I f÷׶ing quit.
I've been using this galaxy s2 for months but I quit.
Enough, simply enough.
This thing's battery life is so poor its just unusable. Rebooting the device makes me lose half the battery, and I can't fix it.
I really like this phone for it's performance but except for that it sucks. I've been trying to fix this for months but I cant get it working. No matter which ROM or which kernel, a full battery can't even hold one single evening of reading 9gag. (It survives just a hour, maybe a little more...)

The drop in the middle is a reboot
I've not used the phone all day, but at the second I touch it it drains from 70% to 10% in not even a hour, only app running was 9gag. It does NEVER survive a school day, no longer than 1/1.5 hour screen on time... The battery in it is brand new, and I even had it replaced twice by Samsung.
I'm sorry all, I'm taking my iphone with me tomorrow. This is no more fun.
You obviosly have media scanner issue, since sdcard is the first one listed. Install BBS for more info, but I'm sure it's media scanner. It can be fixed quite easily though.
About losing half of the battery when you reboot, it's a KK's bug on S2.(That is KK you're using, right ? ) It is annoying, but can be solved. Just plug it into charger, reboot to recovery, and then reboot the recovery itself. Battery percentage should fill up.
And at the end, you should't have rooted and installed a custom ROM(s) if you can't solve a simple problems like this.
With sammy based ROMs, you wouldn't have had those issues, but KK based ROMs are not perfect, so either deal with it, or simply don't use them.
You certainly have a problem with the mediascanner... A clean install would probably fix it...

Yeah, this bug used to happen to me a lot, a clean install would fix it, also maybe try a new rom? I've been on PACman since 4.2.2 and it's amazing=p
The battery is really good. Maybe try SetCPU as an app? - It's really good
Its some time later now, tried all of it, still no improvement
You have some serious sh*t going on your phone, dude...
I am browsing 9GAG also on my S2, and I can survive 2 Hours straight PLUS listening to music PLUS using Viper4Android (High Quality Sound Applied)... And has an extra 30 minutes to spare!
It's either something badass app running on your Background, or your Battery is just weak...
I have a 2-year-old Stock Battery and I can perform these... So... Yeah... Your setup sucks... Don't blame your s2... :good:

Dude... Just use BetterBatteryStats! Or GSM Battery Monitor to see what Apps are eating your extra battery juices!
I also recommend you to stick to Stock-JB-based ROMs (like NeatROM JB), since it's one of the Custom Stock ROMs that's gonna give you a longer-lasting battery. I recommend NeatROM since it's packed with Apolo Kernel, which also a good kernel for battery!
I use SlimSaber KitKat by fusionjack, since I want features. But if you want to enjoy more Screen-ON time with your S2, better get NeatROM :good:
Tell me what this is:
A simple reboot causes major battery loss.
And its HELL annoying
That's the bug on every KitKat based ROM, I already told you. You haven't actually lost your battery p
ercentage, it's just showing wrong informations.
Just reboot to recovery with your phone plugged into the charger, and then reboot the recovery itself, and your battery should fill up.
And install BetterBatteryStats, let your phone idle during the night, and post the log here, so we can tell you if there's anything specific draining your battery.

Fuel gauge chip problem. I have that bug even on stock rom.
I apologize then, didn't know it happens even on stock ROMs.
It won't even boot up today, it turns on and immediately gives 0% battery and shuts of again, it was fully charged for sure.
I don't have the time right now to try and get it work again. I'll just use my iPhone...
Have you tried checking your battery?
Duplicate or more than 2 years old batteries can give such results

Okay, today my phone completely died. It won't stay on for longer than 10 minutes, after that the screen starts to flicker and the phone shuts off.
I already tried to reflash stock rom, but the problem stays there.
I tried a battery from a friend's S2, that was confirmed working in his phone, my phone simply won' t stay on.

any way to fix it?
is it the problem of TWEAKS and EXT MGR setting?
I tried Tweaky Rom after using Stock JVH and i like the whole Rom and lock screens and etc , but my battery wouldnt last more then 10 hours , flashed back to Stock JVH , rooted , flashed KC1 modem and getting 2 days easy with moderate use , on Tweaky it would drain about 15% every few hours , to bad as i like his ROM a lot

u means TWEAKS and EXT4 will cause the problem?

although people argue wether it works or make sence the following sorted it out for me on dakry v10RC6:
using Titanium Backup

just try to wipe batt stats from CWM make sure you full drained battery first and charged to 100% then go to cwm wipe batt stats remove charger and reboot.
**disclaimer some what related
as per codeworkx
Why my phone only charges to 94%/96%?
The Android OS wont ever let you actually charge to 100%, because charging it to 100% would wear-out the battery alot faster then charging it just under maximum.
On Sammy Roms it just usually tells you its at 100%, when its really at 94%/96%

get systempanel from market so you can get more details about exactly what process under the system is using the cpu.. but my guess is it is the std suspend bug in gingerbread... that is why i am still running froyo.
I did not found solution too, now I am staying away from gingerbread as far as it is possible.
I could add that my 4 month old micro sd kingston class 4 suddenly got 8 bad sectors maybe ginger was on it for too long...

jbdroid's link helped me alot on this issue. I'm running Tweaky's and almost did what Hitec did, because the rom would deplete the battery in 6-8 hours occasionally. Stock JVB would last 36 hours on average. So every once in a while I'll pull the battery, sd card and SIM wait a few minutes and re-boot. It's not much of a problem because I have a mix of batteries with different capacities (3500,3000 & 1950 mAh) and I charge them on external chargers exclusively. I also wiped the batt stats and calibrated. I installed a program called Autostart, which kills some services like updates and maps after start-up. Now I get about 20-24 hours use, not as good as stock JVB but acceptable enough to stay for a while on Tweaky's. And the speed is a good trade off over stock.
You are not worried about your nice phone slowly dying ?
Things you did have absolutely no impact on this HUGE GINGER BUG. On darkys 9.5 i have 72 hours standby or more that i have never recorded because of course some usage in the meantime always happens.
I have been using my s2 only 1 day on GB so i cant really tell you was the battery life good or bad there, but i i have some news for ICS
stock ROM users.
I was actually really depressed by the ICS battery life (i upgraded from GB same day i bought brand new S2), battery life was terrible,
turning on/off syncing, mobile data, gps etc etc helped a bit, but not that much. i still couldent get full day out of it with moderate use.
Again, im on stock 4.0.3 atm.
And then, a miracle.
Let me say right away, i am aware that these types of batterys (i have stock one btw) dont react on this whole "fully discharge then recharge" thing, but i do think now Android ICS as a system does! Cuz it was exactly what i did-i said what the heck doesent hurt to try and i was playing games like crazy when battery was on 10 or less percent so it wld shut down. then, i connected charger and used as normal on charger until it was fully juiced. repeated 3-4 times and what do you know... i now get 50% OR MORE WITH THE SAME BATTERY!
I am not really sure what happend there. Did battery gauge reset? Did ICS "learned" my battery properly? I dont know. All i know is that i am now able to get trough whole day (i get up 7:00AM, go to sleep round 01:00) with only 1 full charge. I dont even bother turning off wifi sometimes when i go out and dont need it.
I have been also reading around the web that some people got the same result. No calibration trys, pulling battery etc etc...just let it go trough few cycles and let system/phone "calibrate by itself".
Not exactly sure if this is a solution, bug, feature or whatever. I just thought it was worth writing to you guys
cheers, loop
why dont u share some screenshots
np mate, but in evening or tomo morning when i come home
Well, you actually shortened your battery life span by draining your battery to nothing, you should probably google what happens when you drain lithium batteries, and how it affects capacity, and not just
dont react on this whole "fully discharge then recharge" thing

You probably did reset your fuel gauge as your phone had no power to hold the gage memory, but you could of saved yourself a lot of battery capacity, by using search and finding out how to reset the battery gauge on the Samsung galaxy s2. Hint* search extweaks and Siyah kernel.
Anyway at least other people who read this, hopefully learn and do it all the easiest and battery efficient way and not

Hope this helped, and for future reference do not drain lithium batteries, whether it is your phone, laptop, ps3 controller. Try not to get it under 50% for the best efficiency, but the more you drain it to minimum charge the faster it degrades.
Did you uninstall anything? Did you change any settings? Sounds to me like wakelocks that were removed more than ICS "learning" your battery.
Take it like this: i upgraded to ICS over GB and did full wipe. First day i installed lets say 20+ apps that i use. mostly utilities, few games.
In this period of "recovery" i only updated few apps, installed GTAIII and Flipboard.
Let me make this perfeclty clear as i stated in OP and as deniso wrote: i am aware of todays batterys and how do they work. i am not senior android user but i know my way around,so as i stated, i know i dident "FIX" the battery itself. But i still think the main problem here is not the battery itself, its how ICS uses it.
However this:
Try not to get it under 50% for the best efficiency

is just... funny. "try not to" ok i get it, but below 50% is when u need your phone the most, should i carry a portable generator with me? no offense.
Please, do not throw rocks at me. I am aware what i wrote, and i am aware that it doesent makes sense with todays batterys and smartphones.
however,i still do have my better battery life, whatever u say or dont say.
Ill make some screenies when i come home.
Ty all for your feedback.
I said TRY not to, I personally use my phone all day and my battery only gets down to about 75% -85% at the end of the day, so it takes nothing special for our phones, unless you do heavy gaming or movie watching all the time.
And what I said, which wasn't throwing rocks at you, is that you probably just reset your fuel gauge as there was a lack of power to the memory chip, and like I said in my first post, Search EXTWEAKS and Siyah kernel as they have that exact function in them which does not require you to drain your battery below critical values or at all.
hello again, just posting screenies that i promised

(its in croatian, but you can see what is important)
So as i said before. This is roughly really 50% MORE then what i was getting first few days on ICS. now, i dont know still if this is very good or average, but
it gets me trough day for sure. As u can see, i posted "screen on" time, cuz i was not getting even half of that before and i still have 34% left!
The day was filled with 5-6 emails, i watched 4 youtube videos, did cca 29 mins on surfing and cca 30-35mins in plants vs zombies. few sms, few calls.
So, im not playin smart here or anything, i just have more batter with whatever i did, and it makes me happy
Cheers
You getting more battery after 3 days could quite simply be due to the fact that you flashed new firmware and it always takes a few days for the kernel and modem to 'settle in'. You will never get a true indication of battery drain straight after flashing firmware.
And to the guy above who said he can use his phone the whole day and it never falls below 75%, wow!
I would love to know what firmware, kernel/modem combo you're using.

I've been noticing my battery has been draining a lot lately, and the majority is going to Android System. I did a search and found another post about this with no answers. I'm not getting much more than 12 hours on a daily basis, and I hardly use my phone. I'm including a screen shot of the battery usage. Is this a normal usage amount? I remember this phone being better on battery than this.
What are you guys getting for typical usage?
Anyone have any suggestions?

as of yesterday, I'm seeing the same problem. Didn't have short battery life before that but several apps updated yesterday morning and now I have something like 50% on Android System and an unusually high "Stay Awake" - we're talking something like 10 hours when I wasn't using the phone for anything in particular - certainly not 10 hours worth!
So, I'm wondering how we tell what is keeping a phone awake?
usually we need more info such as what rom your using and when it started to happen..
second post might be one of the apps thats causing it so id backtrack them n see if u can find the culprit

I had big time battery issues when I was running NI2, and similar to what you were seeing Android System and Kernel, my battery would be nearly drained after about 10 to 12 hours. I rolled back to NE9 and my battery is back to being great I am usually at about 60% after about 10 hours. For what it's worth apps and programs were the same between both builds. Not sure this is much help just figured I'd share my experiences and what worked for me.

This was the solution I feared. I'm having massive battery drain on NI2 as well. Unfortunately, won't we lose "HD Voice" or VOLTE if we roll back to NE9? Not a deal breaker I guess.
It's really too bad Samsung/Verizon broke the phone with an update. This is seemingly pretty common now. Hope another small update gets released soon. I'm on international travel starting Friday and having a phone dead by 3pm doesn't sit very well with me.

Yes, you will lose HD Voice / VOLTE unfortunately. That was a sacrifice I had to take I couldn't deal with my phone being dead by 5:00pm.

Wake lock detector and greenify are your friends...
My about phone.
so, after posting the second post in this thread I'm happy to post that my battery consumption returned to normal by the next day. I don't know what was going on but I'm still on NI2 and regular battery consumption - what I've been used to seeing on the phone all along.
that said, it's great to know about some of the apps that are available for better tracking/info about wake-locks and battery use.
For information...
I installed the latest c firmware (d in build prop) with LG flash tool (NOT UPGRADE), a CLEAN install.
wiped(factory reset) before flashing, then in flash tool cleared and made a CLEAN install and factory reset after to be safe (3 resets) .
Now I get very few screen misses, and screen on time 4.5 hours.
Before this I got screen on time maximum 2,5 hours.
Just wanted to let you guys/Girls in on this as it worked perfect for me and my wife.
Thanks for the placebo

Hi smaberg,
I was wondering if you are on the Euro 815 version of the G4? Based on your post I'm guessing you are? As a guy who knows what he/she is doing, I was wondering if you could make a flashable zip of the version d firmware? I have a mac and my understanding is you need a pc for the LG flash tool?
Figured I would ask and would greatly appreciate if you could help!!
Do you have the same set of apps installed as you did before the firmware and resets?
I saw better battery results on my second G4 vs my first, some of which I assume was because I installed a lot less apps on the second unit. Which seems reasonable to me.
What device is the OP using?
Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
I'm on international 815 (Euro).
Still using the exact same apps(didn't use LG backup Restore as it brings back the old draining Barry problem from my old backup).
And NO I can't make an zip, as it would skip some important steps. I mean I can make it, NO problem, but then you will end up with the exact same problem add the old.
hey Smaberg, can you outline the step to flash the new version? I'm using 815, but since i'm residing in Asia, my phone is not seeing any upgrades.
Yeah i also like to get exact steps you made to flash

I know, but compared to before, with only 2 hours, sometimes even less worth stock a and b I'm pretty ☺ happy, now I'm going to deactivate some junk and see the results, and when I'm done I'll share it.
I'm trying to get the best battery without root, then with root and some of mine scripts and files mod. And we'll see where we stand. In the end maybe an ROM pure made for battery as in the old days. If some still want this? I thought/think people mostly want bling bling and speed...

I would definitely be interested in a battery life based ROM. I find that premium phones have more than enough power you need (if youre not a gamer) so as long as the UI is smooth battery life is more important to me.
Regards,
Ravi
Only used 4% battery and got this screen on time. With everything on.

That's weird, you have the economy saver logo activated but still have 62% of battery life...

You can turn it on manually which some people do to prolong battery life rather than just when on low battery.

Correct I have it on pretty much all the time. It doesn't effect anything I do on the phone and I get a lot better battery life as you can see combined with the use of App Ops, DisableService, and greenify

I don't use it because of the annoying orange colour change... How did you get rid of that??
Introduction: Important shizz is underlined and in bold
So for the past 2 months I've been flashing away with my new V20. Of course one of the first things that I decided to do was to get a CM/LOS ROM on this bad boy. And thus is where the problems begin. Before I went to any of the AOKP or RRemix ROMs I went straight to LineageOS first as a base point. I installed it successfully did all the necessary procedures (format x3, wipe errthing x3) and then installed the ROM, gapps, and Magisk.
Average battery life with watching a total of 30 minutes of Youtube videos sequentially on my 15 minute breaks, texting throughout the day, and one hour of music playing from spotify (streaming) in the morning. My work is a pretty set schedule and by no means am I on my phone all day or anything like that. So with a total SOT (screen on time) of about 45 minutes I got 5 hours of battery life.
Yes I did a clean clean clean stock install of a Lineage based ROM
No I have no other apps running and draining my batteries
I really do not think its hardware related because it can be fixed!
How I tried to fix it
Now I try all the other ROMs. AOKP, same deal even with tweaking through Kernel Auditor on the Play Store, so I figured okay maybe just a fluke with these two ROMs. So I go and use previous builds of LOS and AOKP, nothing still the same issue. I go and use RRemix, same issue.
So heres the issue, 100% cpu usage while screen is on (cpus are maxed out on the little and big clusters) unless screen is off, then it goes into deep sleep, and the phone gets ridiculously hot which in turn drains the battery even faster.
Now at this point I'm so frustrated and had already settled on going back to stock until I downloaded Advanced Kernel Tweaker from an XDA post from the OnePlus forums. Its the same chipset (snapdragon 820) and tried applying different profiles. I got an extra hour using these tweaks but I still knew something was going wrong and I cannot figure it out for the life of me until I dug deeper reading posts about this stuff from several months ago and people having issues of overheating and an average of 5 hours of battery life
In one of the threads I read someone mentioned that it was just Kernel Auditor and its coding had been done in a way that was unoptimized. Because when your system detects you opening an app it boosts your little/big cluster in order to make up for the cpu usage so theres no lag. Well I thought okay I'll just use something else, so I spent money on EX Kernel Manager and by God, still the same issues, UNTIL, I hit the button at the top that is called performance mode.
BY GOD IT WORKED, HOLY CRAP MY CPU USAGE ISN'T JUST AT FULL USAGE
My temporary fix
So now, I am constantly in performance mode with using EX Kernel Manager but I have control over my cores!! And they are no longer at 100% usage.
Here are pictures of the new stats with EX Kernel manager and uptimes of my little and big clusters.

Little
New battery life on ONE CYCLE
ps. the stent of this cycle was 5/22/2017 15:00hrs to 5/23/2017 19:00hrs
Summary of the problem
So as you can see, there are all of the speeds being used instead of just the one of 1593MHz when performance mode is off. If people would like pictures of 5 hours of constant 1593MHz speeds I can show you them, but I really don't feel like wasting and overheating my devices battery for the purpose of just pictures. Heres a taste of it without perfomance mode on, by the way, the little speedometer gauge in the top right of this image is the performance mode.
Conclusion
So in conclusion, performance mode on using EX Kernel Manager, Advanced Kernel Tweaker scripts installed and using Project Zhana Battery profile, no more overheating and only getting 5 hours of battery life. YES this is a temporary fix but I hope arming XDA with this knowledge can push people and developers to find a fix. Thank you for your time reading this.
Meh. i dont have this issue. Seems like a problem with yours. Ive never had overheating issues :/ i just checked my Freq. usage. No issues. mine has24 hrs uptime with the following usage: 1593-59 min, 1478-20 min, 1401-15 min etc etc. you appear to be having issues on yours alone.

Thank you for your reply, are you on LS997? Also what ROM and if its just my device, how come even with CLEAN installs I have this persisting issue?
Yes I am on LS997. I run EmotionOS(Though i think i am on an unreleased build). You COULD have a faulty device.
EDIT: i see you state you are constantly at 100% usage. You need to check and see what app(s) are hogging the cpu. Something is obviously running if your phone runs hot and are at 100% usage.

I thought this too, so I did a clean clean clean install of a rom and ONLY installed monitoring software and I still had the same issue, but heres the thing that trips me out man, how come software can fix it if its a faulty hardware issue? Any ideas? It has to be kernel related.
The problem here is that you got the V20. LG phones are back to being garbage again...sadly.
