Hi,
So I recently got my hands on this new phone, and the blimming phone won't unlock. I'm using the XT1700!!! Not E3 Power!. It's on TESCO UK, and the System Version is "23.0.XT1700_S303_160829_UK". Yes, in developer options, OEM Unlocking is ticked! Tried two PCs, different drivers, different cables... idk.
I get the output on my phone to unlock with both "flashing unlock_critical" and "oem unlock"; both say "Unlock failed, returning to fastboot in 3s..."
This is the output in CMD:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot oem unlock
...
(bootloader) Start unlock flow
FAILED (remote:
Unlock operation is not allowed
)
finished. total time: 7.803s
Any suggestions? I'm really not sure.

Yeah.
My E3 XT1700 was purchased from Tesco but its sim free, not locked to tesco.
I'm pretty sure if you read elsewhere in the unlock bootloader thread, the S303 firmware DOES NOT allow the bootloader to be unlocked.
My E3 is S124 firmware, although I have been running Lineage OS 14.1 (android 7.1.2) on it for some time.
Sorry but there's no way you can unlock this model

Its really not worth the hastle.
S124 isn't available anywhere to download unless you pay for it, but you got to unlock the bootloader before you can flash it, as its only available as a TWRP back up.
I lost my IMEI number doing that and had to flash an S131 E3 power firmware and reflash my IMEI which wasn't easy at all.
I've just checked and S303 and S512 are indeed bootloader locked.

Not unless you find one if these "one click root" apps via PC that supposedly magically root.
Its a shame these bootloaders cannot be advertised as not unlocking compatible, it would have saved you a lot of trouble.
Do try everything although to be fair, I've not seen anyone post about unlocking those two firmwares.

It's all good. I'm making progress however; managed to find a S124 SP flash firmware, but I'm scared to flash it, as I'll be out of a phone for 3 months which is a problem, as I need it for collage. I'll continue to look around.

Around last week when I first got my carrier locked Xperia PLAY, I purchased a network unlock code which I was able to unlock it with. So, then I flashed it with the UK Generic .184 FTF file with FlashTool to get rid of all the junk that my carrier included with it and rooted it using the GingerBreak APK.
Now, my question is, since I've network unlocked my PLAY, completely debranded it and rooted it, would I be able to unlock my bootloader now? From what I've read, since my device was originally locked from my carrier, that it never had Fastboot installed on it, which is needed to unlock my bootloader. But I also read that being able to unlock the bootloader on my Xperia PLAY shouldn't even matter because it's already set to S=OFF. Could someone please enlighten me on this?
You can't unlock your bootloader with the current method, it depends on two things: can your phone connect with fastboot when in bootloader mode AND is your IMEI number registered with SE to get the required unlockcode.
No you can only unlock GSM phones ie sim fee none network locked ones, unlocking the sim carrier wont count sadly

Yes, I went to their How-To page on the SE Developer's site and was able to get an unlock code by providing my IMEI and other info. When I try to detect it with Fastboot and my PLAY in bootloader mode, Fastboot just hangs at <waiting for device>.

Cool, thanks for confirming that!
But does it even matter if I'm able to unlock my bootloader? Because I've read somewhere that the PLAY's are set to S=OFF.
From my understanding an unlocked bootloader is necessary for costum roms, if you're content with root and themes unlocking the bootloader won't be that important to you I guess.
I'm pretty content with being able to install custom themes with it only rooted. But I want to be able to overclock it, and that involves flashing a custom kernel to be able to do so, correct?

Here is a tutorial to unlock the bootloader on our Moto X Play: http://www.gammerson.com/2015/08/steps-how-to-unlock-bootloader-of-moto-x-play.html

If you leave it unlocked after rooting then it can make your phone more susceptible to localised threats like someone stealing your phone and re-purposing it or stealing your data from it directly.
But for many the reward outweighs the risks and there are ways to mitigate.
Trying to unlock Moto X Play on Linux by using "fastboot oem get_unlock_data", but it just says waiting for device. I ran "adb devices" and also enable "Allow unlocking device" in the Developer menu. Am I missing something?

Another question. My phone is showing up "Bootloader unlock allowed: No" in the Service Menu. I've already turn on "OEM unlocking" and "USB debugging" (
authorized, and confirmed all the necessary drivers were installed).
The "Unlock your boot loader" site is saying that "It will only be possible to unlock the boot loader for certain releases." Does that means I should flash another firmware with differnt region or Android version? I've already tried to downgrade my phone to MM again, however the issue still exists. Thanks.
P.s. I am able to get the unlock code from the "Unlock your boot loader" site.

If your phone says that is is NOT allowed... sorry, but it is not possible.
Even though Sony is happy for us to unlock the bootloader, if the carrier/operator (verizon, o2, virgin, etc) wants - these companies can ask Sony to stop the bootloader from being unlocked.
Sim lock is one thing... at least that can be removed. I have no idea why they would choose to prevent the bootloader from being unlocked.
Actually, maybe because in some countries the consumer laws are very good, so even if you root or something, your warranty still exists.
But if you cannot unlock the bl -> you can't root -> less device problems/bricks -> less money on repairs for the phone operator? (just an idea)
The first (used) Xperia X Compact I bought, it was carrier branded, and the bootloader was unable to be unlocked.
I talked to the shop owner, I chose the other device in stock, it was unbranded, I could unlock it

How unlock New Oreo bootoader C0.92? Motorola site dont do this for this version .... After update to Oreo...my IMEI is 0 ...so i need unlock bootoader to flash twrp and flash EFS! 7.0 unlock ok but 8.1 no

Yes, if you want hard-brick.
To install TWRP with this put the EFS to return the IMEI, this new bootloader must be unlocked, in the site of the motorola says that the device is not unlockable, with the old bootloader was, and wanted to know if anyone has any idea how To solve this, would I have some way without having to enter the motorola website?

Thank you for letting us know that unlocking might be a problem after upgrading. I've been waiting to unlock until I get the update, but because of your post I won't have the problem that you did. Your sacrifice wasn't in vain!
I had my doubts whether moto would let us unlock BL easily and promptly, thats why just few days before the official 8.1, I unlocked, twrp+rooted and flashed AEX.
Lucky me.
But I am sure soon there will be some way to unlock BL of 8.1
Till then dont try anythng stupid as u asked about "dwngrading BL" which is potential brick.

I was trying to unlock using the brazilian website, that is basically the same besides is obviously written in portuguese. The site on the guide seems that is a north american version. It worked, that's what matters.
i unlocked the bootloader, put twrp, flashed my efs and my imei return, ok....but have no signal oO, downgraded to nougat and with EFS, have IMEI and signal ok, only on oreo i dont have signal ... with TWRP flashable Oreo is same.
looking at the *#*#4636#*#* says that the radio is off, I have the IMEI that I got through my backup of EFS, this occurs only in the oreo, in 7.0 when using EFS everything is normal, only the VoLTE is missing.
all you have to do is extract the zip file, make sure your phone has adb debugging enabled, plug it into the computer, and run the script and it will debloat your phone and enable you to slide the oem unlocking toggle in developer options that was previously greyed out
********WARNING*********
this script will remove the keyboard app from your phone leaving you without a way to type, i dont know which exact package it is but you can always look them up and just remove that line from the script. otherwise make sure you have a usb-otg cable and keyboard to use or a program like Vysor/scrcpy or you wont be able to type. just reinstall gboard or whatever other keyboard you use and it will be fine

Anyone know what actually locks the sim slot? And how can it persist even on Global rom? On Tmo devices there is a "Device Unlock" app that gets deleted after you sim unlock the phone by carrier.
But global rom doesn't have the proprietary unlock app, so what is actually keeping it locked? Does the modem have the locking instructions in it?
Yes, something like that which is impossible to remove.

The previous OP devices it was possible after flashing Int. rom.
Question is where/how did they place the restrictions now. It had something to do with the modem after the t-mo app unlocks the phone.
But I don't think backing up and restoring a modem from an unlocked OP8 and flash it to locked OP8 will work as intended anymore.
I guess no one cared enough to reverse engineer this again
