Hi installing A kernel is easy here are the steps
1. Make a backup because if anything goes wrong you can restore ur setting
If you want to make a back up go to Backup and restore click backup ,back up everything: System,Data,Cache, etc
make sure you backup ur stuff to ur micro sd card
2. Make sure the kernel is compatible for your device and the rom
3 Flash the kernel an enjoy
4 By the way can you tell me the kernel name and link for the ROM and the kernel so i can check if its compatible with ur device/Rom
If i helped you please press the thanks button
If u have any problem contact me
there are many kernels for s4 based on 4.2 and 4.3
perseus, adam and many more
do remember to create a backup using recovery
philz recovery is best
then download the zip of any kernel (do remember to check its compatibility with ur OS version i.e jb or kk)
any flash it using recovery

I thought that for the I9500 almost no custom kernels are being maintained anymore. Better to stick with the one that comes with the rom.

I have a KF1 firmware which is stock. Now i want to install custom ROM using ROM Manager on MY SGS2. But then I want to use KJ3 custom ROM. Is it possible? Because when I try installing it using CWM on recovery mode and ROM Manager, it is simply not working.
I hope someone could me out here.
Thanks
Is your phone rooted? If not you may need to do a bit of research on how to flash custom kernels and how to use Odin. Its not hard to do, but it very easy to stuff the phone if not done properly.
I have rooted my phone using custom kernel. I use CF-root.
But my Firmware is still kF1. I am now trying to update it to 3.3.5 using odin.
how were you trying to flash the custom rom? Just need to see if your missing a step
Guys, thanks...
I have read bunch of new ideas here.
Currently I am using stock KI3 and want to use the Kitchen Room Ki3 which is Deodexed Rom to install some good themes.
I am right on these?
Odexed = stock rom
deodexed = custom rom?
Not exactly. We have some custom odexed ROMs too ;-) But, you will never see stock deodexed ROM for sure.

Best advice is to read the development section and see what seems to be popular. I personally look for good stability and battery and look at thread views and the amount of activity to see whats popular. Make a nandroid backup, download a few ROMs that interest you and try each of them out. You can then compare and know exactly what suits you. Sometimes whats good for one, isn't good or another and vice versa, so the best way is to just experiment, you always have your nandroid if things dont work out.
Most if not all custom roms will be flashable via recovery, but there should be installation instructions in the thread and help if you need it.

You can use Odin to flash recovery (CWM, TWRP, Philz). Download and copy the ROM to microSD or internal flash, enter into recovery, backup and flash the ROM (sometime you may need factory reset, use microSD). I have i9500, I use Philz recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860), Omega ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232887), Perseus kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272602).

Hi,
Yes you can !! downgrade with any custom rom they do not have a bootloader........with stock roms , that is something else.
Hey bro..are u confirm about this ? And one more question. . Is it must to downgrade on same custom rom..means.. from crash 4.4 to crash 4.2
Hasan 4.4 to. Hasan 4.2

Hi,
As long as they are custom rom you can jump back and forth no problem , custom rom do not have bootloaders ( stock roms do) , you just have to BACKUP first ( Nandroid , EFS) full wipe and install

Ok guys ..hi there. I am running PAC ROM 4.4.4..ok guys am having an issue ..i originally got this phone (i9500) with 4.4.2 kitkat touchwiz i rooted it and installed twrp 2.6.0.0 and all was well..Then i decided to install the ozcan rom 6.3 ...after flashing the rom...the first boot was stuck on Samsung logo ( and yes i advance wipe my phone several times using the mke2fs format) and this rom is for my model! So i was disappointed... Then i wiped again and tried to restore my backup which also led to a bootloop..soo i had no choice but to flash a next ROM... The rom that worked was 4.2.2 wanam lite (jellybean) ..i got tired of it and went to pac ROM now.i wanted to try the ozcan rom again.. It didn't work! I tried arrow rom..it didn't work ..and these worked for other i9500 users..so am wondering is my recovery outdated and not doing it correctly ? So the main question is WHY CANT I INSTALL A TOUCHWIZ KITKAT ROM??

You could try updating recovery. And maybe try to flash it via Odin (if that's possible)

Hello everyone so I installed lean kernel on my SM-N900W8 Note 3 and of course I didn't backup the original kernel. So I was wondering if anyone could provide my with a download of the stock SM-N900W8 kernel as I want to go back to it. Thanks in advance!
All of the Samsung stock ROMs are at sammobile.com.

But I want to try to avoid wiping the device totally, or will I be able to install the ROM without fully wiping my device?
You can extract the kernel from the stock rom.
I think it is a good idea to have a copy of the stock rom in case there is a need to flash back to a stock rom.

Would you be able to tell me how to extract it? I already have a copy of the rom.
Edit - Never mind I got it, Thanks for the help!
If lean kernel has aroma installer then there should be a feature of going back to stock kernel If not then:-
Try pekaka kernel where you've feature of aroma installer and there's a step to revert back to stock kernel.
I usually uses same method to revert back to stock. After that keep backup of your kernel
