I just got my nexus 6p a week ago, finally rooted just installed pure nexus rom and Elemental X kernel, is there a way I could possibly undervolt to keep this phone cool?? Before and after it was rooted it would get hot really fast, anyone one know what app to use I've tried trickster mod, kernel auditor, and synapse. Trickster didn't stick any values... Synapse isn't supported and kernel auditor won't let me undervolt..so close to returning this phone, I've seem to have gotten used to the size.. But this heat is killing me...
Thanks in advance for anyone's feed back!! I appreciate it!

If you want to UV...get a kernel app from the play store.

Just switch to franco kernel and use the kernel auditor and instead of undervolting just lower the maximum clock speeds of the little and big clusters
Don't bump a post 1 hour after your first post and expect responses. Overheating is not a common issue on this device. Maybe start fresh. EXKM is the best app option. And as other user stated, don't undervolt.

Well maybe i`am lucky but my phone doesn`t get hot unless i`am gaming for a longer time. Maybe check your background apps to see if something unusual is going on an/or apps are over-active.
When you say hot, I think of it as unbearable to hold in the hand. Are you exaggerating or is it really hot? My phone is luke warm and that is because I actually use it. Have you considering downloading batterstats apps or see if you're cell signal is good or bad.

This device doesn't have heat issues and it's definitely not from ElementalX unless you installed it wrong , and pure Nexus is a pretty legit ROM so probably not that either . UV is pointless on these new kernels its not going to obey whatever you set .
Also everyone's sense of heat is different so what's hot to you may be cold to me , you need to post temps of Soc , CPU, and battery . Use an app like DevCheck .
My phone is always at 98 degreez and above all the time...and no im not saying its the kernels... Im saying thatcmy phone has bren like this from the get

Any phone based on SD810 gets a bit more hot compared to other devices. When I compare my HTC 10 and Nexus 6p, I can tell that 6p gets definitely warmer than the other. But, it's no way 'unbearable'.
I suggest returning it, as you may have a defective device.

Alright guys, ive been hearing different things.. people are getting an upwards of 9 hours of battery from like using texting and that sort of stuff.. stock kernel and rom will give you 5 or 6.. Ive heard some people get 18 hours of use from texting and what not..
Basicly i just want to learn to see what different kernels and set up everyones using and to see how many up hours (like a text or 2 every minute or 2), they get out of it.
Really curious to discover new android things especially battery power with a 4.3 inch screen
Im running Chopsuey kernel with nocturnal shooter sense 3.0 rom and sitting at 768max 245minimum
(yes i made a slight topic typo D=.....)
ICS / CM7 ROM

undervolted -100mv, 825mv floor

Battery life: 2 days+
nice to hear you get such good battery life.. i get about 6 or 7 hours of medium usage
I get abysmal battery with every kernel except poonsense for whatever reason. Lasts me all day with texting web phone calls constantly. Seems like setcpu actually makes my battery die quicker

Did you do a battery calibration? If so not download free battery calibrator, charge you phone too 100% the which is I think its 4200mah. Install setcpu? Change different governed see what works with your phone. I recommand to try different kernel see what works.

I never believe anyone's claim for 2 days of battery life on a battery of any smartphone.
The most I ever got was at least 8 hours under moderate use with about 40% to spare at the end of the day.
This was achieved using a combination of a froyo rom (myn's twopointtwo) with nets 4.3.4 havs-cfs-more-sbc kernel under-clocked with set cpu and juice defender toggling my mobile data on/off whenever it was needed.
Highest I've personally seen is 18 hours of high use

Not sure if you were asking me or teh, he would be the guy to explain undervolting. I don't use any apps or scripts to uv. Just the setup I posted. Proper battery calibration will probably do the most for improving battery life though.

Marmite for me. It works, it doesn't have all those fancy features that require buying an app just to use it. Marmite just flat gets it done.
_thalamus' kernel; perhaps it has higher battery drain than marmite or others, but no one is as fast and smooth as that one. I prefer performance and stability rather than best battery life; after all, I always charge the phone at the end of the day to have it full for next day, so....

I fear matrix is next up for the development stopping . I know many of us have used and supported matrix since the gingerbread days . It has always been a great kernel and remains a staple for my phone. I believe development for this kernel would continue and surpass all our expectations with continued support from us the community. Sure would hate to lose the matrix kernel also. Just my 2 cents .
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
You don't need so called constant development of a kernel. All that is for the most part is feature wanking and buzzword dropping.
People are hooked on this weekly update bs from cherry picking people. That just update their crap just for the sake of updating.
When you release a good stable working kernel you don't need or get a thread full of posts and discussion about crashes or what pointless buzzword will be added next.
I prefer matrix for touchwake. I found that in large part, there wasn't much difference for me between marmite and matrix in performance, stability, and battery life. Both were phenomenal. with regard to the "lack of active users" comment, I think the lack of thread activity is due to the kernel being bug free. maths threads have always been quiet for this very reason.

Nexus 6 is a good choice if you dont mind its size.
about that lag, i had it first when i got it. only way to fix it is to switch to ART instead of dalvik .really eaz to set and you wont believe the difference. of course no tweaks come close to it. struggled with that lag myself in first week.
also installing lollipop also removes the lag completely, of course its using ART by default and rom itself is a much better performer.
1 more thing. if you dont wanna switch to ART for some odd reason, i think the culprit is the launcher so just check nova launcher out. set it to default and restart phone.
anyway personally i love Nexus 6 but its unusable for me cause of the size but if you are ok with it, good for you.
I wanted to get n6 cos g3 had some lags .. But after i updated to lollipop V20D i changed my mind ..cos its very smooth the camera very good and bo lags at all ..good luck man with your n6 ... Just tell me which camera is better g3 or n6 ?
So far the nexus phone is awesome, but it is bare. I do miss a few features if the g3, but the dual front speakers make the switch a good move. The phone is slightly bigger than the g3, but I love it. Videos, browsing the web is so much better.

Coming recently from the Moto X (2013 model):LG is beautiful, screen is much better.. But, on stock Android: it IS a bit slower than my Moto X was..
I wait for lollypop, hope it will solve the lag issue.
The G3 does have some lag. I even see lag on the lock screen when entering my PIN (sometimes). It's been this way since I bought the phone. Running stock rom with root, xposed, and g3 tweaksbox.
I tried the CM12 unofficial recently and it is a lot smoother than the lg rom. The only issue is that it literally eats the battery... once they get this sorted out and a stable release comes I will move over to CM on my G3.
Used to have a one plus one. I jump phones so I left. Hey...its what I do. What I am hoping for is to prove a point on why my one plus one got way better battery life then my G3 does. Virtually the same specs. Same carrier...same apps. Now. Here is where someone with a 1+1 comes in. Using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iattilagy.usemon you can monitor the GPU usage if you scroll down a bit. Would prefer a relatively stock like setup. It doesn't even require root. Just run this app for about a half hour using no games or anything just oh idk. Texting, hangouts, Tapatalk, no gaming. I want to see what the GPU freq it runs at most often in that 30 min. Then snap a screen shot and PM or post it here.
Hopefully someone will help me out with this.

Also, any particular reason you jumped to the G3?
EDIT: I run a very stock setup , running CM12 nightlies. No background apps like skype or whatever, either. Should be perfect for a comparison.

Perfect! Not really any particular reason besides same specs and slightly smaller bezel. Never figured the difference would be night and day. 1+1 wins in my book.
G3 battery life is horrid imho. I got 7-8hrs screen on almost daily. With he g3 only about 3 give or take. Got a 9000 mah battery now. Things a brick but I get 11-12 hrs screen on. Its sad. With this battery and my old 1+1 I'd feel comfortable in saying 20hrs screen on min probably 24

Yep the GPUs are working about the same. Has to be the screen it self that makes it such a hog whether it be the QHD since they both IPS displays.

Hi everyone,
As some of you may know, I maintain two kernels right now, Swell and Intoxicated Boeffla. The issue here is one produces astounding battery life, but some people run into stutters and stuff like that, while the other produces fantastic performance and okay battery life but is limited by being based off of Boeffla. My point? I want to start fresh yet again, I want to introduce one more kernel before I call it quits, and I want YOU to shape it from the very start... So I leave you with one very important question... What do you want to see from me?
I'm not an expert in this... but keeping your approach in thermal controls - Swell is really cold! - while achieving a good battery/performance balance, seems to be good for my personal use. :cyclops:
And Alucard or ElementalX governors! (I don't have the slightest idea how difficulty can be to implement such a thing - I'm just a noob who likes to tweak and experiment new settings!).
1. Stable.
2. Depending on individual - good to have 3 settings or/and profiles - a. Balance, b. Performance, and c. Battery.
3. Many features e.g. Stable governors, IO, tweak charge voltage.
4. Smooth like butter.
I am not sure why i tried all kernel on my Sultan cm13 but got fc. Only blu_spark is most stable so i always switch back.
For your swell, i got fc on zzmoove. Other than smartmax, whats the other stable governor? I think should only keep the stable governor.
Lastly, i thank your for your hard and excellent work.
I would be very interested in a performance oriented kernel from scratch. I don't care much for all the other governors, I think that one should stick to well known and tested governors like interactive and ondemand(I'm using slimrom with ondemand governor right now). It's not the most battery friendly governor but i just don't mind it because I really hate seeing lag and stutter on my phone and it's like you said, battery oriented kernels tend to cause stutters and lag. Many users probably don't even care about stutters like me (proof of that is that I see a lot of people saying that oxygen os works perfectly and with good performance lol). Ondemand makes the phone really fast and I don't mind having a bit lower battery life honestly. I wish I knew how to tweak ondemand better though
ISO fs capability would be i nice (yet mostly useless feature). Also honestly i got no idea how hard it is to implement sth like that. [emoji14]
However i'm pretty satisfied by ur swell kernel. Don't really miss anything :highfive:
