Battery Drain Advice - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Battery life on my S7 has been terrible lately...not even rooted. Any suggestions?

I've tried a lot of different things. As of late my battery life on stock hasn't been to great maybe lasts 8 hours. Only way for me to increase would be to run in powersaver mode and manually keep the screen brightness low which I don't like to do. Seems like the battery life just deteriorated for me over time. I have a lot of services disabled and auto sync off. Been Contemplating getting a battery case. I also have greenify installed. I do notice better battery life when Facebook and messenger isn't installed but the alternative apps for them for me just don't work as good.

I can get 2 to 3 hours screen on time rarely 4 hours. Unless I do the power saving and manual brightness.

Impressive battery life

So my battery has gone through 6 charge cycles, and I am now getting really good battery life with medium- heavy usage. Very impressed with the phones battery life. Approx 24 hours standby, 4 hours screen on and 30% percent battery still left today. Watched some YouTube, listened to lotsof songs, whatsapp, emails, browser fb etc

Same here. I'm actually satisfied with the battery!

Check wakelocks. If music is not taking up an hour or so of wakelock, you can still make it better.
So about 12 hours would be considered average/good?

That... means nothing. 12 hours of screen on time is mind-blowing. 8 hours is some extremely optimized usage. 6-7 hours is about what most people should get. 4-5 hours means you have battery life issues. 4 and less means you have severe battery issues.
5 hours and less of screen on time before 1% means you need to diagnose wakelocks and rogue apps.
Ahh, Ok, I was thinking 5 was high.... Thanks for cleaning that up. I'm on the fence about getting this... Doing my homework now... Any complaints?

Have you rooted your phone and do some special optimizations?
Why my screen only on with 20 mins, and consumes about 4.5% power?

Do you mean HTC One? I think my One can last only 5 hours if the screen is on.
How to address the problem? My screen is set at auto brightness, and power save mode is enabled except display option.

Better Battery Stats. Figure out what is holding partial wakelock. Disable anything involving location settings for Google Search and Google Maps/Latitude. If you have MSM_HSIC_HOST wakelock, you have to root and run a wireshark for a long idle period to determine what is killing battery life.

Not really. I will note that MSM_HSIC_HOST wakelocks are seriously the most annoying things ever to figure out. I'm going nuts trying to reduce it, and fixing the issue requires root because you have to install a root application that can sniff network traffic to determine what's causing modem wakelocks.

Yes, the MSM_HSIC_HOST wakelock exists for about 2 hours, and my battery only use 5 hours since last unplugged.
Is it serious problem? I have not unlock and root my phone, is there any other approach to detect that without root?

I was always under the impression that the only time GPS was using the battery was when you could actively see the GPS logo in your notification bar so unless you were always running apps that would use it you didn't need to turn it off?
Usually get 2 days out of mine with a bit to spare..... i'm not too heavy a user in the week though.
Easily get 24 to 36 hours if i'm using it a lot at week.
Really pleased with it.
from 7am to 6pm my battery is left at about 14%. doesnt seem that great. pretty light usage.
only been cycled twice though, so will wait and see.

My location settings were on during that time, could have gotten more than 5 hours if location was off and I used the 30% juice left.
I am going to test the bsttery with lte enabled all day tomorrow

Phone gets warm and battery drains after 7.0

It used to be the most amazing phone, with the most amazing battery
Now after updating to 7.0 I have a battery drain, instead of 4.5-5.5 hours of screen on, now it's 2.5-3 tops. Also, the percentage sometimes skips number, like 89 straight to 87 and so on. And if that isn't enough, phone gets to 39-40 celsius simply using Chrome for ten minutes. It shouldn't be like that.
What to do?

Give it a few days so that system can settle.
Is doze not working for you either? See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/doze-gaps-battery-graph-doze-t3449618

I haven't done a full wipe but I have reset the phone. As for the doze, I have no idea but I lose more battery while using, brightness is at 30% but it takes 1% of battery each 1.5-2 minutes.
Initially after updating this wasn't happening to me but it just started, my phone gets warm after short use and battery drains quicker now.
I haven't done a factory reset yet, I was waiting for factory images to drop and just do a fresh install.
This happened to me on the N5, performance dropped after going to 5 from 4.4.
Do a factory reset. Problem solved.

brand new s8, questionable battery life

guys i played with my new snapdragon s8 last night for like 2-3 hours and set everything up and i love it!
the only worry is so far the battery drain is a little more than i would like compared to my exynose S7 Edge. I have all the same apps and accounts setup now on my s8, and just in the few hours i played with it last night the battery drain was more than the s7e was in the past with that same medium/high brightness and watching a lot of videos and installing apps.
then last night, my new s8 on AIRPLANE mode overnight lost about 10-11% battery life which seems too much on airplane mode, my s7e exynos would loose only a few % overnight on airplane mode.
maybe the phone battery needs to calibrate for a few days? maybe the OS needs to optimize itself more? idk. but right now its morning here and im going to charge it too 100% and see how it fares throughout my work day
When you first get a phone, it'll use a lot more battery until it is fully set up and settled in. I give my new phones at least a week to properly settle before I make any judgement on the battery life.
Remember, you've downloaded, lots of apps, synced accounts and various bits. Give it a few days before you worry about it

cool ill figure out how to do that and try it
Give it a couple days and update us again - you can also use AccuBattery for a more detailed statistic.
~10% overnight with airplane mode is truly a lot. You should be getting about 1% overnight drain after the phone settles.
I get about 3 hours of SOT if i'm lucky on mine. I play a lot of BT Spotify in my truck as i'm in and out of my vehicle all day long. I was hoping for better, I even followed the guide to disable a bunch of the packages etc thinking i'd get more and didnt raise it any.

tips for improving battery life?

So, overall I've been really impressed with the battery life on this phone. Probably the best out of any device I've ever had. When I first got it I was getting close to 7 hours of screen time. However after rooting my phone and getting the November update, now I'm only getting 4 hours of screen time. Has anyone else encountered something similar? I am not sure exactly what the cause of that is, if anyone has any tips for improving battery life would really appreciate it
I also have a battery drain on my pixel 2 xl, I have flashed factory mutiple times, charged up to 100% and I still only get about 10-11 hours full use streaming YouTube in background on WiFi. While on airplane mode

Standby battery drain issue in HTC U Ultra!

Hi,
I have recently got a new HTC U Ultra from Dubai and found quick battery drain issue in it and I have to charge it twice a day. It only gives max 2 hours screen on time and even battery get drained when the phone is in standby mode. Can anyone help here, please?
Thanks in advance!
Show us battery history and battery usage per app then we could help.
Definitely not normal behavior. See battery history for potential problematic application causing the drain. If nothing can be seen you can try reset of the phone.
Join the club mate, same here brand new ultra here from Dubai.. I don't think it's good to check drain now.. is just the first week. That said try the wake lock detector app

I have reset the device and till now it seems little better as after 44 mins of screen on time I still have 81% battery left. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
Keep in mind that in the first 5 to 10 days android does many things in background till it sets up everything. I personally start looking at battery life after the first week of usage.

just like you, i also notice standby drain, but didn't feel it as so bad as 2 hours SOT.... didn't feel the need to check the SOT, so honestly i don't know the numbers. i myself installed wakelock detector to see if there are anyything triggering the wakelocks.. will report back!

yeah, thats why i am not worried at this point.
I have turned off the permanent secondary display and is on for the notifications only. Now it is giving me around 3.2 hours of SOT and I hope its fine.

I checked my device and have considerably low standby drain. Didn't measure yet, but when there is enough signal and when in WiFi, the battery holds up properly. I think 3.2 is still a little low, At least of 4 hours I expect.
