Hi,
can anyone take a quick pic of the button light? (back and recent apps). All reviews I've found show them turned off.

They stay on for a very very short amount of time after you press one. Maybe like 1 second. I wish there was a way to delay them shutting off by a couple more seconds.
That's easy guys: just install an ancient app from Playstore (used it on my THL T100s back in 2013 already on Android 4.2 but it's still working):
Keyboard Backlight Controller by DeskAngel. Very light, under 1 mb. Needs root (of course). There is only one disadvantage I can find, every time you reboot your phone you need disable and re-enable the upper 2 [V] in the app to make it work. That's all. Good luck. As long as your screen is on, your buttons will be illuminated!

This works pretty well. I wish there was a timer, like 5-10 seconds to keep the lights on. This is good for now though. There are a ton of apps for Galaxy devices for this purpose but not much otherwise

The sourcecode of the app I listed is open (open source). So it shouldn't be too hard for a dev to create something for our beloved devices.
Besides, it works on a wide range of phones, so could be a hit in the Pay Store

Yes it works!
You can change the brightness from the home screen without change any option or install any application.
Press on the notification bar (not open it) and after shows up with the date, just swype left or right to adjust the brightness!!!
Here is my video on youtube to see how it works:

Welcome to 2010 lol. (sorry!).
I think the correct way to do it is just to hold an area on the notification bar (not swype). left is less bright, right is more bright. (at least on latest fws it works like this).
This has been known since éclair. You must have auto brightness off for it to work though.
Thanks for sharing anyway, original thread has probably been lost in the folds. I'm sure there are plenty of new sgs users on here all the time. It is still one of the best smartphones on the market today, and now it's dirt cheap.

Thanks for this useful tip
Works on JVQ
I always seem to have my RAM maxed out like a lot of users.
Try disabling the lock screen ripple effect. settings>security and lock screen> lock screen options> untick "ripple effect"
By doing this this my phone idles around 500MB of used RAM as a posed to 680MB or more. I've not had a screen re-draw since either..
Try it. and post your findings
It helps ^_^ tanx man

Interesting. i went from 605mb to 540mb used. Even though i had "with swipe unlock" unchecked to start with (have to check it to get to the ripple option then disable it, then uncheck it again) it made a difference. you would think if the main option was unchecked everything inside that section would be turned off. guess not. Didnt do a reboot. now i have done a reboot and im still sitting around 530-540mb used.
Seems like it can work
I always use my phones with no lockscreen at all. Lockscreen is not necessary at all anyway. I've been using smartphones for years and there hasn't been even one case where my smartphone woke up by itself in my pocket and started dialing people.

My Xperia X10, HTC Desire and Galaxy S2 all used to unlock and dial people all the time, sometimes even with pattern lock on it was absolutely infuriating although S3 doesn't seem to ever unlock itself which is a relief lol But when an app wakes the screen, with no lockscreen I can imagine that would play havoc in me pocket lol.
I disabled my ripple effect and found my ram jump to 700MB. Before disabling ripple effect, I was on 530MB ram usage. I am on Latest Stock Jelly bean.

No, on N5 Ambient Display work like that....Wake when notify arrive...after 2 sec, wake another 2 times.. and then after 5 sec. He can't wake your phone when you take him because Ambient Display come from N6 and the sensor is different... But maybe a dev on XDA work to change that....:fingers-crossed:

Can anyone confirm that this mod is working?
Hi,
The Ambient Display is working fine, but after I applied this zip the USB Debugging doesn't.
Even using the revert zip not worked, I have to install the Update Factory again to fix that, so if you need the USB Debugging, this mod maybe not a good idea for now.
Anyway, thank you for this mod.

You mean USB Debugging mode doesn't work anymore? I tried to flash it to 2 different Nexus 5 and USB Debugging seems working fine.

I have installed this mod and it works fine, USB debugging works as well. The display lights up at regular intervals as mentioned. However, this has conflicts with the notification LED. No matter whatever app I use (lighflow, led blinker, light manager), if I put in notifications like wifi on, or charging notification, the screen keeps turning on
Got the Nougat update this morning like everyone else.
Immediately I notice a problem. Not a big problem in itself, but over and over this becomes pretty annoying.

Notice anything? The reply button is missing.
It only appears when the notification is expanded, as seen below.
Ok no big deal. But this means you have to expand your hangouts, messenger, and who knows what other messaging apps to get the reply button to be displayed. Every single time.
One of the big selling points of Nougat was being able to reply directly from notifications quickly. While this is still possible to do with this update, it will require expanding the notification every time. My wife's Nexus 6P has nougat installed and the reply button is immediately visible, no expanding notification necessary.
Is there a setting buried deep down somewhere that changes this back to how it should be? Even on Marshmallow the reply button was visible immediately, though not implemented as gracefully as Nougat, the button was still there without having to expand anything.
Lol the world is going to end without a simple reply button! We are all doomed! ???

I realize it's pretty trivial, but this is not the behavior of stock Nougat. Samsung decided to give us an extra step for no real reason.

Unfortunately it looks like Samsung just decided to implement it this way. It happens with all messaging apps I've used thus far. My wife's 6P has the reply button instantly available, no expanding needed.
Where's the battery setting to turn off fast charging? I don't see this setting anymore...
---------- Post added at 05:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:17 PM ----------
Anyone see the battery setting to turn off fast charging? Can't find anymore.....
EDIT: found it. Battery. Advanced.
I'm finding it difficult to organize grouped icons in the app drawer. If you already have 9 icons and you hit edit and try to bring one to another page it just won't drop.
For example http://i.imgur.com/WbpjOIv.jpg
I'm holding onto the play games icon soon as I let go to drop it goes back to the first page in the group. Yeah you can remove it and add it again but it'll be difficult to organize them to preference order.
Also did they take away the option in settings for your default launcher? I guess you can get to it by opening the launcher itself but I'm curious if it's just me or was it moved?
Please be kind and use easy words. I'm a noob!
I would like to ask if it is possible for the S8 to have a full screen all the time? Without the nav bars. I know they disappear with You Tube and some other apps, but can it be done as a standard setting.
I don't mind playing with settings and trying things, as long as I can use simple terms.

This full screen is not the same as the ADB version. That fully resizes the apps. The app version just removes the status bar and nav and leaves a blank black area in most apps.
Yes, the ADB version is the truest form of full screen. Really liking it. My one gripe with on-screen buttons was that they made the actual usable screen space smaller. This way we get to maximize the entire display. Love being able to tweak our phones to our personal likes. Something much easier to do with Android, even non-rooted android, than IOS.
This is awesome but it should have been already included as a feature.

It is with some apps, you have to press the open apps button on the screen and if you can view that app in full screen you press on the green circle in the upper right hand side of the screen.
