_R is it possible to upload marshmallow launcher, mtcmusic and radio? Dab app would be awsome too if available... Thx

Hopefully that's just a matter of getting the right settings in build.prop
It might need to be changed to pretend to the store that it's a nexus or galaxy or something.
If you can share the contents of that file people will be able to help.

The unit isn't currently rooted, I'm still looking into things as i just got it. There is no DAB radio app, this model has no DAB module installed.

The problem isn't that it won't install from the play store, the problem is it stops at about 80% of the download, then attempts to install but at some point a message pops up it can't be installed on CF or USB storage. (even though there's plenty of space left on both)

can you post some pics of the unit?

MK809IV RK3188-T - Internet problems

Hello there!
I hope some of you could help me a bit! Yesterday I got a brand new MK809IV Android Mini PC
I wanted to install DroidMote Server from play store, but it required root. I tried to go to UGOOS.net and download their rooted version to their MK809IV (They don't look a like, but they had same model number).
It then bricked and after trying 20+ .img-files, I finally found one that could bring me the device back!
But now I can't turn on wifi or bluetooth - It says it does, but it doesn't! :'(
Can someone help me find the original 4.2.2. firmware for my device? I've found some pictures of it:

It works with the device pictured above? How do I install custom Roms pls help
I have the same Mini PC I think
The roms in this post don't work for me. None I have found are the original either.
I'll add photos of my stick to see if they are the same. Maybe someone else has bought the same device and can backup their rom for us.
I found a rom that may work for you.
I just installed a rom I found that works. Its not the original but I can now use wifi and bluetooth and its Kitkat 4.4. It may work for you. It is MTK rom - probably stands for Mediatek which is the chips on my mini pc.
http :// ugoos.net/index.php?route=product/download/get&download_id=47
To install I used RK Rom dumper tool, but there are others. Rom dumper is pretty simple though, just load the firmware and click update. Just have the mini pc connected to your computer in recovery mode. Hold the reset/recovery button on the side as you plug the USB into the side Micro port. You computer should recognise it as a new device and ask for drivers. Run rom dumper go to second tab and click firmware button, choose your rom, then click update. Let it do its thing and the mini pc will reboot a couple of times and it should work.
MK809IV
There is one big problem with the MK809IV which was not in the III version - Heat dissipation. I recently purchased one of these devices and it crashed and recycled to boot sequence. I eventually got it to work, but when I tried the Kodi on line streaming app it crashed, it was an older version, which I removed and updated. I also tried an alternative program Internet Radio (V.Tuner) I found as long as I did not use the streaming apps, it worked, obviously indicating a high CPU usage problem.
By the way that that red plastic slider switch does nothing its not connected to anything
Diagnostics:
I found that the CPU Rockchip 3188 was reaching up to 50C with a thermal sensor attached to the chip. With the open case, I actually got Kodi to work for a few minutes, during that period the CPU rose to above 53.5C and shut down. The chip is a quad core and as such needs adequate ventilating and cooling.
Using an old Pentium Flat heat sink, I coated the surface of the chip with thermal paste and clamped the heat sink to the chip of one corner of the sink. This has to be done out of the case. (Be careful not to damage the reset button beside the CPU) With the heat sensor attached under the plastic hobby clamp. I again ran Kodi and the maximum temperature was around 41C a reduction of 10C after listening to music on line the device work seamlessly for several hours. The maximum temperature reached was 45.6C which appears to be within the tolerance of the CPU chip.
Conclusion:
Poorly designed and inadequate ventilation. No heat sinking of CPU under continuous use. At present I am awaiting seller's response on EBay, have given them a full report of the problem with this model, which many buyers are experiencing.
Solution:
Not recommended to buy, there are now Android Media boxes available for a few dollars more which have a proper well ventilated housing and appropriate cooling devices. With full internet streaming plus DTV PVR and many other functions.
Running a quad core chip in such a confined space is ridiculous! Might have been OK for the earlier single core chips on the MK 802!

MK809IV wifi fix
Hey guys I was looking around and noticed this thread. Figured I would just drop a message for anyone that has one of these. I noticed yesterday when playing with the unit that the odd time I would actually get wifi reception when moving it around. I took it apart and re-located the antenna. Now I can stream fine from 20 feet away. I posted the fix for you guys here and showed you what needs to be done. If you don't have the red slider like I do, cut a slot in the side of the unit and leave the antenna hanging out of the side. (btw, I just joined and saw the antenna above picture is installed correct, unlike mine was, but I don't have issues with my unit any further. Looks like a different chipset as well)
I still have not resolved the Bluetooth issue, but I think I have an idea. I believe they are using the same antenna for both the bluetooth and wifi which may be causing the issue. I may try to separate them at a later time... but for now it is working so I am not messing with it.
I posted the video.... but it won't let me. Search MK809IV media center, S805 WiFi fix in Youtube if you want to see how to get it running.

Had a real tussle with the Chinese seller, opened a dispute on EBay and he agreed to refund. Then told me he would send another. After a week of garbage reverted to Paypal dispute and sent it back. Its arrived in China so refund in full will be coming shortly. Fast becoming very disillusioned with Chinese sellers on Ebay, they insult you by offering $1 compensation etc and lie to Ebay about what they will do. If you have any problems, best to open a dispute via Paypal, they are far more efficient and at least you get your money back

XTRONS® Pure Android 4.1.1

Anyone have comments or warnings about the single-din Android head unit here:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0107L1XNY/
It is the D788A Model, with an "Mstar 786" processor, Android 4.1.1 and 1024x600 native display.
I am having to give up on the RoadNavi C315 (winCE) that I bought due to a slew of issues and problems (it's an utter piece of carpola).
Since I have a Fiat 500, it is a SINGLE din opening and very difficult and expensive to convert to dual din. Conversion requires cutting AC ductwork and buying a $200 kit to replace the AC vents with tiny vents on the sides. So I want to avoid that if I can. But single-DIN options are few and far between. The C315 I had before seemed perfect, but the software and hardware are trash.
There aren't many single DIN options, so.... There are a few with Android 4.4, but those have 800x480 resolution, so I would prefer this one despite the slightly older software.
Some questions on the Android 4.1.1 Mstar 786 systems:
1) Some reviews say the factory settings are locked and the passwords given on forums don't work. Manufacturer says this is to keep from damaging the unit. Can this be bypassed? Should I be worried if not?
2) Does this CPU/OS combo normally work with the Bluetooth stack for Torque Pro?
I couldn't find a thread on this model or processor - anything else anyone has to say about it?
I am not rich and already wasted nearly $400 on the C315. I probably won't get a fraction of that back selling it because it has a hardware audio issue. I bought a replacement board, that fixed the problem for two hours before it had the same problem. So I want to make sure I'm not hoodwinked by a piece of trash radio again.
Of course, Android is going to be a requirement. I looked at various MHL/Mirrorlink options and none of them are reliable. I'm sick as ****e of unreliable products.

What kind of car do you have?
Have you considered trying to make a custom bezel for a double din stereo install in it?
I have a 2004 Dodge Intrepid, which was never intended to have a double din head unit, and I was able to do this with it.
I grafted part of a bezel from a different vehicle that supported a double din into my cars original bezel.

Hi
I know this is now an old thread, but I thought my reply might be useful for anyone lookning at this unit on ebay/aliexpress etc.
I own this unit and its very good (for the money). Good gps reception, good bluetooth and even fairly decent wifi. Its ugly as hell, but thats the main reason I chose it - its face-like-the-back-of-a-bus looks deter potential thieves from stealing it.
Install Navmii on it and its absolutely perfect for GPS navigation. It connects to your steering wheel controls and has loads of connections for speakers, amps, extra usb etc in the back. You can even connect up a reversing cam to it which will automatically change the screen when you put the car into reverse.
It has several different positions for the screen and it will remember your choice, so once you've found the position thats right for your vehicle, it will automatically go back to that position every time the screen opens until you decide to change it.
The only downside to this unit is the manufacturer. Dont expect any support at all from Xtrons as the standard response to any question is "contact your reseller for further advice", even if it was sold directly by them.
A lot of useful android features are locked down "for safety reason of drive"(...) with a pin which they will refuse to give you. Its 3368. Using that pin will not give you access to anything which can brick your unit, but does allow you to access the car settings menu so you can turn off the annoying beep-when-you-press-anything noise, change the car logo, access the equaliser and a host of other useful stuff.
Its got an ancient version of android on it, but it has the full play store and runs Chrome and Navmii perfectly, connects to my phone as soon as I get in the car and also lets me connect my raspberry pi via the aux video in so I have a dedicated trip recorder which is better than any dashcam on the market. Switching between apps is fairly quick and its very customisable, which makes using it whilst driving easy. It has 2 micro sd card slots, one purely for navigation maps and the other for expandable storage.
I wish there was a firmware update for it that I could trust but the only one xtrons have provided is for a double din unit and I'm not going to risk bricking mine until I get a copy of the current firmware as a backup.
I hope this helps anyone looking at this unit and wondering if its worth it. In my opinion, it is.

UPGRADE of CarJoying Head Unit Hardware for Android 5.1.1

I recently ordered and received the hardware upgrade kit offered by CarJoying to upgrade my head unit to Android 5.1.1, which can be purchased for 165$, which you can supposedly get back $130 by sending your old parts back to carjoying. However, I have not contacted them or done that yet. See: https://www.carjoying.com/Joying-blog/42.html. This is how it worked for me.
A) Here is what came in the box. It was basically an entire new unit minus the Front Panel/LCD display. They sent me a new box with motherboard etc already installed, and a new touch screen which will be swapped from the one that is on top of the orignal LCD.

Attached below are a couple more images of the replacement unit they sent me. One thing I noticed right away was the new board has dual wifi-antennas(diversity?) which my old board did not.
B) So the process of doing the upgrade is basically this.
1) Remove your old front panel from the old unit.
2) Disassemble the front panel/LCD unit
3) Replace the touch screen front layer.
4) Reassemble the front panel/LCD unit
5) Attach to the new unit
6) Done
Attached below are some pics from the process.
The instructions that carjoying sends are mostly correct. My notes are:
1) remove the LCD from the plastic from by lifting up on the LEFT (buttons side) because the LCD has little clips that stick out on the other side.
2) remove the tape along the edge that holds the touch panel and LCD panel together carefully and reuse it
3) watch the black bezels on the edge of touch panel. Each of the edges is a little different width and that will help you line it up properly with the LCD
4) the old assembly touch panel attached to a little daughter board on the LCD board. The new touch panel will attach directly to the head unit motherboard and this daughterboard is no longer used. Apparently the new mainboard have direct support for talking to touch panels. This means one of the flex cables(the widest white one?) does not get reconnected (goes to the daughter board), and the new flex cable(little brown one) for the new touch panel does get connected to the mainboard.
This is what you get after this process, a new MCTD system that looks like your old MTCB system.
Next will be seeing it it is worth sending the old main unit back to get the "$130 deposit" money back or if it is not worth it after shipping costs etc. My total cost will be $30 shipping from joying + $x my cost to ship my old parts back to them in Shenzhen.
Have you had it up and running yet? Any noticeable improvements?

It is much the same.
I have noticed a couple of small things such as previously if the radio was playing audio would cut out if you went from the engine running to battery only, or if you were on battery and started the car. During those quick power on/off's previously the radio would lose sound every time and you had to totally exit the radio app and start it again. That was an annoyance to me that seems to have been fixed in this new version.
Biggest difference to me is running stock firmware instead of Mayalsk's version. I miss it and hope he can make an Android 5 version for MTCD-type devices soon.
I am still learning about these things, what makes Malaysk's ROM so special that everyone loves it so much?

No.
At this moment, only the 4.4 units with 7" screen (no fulltouchscreen) can be upgraded.
FYI. I have received the instructions from carjoying to send the parts back for the $130 refund/deposit. I am hoping the parts will fit into a USPS $27 flat rate medium sized international priority express box. I will be sending them back next week.

There are a ton of things. Off the top of my head:
- there are lots more things you can configure in the settings such as the font/color/size/format of the time/date on the top menu bar (I miss that, the stock is just a very small time with no date).
- you can turn on showing the network traffic on the menu bar
- you get access to be able to customize what is and is not able to automatically startup, and even write your own app startups on boot
- he seems to have fixed the issue of apps on the SD card having disappearing icons, stock icons turn blank for any apps moved to SD card
- his roms already have root/sudo/su configured and installed (it is a pain to do manually via multisteps) and include titanium backup which is very handy
- a whole new advanced settings screen
Really he does a bunch of small stuff that add up i guess is the best way to put it.
thanks, that does sound better. there is so much info on xda, sometimes it is hard to find basic stuff
I'm about to try this. however...
I'm unfamiliar with these little ribbon connectors. Can you give me a little tip on how they work/unlock them? I imagine they are some kind of zero force type.
I've not taken my other unit apart yet but the touch screen ribbon is marked 1-6... I suppose it will plug in with the fingers down?
I do hate to waste someone's time in replying to what might be a simple or obvious answer but if you have time on your hands...
Edit:
Got her figured. Rock the little brown tabs out, then cable in, then push in the brown tabs.
That's what I think.

The fuse support he has that merges the internal flash and internal SD into one filesystem is a great feature and totally eliminates filling up internal storage so fast and having to do all the "Move to SD Card" stuff.

To clarify, does Malaysk's ROM work only on the customer upgraded Joying head units or does it also work on Joying's brand new out of the box 5.1.1. 2016 models?
The Fuse support is a much needed feature when the internal storage is only 1GB on my 10.1".

Does anyone know if the fm radio and Bluetooth modules are replaced with this upgrade for the RK3188 1024X600 unit? I don't have a motherboard pic handy of the current configuration to see if those modules are soldered into the main board or not. My largest complaint with my unit is the crappy radio reception and the distorted Bluetooth sound when streaming from my phone. If these components are replaced with the new motherboard...are they any better? Also what about the internal microphone? Thanks in advance!
Old topic, I know. Just for kicks, I emailed Joying today to see if any upgrade option like this is still available.
They said, no.
MUCH better off now just getting a new octo-core system. I actually have upgraded my core board to a PX5 octocore now as well.

You probably need to post screenshots of your device info page and firmware versions. One though is was this plug and play? or did you have to wire it? If you had to wire it perhaps the one of the power wires is not connected and the device can't keep power to the unit when you turn the car off. These things need access to power to fast boot. Mine has a setting to keep the unit on for a while after shutting car off, but that's not the fastboot option, on mine fast boot is just built in, no settings(that I've seen), which is why it may be hardware or wiring.

everything is wired correctly no extra wires , I contact the seller they told me they basically disable the features so I don't need to mess with it but that's the thing I want to mess with it lol

I guess the question is are they telling you that what you have is normal operation? Seems odd but perhaps they have no Fastboot.

Right and for the most part for most units I would agree with them, but are they saying your unit is designed to cold boot when car is turned off/on?
I'm not sure what they're trying to say I know I've been asking them since May of 2020 about it lol and nothing , I just know like 3-4 of my old androids I had the sleep option ,car settings the extra settings all them other features this one I bought it cause it said it had split screen but only one app opens the split screen which is igo but it closes as soon as I press split screen option and this one also has hdmi put in the back besides it being a 10" because I bought a SUV but it's not working like I want it to , I been thinking of changing like software/mcu I think it is idk . do you think that would be a good option to do ?
I can't speak for what custom firmware options you have, but I can tell you I have no sleep options either, what I have is a single option how long to leave unit active after accessory power is off, but no options for how long to sleep before hard power off. As I understand it most units won't hard power off for several days. I've only seen mine hard boot once when I wasn't pushing the reboot button.

Xtrons PQS80UNV (PX6) VW... all kinds of problems

Evening,
So I picked up a second hand Xtrons PQS80UNV and I'm fast realizing why it's second hand. While the unit is fast and seems to have even got some form of uprated cooling from the manufacturer, the software is absolutely broken. If the unit auto sleeps, it will come back and most of the time, all of the apps will be broken. Sometimes I experience a rapidly flashing white screen followed by a reboot. Other times I experience a rapidly flashing white screen with no reboot. Other times, it'll just say every app on the device has crashed "xyz keeps stopping" until I reset the device using a paperclip.
All of these issues feel like ROM issues rather than hardware, but they are making the device a complete pile of ****, quite frankly.
Does anyone know if these issues are widespread? If so, how are people fixing them / working around them? I've already uninstalled Chrome and WebView which has resolved a whole host of issues, but this sleep issue is still a real problem and the only solution I currently have is having the device power down after 30 seconds of sleep mode. Not what I want at all
Help anyone?
Thanks
I sent this through to Xtrons Support:

who provided me a firmware update:
SG-PX6-PQS系列安卓10.0软件 修复google 报错问题 gs11_rk3399_10.0_ota(20220517).rar
This actually made the device worse!!!! The rapid white screen issue didn't happen before and now the stock Launcher is absolutely b0rked.
With the clock all messed up.
And the icons are now the wrong size.
****ed.
Okay, so I've received another firmware update. This one has at least fixed the b0rked UI. Whether it's also fixed the broken sleep mode, we'll see.
I am not overly bothered about switching to Hal9k if the stock firmware does the trick. Although there are some neat little pros, I want to keep MultiPlay and I can't see how I can on Hal9k.

First going to hal9k you must ensure your unit is compatible with hal9k's. Not all the px6 are compatible....just specific platforms
Thanks. I didn't know this, I'll check extra details. I'm not that bothered about switching. If auto sleep on the stock Rom worked id be fine. I never had these issues on the PX5.
I'm going to see if I can extract the MultiPlay app. Early signs aren't positive with this new firmware.
I'm wondering if it's an issue with later version of Google Play Services?
Another day, no luck
Had a recurrence of the flashing white screen today

You can find the specific firmware for px6 on Hal9kI got a PX6 PQS. Have MOd 5 installed and it works great. Better than stock. All the OTA updates for MOD 5 installed as well. Sleep function and everytrhing else work just great- Just look for firmware PX6 android 10 and you are good to go. Never heard of anything like compatible with HAL9- HAL9 makes modded firmware for ALL Android HU......nothing to do with compability with HAL9. I think you are messing things up, because you don't know what you are talking about.

Hal9k started giving support Only to MTCd units. The support for.other platforms is quite recent.
As the guy that asked for it the best answer is to check compatibility.
Before saying that nonsense about i don't know what I am talking about....do your own checkings.
