Serious Battery Drain after flashing stock ROM - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My S6 Edge Plus has had good battery life. I flashed a Note 7 ROM onto it but because of some bugs I decided to flash the latest stock Samsung ROM for my phone from Sammobile on the device. After doing this, I've been experiencing significant battery drain for no reason.

That above was from last night when I had aeroplane mode on, although I was using a sleep tracking app it doesn't usually use that much battery. Starting at 100% before I went to sleep I'm now down to 40% in the morning. This battery drain isn't just at night, but all the time. It appears that Android OS is using the most battery with 48% usage as seen in the image.
Has anyone else had any similar issues? If so how did you fix it? Thanks.

Stock roms have a lot of bloatware thus lots of background processes thus this search for an extreme debloated stock rom even note5 rom will do

I have the same problem, can you help me in private i am not experienced with this but its annoying...

Becase you reflash stock rom, you need to apply deep sleep fix. The reason is bug, caused by tripped knox flag. To resolve this, flash kernel with deepsleep fix, something like http://forum.xda-developers.com/s6-edge-plus/development/arter97-kernel-galaxy-s6-edge-plus-t3189913

Try flashing Audax rom.
i too was on stock but decided to flash a custom rom after battery life got worse.
So far so good.

I had this same problem with my G928W8. I flashed the BPF1 firmware when I got the handset, because it's the firmware for my carrier, and saw massive battery drain just like yours. I debloated, greenified, and still got very poor performance. I fixed it by flashing the BPE3 firmware the handset came with. Even without debloating the battery life was fantastic. Now that I've debloated the ROM, Based on the battery loss I see at night, I should get ~14 days stand-by time. I'm getting ~4-5 SOT now, and even with moderate to heavy use during my work day I come home with ~50% left if I leave with ~80-90% in the morning.

Omg Guys I have the exact same issue with my S6 Edge Plus. "Android OS" drains my battery like hell, I go to bed with 100% and flight mode and after 7 hours of sleep I've got only like 50% left. The only thing I did was rooting my phone, after I decided to unroot it again (Don't ask why ), using Smart Switch to make everything to stock again. After that the issue with the "Android OS" battery drain starts to appear, it bothers the **** out of me! After three days of reflashing stock rom and resetting everything I almost thought my phone was bricked. Now I'm gonna try out your solution.. I'll update later
Edit: I did root my phone again and the Battery drain is gone, still on stock rom but with TWRP recovery. This is crazy that a tripped knox could cause such a "bug" like a battery leak like that...
thx to Mohutop for the hint!

UPDATED:Which KERNEL is the best that won't drain a lot your GS2 battery?

As far as I concerned, there are plenty kernels for GS2: KE2, KE7, KE8, KF1, KF2, KF3, KF4, KG1.
But after I flashed the [2.3.4] VillainROM 2.0 for SGS2, I tried two different kernel, they are KG1 and KF2. But I found out KF2 works way better, it can last about 8 more hours than KG1. The kernels are from

I did full wipe before I flash the ROM. I use Odin3 v1.85 flash the kernel in the download mode and works perfectly.
SO, the only difference is battery life.
UPDATED:
This morning's screen:
Around 3% drop after 7h.
Not really remarkable, but I guess KF2 is better.
What do you guys suggest?
Please, tell me which kernel you are using, the Rom and the battery life.
Screen shot is WELCOME!
Cheers!
kernel
That sounds unlikely. I didnt test it yet but i will test it. Atm i have KG1.
a question a bit off-topic: Can I flash an stock kernel of a different ROM to my current ROM?
For example:
I'm using the KF3 spanish ROM (2.3.3). Can I flash only the kernel of KG1 (2.3.4) to my ROM?
I have KF2 for a while now, I'm very happy with it.
Did a test a few days back, went to sleep and put the phone in airplane mode, battery was 87%.
When I woke up (8.5 hours later) battery was 85%.
A 2% drop in 8.5 hours, not bad.
While i have no evidence, I too believe this to be true, when i first got the phone I was on KF2, lasted ages, now it struggles for 10 hours. I don't fully understand the android OS so i just do as the ROM devs tell me.
Bit more complicated than just a kernal is battery drain .
Firmware modem apps running all can play a part .
jje
I am using litening ROM 2.1 with KG1 kernel for a few days now and I think battery was better on KF2 so I switching back to KF2. I participate in the poll when I am sure which gives more battery life.
Off-topic: I have lost count about the number of updates that Samsung released in different parts of the world. But sure that there were atleast couple of updates for every region.
Once the GS2 is released in US (if at all it's released there), there will be 1 update in 12 months and there will be countless articles in every blog. Somehow updates just don't roll out in US.
KF3 Kernel KE7 modem Villain 1.4 rom no battery complaints .
Once 2.3.4 becomes a full release i shall try that .
jje
Could you post your screen capture of the battery usage, either of the kernels would be fine. If you can post both of them, I will be really appreciate that.
I will post my screen tomorrow.

I don't think a kernel has too much to do on battery life. But Push email exchanges, Active Sync and some apps. Use ATK, problem solved.
I'm using Lite'ning 2.1, bloatware removed, sync on - I take my phone off charge at 8.30am, it's normally on my desk not being used for around 3 hours and unless I start using it, the batt has never dropped below 100%.
I'd like to leave it longer to see just how long it will stand by for on 100% but I want to use me phone!

I am having trouble with the batter at the moment. I am using villainrom 2.0 with KF2 now, using xda app for about 25min and my 13% is gone. Last night, I am using KG1, I turned the phone into the flight mode, after 9h, the battery drained from 98% to 26%. That was really strange. I have nearly 150 apps installed, most of them are small simple apps like for finance, business, social networking, tools, not much background running apps.
I wish someone can explain to me.

While the Android OS bug still reigns supreme, stock KG1's battery life is unparalled for me, as long as I keep WiFi off. With WiFi on, Android OS is always higher than 50% and the battery life is crap, but it has always been like that on all kernel versions up to now.

The bug that I'm suffering from only kicks in with certain routers like mine.
I lose 25% in 6,5 hours with WiFi on and the phone left completely idle. Thank you Samsung. Great coding...
Sounds like the wifi sharing bug! Fixed in version KE7 upwards. What version are you using?

I use ATK all the time, I don't have Push email exchanges, I only have Google Account Sync and whatsapp sync in the background.
I also use autorun manager which prevents some services restarting.

I quit.

I f÷׶ing quit.
I've been using this galaxy s2 for months but I quit.
Enough, simply enough.
This thing's battery life is so poor its just unusable. Rebooting the device makes me lose half the battery, and I can't fix it.
I really like this phone for it's performance but except for that it sucks. I've been trying to fix this for months but I cant get it working. No matter which ROM or which kernel, a full battery can't even hold one single evening of reading 9gag. (It survives just a hour, maybe a little more...)

The drop in the middle is a reboot
I've not used the phone all day, but at the second I touch it it drains from 70% to 10% in not even a hour, only app running was 9gag. It does NEVER survive a school day, no longer than 1/1.5 hour screen on time... The battery in it is brand new, and I even had it replaced twice by Samsung.
I'm sorry all, I'm taking my iphone with me tomorrow. This is no more fun.
You obviosly have media scanner issue, since sdcard is the first one listed. Install BBS for more info, but I'm sure it's media scanner. It can be fixed quite easily though.
About losing half of the battery when you reboot, it's a KK's bug on S2.(That is KK you're using, right ? ) It is annoying, but can be solved. Just plug it into charger, reboot to recovery, and then reboot the recovery itself. Battery percentage should fill up.
And at the end, you should't have rooted and installed a custom ROM(s) if you can't solve a simple problems like this.
With sammy based ROMs, you wouldn't have had those issues, but KK based ROMs are not perfect, so either deal with it, or simply don't use them.
You certainly have a problem with the mediascanner... A clean install would probably fix it...

Dude... Just use BetterBatteryStats! Or GSM Battery Monitor to see what Apps are eating your extra battery juices!
I also recommend you to stick to Stock-JB-based ROMs (like NeatROM JB), since it's one of the Custom Stock ROMs that's gonna give you a longer-lasting battery. I recommend NeatROM since it's packed with Apolo Kernel, which also a good kernel for battery!
I use SlimSaber KitKat by fusionjack, since I want features. But if you want to enjoy more Screen-ON time with your S2, better get NeatROM :good:
Tell me what this is:
A simple reboot causes major battery loss.
And its HELL annoying
That's the bug on every KitKat based ROM, I already told you. You haven't actually lost your battery p
ercentage, it's just showing wrong informations.
Just reboot to recovery with your phone plugged into the charger, and then reboot the recovery itself, and your battery should fill up.
And install BetterBatteryStats, let your phone idle during the night, and post the log here, so we can tell you if there's anything specific draining your battery.

I apologize then, didn't know it happens even on stock ROMs.
It won't even boot up today, it turns on and immediately gives 0% battery and shuts of again, it was fully charged for sure.
I don't have the time right now to try and get it work again. I'll just use my iPhone...

Battery Life Issue (Is this normal battery life)

I've been noticing my battery has been draining a lot lately, and the majority is going to Android System. I did a search and found another post about this with no answers. I'm not getting much more than 12 hours on a daily basis, and I hardly use my phone. I'm including a screen shot of the battery usage. Is this a normal usage amount? I remember this phone being better on battery than this.
What are you guys getting for typical usage?
Anyone have any suggestions?

as of yesterday, I'm seeing the same problem. Didn't have short battery life before that but several apps updated yesterday morning and now I have something like 50% on Android System and an unusually high "Stay Awake" - we're talking something like 10 hours when I wasn't using the phone for anything in particular - certainly not 10 hours worth!
So, I'm wondering how we tell what is keeping a phone awake?
usually we need more info such as what rom your using and when it started to happen..
second post might be one of the apps thats causing it so id backtrack them n see if u can find the culprit

I had big time battery issues when I was running NI2, and similar to what you were seeing Android System and Kernel, my battery would be nearly drained after about 10 to 12 hours. I rolled back to NE9 and my battery is back to being great I am usually at about 60% after about 10 hours. For what it's worth apps and programs were the same between both builds. Not sure this is much help just figured I'd share my experiences and what worked for me.

This was the solution I feared. I'm having massive battery drain on NI2 as well. Unfortunately, won't we lose "HD Voice" or VOLTE if we roll back to NE9? Not a deal breaker I guess.
It's really too bad Samsung/Verizon broke the phone with an update. This is seemingly pretty common now. Hope another small update gets released soon. I'm on international travel starting Friday and having a phone dead by 3pm doesn't sit very well with me.

Yes, you will lose HD Voice / VOLTE unfortunately. That was a sacrifice I had to take I couldn't deal with my phone being dead by 5:00pm.

I hate that I have to flash my phone back to a prior version because Verizon/Samsung broke it.

Wake lock detector and greenify are your friends...
My about phone.
so, after posting the second post in this thread I'm happy to post that my battery consumption returned to normal by the next day. I don't know what was going on but I'm still on NI2 and regular battery consumption - what I've been used to seeing on the phone all along.
that said, it's great to know about some of the apps that are available for better tracking/info about wake-locks and battery use.

Note 3 Battery Life

So guys, I've seen on forum people posting battery results and some get around 6 and some get around 9 hours of screen on time.
Can someone explain how that works? I barely get about 3 hours of screen on time and it just sucks. Some Roms I get 4 hours.
I use greenify, low brightness, plain wallpaper, have disabled many apps i'm not using. I still see drops in battery. I unplug my phone at 100% and drops abt 5-6 % in few minutes.
On Audax Rom and Audax kernel right now. Is there a right combo of ROM and kernel I should use?
If someone could shed some light, that would be great.

so tried finding audax 2.4 but couldn't.
In kernel auditor, I go to CPU voltage and on top right corner click global offset and set it to -25?
also installed app ops...
for that do i go click on an app i want to disable wakelock for and in the app it shows permissions such as read contacts, modify contacts but all the way to the bottom it says keep awake, I just turn that off right?
just wanted to confirm if i'm doing it right or not.
thanks!!
AryaMod 6.0 + Lean Kernel 6.3
(Around 30 bloats freezed + Power save ON)
No Greenify or PowerNap.
Minimum 6 hours SOT. (Half a day in Wifi and 3G in office hours).
I came from CM to TW based ROM and battery is better in TW based.

You Sir are a genius, the two changes except audax made a huge difference and i see the difference now.
Thank you for your reply. and from this search I got to this link, I haven't applied all of it yet but looks promising,
so if anyone is looking for more battery life go here and follow the thread:

The thing with the battery life is dependant on ROM mainly, as long as you are not undercloking and all those with a custom kernel. When the early batches of Lollipop ROMs were being released I used to get 6-7 hours SoT at an average, I was shocked with the result, as it was at least 25-30% better than KitKat. I hit even 8 hours two or three times. But then with the later LP releases that SoT was dragged down to something like 5 hours! I don't know! Probably Samsung realised that 7 hours SoT is too much and as Note 3 is an old device they probably thought about messing it and force it to lower or something like that? Don't know! I don't even care about battery life any more, I charge my phone twice a day sometimes, but it wouldn't hurt to have 7-8 hours of SoT, I mean when I did have it I sure remember of enjoying it, to a good extent too.
my battery life also poor, i'm on cm 12.1 unofficial and get around 2 and half hours of sot.
As far as I know, TW based ROMs give more SOT (with certain Bloats freezed)

New Battery Life Discussion

I know there are many like this. But some have very basic methods, that may or may not work. Since most/all threads are currently inactive, I thought of creating a new one. MOD: YOU CAN DELETE THIS THREAD IF YOU WISH
So let's start giving this 2 year old phone, a battery life. Every post claiming with tips/tricks should also provide a screenshot of their Screen On Time, and Time on Battery (since unplugged/ full charge)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...crypted-galaxy-s6-battery-life-t3120047/page2
The above is a link to an xda thread, where a person claimed to have some improvements in battery life due to encryption.
There is no tricks or adjustments. there is no way we are in the hands of Samsung for some we expect updates
In my case, I use arter97 kernel, underclock CPU to 1200/1600 (default 1500/2100), I read ebook over 7 hours a day, the battery can last one day with wifi always on

Rom ? Any screenshot?
I think that I may have worse battery life than MM, also for some reasons the estimated battery life is stuck at learning device patterns. Any thoughts?

I have to restart the device after about 4-5 days
100-0 3 hour st. 2 year degradation
I've realised that most roms just have false claims of giving better battery life. Nothing works.
I've got s7 edge battery in g920f. Can't get 2h SOT
How is Your stats guys. I think that Android N drain my battery even more that 6 did.
I have s7 edge in my s6 flat with NNE 3.0 rom battery 6h SOT from 95% to 7% and all things activated wifi, gps,Aod,screen brightness 75%....

I dont use bt and for calibration let the battery discharge to 0 and get the phone shutdown and full charge the battery.
Do this for 3 or 4 cycles and that all i do.
