I've upgraded to Android N and re-enabled WiFi Direct so that I could use Miracast. When I try to cast to my RTD1185 based device it starts connecting then disconnects. On Android M it worked fine. Does miracast work for anyone else who has enabled it? Has anyone else had this issue?

Miracast isn't working for me too, I'm using Android 7.0 NRD90M on a Nexus 5X, sometimes it doesn't connects, and if it connect then my TV stays with a black or static image of my phone, and the Settings app keeps crashing everytime I open it, this looks that Google hás intentionally created this "bug", since the Miracast is disabled by default for unrooted phones, and they want us to buy their Chromecast (which also has lower quality than Miracast protocol....).

After a full clean flash I still have the same issue.
Same issue here as well. Couldn't get the build.prop mod to work on the preview, so i reinstalled M and it worked fine. I thought it would work on the official N release, but no luck again.
Are you guys seeing the checkbox for wireless display on N? I edited the build.prop via TWRP and i'm not even seeing the checkbox

Yes, I have the checkbox. Just like on Android M however Miracasting does work for me any more. It disconnects before displaying anything.
Yeah I finally got it showing by adding that line to the default.prop in the boot image instead of the build.prop. However as you mentioned it does not connect
I just tried with my Amazon Firestick and the mirroring app exits when my Nexus 6P connects.

Haha, if you mean more pictures - just let me know what screens you'd like to see with the 3.1 update and I'll be happy to post them up.
How did you make a screenshot on a stock Xoom?
you just download the android sdk...
I PMed board member Keitht and got this amazing response on how to take screenshots... hope it helps.
Huge props to Keitht for the great tutorial.
You have to have the Android SDK loaded on your computer:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
You will also need Java Development Kit installed (make sure you download the proper version for your OS. Use Windows for 32-bit and Windows x64 for 64-bit):
https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP...-CDS_Developer
You run the ddms.bat file from the Android SDK tools folder in a CMD window (to see if there are any errors). While you can just double click the file, if it doesn't bring up the application window, there may be an error that will not be displayed unless you launch it from a CMD window. If you didn't change the default installation path when installing the Android SDK, you will find the ddms.bat in C:\Program Files\Android\Android-SDK\tools.
The Xoom will need to be in debug mode under Settings > Applications > Development. When you launch ddms.bat successfully, a window will launch and you select your device from the list and choose Device > Screen Capture. You do not have to be rooted.
If you still have problems especially getting the computer to recognize the Xoom in

Wow that's crazy but it probably doesn't surprise me since I just found out a day ago that after I disabled the pre-loaded Facebook application it automatically re-enabled itself and updated automatically. I disabled it again this morning and just now it prompted me it updated itself. Samsung or T-Mobile needs to fix this. If I explicitly disable something I expect it to stay disabled.
Strange

I asked for some help from lemonsqueeze in getting a fake ethernet module for the Shield Tablet to use. This way the native Nvidia gamestream app would allow for 1080p 60fps over WiFi (normally only allows this if using a wired ethernet adapter). You of course need to be rooted and have xposed installer already installed. Here it is...
Download and install FakeEtherConnection.apk,
Enable the module in Xposed Installer,
Reboot,
Turn on FakeEtherConnection, select the apps and click save.
Now apps should think they're on ethernet.
If it doesn't work try rebooting.
You can test with this little app to make sure it's working:
TestWifi.apk
Enable it in FakeEtherConnection, then it should display "Ethernet" under "Network Type" even if you're on wifi.
If you want to test multiple times you have to close it and open it again, it doesn't update itself.
Let me know how it goes

This grid has nothing to do with this thread.
With that said, fixing latency is impossible. Latency is a factor of many things but the biggest one when distance is at play is the speed of light...that is a constant in networking (the little o of networking) that can't be changed.
But.... Some times you just have to change a variable and the conditions change the affect of the constant.
For 1 wireless networks have higher latency than wired. Try using Ethernet. And see if it helps. Probably not enough..
2 if they are using an edgecach of any sort DNS plays a factor as it will change which edge server to serve from. Ideally you want one closeR to where your located. But change your DNS servers to ones closer to the source or at least one in the U.S.. It may or may not help. It could also affect your routes positively but less likely as your ISP will typically dictate that.
Your screwed for the most part for GRID....
GRID has nothing to do with this thread? LoL!
Sent from my C6906 using Tapatalk
Grid and gamestream are 2 totally different things.
GRID is an implementation of gamestream running from Nvidia servers, while Gamestream relies on your local/personal hardware. If your ISP/location/routes aren't fast and stable to the Nvidia datacenter, no amount of tweaking on the clientside will make a difference.

Hey guys. Since this is my first thread, any help/instructions would be welcomed.
While messing around on my Nexus 5x I got a notification from Google Connectivity services telling me if I wanted my phone to auto-connect to open wifi hotspots automatically through a VPN(Virtual Private Network). If you don't know, a VPN sends your data encrypted through a Wi-Fi network. The data is then unencrypted by the VPN server, and is sent to the requested location. This is useful if you want to use an open network but don't want people to be able to spy on your browsing. After exploring a little, I found out how to set this up.
Requirements
A recent Nexus smartphone or tablet running android Nougat
The latest version of google connectivity services
Navigate to Settings>Google>Networking.
Enable wifi Assistant.
It's as simple as that. Whenever you come across an open network, your phone will automatically connect to it through a vpn.
Thanks
I was under the impression they opened up Google Connectivity Services beyond Project Fi users to all Nexus users, so do you really need to download this separately?

As Droid Life said, the feature is coming soon. Until its full release, this is the only way to access this otherwise Fi-only feature. I have no networking feature in my settings, and unless you do, I believe this is the only way to access this feature at the time of this post.

They stay on for a very very short amount of time after you press one. Maybe like 1 second. I wish there was a way to delay them shutting off by a couple more seconds.
That's easy guys: just install an ancient app from Playstore (used it on my THL T100s back in 2013 already on Android 4.2 but it's still working):
Keyboard Backlight Controller by DeskAngel. Very light, under 1 mb. Needs root (of course). There is only one disadvantage I can find, every time you reboot your phone you need disable and re-enable the upper 2 [V] in the app to make it work. That's all. Good luck. As long as your screen is on, your buttons will be illuminated!

The sourcecode of the app I listed is open (open source). So it shouldn't be too hard for a dev to create something for our beloved devices.
Besides, it works on a wide range of phones, so could be a hit in the Pay Store
