Can't Read Encrypted Files - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I factory reset my phone and now I can't view my MicroSD card's contents. I've tried to encrypt/decrypt and it's the same pattern. They won't open on my PC either. This is so frustrating and I REALLY don't want to format my card.
Any help is appreciated.

Anyone? I really DON'T want to format my SD card.

Was it encrypted prior to factory resetting?

Yes! It was encrypted months ago. I think my mistake was that I didn't DECRYPT prior to factory resetting. Do you know of any solutions?

I'm afraid there is no other solutions that I know of rather than formatting the card. The purpose of encryption is to keep you protected against device lost/stolen so it does make all the sense that the card can't be access by anybody for security reasons.

But it's the same phone with the same passcode. For future sake, you're saying I should have DECRYPTED before factory resetting, correct?

As said Geoz , the only way is to format , unfortunately .

The internal 12GB is referred to as SD... And as far as I know, it gets wiped.

I've already done two resets, they don't touch the SD. It says that right under the reset button.

Well it says SD card, but if you can confirm the internal storage doesn't get wiped then I guess it is what it is. I've got too much time invested customizing mine to test what the reset does and doesn't clear...

[Q] Accidentally formatted internal memory

I have a Nook Simple Touch and I just bought it yesterday. I accidentally formatted its internal memory and now it keeps asking me to restart and restart. What should I do?
welcome in my sad world :crying:
Formatting internal memory does not cause trouble . connect nook with usb cable to computer . after appearance of "Nook" drive , reformat it . likely your problem is solved ...

Well, it depends on what you mean for internal memory. I erased all the 8 partitions, and I can't recover anything, I tried every way of the forum but nothing works for me.

Do you have the ST or STG? I messed up the system on my STG and is now running the software of ST. Since I cannot find any factory image of the STG, I just order another Nook. My plan is to backup the rom and factory partitions and make a image from the new Nook, apply it to the old and overwrite the rom + factory partitions.
If you have the STG, I can send you a full STG image once I have it (the new nook should arrive in a week or so). From this you should be able to recover the partition tables and the software (I guess, I am pretty new to this). Your only problem will then be that you are missing the original rom and factory images.
Let me know if this would be useful for you.
Thanks!

I have the ST but if your Nook actually works with ST factory image you could backup that one, I really will appreciate that!

Sure (see PM). I seem to recall that there is a UK version of the Nook (I might be wrong). Note that mine is a US version.
Perfect!

If the data has already been formated, then you can't recover it. It's gone.

Dude. Don't rage.
Formatting data=deleting it permanently
You can't recovery formatted data. It's gone.
Next time, remember to do a backup.
If you google "recover formatted pics nexus 4" and have a read of the results then you will find progs for your pc/mac and apps for the phone that say you can recover your files from both internal sd(os side) and the sd card(data side).
You can use the trial versions to see what is recoverable but if you want the actual recovery then you will have to pay,its up to you.

Tried one of those when I accidentally formatted my Desire's sd-card. It didn't recover anything, and destroyed my hopes among it
I agree with him.... It's all gone if you formatted the data... Sorry bro

MicroSD Card Won't Read

I was trying to flash los when my phone died and then I could access my microsd card on my phone or pc. Any known solution? I tried to look up a fix but couldn't find any.
I've tried formatting but it fails and then my pc says that there's no disk in the port after a while even though it's still there.

Maybe try formatting to ext4 in TWRP? Might not fix anything at all, but is worth a shot.

I'm going to contact customer support. Hopefully someone can help.
Did you get the B02 OTA update? I hear that one broke microSD cards over 64GB.

Back-up failed.

I want to ask for help. I cannot seem to do a backup on twrp. It says something like this.
Backing up boot.img
Backup failed. Cleaning backup folder.
Any suggestions on fixing this?

There could be 2 main reasons. Your sd card doesn't have enough space, or sd card is unmounted during backup. Or even your storage could be encrypted

You can try, but i dont think it will help because the files itself are encrypted. So wiping internal storage + data would be your only option
Thanks man. Ill try doing it.
