Poweramp-can't change tracks in car unless lockscreen is on - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all:
I've always used Poweramp on every phone I've had, and I've always used it with Sync in my car. I just got a N6P, and I found that I couldn't change tracks with my car buttons. I went thru all settings and eventually got it to work, however it necessitates that I set the phone to lock immediately when hitting power button (or at least, to be locked, period). I never have my phones set to lock when I hit the power button, and furthermore the Sync is a trusted device for Smart Lock. I always set the phone to lock after 30 mins.
I've been searching around for an answer and can't find anything. Anything I find relates to "change tracks with volume buttons", but that's clearly not what I want to do: the point is to be able to skip tracks with the buttons on my steering wheel, and I don't want the phone to have to be locked!
There has to be an answer!

preventing accidental phone dialing

Today I had this problem for the 2nd time. My Qtek 2020 was in my bag and the phone button got pressed, calling my friend for 51:18 minutes!! How do I prevent this from happening?
There are (at a minimum) two ways of doing this.
1. Start -> Settings -> System -> Button Lock -> "Lock all buttons except Power button" -> OK
2. Place the device in a case (I use the Seidio hard plastic XDA case) while not in use to prevent inadvertent button-press.
2 is easiest, but 1 is pretty much guaranteed to work.
the case
I received a leather snap-case with the device. I believe the inadvertent press of the button (or tap of the screen) may have happened while I was using the device (CALENDAR, TASKS, etc.), although I don't know how. I do know that when I press the green talk button to switch over to the phone, it seems very easy to press it twice and redial the previous number.
As for button lock, how does that affect my ability to answer the phone when it rings?
Button lock does not affect your ability to take a phonecall.
The phone turns on when you get a call, then you can simply press the green button.
I am still wondering why button lock is not activted by default...
I've put my phone in my pocket before, and then found it to have powered itself back on almost straight after being powered off. Then, in my pocket alongside the Jabra and the wired hands-free, I get all sorts of wierd scrawled notes & stuff. I had a new Task yesterday, and at one time my Personal Details had a load of gibberish written all over the place.
The Faux-leather thing the XDA2 came with just seems too bulky to me.
Best bet is to power it 'off,' leave it on the side for a minute and power it 'off' again if it wakes up on its own. And, if you leave it in a bag, check for messages/missed calls when you get back. And make sure to turn it off even after a call you don't pick up.

Stop accidental key presses?

Anyone have a solution for this? I have my Wizard go to standby after a short time and always make sure it is in standby when I put in in my case. However, when I receive a call and pull it out of the case, I almost always press one of the buttons. So when I answer the phone I have the camera going, contacts open or the connection manager open. I use all the buttons so I don't want to disable them completly. I wash there was a way to disable all buttons except the answer button for like 5 seconds after a call starts ringing. Or, be able to set buttons to not activate unless pressed for 2 seconds or so. Or, require 2 presses to activate. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Turn on the password (4 digit one is fine) and set to 0 minutes, the phone will "lock" as soon as you go into standby but when it rings you will be able to answer with the red/green buttons but nothing else until you put in your password.
Thanks, I will give that a try. I used a password before but it slowed things down so much that I removed it. I have done quite a bit of optimizing since then and will try it once more.
it does slow the use, and gets annoying (i still use it) but it does work until i find a decent app to do it. All it really needs is 2 touches or 2 buttons to unlock but not found anything yet... \
I have solved this with litle less work .I have Device lock Bar on the top, under date , so you need twice down and middle buton to lock the
device.
device lock doesn't seem to play well with the password application. if you have password activated you can do a device lock but when you put your device on standby and bring it to full power it is unlocked. if you use device lock without password it works.
any solution to lock keyboard during a call ? i always active some functions with my ears(...) when i speak
starseb - switch your phone to stand-by mode... the radio (phone part) should remain on, and you can continue calling. Then just switch it back on when done ( or not %) )
sorry for my english, but i make i make a mistake. i would say how to lock screen during a call.

Is there a good way to unlock by pressing just keys?
Try christoph's deltaLock map it to a hw button then set it to be unlocked by the same hw button.

Accidential Answering

I use my 8525 in a side case and when the phone rings I usually pull out the phone to see who's calling to decide if i want to answer... though 9 out of 10 times i accidentally hit the answer button. I always lock my phone via device lock on today screen... is there a reg hack or setting which will allow me to disable or customize ALL the buttons (when in lock mode) on the 8525 so I don't accidentally answer. to me if i were to assign a button (ie power or ptt) to only be allowed to accept a call (when the phone is in lock mode) that'd be great. I'm tired of auto answering and what good does a device lock do if you can easily auto answer?
bumping this back up... Can I be the only one with this issue? If so how do you use your phone and not auto answer?

Sorry you're not getting replies and I have no solution of the type you are looking for sadly. I've tried to replicate what you say happens but it's not easy!!! My key is not that easily pressed and I always put the device back with screen towards my body - my fingers don't seem to get very close to the green button.
This is probably daft to suggest but have you checked the setting that lets you specify auto answer within X number of rings - just in case it's answering the call by itself!!. (apologies if you checked this setting already!!)

Auto Answer is not set... the problem is (and it's a problem with the phone design) when the phone is locked none of the buttons respond until you hit the power button and then unlock the phone via the screen (which is good).
However when there is an incoming call or reminder the screen turns on and then a few buttons are active on the phone (send, end and the two soft keys seem to be). So when a phone call comes in, if the phone is in your pocket or the hip case while reaching for the phone it's VERY easy to accidentally press any of the active buttons and then accidentally accept or reject that call.
I've searched everywhere I can think of and I find little mention of this problem and no mention of a fix, most screen lock replacements only do as much locking as the WM5 built in lock does. The button re-activation after an incoming call is probably something built into the hardware. That's all I can deduce from this.
Thanks for the responses I've received so far.
I am on my fourth PDA phone and have used both Win Mobile 2003 and WM5. They all behaved this way and it is one of my biggest complaints with the Windows OS. I have seen apps for Palm that solve the problem. How hard could it be to have the option to only wake with the press of the power button?!
not hard at all, but the again its M$, i am surprised these devices to have ctrl-alt-del keys.

Lock Keyboard question, and volume rocker inquire

Hi!
So I got my HD2 on Wednesday, and the first thing I did was connect it with my email's (personal and work) and unfortunately, my work has Exchange 2008 running with a lame security policy (actually, I like security, so I really don't mind) so my phone has to lock itself against a PIN. My question is, the box "Prompt if phone unused for" is greyed out (but checked) and I have it set to prompt after 1 hour. However, everytime I lock the screen, even if I immediately click back in, I have to type my PIN. Is that also being enforced by Exchange? Do I always have to type in my PIN no matter what I put for the wait time?
Oh, and for a quick question, I noticed that if the phone is locked and I'm listening to Slacker, if I try and use the volume rocker, it doesn't change the volume. The media player works fine, just not slacker. Is that a Slackerism or is it because I have a PIN protected phone?
Thanks for any help!

Can't control music/volume when screen is off + phone is unlocked

Hello everyone
I'm having this weird issue with my Nexus 6P (which is afaik on the latest software version) that I did not have with my LG G4 when I had it.
Basically, when I play music from any app (Spotify, Soundcloud, Poweramp, etc), I can't control the music when the screen is shut off and the phone is unlocked.
Let me clarify: I set my phone to not lock automatically when I turn off the screen. I like it that way; there's a 1 min waiting period until it actually locks.
Unfortunately, in that 1-minute waiting period I cannot:
- Adjust the volume using the hardware volume rocker
- Cannot adjust the volume using any sort of headphone control
- Cannot pause or start the music
Until the 1 minute period is over and the device actually locks, or I just turn on the screen and unlock the device.
But this has been very inconvenient, so I want to know what I can do!
Thank you all.
I have the same issue here. It also effect (probably unsurprisingly) control over BT from car radio.
I dont seem to remember this always being the case, only since the last security update I think.
Same issue here... been that way for a week or so now, quite annoying. Restarting the phone doesn't fix it.

I'm getting this too. Anyone find a fix?
Hello, I have the same situation, basically my workaround was to enable the fingerprints setup and have the phone immediately lock with screen off. Then instead of pressing power I trained myself to unlock using either indexes. It is quite fast.
The volume buttons will work off screen only while the phone is truly locked so no smart lock with Bluetooth either; screen off but unlocked doesn't work. I also have problems while driving and using Maps off screen, probably for the same reason.
I filed a bug report with Google, there are a bunch of people with the same problem but this isn't fixed in the monthly updates. I haven't tried the android N preview Good luck!
