(Q) Location in google maps is greyed out - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. Well I noticed my location in google maps is greyed out but still is able to track where I am
Whys is this happening since before it was working perfectly. My GPS works fine with all other apps but this has been a recent issue with google maps only. I wouldnt really care but every time I tried to set a route with the starting point as my location I get the unable to reach servers try again later and have to set the starting or end point manually for it to work.
I have marshmallow 6.0,1 installed and the latest version of google maps dated for the time I am posting this

any help with this issue?

Mine works just as expected. Have you tried wiping data on the app, clear cache, force stop and then restart phone. Also check all location settings not just in settings menu but in Google settings as well. And make sure permissions for the app are granted for location.

I just updated to the latest android 6 version and the problem is solved

Google Navigation - Checking navigation availability

FYI if anyone updated Google Maps you're probably having issues with your Google Navigation where it hangs at some "Checking Navigation Availability" screen.
Solution: Market -> Apps -> Long press Google Maps -> Uninstall Updates

This would be a good solution except that the latest Market update is broken too, and any attempt to access my apps or clicking any app results in a FC.

this is not a specific problem to galaxy s. I am having it on my desire and I took these steps, but it didnt work.
I was having the same problem after flashing Perception 10. All I did was clear the data in Google Maps and then I went to the Places app and nav'ed a location from there and it was successful there. So then I went back to navigation and it worked fine. :\
Google Navigation and TTS Service
I didn't want to start a new thread, but I wanted to post something that I noticed today.
I was playing with my Samsung Fascinate and used Titanium to (safely) freeze as many of the unused applications and services.
TTS service is Text-To-Speach, and, since I didn't find any warnings about it, I froze it. Soon after, I realized that the Google Navigation wasn't responding.
Long story short, after I unfroze TTS service, it worked again.
This is just for your information, in case that somebody gets into a similar situation. If this is a well known fact (that the noobie that I am didn't know about), I apologize. I only wanted to help.
all the best and thank you all for all the work
I still have the 'Update Maps' on my Market, but I didn't do it..
When I had Froyo 2.2 standard through Kies, I had no issues with my navigation.
After flashing Darky's v8.0 I'm also getting the "Checking Navigation Availability" screen. So none of the solutions above worked for me..
Anyone got an idea?
Thx.

Thanks this worked for me
tried the above solutions, still not working on my Galaxy Tab, still stuck on "Checking navigation availability".
Can anyone in Hong Kong confirm if Google navigation is active or not?
With the previous (stock) maps 4.5 navigation is notavailable in HK, but rumour seems that it should work with the new 5.0 maps update... anyone?
I have had this happen twice on my Vibrant. The first time the above suggestion to clear the data worked, but the second time it did not. I was however able to get around it by doing the following:
Close navigation, then open maps. In maps, go to menu > directions and enter any address (I used one from a contact), hit go, and once the directions are up, hit the navigation button in the upper right corner. That should start the navigation program normally (no "checking navigation availability" BS). Once the navigation starts successfully, you can exit and from then on it should start normally from the dedicated Nav icon.
Hope this helps at least one person.

Worked for me!
There must be some incompatibility between versions of Maps in the data coding memory!
Galaxy S ; Darkyy's ROM 8.0;No lag fix yet.
Goto manage apps and clear cache and data. See post http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2444687 of yuzaman!

[Q] Google Maps closing

Hi, so I am running this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429199
Everything runs great except Google Maps. I noticed that whenever I open Google Maps and use it for a minute or two it tends to just freeze for 2-3 seconds then closes and boots me back to my home screen. No FC's, no error, just kicks me out. This happens everytime I use it Google Maps.
I have cleared the cache and app data. I have not uninstalled/re-installed it yet. Guess there is always that..Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
Thanks.
------------------------------------------
Update:
Actually, I force closed the app. cleared data and app data. Uninstalled the app. Rebooted the tab. After reboot I went to market and pushed the update to it. (I guess it doesn't actually uninstall since its a G App). After that it works fine, with no closes. Not sure what it was, but that got it working.
same thing here
Hi,
I use the same pre-rooted ROM and have the same problem.
Using the satellite layer in maps even reduces the time it takes to crash.
I also see this behaviour in Google Earth.
I've de-installed and reinstalled, deleted cache and reverted upgrades to no avail.
Any help is welcome. If a log can help, please le us know how to get it.
Thanks.

Edit:
I switched the ROM to Ezterry's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265847)
Just wiped cache and dalvik and installed on top of Gersma's
That fixed it for me.

Issues with Google apps. Anyone else???

I'm using the NotSoStock ROM for the T-Mobile V20 version 6.5. I haven't had any issues this entire time but of recent randomly my Google app won't work. When I open it the wheel just spins with no message or indication of connecting to Google. Google Assistant will not respond to OK Google. Voice to text won't work on GBoard. The Google search bar won't work. My play store is fine Gmail is fine just seems to be everything related to the new installment of Google Assistant stops working. I'm not using greenify. I haven't installed anything different since getting this ROM running. It hasn't been updated since I've rooted. Only thing I've downloaded was a theme from the playstore. I thought maybe that was it so I removed it and went back to stock but it did it again later on in the evening after being perfect all day. Sometimes if I close all apps it will connect when reopening. But other times I have to reboot the phone. I've wiped cache and dalvik cache. Wiped app data and cache. I've tried changing the ignore status of Google services framework so it's never put to deep sleep in the settings baked into stock LG UI. I can't figure this out and it's frustrating. Can anyone help or at least let me know I'm not alone and maybe this is a Google server issue.
I have had similar behavior with Google assistant acting up, again just very recently and it used to be flawless. Must be Google update version issue. Maybe we can roll back to previous version?
I'm having the issue with the missing voice to text on Gboard. It's also missing from lgboard and I'm not able to add it to the board under settings because the mic icon doesn't exist. I know gapps is the issue, but I have no idea why. Looking for a solution.
What solved it for me was signing up for Google play services beta and the Google app beta. Been flawless since.
I'm on a stock Verizon Google pixel. W/ unlocked bootloader. I started having this issue as well. Will try to see about the beta thing you mentioned.
The only short term solution I've found is restarting my phone. But otherwise it's really inconvenient.
Hasn't seemed I've been happening as much. But my Google assistant and or Google Voice search would freeze I would have to reboot the phone to get it to work again. I'm stock Verizon v20
Gotta be an issue on Google end. Hopefully they fix it soon

Apps issue

Some of the apps dont function, they are stuck on splash screen or sometimes reach to main activity, and ANR dialog is displayed. Some of the apps that fail are google maps, chrome, uber (and every taxi app), fildo, truecaller (after navigation drawer is opened). It's feels like problem with gps, but google maps works through browser and maps.me functions too. The problem started after I droped the phone, don't know how strong was the drop I was sleepwalking. Any idea what might be problem or how can I fix it? Did factory reset and cleared dalvik cache.
Which rom do you have?
I have the same problem for about two months now. I have googled the symptoms but I can't find any answer. please help
> I have the Chinese Axon 7.
> I am using stock ROM.
> The problem existed with Android 7.1 and 8.0.
> I have Reset cache, factory reset, reinstalled google apps. but for no avail.
I've got the same issue. My Ctrip app is crashing anytime I launch it. It happens since I dropped my phone. The weird thing is that it is the only app I've got an issue with. All the Maps, taxi apps etc seem to work well
I think it's an issue with Google Play Services. As I had these issues too. The only solution is simply disable google services, clear all cache and other things , than phone prompts that the APP will be replaced by the system version, accept it. Then go to the Google Play Store and let the Google Play Services be installed and updated again.
It's a common issue among Chinese Axon 7 (A2017) users in Android 7.1.1 and 8.0(beta).
My main problem on Chinese Axon is that I can't add credit card for Google pay, I've tried to clear cache, uninstall Google services but nothing works

Huawei p10 lite show Google Play services are updating

From now there is some days from phone show on app google play services are updating. i try restart, add location etc but still same. waze and google maps works but album does not.
how to fix it?
Seems to be a problem reported with a number of Huawei phones recently. Had it myself and googled a 'solution'. I went into Apps and disabled Play Services. Then rebooted the phone. On restart, prompts to update Play Services so allowed that and apps that use mapping etc. started working again. Seems others had problem re-appear on a reboot. I found the reports and solution here - https://stackoverflow.com/questions...ing-error-on-release-not-emulator-google-play
