So I've been thinking.. Some Moto X (2014) users have reported that their backs, whether wood, leather or plastic, have begun to peel, especially at the corners. Others have reported that the back doesn't fit perfectly with the device so there are small gaps.
To see the backs peeling, go to 3:35 on this video:
Judging from the pictures and render so far, it looks like the Nexus 6's back will probably be plastic.
Another issue that has come to my attention is the dimple on the Moto X (2014). Some users have reported that their dimples don't fit exactly into place and move around. Forward to 1:00:
Will the possibility of the back peeling or the dimple moving around deter anyone from buying this device?*
*Assuming that the Nexus 6 has the same type of dimple as the Moto X (2014)
As for what I have seen the dimple on the Nexus 6 is not the same on the 2014 Moto X, its all one piece dimpled into the back (just like the 2013 Moto X was). So I am not worried for that.
As for "Peeling". I am not sure. Again the back of this device looks more compared to the 2013 Moto X but larger and with the Flash Ring. The least we can hope for is that because there are not so many separate pieces to this back panel there will be less of a chance for pressure and potential "peeling".
In the end of the day however, I will likely case my N6 as soon as I can get one available. I like having my devices to be as indestructible as bricks.
I think the back of the Nexus 6 will be the soft touch plastic that people liked on the Nexus 5. It probably will be more durable. And as Dr Faustus (great name) said, the dimple is like on the 1st Gen Moto X, so there's no issue there.
Some of these issues with the Moto X I think will be ironed out if you wait a few months. There are often manufacturing issues with a new device that get worked out better later. Sometimes even minor design changes come later. I think it's a mistake to be the first to get a particular phone, you're just making yourself a guinea pig for the rest of us. There could be issues with the Nexus 6 too, when it first starts shipping. I wouldn't buy that straight away either.
That being said, I do like the dimple design on the Nexus 6 much better. The dimple on the 2nd Gen Moto X is just ugly. It's like cheap bling. It mars and otherwise nice design.
Hey Guys,
I've been looking into buying the Moto X (I think we are all drooling over it) and I came across some post about some QC issues with defective devices and things like that. I'm wondering how many of you are actually having these issues and if so, how is Motorola customer service and can you easily get a new phone without much hassle?
No issues with mine.

There is no device in these forms free of vast complaints.
I have reached a point, where if several reputable review sites have no issues. The complaints to me are outliers.
Dive in and use the return policy if things don't work out.

I don't have my phone yet, but I had quality control issues with my Nexus 6. Motorola support is great. They kept sending me like new phones and each one had a screen problem. After 3 replacements they gave me $50 in Motorola credit and finally sent me a brand new phone. And that's the one I am using now. But yeah their support is really good and they try to help you out.
No issues with mine. Very good build. Feels as good as any phone out there.
Mine is perfect.
I have no issues with my moto x at all, love the phone. Battery life, build quality, cell signal is great, the screen is bright and crisp.

I had a device delivered with a screen that wouldn't turn on. The phone itself was on because I could get haptic feedback and audio tones when I adjusted the volume, but no matter what I did I couldn't get the screen to come on. I spent roughly 4 hours jumping through hoops for tech support before they would issue a replacement. I'm now waiting for that replacement, and have decided that if the replacement is faulty in any way I will be returning it and not giving them a third chance. We'll see. All I can say is it has so far been a pretty awful experience, and I can't in good conscience recommend it to anyone else.
One of my speaker grill covers was VERY lopsided, the left side was below being flush with the surface of the phone and the right side stuck up to where the bottom of it was exposed. I tried pushing it back in, but it fell out instead. I couldn't make it stay after that, so I put in for a replacement and they said it would be at least 2 weeks, maybe more. So in the mean time I super-glued the speaker grill back in and it has held good for the last week. Since that was my ONLY problem, I cancelled my replacement and am going to keep my current one as I'm afraid I may get one with another, worse, issue.
Moto X Pure Return Process Not so Bad
I received a Moto X Pure with a slight imperfection on the display. Half of the screen is a slight shade different than the other half. Everything else on the phone is perfect, and I think it is a great device. That being said, I called Motorola and they are replacing my device with a new one, and it won't cost me a penny. I get to keep using my current device until I receive the new one, and they emailed me a return shipping label for the defective unit as well as a redemption code to go onto Moto Maker to build my replacement device. I haven't received the replacement yet, but I am having a pretty positive experience so far with the process. I say go for it and just order one.
Hello guys! My LG G2 (d802) got cracked and unfortunatly my touch got partly damaged and the phone is at the current stand unusable.
As I am pretty dependent on having a working phone, I bought a galaxy s6, however I miss the development which the LG G2 has with masters like @dorimanx and @Cloudyfa.
So, I want to repair it and I wounder if there is any people in here who have done it whic have any dealers of a new g2 (d802) screen to recommend? Any thoughts on how hard it is to repair the screen on G2, and good vidoes on how to do it are highly appriciated!
Hello,
Seeing as though no one has replied I will
I have replaced the screen on my G2 a couple times, along with my partners Galaxy S4 plus dozens of others, I repair phones for a bit of extra cash. IMO the G2 and S4 are what I would call easy to repair, if you are confident you can be careful enough I say go ahead.
I buy screens from eBay and various online stores, I have never had an issue with a replacement off ebay. You can buy the screen by itself or you can buy the screen already fitted to a frame, if you get the one in the frame, while it is slightly dearer, it saves you alot of time removing the broken screen and fitting the new one to your frame. All you would have to do is remove everything from your phone and fit it to the new frame. Watch a couple videos on youtube on replacing the screen on the G2 to get an idea.
BTW my G2 was the first phone I replaced a screen on and I had no issues
Thanks! I will probably order a g2 screen on ebay, hopefully it will come before christmas
I have changed the galaxy s3 screen before so I probably have the "skills" to repair it, I hope.
If you have replaced a screen on an S3 then the G2 should be no trouble at all
Good luck mate!
Note4 for ANOTHER V20? (with T-Mobile's black Friday deal). I am tempted big time. Still use my note4 a lot. Stylus and amoled will be missed big time. I still have another white note4 dedicated as dashcam but that doesn't count. I wouldn't have an amoled device or note to use. But to get another v20 for $200 I could sell all my amps, moto x pure, moto g, and my HTC M8. Ugh. Should I? Should you?
My note4 is so heavily modded and runs smooth. Just took it apart and fixed the GPS issue so many people were having. Has some sentimental value too. Only phone I've had two full years.

I cracked my display trying to get my N4 apart to fix the gps issue. I need the gps for my work.
That's how I ended up with V20 after trying nexus 6p and note 7.
I'll never buy another sammy phone unless they fix the horrendous sound quality or lack there of.
Sound quality of headphone jack or loudspeaker? How's you break the screen? Not careful or patient? I dodnt even have the spider to help with screen and I came out golden. I am leaning g towards keeping mine because of s pen and watching videos when v20 is charging since battery is awesome on amoled phones when watching YouTube or movies. I still use my note 4 ebough I forget about software nav buttons, which are preferable to me, and I find myself trying to hit a home button that isn't there or touching my camera lens because of getting used to fingerprint scanner on v20. Still so damn tempting. Battery life is comparable between the two phones though. V20 does better web browsing and note4 much better with videos.
Not sure how long I've have my ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML) but I feel like it's about time I move on to another device.
Things I've replaced so far:
- Touchscreen assembly; first device I've had that seemed prone to getting its screen cracked (replaced 3 or 4 times)
- Battery; punctured the original battery while replacing the original touchscreen assembly
- Lower board/charging port; broke the first one while replacing touchscreen and again when the second one wouldn't fast charge
- Speaker; must have gotten the original one wet or something because it just suddenly stopped working
Also, I've noticed that the gyroscope, orientation, and magnetic field sensors have stopped functioning, rendering apps like Maps and Pokémon GO difficult to use.
The straw that broke the camel's back was that the screen cracked while in my pocket last night. The screen was against my thigh with nothing else in that pocket.
It has been a mostly reliable device and I would recommend it to others.
I've already ordered a new device; a Moto G4 Plus.
It's been real, guys.
Good choice mate. As a matter of fact, I have moved on as well to Moto G5S+
I always baby my phones and never dropped, damaged or even scratched a single one.
For the first time ever, I had to replace the screen of my ZE551ML due to ghost touches earlier this year... while my old Samsung Galaxy Nexus is still running strong.
Now only 6 months later, the ghost touches are back (as well as a thick dead horizontal line on the lower half of my screen) but go away when I run this app.
I have no idea why it works, but it does.
As well, whenever I scroll it reads it as a tap.
Just waiting for my Mi A1 to arrive and I'm abandoning ship.

Looks like you made a pretty good choice too! I probably would have chosen the same phone if I had known about it, but the Moto G4 Plus was the most attractive choice that was in my price range. Plus I'm really liking the idea of having a fingerprint scanner.
Have you flashed any custom ROMs on your G5S+?

I think the screen is the biggest issue for me. When I bought my ZF2, the screen was already cracked. Bought a new one, changed it out (with a few difficulties) and everything seemed fine. Then I started noticing that the screen would flicker every so often, especially after charging or being asleep for a while. That screen ended up cracking, followed by two more that had the bottom half of the screen becoming glitchy. The screen I have now is, for whatever reason, very sensitive and wakes up often in my pocket.
It was a good phone but I think it's increasingly obvious that its bit dated, as well as very unsupported.
Same reason here. Screen got damaged. That's why I was forced to change the mobile.
After 2½ years I got the tearing screen, bought a lcd+frame replacement on aliexpress and replaced it easily, only things I have changed on my phone, still run strong.
I cannot find another phone better that this for the price, ze551ml has an antutu of 55000, SD card, 2 SIMs, buttons not on screen taking estate, 5GHz ac wifi, NFC, quick charge, FHD display, FM radio, smart cover, etc. I got all of this for $199.
I checked the G5S+ but no NFC in the US. About all the sub $300 phone have a Snapdragon 430 which is slower than this 3yo Intel.
Even the G4+ with a snapdragon 617 is slower than the ZF2 in all becnhmark.
Things like Zenfone 4 Max only has a 720p display, slower CPU, no 5GHz, no NFC, no quick charge, nothing!!!

I'll loose 2gb RAM but it's a nice phone either way and there's a plenty of development for it right now (this made me choose it over Xiaomi Mi A1).

Yeah, I was kind of bummed out they the G4+ doesn't have NFC but I don't really use NFC anyway. I also noticed that the clock speed for the processor for the G4+ is a tad lower than the ZF2; I'm fine with that though. At this point, I'd rather something with better support than slightly better specs.
Other than the processor, they're basically identical: 5.5" 1080x1920 screen, 64GB ROM, 4GB RAM. And I'm really liking the idea of having a fingerprint scanner.
And, actually, according to this, the processor in the G4+ is slightly better:

Have you looked on Swappa? I had seen a G5+ for about $200 (for the 64GB; $170 for the 32GB) on there yesterday. I mean, that's assuming that you're in the US. https://swappa.com/buy/moto-g5-plus-unlocked
The G4+ that I ended up buying only cost me $150. As I've mentioned, the one I'm getting doesn't really lose anything except for NFC but I don't really use that anyway.
To me, the ZF2 is like an old car; works really well when you take care of it but the cost of maintaining ends up being too much and it's just cheaper in the long run to get something a little newer.
The only thing I had to replace (under warranty) was the battery, never had any other problems. Still using Zenfone 2 after two years and a half because I don't have any issues with it. Will eventually change it too, but I guess that will be when the phone won't keep up with apps and games anymore or when it gets damaged somehow.

I have my ZE551ML for something like two years now. I moving to the Galaxy S7 in a week. I really tired of the battery life, I have to charge my phone twice a day if I have a long day...
The Zenfone was a good option because it was cheap but now, it's time to move !

The battery life was pretty good at the beginning but I noticed that the battery started draining fairly quickly, even when the phone was just sitting on my desk overnight.
