Well, if you want to try old nougat roms, search for deluxe rom 7.0 or elite rom 7.0 (that was the name iirc), but whatever old version you use, be sure that your bootloader version and modem versions are the same (in case rom installs modem too- like in alexndr's devbase), if they aren't same then you will get no signals and baseband unknown.. Good luck
Warning : some old roms caused imei unknown/efs corruption (i.e : superman rom iirc)

You can't install custom roms through odin, custom roms can only be flashed in twrp.
You can only flash stock roms (having the same bootloader version as one already installed on your phone or higher) in odin.

I'm trying to return, already have installed with success twrp and tested some roms from xda (tks a lot for then, all of them are awesome) but I want to put in use this phone to my grandson play pokemon go and the game don't run on rooted phone's, I install a rom apparently official but still showing phone have non authorized software ( I guess is twrp). I'm almost giving up, too much headache for a game. Think I can't revert.

I don't play games on phone lol, but pokemon go shouldn't be detecting magisk's system-less root.. ofcourse I'm not updated on it though.
For a fully non-rooted or system-less rooted, and debloated rom, use alexndr's devbase for max compatibility and stability. You need to clean flash stock rom (with matching bootloader version as already in your phone or higher) in odin first. Then reboot phone in download mode again to flash twrp in odin, then boot directly into twrp from dl mode (DON'T ACCEPT SYSYEM MODIFICATIONS PROMPT IN TWRP !! AND TICK DON'T ASK AGAIN) and format data > type yes under wipe option. And stay in twrp..
Then go to alexndr's devbase thread and download the devbase rom zip from the androidfilehost page CORRESPONDING TO YOUR CURRENT BOOTLOADER VERSION and flash it in twrp. Then flash latest magisk in twrp.. and boot into system ..
After that you should have a systemlessly rooted debloated stock rom. Any game or software that doesn't checks hardware knox tripping status should work per my knowledge. If you follow the exact steps above and still that game/app isn't working that means its either checking knox hardware status or bypassing magisk's safetynet protection.

You need to restart because twrp may not be in systemless root mode.
Also, to see your bootloader binary version, go to download mode and it will say alongside it in like
B:6 K:7 S;7
Where B is the bootloader version number. Good luck.

Root my note

Hi,
I am not a programmer / developer but just wanted some expert opinion on how to root and what are the advantages. I have now ended my warranty so please can someone let me know:-
1. How to root safely without messing up KNOX
2. Can I bring the device to the same state if something goes wrong while rooting
3. Is there any substitute for firmware updates
Thanks,
Subbu
Rooting trips knox. You can try Towelroot, probably won't work. Flashing recovery will allow you to flash superuser/obtain root, or just flash a new Rom that's pre rooted.
Any samsung device can be Odined back to stock if needed, just not knox.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium HD app
What version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1(2014) do you have? Towelroot won't work with the p600 or the p601. Also it is better to use Obin then a one click root. Read through this topic it explains the whole process.

Towel root works for P605 up to latest software update as in the link below. The trick is to downgrade the boot.img using odin to a lower firmware e.g. NF2, root with towel root and then upgrade boot.img back to current firmware version. It keeps Knox 0x0. Try and keep your Knox 0x0 status in case it becomes important to you. Flashing custom recovery and kernels will trip knox, and using other rooting methods is likely to trip it also.

Good luck.
Thanks for all your responses.
I am looking at orion's website and clear how to root now. Please can someone clarify these for me :-
1. We can root the note but need to remove KNOX (after rooting) as it will not work properly for rooted devices?
2. Is it possible to get the note to the current state if something goes wrong during rooting. If yes, how can we do this?
3. Is it possible to install latest firmwares either from dev community or official Samsung? If it's from the DEV community, then wil it be a simple task of updating firmwares like how we do for official Samsung or do we have to start the process of rooting / stock recovery etc. again?

1. You are correct KNOX will not work and will give annoying and intrusive notification about your tablet being modified. But that is a small price to pay. Your warranty will be invalid after rooting, also a gift from KNOX, and it cannot be reset back to valid.
2. Yes, it is possible to reflash stock through Obin by downloading the firmware from Sammobile.com, not sure if I have the web address right, and flashing it like you do CF-Autoroot and twrp.
3. You cannot take ota updates because it will see the custom recovery and say your system has been modified. Again you can flash official updates from Samsung by using obin and Sammobile or for faster updates use a custom ROM which is actually probably better, but it depends on what you use your tablet for. If you want I can link you to some custom Roms that are stock based or CM based.

Many thanks Orion. I have SM-P600. Basically, I want to root because I want to remove the official software and other bloatware.
1. Clear
2. By reflashing the stock, you mean setting the note 10.1 2014 to it's original state but through the 'odin-flash method'? So, if I do this, then will I be back to normal (including KNOX) and be able to download firmware updates? How do I do it through
3. What is the difference between sammobile formware and custom ROM?
Two more questions
1. Is it possible to download android 4.4.4 / Android L and install it in my device now than waiting for Samsung to officially release it?
2. Will it be possible to root, remove the unwanted software and then unroot to come back to normal again?

Not quite. Reflashing the stock ROM via Odin will return your device's software configuration to the way it was out of the box. No custom recovery, no root, etc. However, nothing can reset the KNOX counter. Once tripped, it's tripped for good. Reflashing a stock ROM will not allow you to receive OTA updates, you will have to download updates (from SamMobile or another site) and flash via Odin, or use Kies to update. Updating the firmware on your device through either method will cause you to lose root and custom recovery, but you may be able to re-root and reflash custom recovery.

SamMobile only hosts Samsung official stock firmwares for devices.
And yes, you should be able to root, uninstall unwanted system apps, and then unroot. But again, you will be unable to accept OTA updates.
Understood about the fact that if I root, then I should forget about KNOX once and for all.
- Ok, how do I unroot? Is that straightforward.
- If sammobile releases a firmware update for SM-P600 (let's say android 4.4.4 for US), can I install that via KIES (without root) though I am in the UK?
- If I root, I can then install android L as soon as it is available in the DEV community?

1. Yes I have never had to unroot any Samsung device but as far as I know it is just that simple.
2. As long as it is for the p600 then yes it is compatible you should be able to flash without root through Obin.
3. This is a developer to watch this is a CM based rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2938652.
This is a TouchWiz based ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793898. They will be updated quicker then Samsung firmware. Here is a complete list of Roms available for our devices. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723420

Speaking of which, how does one go about restoring the P600 back to stock? I'm starting to miss some of the S Pen functionality.
Download the stock firmware and flash via Odin with the tablet in download mode. Backup anything important first.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium HD app
Chainfire includes an unroot in his SuperSU app, which means you can just root to remove stuff the use the unroot function and then you have stock. There also Roms available that are just debloated stock without root installed. You have to root first to install.
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Free mobile app
So, if we root to remove stuff and unroot through SuperSU app, will KNOX mess up again? To be honest, this is all what I want to do.
Another question, if we root, how can we get android L - the same method as odin flash?
1. No knox won't come back if you use the unroot function it just removes root.
2. Yes, obin flash when Samsung release, or install a custom ROM which then you get Lollipop faster.

You need to first flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490805 through Obin. Then make sure you have root. Then from the play store download flashify. Once you have flashify open it grant it root access and it should say something about a custom recover chose twrp. Flashify will take you to twrp download 2.6.3 not 2.8.1. Then enjoy your custom ROM.

You don't necessarily need a custom rom(can be called custom OS to) but they are updated faster then stock TouchWiz and they run twice as fast because they are slimmed down. Plus you have control of everything. Some people just want want a more pure android experience but with more customization. TouchWiz is a custom ROM of android because it has features pure android doesn't have a.k.a. multi-window and quick settings with KitKat.
Like I said you don't need a custom ROM but it is a lot more fun to play then rooted TouchWiz. I am linking two custom Roms one is TouchWiz based so it has all of Samsung's features. The other is CM which doesn't have any of the cool features of Samsungs TouchWiz. TouchWiz
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793898. CM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2936863. There are a ton of different options. My a back up with twrp save it to your SD card and enjoy being rooted.

Thanks for answering my questions patiently Orion. Ok, so if I follow the steps mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2793898, then
1. Will I have Samsung touchwiz ROM and also get all the features mentioned there including notePRO?
2. Will I have multi-window and s-pen features retained?
3. Is the above website free to download?
4. Is it possible to just get the notePRO features after rooting my SM-P600 instead of getting everything from the above website
5. It looks like there is a 1.7 GB file that I need to download in my local PC before I flash it with odin?
6. There is a mention in the above website that we need to be rooted and also have custom ROM installed so If I have to install hyperdrive as per the website, I need to have done both I guess or can I just root my note and directly flash the 1.7 GB with odin without having a custom recovery installed? Also, how is custom recovery different from root?

[Q] As a first timer on samsung what do i need to do ?

Hey guys i just bought this international exynos note 3 (N900) and i have some questions about it ;
1. I want to install all the roms kernels and mods i could find but in order to do that (I'm %100 stock btw) ,do i need to first unlock the device ( i dont know how i couldnt find it), then root it with CF- Auto root( my warranty is over so i dont need to think about KNOX i think??) Then use the dd method to flash a recovery and flash whatever i want. Am i right about the things i said on all above ? Is there an easier way to do it ?
2. Do KNOX ever prevents me from flashing things in ODIN if something gets triggered ?
3. If i am not right about the first question starting from %100 stock what do i need to do to get this baby rockin ? I'm thinking about flashing a stock lollipop rom with a custom kernel and root ofc. Any suggestions ?
4. Do we need to flash modems from odin ? Because when reading the AryaMods thread i saw something about updating the modem. I'm on 4.4.2 right now. Can we flash modems or even kernels from recovery ?
Thanks already!!

There is no much of roms to choose for this one. 9005 is most supported here.
Root using cf auto root.
Make back up of ta partion/imei.
Flash recovery with odin. Then flash roms in twrp (watch the ere about how to use twrp or YT).
flash stock roms using odin.
Can't i just flash recovery from odin then flash a custom rom after that without rooting ? Thanks!

If you are going to flash roms based on lollipop, update your phone to latest stock rom for your model using odin so you get latest bootloader.
Dude, you need root access to access system and write to it. Don't custom roms require root, if you take a look? (don't answer to this [emoji61] )
If you want that way, flash twrp with ? odin. Then flash supersu for your model using twrp. That way too you get root. Then flash roms after (read rom instructions).
Ask if all wondering. ?

No my question was; not rooting the device in the first place before flashing the recovery and the rom. The roms already comes with the root in it. So just to be clear first upgrade the base to lollipop from odin then flash a recovery and lastly flash a lollipop rom. Would this be your sequence when you just bought a new note 3 ?

Flash latest firmware then custom recovery then flash the custom rom of your choice. No need to root after flash official firmware but it's good to root first as you may want to backup efs before you start messing the phone. I backed up the efs for the past 1.5years but so far never need it.

did you check whether its properly Rooted using SU or Root checker?
Also not all Kitkat compatible Xposed modules are working with Lollipop (esp in Touchwiz)
And what recovery have you installed to flash ROM?
i checked it with root checker app get it through play store... it shows my device is rooted but still i am not able to install omega rom. i rood my mobile with ( CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900) with odin BASEBAND N900DDUEBOB1. & STILL IT SHOWS STOCK RECOVERY MODE.
You need to flash recovery separately.
If you read instructions in CF Auto Root, they'd have mentioned as Outcomes as (Root + Stock Recovery)
Flash TWRP or Philz after that

How to root samsung note 4 SM-N910C on android 6.0.1?

Recently I used odin to flash Russian marshmallow on my note 4 SM-N910C. I also flashed TWRP successfully.
I tried the usual rooting method with cf-autoroot but I got into bootloops. also I tried flashing the spacex kernel but the device didn't start up at all.
Now that I tried everything I know, is there any method to root it?
I had to go back to 5.1.1 and wait for rooting method for 6.0.1.
Any help will be appreciated.
Flash the SuperSU zip from TWRP? Do that.

Hate to ask this random question here, but I'm currently downloading the Polish xeo mm files to flash in odin. I have found the twrp 3.0.2 tar on Google. Is that compatible with MM universally after 3.0? Or is there a different 3.0.2 for LP and MM?

Yes that's it. I have a strange issue though. If i flash MM manuall from the poland version......i can get that twrp to work.....if i take the OTA to MM from the poland Lollipop..... Then that twrp wont work......the reason this is an issue is because the OTA MM is faster and more fluid on my device than the odin tar......why idk. This is a strange case lol.

CF (N910c) did work for me, but after few days mysteriously stopped working. No SU binary could be found and therefore no root . Then i decided to root again but unsuccessfully. CF does what is supposed to do and after a phone reboots no root, so i tried this way and it worked: Flashed TWRP tar from odin, than flashed superSU zip from twrp. phone rebooted 2-3 times (this is normal) then when it booted, still did not work until i rebooted it once more manually and screen "android is upgrading" appeared for a few sec. After that everything works as is supposed to.
I have found this video on YouTube (Spanish but it contains download links in video description) and detailed explanation how to do it.

Yes i tried this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2897428
and it worked. After few days root acess somehow dissapeared. And i was not able to root again using cf root. I flash cf root, phone reboots, flash su binaries and reboots again. When it boots up again no root access. (Stock Android 6.0.1) Then i tried method i mentioned in a previous post and it worked.

rooting a phone that has a custom rom already flashed

hey guys,
I have a rom flashed on my s4 i9505 (called virgin rom, something like that). I'm using my s4 now because I lost my note 4 on a night out. Thing is, I know that I have no root access, I've checked very thoroughly but I have a rom flashed from when I used to use it. I want to root my s4 now, but to be safe, I just wanted to check: CAN I ROOT MY S4 USING WHATEVER METHOD WITH A CUSTOM ROM ALREDY FLASHED? Do I have to do anything before I go ahead and root my phone, like flash a stock rom or something like that?
Many thanks.
Some ROMs, like cm13.1, can enable root access under developer settings.
If it's not there and you're sure the ROM is not rooted, you could flash supersu from a custom recovery.
Do you have a link to the ROM?

Virgin rom for GTi-9505 is moded GPE rom and SuperSu should come with that rom. You might did un-root in the past. Check with app like root-checker for the root access.
To root, you do not have to go back to stock unless you do not like your GPE rom.
Yep this ROM does have SuperSU but when I go into it, it says that i'm "not rooted properly."

Try flashing an updated version of supersu from a custom recovery.

I don't have root access at all, I've confirmed it by checking in every possible way. I really want to root my s4 safely but would it be OK if I rooted my phone using whatever method when my phone has a custom ROM flashed? Can I just root it right now without any worries?
Many thanks.

If the phone were mine, I would re-flashing the ROM to see if that restores root access. If that doesn't work and I still want the same ROM, I would flash supersu from recovery to root it.
I understand your worry over bricking the phone. Unfortunately, flashing will carry a risk of bricking the phone.

I see, so if I was to root my phone now should I first flash a stock rom or something like that?
Many thanks.

I'm not sure if the phone was ever rooted in the first place because it's been so long since I've used it.
Many thanks.

Before I flashed the SuperSU.zip, SuperSU app was on the phone and it was saying the phone was not rooted properly, but now it's gone after flashing SuperSU.zip. I've tried everything at this stage. Do you think it would be safe to just root the phone now in its current state?:
1. Custom ROM is flashed
2. Clockworkmod as recovery
3. According to terminal emulator, titanium backup and root checker, i HAVE NO PROPER ROOT ACCESS.
Many thanks.

Many thanks.

I would not use CWM, I would switch to TWRP and then flash supersu. You may not even have to flash supersu as TWRP may be able to root the phone.
