Turning off proximity sensor - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
How can I turn off the proximity sensor completly since it is damaged ? During calls the screen goes blank and I cant use the phone. All tips are welcome
Cheers

Is it faulty because of the screen replacement?
If yes, then you can reverse the rubber on the proximity sensor to make it work again.

Yes it got broken during the screen replacement process. That's why I wanted to have the sensor disabled

Proximity Sensor manager

Hello everyone.
The proximity sensor just always turned on. I don't know what program using it. I wish there is a application to view exactly what program using a sensor.
Thank you.

Can you explain a bit further?
Thanks.
Probably quick glance, goto s-motion and see if its turns on in the settings menu
I've had similar issue and it drains the battery quickly. There have been other threads about this too with nothing but a reboot as a fix...

I also have a problem with Quick Glance.
Sometimes it works.
Most of the time, it doesn't.
Q: Is this proximity sensor related to 'Smart Rotation' and 'Smart Stay'?

[Q] Stuck after phone call

I bought a Nexus4 a couple of weeks ago. I constantly got this issue, it will be stuck and not return to the normal screen even I keep pressing the power button. However, if the other side of the call hangs up quickly, it normally works fine. but if it is directed to a voice mail box, it will be stuck forever until I shutdown the phone.
Just wondering has anyone experienced the same issue ?
Have you put a screen protector on it?

It sounds like the proximity sensor on your phone is being blocked you might want to try not using your case and see if its make any difference

Turns out the screen protector is the evil.
Thanks a lot!

Problem with the proximity sensor

The proximity sensor stopped working. When I'm making a phone call the screen is still blank when removed from the head.
Quick glance only work when I try it in the demo.
Is there any settings I might have missed or is the proximity sensor broken?
I got this problem too

R you guys rooted and/or have a custom rom? If yes reflash to stock and see if that helps. I`am on stock/unrooted atm and works fine.

Proximity sensor bug

Currently experiencing proximity sensor problem, when making a call screen turns of itself and doesn't turn on until pressing home or power button. Also tested proximity *#0*# numbers change (proximity stuck 1.0) but screen only goes green and stays like that. Any help ?
P.S it has always worked perfectly in stock rom but after rooting and flashing rom can't get it working properly..

But notice when you turn it fully away from your face like 2 feet away it will do just fine... It just need some calibration I guess. .

Proximity sensor

Upon checking out the service menu, there's a test for proximity sensor and i tried it, to my surprise it works the sensors are located on the upper portion of the back level with the camera lens.

Looks like most sensor detections apps can't tell its there, and only the sony service mode sees it.
Surprised by where they are located too, there happens to be two of them, both on the back towards the top right side of the tablet.
It might be interesting if these can be used by calling apps to turn off screen while in call?
Indeed, maybe the mechanism or program/driver for this is not similar with common proximity sensor. Maybe there is a driver from sony for this.
