Hi I'm pretty stupid but I'm planning to install a custom kernel called Prometheus v1.7.1 for my s7 edge and only to set SElinux mode to permissive but does installing a new kernel like remove anything like data or stuff? I'm not new to rooting or roms but custom kernels are just new to me.
Usually it's done right after flashing the custom rom so...you would need to do a full wipe actually before flashing it those were the steps what does the original thread say make sure the kernel is for your phone before flashing

I have stock rom and flashed prometheus without wiping... SElinux didnt change to permisive according to Magisk thou..
I would recommend doing a hard reset before flashing a custom

Hi installing A kernel is easy here are the steps
1. Make a backup because if anything goes wrong you can restore ur setting
If you want to make a back up go to Backup and restore click backup ,back up everything: System,Data,Cache, etc
make sure you backup ur stuff to ur micro sd card
2. Make sure the kernel is compatible for your device and the rom
3 Flash the kernel an enjoy
4 By the way can you tell me the kernel name and link for the ROM and the kernel so i can check if its compatible with ur device/Rom
If i helped you please press the thanks button
If u have any problem contact me
there are many kernels for s4 based on 4.2 and 4.3
perseus, adam and many more
do remember to create a backup using recovery
philz recovery is best
then download the zip of any kernel (do remember to check its compatibility with ur OS version i.e jb or kk)
any flash it using recovery

I thought that for the I9500 almost no custom kernels are being maintained anymore. Better to stick with the one that comes with the rom.
Hi everyone, I'm new here.
So can anyone will help me find good kernel for my phone? I was having some problems when I used stock rom 4.4.2, i downloaded the KTSGS4, AdamKernel, Ausdim and Arter97 kernels and put it to sd card (i did choose the TW one), when i flash each one of it, i saw the samasung logo for 1 seconds and directs me to odin mode, only working kernel is arter97 but it makes my phone hot and extreme battery consumption.
I was using cm12.1 before and kernel is one from arter. I dont know what to choose whether AOSP or touchwiz because i dont know my phone whats in it. Is custom kernel will work for custom roms only? I dont if its gonna work for stock rom too.
If you want my specs so here:
Galaxy s4 (Korea SHV-E330S) KitKat 4.4.2
32 GB Internal and 2 GB Ram
QuadCore 2.6 GHz

Custom kernel works on certain ROMs which the kernel is designed to. Even if you're on stock, you could anyway install custom kernel but you need to watch out the annoying Knox notifications.

Has any one root the T-Mobile s7e with it already on 7.0?
I have been looking but not sure . I tried to root with the method on here but I get stuck in a bootloop when it restarts after flashing the AP boot file in Odin I have tried several ways. I want to know also. I'm running 7.0 and g935t .
Yes been out for a few days, haven't tried myself yet.

Using ambasadii rom for few days and it works nice
Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/android-nougat-7-0-beta-1-rom-test-t3498664
But you need custom recovery, and rom is debloated + rooted
Just get a custom recovery, disable encryption and flash latest SuperSU 2.79 or Magisk. All good
Am I missing something.....why are the people above me saying to put a custom revovery on tmobile variant.... afaik that's not possible.

I think that every exons proccesor (Europe) can be rooted.
But im not sure. I got my S7 from germany and its unlocked. No TMobile or other carrier.
Everything works good ?
T mobile is snapdragon. There is 7.0 root, it uses another engineering Bootloader
Right but there's no custom recovery, no custom kernel, no custom Rom, which is what the user was suggesting. Doesn't make sense. At least not for US variants.

OP, i thought was asking for root. Flashfire is basically our only recovery atm for usa hence locked bootloader.. no custom kernels but we can tweak kernel via kernel author. We have custom roms but it's TouchWiz based.(stang 5.0 rom is awesome) Still better then having nothing imo.. xposed+root apps+romcontrol+system write, makes sense and worthwhile for me.
What custom ROM can I install and what guide or flash tool do I use? I have tried many with a bricked s7 edge I have and no luck. Just would like a nice ROM like RR or Ironman to install and a guide to doing it so I'm not doing something wrong

The snapdragon versions of the s7 edge have locked bootloaders preventing them from getting custom recovery preventing them from flashing custom roms.
The only unlocked snapdragon s7 edge is the Chinese version.
9350.
Meaning only the 9350 can use custom roms in the snapdragon section of the forums.
The rest of the users are using exynos processor phones.
If your phone is bricked use samsung smart switch to restore it to stock.

You can root on Oreo now, no custom ROMs because the bootloader will never be unlocked.

Well, if you want to try old nougat roms, search for deluxe rom 7.0 or elite rom 7.0 (that was the name iirc), but whatever old version you use, be sure that your bootloader version and modem versions are the same (in case rom installs modem too- like in alexndr's devbase), if they aren't same then you will get no signals and baseband unknown.. Good luck
Warning : some old roms caused imei unknown/efs corruption (i.e : superman rom iirc)

You can't install custom roms through odin, custom roms can only be flashed in twrp.
You can only flash stock roms (having the same bootloader version as one already installed on your phone or higher) in odin.

I'm almost giving up, too much headache for a game. Think I can't revert.

I don't play games on phone lol, but pokemon go shouldn't be detecting magisk's system-less root.. ofcourse I'm not updated on it though.
For a fully non-rooted or system-less rooted, and debloated rom, use alexndr's devbase for max compatibility and stability. You need to clean flash stock rom (with matching bootloader version as already in your phone or higher) in odin first. Then reboot phone in download mode again to flash twrp in odin, then boot directly into twrp from dl mode (DON'T ACCEPT SYSYEM MODIFICATIONS PROMPT IN TWRP !! AND TICK DON'T ASK AGAIN) and format data > type yes under wipe option. And stay in twrp..
Then go to alexndr's devbase thread and download the devbase rom zip from the androidfilehost page CORRESPONDING TO YOUR CURRENT BOOTLOADER VERSION and flash it in twrp. Then flash latest magisk in twrp.. and boot into system ..
After that you should have a systemlessly rooted debloated stock rom. Any game or software that doesn't checks hardware knox tripping status should work per my knowledge. If you follow the exact steps above and still that game/app isn't working that means its either checking knox hardware status or bypassing magisk's safetynet protection.

You need to restart because twrp may not be in systemless root mode.
Also, to see your bootloader binary version, go to download mode and it will say alongside it in like
B:6 K:7 S;7
Where B is the bootloader version number. Good luck.
