I just noticed, coming from the S3 my N2 runs relatively cool. Battery temp is 27-38 degrees celcius even when playing graphic intensive games while tormenting. While the highest cpu temp I saw was 53. Compare this with my s3 battery temp 36-48 and cpu temp 60.
How about you guys?

Always cold and with full battery.
Our cpu made better than in S3. We can handle 1.8Ghz overclock with out any heating problems.

Absolutely. I had the note 1 and browsing the web or doing heavy use will burn the battery like blazing hot (50°C). I have yet to see my note 2 past 38°C no matter what I do.

But when I play heavy games like NFS or Asphalt 7 the upper part of the screen became hot? are you face the same issue?
secondly, can you tell me the name of application which is used to monitor the CPU temp?
thank you

Thats pretty normal since that is where the CPU/GPU is located.. Though what worries me is a LOT of heat is transmitted to the microSD.. I dont know but I believe it can significantly impact the over all life span of the microSD.

but it shows the battery temp only and doesn't show the CPU temp?
Could it be that you're using the note2 during the in the winter and the gs3 summer that the gs3 appears to run hotter?
I run the GN2 in summer here and it does appear to be warming up a bit, more then I'd like it to be (it feels warm in the hand)
my battery temp when on standby-surfing mode ranges from 32°C~36+°C and when I play games like Asphalt 7, etc. it ranges from 37°C~43°C...don't know if this is acceptable, but I feel hotness when I play games in my device...

Hi all I have spent same time in last days playing Real Racing 3. Very nice game.
While playing the temperature of my N4 became very high. It's a 1.5 quadcore with GPU working hard so it should be normal. But I saw, in system tuner, that while gaming it can reach even 70 Celsius. Is it normal this temperature in gaming or should I be worried?
What about your temperature in gaming?
PS: for the battery this game can drain all the battery in less than 2 hours, but even this should be normal because without gaming it usually reach 4 hours screen on, so 2 hours of hard gaming should be normal.
Let me know.

mine gets 49celcius after 20mins of NFS MW Used to get 58celcius after 1 hours. But sometimes I feel it's normal after 20min of NFS, maybe it depends on the stage I am playing

Damn compared to your temperature mine are extremely high. What rom and kernel do you use? And what is your CPU bin? I have cyanogenmod M2, stock cyano kernel and fast CPU.

I think your temp is normal.
I use stock rom, franco kernel, UV 150, fast CPU bin.

Ok maybe common but IMO this temperatures are pretty high. I just hope to not damage my device to play sometime. Heat is the worst enemy of electronic components.
And for this I like UV a bit but I don't know if CyanogenMod kernel makes different voltages according to different CPU binning.
I hope so.

What are the safe operating temps? I tried real racing 3 as the first game I tired on the N4 and as soon as it heated up I uninstalled it in fear of burning my device up.

phew! good to know that I'm not the only one with this heat up problem but I guess its not a problem
Got my n4 just yesterday and immediately started downloading Hd intense games
and because of all the playing I have to charge my phone twice a day now...
ive seen 100C cpu temp on my device, then again i was trying to reach it. i wouldnt worrry too much about the heat. if your device gets warm enough then the heat throttle will automatically kick in. itll reduce your cpu speed and cool down the device. if you keep pushing your device past the thermal throttle, itll eventually hit the automatic thermal safety shutdown temp, which will automatically turn off your device to cool it down.
R: N4 and gaming temperatutes
Good to know that I'm not the only one with this temperatures... In first moment I thought of down clocking GPU and CPU... But damn it's not possible to have a mobile with quad core and powerful GPU that can't handle the heat. So I hope they managed it well and get used to a burning phone while gaming.

Generally, you should not let your phone temperature get greater than 50°C. Otherwise, you risk permanently heat-damaging the battery.

100C is the safety shutdown temp for the nexus 4, your phone wont melt at that temp. my gnex has hit 110C many many times, thats the shut down temp for the gnex.
you have to realize that there are two different temp readings, cpu temp and battery temp. while your battery reaching 50C isnt safe, 50C for the cpu is still relatively cool, and does not put your phone into danger.

Hi i've just got my new S4 I9500 octacore from my carrier here in my country argentina, it came loaded with default stock firmware, but I need to know if these temps are normal.
I'm posting a youtube video so you can see what's going on... Are these temps normal, first of all
- Demand mode with throttling up to 1600 ghz ,CPU temp rises to around 75-80 C while playing modern combat 4
- Demand mode limiting max cpu to 1000 ghz CPU temp goes around 60C
So I've seen some videos of guys doing a performance test, while gaming and they checked with system tuner CPU temp and had after 5 minutes of gaming with Modern combat around 52C and with throttling mode I believe with max CPU speed to 1.6hhz so is my phone defective?
We all know there's no thermal compound or discipation on these cpu's like on notebooks.
Tomorrow I'm going to ask for another phone and see if I get the same temps, if not what do I have left flash a custom rom ? undervolt ?
I've seen some people checking the temp of the phone but only having as a referecne the external thermistor which is not an accurate way of measuring temp.
Basically I don't want to end up with a brick, as you know high temps on this Lead free solder BGA's, start to make solder joints brittle and crack. Then you come up with wifi not working, because the BGA chips's actually desoldered.
I couldn't place the link cause I'm not allowed to paste as a first time user, sorry
This is the youtube video link youtube.com/watch?v=f-tYmOgOQ34
The Exynos5 OCTA CPU can get even much higher (90C) so it's pretty normal.
About the other Videos, are you sure that what you saw was the CPU temps and not just the overall device temperature?
These are normal temperatures, you're reading the on-core sensors. Most apps and users don't know about them.

Yup I'm pretty sure it was the CPU core temp what I saw , let me show you the link from the guy who did the performance test check it here
he was using system tuner. Here this guy shows about 52 C after playing modern combat 4. Why on earth am I getting like 75C with on demand throttling ? . If this phone can reach as high as 90C as it's got no heat discipation it's going to die in less than a month. Is there any way to undervolt with the stock rom from my carrier without using a custom kernel ?
youtube.com/watch?v=Cg7VKs1EMww << check this link guy showint 52 C after gaming MC 4
Because that's not the CPU temperature he's reading, that's the temperature measured by the charger chip.

No it's not that's the CPU core die temp , I can tell you for sure cause it's the thermal sensor within /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/curr_temp I opened both system tuner and cool tool to verify it

He's saying it's mostly the sensor on the battery charger, but I could veriiy it's the on die cpu temperature.. the external temperature he says it's the external thermistor and it's not the one I'm using , not even the one from the guy on the video.

You're right, System Tuner seems to read them out correctly (he updated the app). But it still doesn't matter. The temperature drop from 75°C to 50 range within a fraction of a second, that's video is still worthless since he still didn't have it running in the background.
These are normal CPU running temperatures.

I think its normal
My Note 2 CPU temp gets around 75- 80c ( but i think the device from outside feels like 40-45c ) after 5 - 6 minutes of running the CPU on full load in cold room but as AndreiLux said the temp goes to around 50c in eye blink
and don't forget Exynos 5410 is way more powerful than 4412 :good:
Andrei I didn't know you were in charge of developing Perseus Kernel for the S4. Would it be good if I change the kernel to yours, I was thinking in undervolting it to improve the temps. Have you tried undervolting it ? and know which are stable voltages for both Little and Big arm ?.
On the other hand , can you guide me abit on flashing, I got my carrier stock rom now and I don't want to screw it up or brick it. It's not unlocked. So can you guide me out how to flash say the best custom rom ? ( is it wanama ) and how to flash your kernel perseus ? do I need to download the rom separately and kernel aside ?.
I have been using TempMonitor app with great accuracy, it includes temperature in the status bar and you can easy check the actual CPU temp.
My temp readings is about 38C to 55C depends, Skype goes higher temp up to 58C

Nothing much to say,
only bad luck the unit is defective temp jumps from 35-80c, usb works only first 10min after you power on the device ,i live in Vienna warranty is not worth anything here because
phone is purchased from world wide distributors California US(EU warranty, and US warranty not the same thing).
Phone act same with official rom and with custom rom (temps and usb fault)
for charging i use wireless charging kit ,the usb connector is not broken or defective in any way ,

So you say the unit is defective yours? it jumps from 35 to 80 C in what kind of tests? can you detail me a little bit more. Mine jumped to 80C while doing heavy stress tests like gaming on modern combat 4 if I left the unit to throttle doing the governor scheduling of the cpu from 250mhz to 1.6mhz.
I need you to install a couple apps, Cool Tool so you can see in real time the temperature , go to labels , choose custom label --> advanced tuning --> custom label choose prefix and write CPU TEMP , select postfix and write @ C. Then go to advanced and under Custom Label Path write down /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/curr_temp that way you'll have a status on top showing the cpu temp.
If you can please install it so you can see how the cpu frequency it's jumping from a low state while doing any task I'll be grateful
Hi, installed cool tool same temp values as in temp monitor , i did a screen record with some simple tasks so You can see how phone act , uploading rar now on zippyshare.

Hi
I don't know if there is a other thread about this question, but here is my question. How hot does your cpu get with the Samsung Galaxy S5 Quad-core? Mine is usual from 45-57 Degree. Is this a good value or to high? Thanx for any help or comparison with your devices.

Yes there are existing threads about temperature (but few bother to search).
Your temperatures are normal. 35 - 45C here under light load. Perhaps 65C under heavy load. 85C in a semi-race condition e.g. a bootloop. Those with bunker type cases probably run a lot hotter due to the impared heat dissipation.
It would be great if Qualcom or Samsung gave us a real spec. But they don't. But we can compare to PC cpus and graphics processors that routinely run hotter than that, so I don't see any cause for concern.
.
Thanx now I'm ok again. I was thinking it's a little to high. Great forum and thanx for the speedy answer.
Just one more question. Do you like the S5 and do you think it's a better buy than a iPhone 5S?
My highest is 71C
Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G900F met Tapatalk
Only 71C? I can tell you firsthand that the S5 will automatically shut down if you hit 100C. Accidentally messed up the thermal control settings for my kernel...

the problem is not much in the CPU as it is tested for higher temperatures but for the battery ... as the heat is definitely deleterious ..rather than putting mods (which modify the thermal) I recommend a good custom kernel or alternatively if you want to save battery use morpho (ex spectrum) obviously you must have the root

i've been using my note 7 with thermal mod for about 6 months now, and the highest temp i ever got was 47°c and that was me playing pubg on extreme+smooth settings with the charger on. be very careful when playing on high temps for long period of time as it will destroy your battery like it did with my redmi note 4.

ok but guys do you realize what you're doing? if you play games that require a lot of resources it is obvious that the CPU and GPU heat up now if you didn't know there are pads specially created for this ... they cost about 20 euros, you place the phone in this pad and behind it there is a fan mounted and in addition there are function keys obviously it connects via Bluetooth, and for those who love these games it is the only real solution especially if you spend many hours playing, I have never had thermal problems indeed actually on a leEco the 2 yes but it was a problem that was due to the charging settings too aggressive. so since changing a battery today is not easy and above all it is better to save the phone with one of these pads ...
