Conversation with Steve Wozniak

I'm a mentor of a robotics team in Scottsdale, AZ and recently had a great opportunity to talk with the co-founder of Apple about several things. For clarification, this is not at all word for word; just a recount.
While hammering out the issues we were having with our bot, Steve Wozniak approached my rookie robotics team. While we were talking about certain design elements, I stated how I loved my Android OS, and awestruck by the conversation that ensued.
I said something along the lines of how nice multitasking is, and he pulls out his solution to iPhone multitasking, "I usually talk with this one, and do other things with my other iPhone" HAH! What a great solution! Then he pulls out his N1 !!!! OH MAN!! Steve Wozniak has a Nexus One?!?! An Android phone nonetheless!!! I guess its not that surprising, seeing how he hasn't necessarily been affiliated with what we now know as Apple. So I asked him how he likes Android OS. He said some great things about the user experience; specifically the voice recognition with navigation.
While in the queue area for qualification matches I had an interesting opportunity to pick his brain about the HTC Apple lawsuit. First off I asked him what he thoughts were. He commented about specific iPhone OS feature-sets 'Patent #7,657,849: Unlocking A Device By Performing Gestures On An Unlock Image' and how it could seem like an infringement. Though, I did sense hesitation on other vague patents. I can't remember what he said word for word, but he did comment on the age and vague wording of patents that Apple had been awarded. I am trying hard to not be controversial, and steer clear of putting words in his mouth, but he didn't seem to have much support of Apple in the sense of the lawsuit.
I am a total Android-whore, and love getting nerdy about this stuff. Its an honor to have been able to speak with him about Android and iPhone. In all reality I think what we are here, in our XDA community, is revolutionary. Just thought I'd share my experience
In b4 /cool story bro.
This can only be good news for the android community if true!
well he has stated openly that he uses a nexus one so i believe Wesbalmer's story.
thanks for sharing it!
He said that he was given ten! to divvy amongst his peeps

EXCLUSIVE: Android Team Q&A [VIDEO]
A special press-only Q&A session with the Android Leadership Team took place at Google IO that gave us inside access to the thoughts and ideas of those making the important decisions when it comes to Android. While I live-blogged the event a few days ago, I also promised video – so here it is:
The people on the panel are (left to right) Andy Rubin (VP of Engineering, Founder), Mario Queiroz (VP of Product Management), Hiroshi Lockheimer (Director of Engineering), and Vic Gundotra (VP of Engineering) who joins the team on stage just a couple minutes into the panel.
Although no earth shattering announcements or ground breaking secrets were revealed, I think anyone who loves Android will truly enjoy this behind the scenes look at the people who make Android come to life.
UPDATE: If you want a good laugh, fast forward to about 41:25 and listen through about 41:55. Andy Rubin is hilarious.

Would be nicer if I could understand anything he was saying.
I can't understand a word :-(
Is this related to the questions people posted at Google Moderator? I wrote one about spam in the Android Market and would really like to see it answered...

The real purpose of the Nexus One..

This was posted recently in a norwegian financial paper. It is Norwegian.. dont worry, translation by Google..
If someone bother to find other sources.. post it.

THIS PHONE WAS REALLY JUST A FEINT"
"Okay, it worked. Congratulations - we stop. " Google chief reveals the real purpose of Google phone.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt surprised when the company a year and a half ago, said it would create a mobile phone with Google's own operating system. Now he says that it was with the Nexus One, and it was a success so it will be with this phone only.
Several mobile operators announced that they would sell it, but ldidn't. But the sales figure for the actual phone was not the point.
It was made to speed up the mobile manufacturers so that they will make phones that could use multiple operating systems.
- And it did. It was a success, so we do not need to create another. We will look at it as positive, but people criticized us heavily for it. I called the board and said 'ok, it worked. Congratulations - we stop, "says Schmidt of the British newspaper the Daily Telegraph.
Eric Schmidt
Same with Chrome
The newspaper says Schmidt, Google is considering creating its own small, portable computers to speed the spread of the online operating system's, Chrome OS. Well checking if others succeed first.
- We have talked about it. We have a reference for specifications of Chrome's OS and hardware partners, we have in place. It is on schedule and will take place later this year. But we'll see how the partners do it first. I'm guessing that we do not have to do it. Computer software industry is different from the mobile industry. PC industry is accustomed to working with Microsoft, while the mobile industry was not accustomed to jobbbe with software.
The customer decides
Schmidt also respond to criticism about privacy. Google collects unimaginable amount of data around the world, and has also been criticized for gathering personal data from open wireless networks as they have traveled around the streets to take photos to map their services.
- I think criticism is fine. I think the criticism informs us, it makes us better. It bothers me not at all.
Schmidt says he understands the concern for privacy, because so many people are so much online and leave information at all times. Google uses this to direct ads to web surf visitor places and preferences, and ads is the Google main income source.
But Schmidt said the public will tell if they do not like it.
- All our surveys show that most are satisfied with our policy.
And the message is the message no one wants to hear: the reality is that we make decisions based on what the average user to tell us, and we notice us. And why you should trust us that if we break that trust, people will immediately make use of other services, "said Schmidt, and believes the public is not very loyal when they do not like something.
- So we are very keen to continue to have confidence in users, "he said
Ahh.. allready posted..

Close this..
if this were a real printed publication i wouldn't pick up dog crap with it.
i struggle to understand why you are taking this danish news source so literally.
google has a real road map for chromium and android. why would they pump and dump two major long-term initiatives that have been and will be wildly successful and above all financially rewarding?

Revisiting Chameleon !

I know your wondering why didn't I put this in the original thread. I felt that that post had had it's run & this would be extremely valuable to a lot of people even folks who hadn't read the original. This is an extensive interview with the developer & gives a very insightful overview of the tablet industry. I would really appreciate all of your thoughts/views on it.
Thanks,
Bob W

mmm I wonder what happened, just saw this checking the kickstarter:
Funding Canceled
Funding for this project was canceled by the project creator about 3 hours ago.
Either they sold it to someone else, or they went bust, or they realised they couldn't pull off their promises.
And it's none of the above

They had the member of their team in charge of the amazon payment account leave, so they have to re-open the kickstarter account under a new name, supposed to happen in a few days, below are the updates they gave supporters.
Hi Kickstarters,
What a strange week it has been. We went from a giant high to what might be a big low. Kickstarter is an amazing platform but a really difficult one for anyone outside of the United States. In order to set up a kickstarter account, you have to use Amazon Payments and in order to use Amazon Payments you have be an American citizen. Luckily for us, we had that covered. At least we did until today. As with any team, you can't expect all the members to stay part of the team forever. One team member's departure meant the departure of the Amazon Payment account. We are currently setting up another account and should have that done within a day and we are doing our best to contact Kickstarter to ask that we simply switch Amazon Payment accounts. As of the time of writing this post, I'm not sure if that will work. The worst case situation is that the project gets suspended. Suspended projects on Kickstarter are never renewed.
So, I am sending out this update in case the project gets suspended. If it does get suspended, please contact us at: http://www.teknision.com/chameleon-news. We are fully committed to launching Chameleon. Nothing will stop us from taking it to market. We still plan on honouring you, our backers, who have made this possible. I can only be honest in what is going on and promise to do our best to make everything good.
Keep the faith, fingers crossed and stay tuned.
Hi Everyone.
After speaking with the good folks at Kickstarter, we can now confirm that they will not be able to switch our Amazon payments account - it is simply not possible to 'swap' when you are dealing with credit card processing and authorizations. While it is disappointing, we understand these protocols are there for good reason. To protect your financial information.
Unfortunately this means we will have to manually 'close' this project, and your pledged amounts will not be charged. We are very sorry for this inconvenience -believe me, this is not the kind of customer experience we wanted to deliver.
There is some good news however. Kickstarter have told us we are allowed to initiate a new project and can accept your pledges there!
The only catch is that once we have the new project live, you will have to go and re-pledge on the new project (we will give you the new project link when it becomes available). We understand the inconvenience this may cause, which is why, for your time and patience, we will be upgrading all of the rewards with an additional 5 Chameleon backgrounds. We are aiming to have the new Kickstarter project live by early next week.
I hope you understand, and bear with us as we get over this hurdle. If you are disappointed with us, I understand that too. As I stated before, we have every intention of delivering world class software to our customers. We love the passion that Chameleon has sparked and we intend to develop long lasting relationships with our customers.
Stay tuned for new instructions next week, and thanks for your patience.
Hi everyone!
Today we are working on closing the current Chameleon project. While Kickstarter and Amazon payments have been very helpful and supportive, based on our discussions with them, the best solution is to start a new project. By closing the current project, there is no question about our intentions with your current pledges. You are also free to cancel your own pledge.
We are working to get the new Chameleon Kickstarter project up for next week, so stay tuned.
Even with this project being closed, we will still be able to share the link to the new Kickstarter project. Don't forget, your existing pledges will not be charged. Expect an update next week.
In the meantime, we have included a development update for everyone. With some surprises. So enjoy!
How do Canadians contribute?
Well, that sounds like a massively annoying situation to be in. For someone to leave that suddenly too, doesn't seems like it was amicable...
I hope they can sort out the problems without too many more difficulties.

SecAndy : let's get the party started

Pronounced "say candy", the goal of SecAndy is to come up with as secure and private of an OS as possible. So as not to reinvent the wheel, we'll base this initiative on our open source code of choice (Android or maybe other developers' choice).
I am not a developer myself but I can without a doubt, because of former professional experiences, organize a project and gather the right people together as a community in order to make sure that project sees the light of day after it has acquired a life of its own if needed, which I think we will agree is something that this kind of project requires because of the scrutiny it will quickly attract.
I am officially calling upon this post all interested developers that could help us fork Android or other open source OS.
Let's get a kickstarter funded and let the party begin. I will update you later today on the advancement of such.
