So this is probably one of the stupider questions on this forum but my Axon 7 won't let me choose "None" for the lock screen unlock. When I go into the security settings I only have the option of "Pattern, Pin or Complex Password" but the Swipe and the None options are greyed out. They read they are disabled by the administration, encryption policy or credential storage.
My device admins are only two programs, none of which are the lockscreen. I never installed any credentials and the phone is not encrypted...
I know that whatever it is, it's starring at me right in my face but I can't figure out what it is.
Help.

The Axon 7 as far as I know is Encrypted out of the box and when you setup any of the security lock screen, the only way to get it back to none is doing a factory reset and not enabling any of the security lock screen.

Didn't realize the phone encrypted itself when a security measure was done. Good to know. Thanks.

The phone encrypts on start up, it just uses default password and in such case can decrypt itself always. Once you set a security meassure, this password gets encrupted again with your key. This way the original key is always used for decrypting so that FS is not in need of decrypting/renecrypting on pass/pin change.
As far as the admin lockout. If you have setup exchange email account for instance, it has enforced the security method on you and will not let you remove it while you have account setup. Also, those admin apps can enforce security model of their own as well, so i would look at those as well.

I am considering one of these phones. I have a G1 now and like the specs on this better.
I use my phone to sync with Exchange 2007 and I see there are some issues with that. Not a big deal if I can get Touchdown working on this phone. That is what I use now and it is fine.
On to my question. Our security policy at work requires a password to unlock the screen on phones synced to our exchange server. I have seen where there is a screen lock to prevent pocket dials. Do they still have the option to enable the password pattern like what the older G1 has? Work was fine with that for a password.
Thanks
AFAIK, the built in active sync client does not support the enforecement of security policies. However, touchdown does support the enforecement of a 4 digit pin (and probably other security policies). This basically means that you must enter the pin you set when launching the touchdown application. It's not a bad implementation, but I do wish the android screen lock could somehow "qualify" as entering the pin.
Main screen -> Menu button -> Settings -> Location & Security
in there you will see the pattern settings.
(Yes pattern lock is available.)

Thanks. So it sounds like it is just like my G1. I don't have a N1 yet but before I ordered one I wanted to make sure.
I have a Nexus 10. I wanted to add my corporate email to the device. When I did I was told I had to add a pin number and encrypt the device. I performed both of these actions no problem. I rebooted the device twice during all of this and was able to enter my pin successfully and use the device.
Fast forward to this afternoon. After using the device for awhile I determined that the slowness caused by the encryption was no longer worth having my corporate account on the device.
I go into Settings and delete the corporate account. I tried to go into Security to remove the pin and encryption but both were greyed out. I thought all I had to do was reboot the device and I would be able to disable both.
I rebooted and now I'm stuck at the "Type password to decrypt storage". My pin no longer works on this screen. It keeps giving me a response of "Try again."
Does anyone know what's going on or how I can fix this?
I'm guessing the security is messed up (somehow, don't know how) from removing the corporate account.
But, just for future reference, the only way to remove encryption from an Android device is to factory reset it. It's not as simple as just going into security and removing encryption.

I heard and seen otherwise. I was shown, by someone who has a Nexus 10, that you can remove the encryption as long as you remove the account and removed the device from the OWA site.
Unfortunately, that person is no longer available to me to help.
So basically I'm screwed and all of my information on the device is gone. No one else has any thoughts?
Well, your data is probably lost, but you can easily factory reset it from recovery.

I think you can skip the password via adb. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800799

Unless I misread, or misunderstood it looks like that'll only work for *pattern* unlock not pin.
Edit: Nevermind, it looks like this post in that thread might have your answer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30285850&postcount=12
To the OP, if it's a simple pin, a brute force script or program could make short work of it in minutes (or hours at most; depending on length of password).

You saw a way to remove certificates for your corporate email account, not remove encryption from your device.
There is only one way to remove device encryption, and that is by factory reset, by design. It wouldn't be very secure otherwise.

Sorry, you heard wrong, or you were listening to a fruitcake. By definition you cannot "remove" encryption. It changes the whole file.
Think of it like this. I just scrambled an egg. Then I'm like "oh no! I don't like scrambled eggs! Can someone help me remove the scramble?"
It's not that easy. Sure, there is brute force, if your apps were THAT important it might be worth it to try.
But the short solution: factory reset your data, or give it the pin it wants.
Swiped from my Nexus 10 using xda-developers app
In the future, NEVER use the corporate account system built into iphone / android, this let's your company apply security policies that can wipe your device remotely, and your encryption junk. Use something like Touchdown app which still syncs your contacts, emails, and calendar into your device for any other app to use, but the security policies only get applied to Touchdown. I know this from experience when my former company's IT department "accidentally" wiped everybody's devices messing around in Exchange. "Whoops."
So the last time I tried selling my phone, took the cash from the guy and he left, he didn't have time to test the device at my place that it's working and he didn't bother since it's in brand new condition.
Next day while I'm at the movies, he calls me and tells me that the phone is asking him to sign in with the account that was previously synced to this device so he asked me for my email and password. My mistake was, I changed the password to something easy then gave it to him. He then tried to login but it would tell him to sign in with the account that was previously synced but this IS the account. That's when I learned that I shouldn't have changed my password as it would lock the device for 72 hous.
Now that the 72 hours have lapsed, I was able to login to the phone using my email and new password. But how do I sell it? how do I remove all this protection BS and make it in such a way that after a factory reset, the new owner can login with his account?

I am not sure if this is correct but I think you need to enable OEM UNLOCK.
This is accessed in developer options. You can enable developer options in settings. About device. Software info. Then tap on build 5 times to enable go back to settings and you should see developer options. Inside you will find OEM unlock. Let me know if it helps

thanks, I did that, just making sure there isn't anything else I needed to do
I think you have to remove FRP if you set it up in the first place. If you can remove that, everything should be fine after a factory reset.

No problem glad to help.
I can't seem to disable the finger print unlock and the pin unlock. It makes me use one or the other and all I want is the swipe unlock. I'v tried clearing credentials, I disabled every credential individually, I deactivated device administrators. Nothing works. Anyone>?
Only way Right now to disable Security lock is by doing Factory Reset,
ZTE knows about it and hope will be fix on the next update.....beside I guess there's more to play there.

You might have an app that is enforcing the lock policy, like for instance an exchange email account that enforces secure screen or a banking app and such. Also deactivate smart-lock under security/trust agents. But clearing credential storage should kinda reset all of it unless you have to clear all fingerprints as well
I want to turn off the lock screen, not even swipe, but there is no "none" option in Security settings. Originally, my phone was an Amazon ads phone, but I paid the $50 to get rid of ads (spent hours trying to remove using debloater tool from this website but hit brick wall). I thought maybe that was what was preventing the "none" lock screen option, but I still don't see it. I have Android 6.0.1.
Any suggestions? Does anyone who has an Amazon phone (with or without ads) see the "none" option in Security settings for lock screen? (with Android 6.0.1+)
Thanks!
I believe the issue you are experiencing is related to the presence of a guest account. On older versions of the g if there was a guest account the none option for the screenlock disappeared. I just tried to disable the guest account on my prime g4, but don't see a way to actually remove the account.
I can't seem to figure out how to remove/disable the guest user account...

Unless you're rooted I don't believe you can remove it.
