I have found the previous thread for the other G4 models, but I can't seem to get the flashing to work. I'm assuming we need a different variation of the OEM.img file.

try this strange trick, I'm not sure it will work, it might boot loop, but you can always just reflash the rom
download the STOCK oem.img from STOCK amazon firnware from https://www.filefactory.com/folder/c6cdedc45a775d27 (harpia amazon)
And then prepare to flash it (enter fastboot mode, put oem.img in mfastboot folder, open cmd)
type "mfastboot flash oem oem.img" but DO NOT press enter
then, start holding down the power button on your phone
about 2 seconds later, press enter on PC.
If all goes well, right after computer says "writing oem..." phone will reboot and there will be totally blank oem partition!

Yes, OEM contains ads
But you can not flash another model OEM.img without unlocked bootloader
So I am trying to trick the bootloader into ERASING the OEM partition, so the ads files can't be read

So are we looking for the OEM.img from the same model number but different carrier?

There are 3 listed on that page.
Let me know with a mention or quote or pm or something if you guys are successful. All of the other methods like using adb to hide com.amazon.phoenix failed for me as well as unlocking the bootloader. I made the mistake of assuming that a XT1607 is a XT1607 is a XT1607 and it didn't matter who you bought it from, so I went with the $99 option figuring if it had a locked bootloader, it would have a different model number (as is the case with LG and HTC phones) so if this method doesn't work, I'm going to contact Amazon to do an exchange for the version without ads and pay the difference.

I'm thinking all we really need is the OEM.img from the non ad version amazon XT1607 and then run the flash as stated in the RSD Lite thread.
But I haven't found the zip for that phone. Unless it's an entirely different model number.

No, we are not, you can not flash any OEM IMG that does not have software channel "amz" (look in about phone to see that). So you have to trick it into erasing it

Yes, we have an option to enable battery percentage.
No, it does not require GravityBox.
Steps:
Enable System UI Tuner by long pressing and releasing Settings icon(gear icon)
Open System UI Tuner in Settings menu
Toggle embedded battery percentage to on

It's not. And that's what burns me up. Every other manufacturer will at least increment the model number to differentiate between one that can unlock the bootloader and one that cannot. With the XT1607, it's the model *name* rather than the model number. The moto g4 play and the moto g4 play prime exclusive edition (that's ours).
I'm using that as my basis for an attempt to talk my way into an unlock code for my bootloader because I bought the Amazon prime version under the assumption that I'd be able to unlock the bootloader and root the device, since the model number is the same. Now I have to return my phone, be without a phone while it's shipped back, wait for the refund to clear, buy the same damn phone for $50 more, wait for it to be shipped out, and deal with Sprint to get the new one activated. All because it's the only carrier unlocked cdma phone that isn't like $400.

no de bloat
So is there no way for de bloat and ad removal for the amazon moto g4 play XT1607?!?!?
I got two other stock files
XT1607_HARPIA_RETUS_MPI24.241-2.35-1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
XT1607_HARPIA_CCAWS_MPI24.241-2.35_cid50_subsidy-CCAWS_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
The problem I'm having is when I try to flash an oem.img from one of the other phones I get a validation check error and the phone fails.
If this actually works, I just need to know how to bypass the validation check. Maybe I'm on the wrong path and will end up bricking my phone.
But looking at the other G4 ad removal thread, this is basically what they did. They flash a stock Moto G4 oem.img file and that file doesn't contain the bloat.

I am still not having any luck.
I'm wondering if the XT1602 is the same phone and if we can flash that OEM image.
I'm missing a step or two here I think. Very frustrating.

I have a moto x pure pre release phone. It was a model that was issued before the initial release of moto x pure. I have tried to get the unlock code with no success. I get a failed error message. I have tried this on windows 10 and Linux. I can successfully recognize the device on fastboot and adb. However, no unlock code. I am now thinking somehow the phone is locked and unable to get this code. I'm thinking about selling this phone and getting a new one. I would like any feedback if you think I will have the same issue or if the pre release may be locked.

I tried it just restarts and there is no white logo screen
The white logo screen is only for the ZenFone 2 base models. For ZenFone 2 Laser variants, the logo screen will and should remain black. To verify whether your device hadha been truly unlocked, head over to fastboot mode on your device, and type the command: "fastboot oem device-info" (without the quotes) into the command prompt/terminal.
If it says device unlocked: true, that means your device had been successfully unlocked.
Another method is to try flashing TWRP onto your device, then attempting to boot into recovery. If it boot successfully, your device had been unlocked. If the ASUS logo just flashes and goes instantly, and then rebooting back to the system, it is still locked.

Any results?
Same device and same problem
I have tried with a few "different" unlock apps and still get the following result after running

Also I noticed that Asus' support page from the country where the device was bought does not have "utilities" section where the unlock apk would be located. (can't post a direct link since I'm new here, so here's part of the link: asus.com/br/Phone/ZenFone-2-Laser-ZE550KL/HelpDesk_Download/)

I have been trying to unlock using the official unlock app since seven days. @Rajko said the app works sometimes. Also I have noticed that devices that were updated to 1.17 build are facing the same problem. Others who unlocked their device before the update were able to unlock BL. I even tried downgrading to 1.15 and 1.16 but no success till now. Maybe Asus has patched the bootloader with the 1.17 update and as you know bootloaders cannot be downgraded normally and can be fatal for any device. We may be able to unlock when Asus releases unlock app for Z00L.

The HTC looks to be an excellent choice. Their last few devices weren't up to par, and it's cost them dearly. They've stepped their game up with the 10, and I think it'll be the device to put them back in the game.
The Galaxy S7 family speaks for itself.
As for Motorola, I'd avoid them like the plague. They're horrible with updates and are getting sued right now for failing to properly honor their customers warranty claims.
Oneplus is a toss up, IMO. The Oneplus 3 could be a hit or a miss. I'm not sure when it's supposed to drop, but I'd keep my eye on it.

Interesting, I personally had very good experience with Motorola and have seen a lot of people having trouble with samsung phones.
My view on Samsung is biased though, as I barely consider them android phones. Prejudice aside , I see them as designed for people who want the status of iPhones but want something "like an android".
I hope the OnePlus 3 turns out to be good

Well, sorry for saying this, but I personally do not trust any companies from (you know which country). Their phones may pack in very high specifications at very low and attractive prices, but really, there must be a catch, right? (personal opinion)
I live in Singapore and unfortunately, I don't see any Motorola smartphones being sold at any of our major electronics store or even online.

I didn't say Moto makes a bad phone. On the contrary, their phones are usually pretty solid. It's their business practices and weak update support that turns me off, but they undeniably make good phones. Just don't expect to run the latest and greatest Android has to offer a year after release.
My opinion of Samsung is biased as well. My previous device was a Galaxy S4, and I LOVED it. It was a damn good phone that could take whatever I threw at it. And, the dev support...that phone had every ROM and mod you could ever want. The only reasons I didn't stick with Sammy were the price, and I the fact that my Samsung experience had gotten a little stale after three years with a Galaxy S4. Plus, these Zenfone variants dropped when I was ready to upgrade, and they were pretty attractive. I don't regret it for a second. Like I said previously, if Asus would drop ZenUI, I'm certain that the root community would want what they have to offer.
Oneplus is due to release a good device. I have a good feeling that they'll drop that crappy invite system this time around. If they do that and give us another flagship killer, the Oneplus 3 would be more than likely sell like hotcakes.
I'm not sure if this is going to end up as a fix or a cautionary tale, but here goes.
Was looking to root my g4, so I successfully unlocked the bootloader & installed TWRP using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/guide-newbie-resource-thread-t3386584
Things were going pretty good there, but when I tried to install the SU image through TWRP, the phone wouldn't boot.
Naturally, I didn't do a backup of the stock state of the phone (BECAUSE I'M AN IDIOT!) so I figured, what the hell, might as well install cyanogen mod, and see what that's all about. There's a cyanogenmod beta for the G4+. It went on smooth through the TWRP installer and was behaving ok, but wouldn't see the SIM. I check the IMEI number and the phone does not have a value set, just blank space.
I then tried to re flash stock firmware on the phone, thinking that might restore the IMEI.
It was a bear to get on there, but I was pretty proud of myself when it booted.
Trouble is: still no IMEI number. Also no wifi and it can't see the SIM card (probably because no IMEI number).
So, I figured I'd go back to the cyanogenmod, and see if I could somehow trick it into an IMEI number, BUT! re-loading the firmware re-locked the bootloader.
I went through the unlock process at motorola again, but this time she won't unlock. The console is throwing me
Code:
...
(bootloader) invalid boot state
OKAY [ 0.005s]
.
So, from here, I don't know where to go. Try re-flashing cyanogenmod on it manually I guess, but I don't know if that will work with the bootloader perpetually locked.
Can anyone help me sort this out?
Please?

I flashed the stock rom on manually from the terminal using fastboot. Evidently: it isn't the right version. After careful inspection, it seems like I loaded the Indian / Asian version, whereas my device is the Canadian version.
Unfortunately, the Canadian stock firmware is still listed as a work in progress.
And the file names are confusing as hell. My device model is xt1643 but my stock ROM doesn't even mention 1643 in the file name. What's your model number?

it's model XT1641, bought in Canada.
Did you turn on unlock bootloader option in Dev settings ?
W0000000ooooooooooooooooooHooooooo00000000000000000000000000!!!:victory:
We're back in business, kids!
Found the stock rom for the Canadian Retail build (not locked to carrier) here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/athene/official/RETCA/
It took forever to download, but once it showed up, I flashed it on with fastboot, fired 'er up, and it's the same old stock G4 with working wifi, that can see the SIM & Connect to the network, complete with IMEI number AND - I believe - an unlocked bootloader.... at least I get the unlocked bootloader warning screen on boot.
Varun: I saw your message when I was getting set to flash the firmware on and got set to put my palm through my head. You're right: it could have been just the switch in developer options. But I checked and it was on.
Maybe the mods can add that firmware to the big firmware download links post.
Now, you'd think that having just brought this thing back from the dead I'd leave well enough alone and quit fiddling with this thing, but...
Maybe the owner of the newbie thread should add a post with "take a backup through twrp"

had the same issue. forgot to turn on usb debugging
will moto g4 xt1625 amazon bootloader ever get unlocked??
...
If you're moto G4 is non-amazon version you can do it without any problem..
I just ordered the amazon version last week and had no problem unlocking it. I think Motorola stopped giving unlock codes for the amazon version for a while. That must have changed cause like I said I had no problem as well as others I read about in another thread
For mine a week ago and had no problems. On g4 play i did i messed up the numbers and it said it couldn't be unlocked but when i for them right it unlocked right away.
I'm one of the originals and I still can't unlock (when with I received a replacement under warranty)
I only can hope that I'm entering the value wrong but I don't think that is the case.

Does that impact the output of the fastboot OEM get_unlock_data command? I get gated when taking the command output and putting it through the data scrubber tool and clicking "can my device be unlocked".

Hi,
So I recently got my hands on this new phone, and the blimming phone won't unlock. I'm using the XT1700!!! Not E3 Power!. It's on TESCO UK, and the System Version is "23.0.XT1700_S303_160829_UK". Yes, in developer options, OEM Unlocking is ticked! Tried two PCs, different drivers, different cables... idk.
I get the output on my phone to unlock with both "flashing unlock_critical" and "oem unlock"; both say "Unlock failed, returning to fastboot in 3s..."
This is the output in CMD:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot oem unlock
...
(bootloader) Start unlock flow
FAILED (remote:
Unlock operation is not allowed
)
finished. total time: 7.803s
Any suggestions? I'm really not sure.

Yeah.
My E3 XT1700 was purchased from Tesco but its sim free, not locked to tesco.
I'm pretty sure if you read elsewhere in the unlock bootloader thread, the S303 firmware DOES NOT allow the bootloader to be unlocked.
My E3 is S124 firmware, although I have been running Lineage OS 14.1 (android 7.1.2) on it for some time.
Sorry but there's no way you can unlock this model

Is there not anyway I can flash S124? Its MTK so I could surely use a flashtool?

I'm pretty sure you need to unlock the bootloader to do that.
Its really not worth the hastle.
S124 isn't available anywhere to download unless you pay for it, but you got to unlock the bootloader before you can flash it, as its only available as a TWRP back up.
I lost my IMEI number doing that and had to flash an S131 E3 power firmware and reflash my IMEI which wasn't easy at all.
I've just checked and S303 and S512 are indeed bootloader locked.

Not unless you find one if these "one click root" apps via PC that supposedly magically root.
Its a shame these bootloaders cannot be advertised as not unlocking compatible, it would have saved you a lot of trouble.
Do try everything although to be fair, I've not seen anyone post about unlocking those two firmwares.
I'm only sorry I can't help more

It's all good. I'm making progress however; managed to find a S124 SP flash firmware, but I'm scared to flash it, as I'll be out of a phone for 3 months which is a problem, as I need it for collage. I'll continue to look around.
