If the data has already been formated, then you can't recover it. It's gone.

Dude. Don't rage.
Formatting data=deleting it permanently
You can't recovery formatted data. It's gone.
Next time, remember to do a backup.
If you google "recover formatted pics nexus 4" and have a read of the results then you will find progs for your pc/mac and apps for the phone that say you can recover your files from both internal sd(os side) and the sd card(data side).
You can use the trial versions to see what is recoverable but if you want the actual recovery then you will have to pay,its up to you.

Tried one of those when I accidentally formatted my Desire's sd-card. It didn't recover anything, and destroyed my hopes among it
I agree with him.... It's all gone if you formatted the data... Sorry bro

Can someone help me out it would be greatly appreciated. How would I make sure my phone is safe to sell as far as security reasons go? I dont want any of my personal information still on here. I'm running cm7 and i just did a factory reset and connected my phone to my computer and moved everything from mnt/emmc to my computer but when i go under file manager on my phone there seems to still be some files left behind? are these safe to leave? How would i go about preparing my phone to sell. Some of the files in /mnt/emmc are stuff like .spotlight-v100, .Trashes, .adobe, .taggedFriendPhotos, LOST.DIR, and theres some other stuff aswell
You should definitely format the internal storage, use your computer. There's nothing left after that.

Okay how do I do that. I'm on mac. And under security>factory reset it told me it would wipe the internal storage but I guess that didn't really do anything. So after I connect it to my computer then what do I do?

Ouch, sorry mate, I never even touched a Mac..
Never touched a mac, but
in windows you open the file manager. find your device , should be listed as a "usb storage" device. Right click and choose format.
ta-da!
H'm it seems like the factory reset should have got rid of these files. Should I worry about them? And would formatting on my computer get rid of these files?

what kind of files you talking about?
".spotlight-v100, .Trashes, .adobe, .taggedFriendPhotos, LOST.DIR, and theres some other stuff aswell." Folders like these....and there not deleting even after a factory reset
You can always use fastboot and erase userdata, data, cache etc
factory reset doesnt touch your internal storage. it only wipes /data and /system
use the FORMAT sdcard option in the settings....
you could do a fastboot -w and then install a fruitcake, can't you? i've never used -w before, dunno if it deletes everything on the internal storage or not.
I have gone through quite a bit of phones until i got to this one and all you really need to do is restore factory defaults and keep your sd card

except that this one has INTERNAL storage where a lot of other phones do not....especially most HTC phones
you have to format internal sd or there will be lots of data left on the phone

Exactly. The Atrix has its internal SD and an external. If you go into Menu > Settings > Storage, you should be able to wipe the memory of your two SD cards.

One problem here though, cm7 doesn't properly format. Once you try doing this you can't mount.

I accustomed to storing their audio or video file like photos into a mini memory stick. However, how can we recover them once lost? What can I do ? Any software like Power Data Recovery?? 3Q for your advice.
Wait, what does this have to do with Win8? I'm confused (or maybe you are)...
Assuming "memory stick" (whatever the <REDACTED> that is) exposes itself as a standard block-storage device, you can probably use whatever recovery tools you're used to... no guarantee they'll work, though.
I've had a positive experience using MiniTool Power Data Recovery.
It worked wonders on a flash disk that apparently lost its data, but with this software I could recover most of them, although with very ugly file names.
There are 4 options which can be confusing but I've mostly used Digital Media Recovery and Undelete Recovery.
For non media files, the result wasn't so great but I recovered some files from an almost defective SD card.

yup, any recovery software will do, just defrag first before recovering for best result

Worst result dont you mean... Recovery software relies on the fact that when deleting a file it is simply removed from the file table but the data itself is still present. Defragging will move files around and will now believe where your file previously existed is now unallocated space and will happily over-write it. For recovery software to work at its best you need to ensure as few changes are made to the file system as physically possible.
SixSixSevenSeven is correct. Leaving aside the fact that defragging a flash storage device (like a memory stick, SD card, SSD, CompactFlash, etc.) is a terrible idea in general*, it will drastically reduce your chances of being able to recover any data at all. If you have already done a defrag, the odds are very good that your data is now unrecoverable.
* Win7 and up know not to actually defrag Flash-based storage, but what they do instead - called TRIM, and intended to optimize the storage - is almost as bad for purposes of data recovery. TRIM tells the "disk" that the physical memory cells which were storing the data of deleted files are no longer needed, which typically has the effect of zeroing the data.
I have an External sd card issue after updating to 4.4, now I know there are alot of people experiencing access issues but mines is different and wanted to know if you guys are having the same crap, so I can access my ext sd no prob but unfortunately I cannot right any data to it anymore, if I try a full reformat of the ext sd card in my phone it will format and after it will rebuild and come back with pics and music etc, if I try to reformat it in the pc it will not, when I take pictures and it goes to the external sd it will be gone or become corrupt when I reboot, anyone having the same issues???
its less then a year old sandisk 64gb class 10 it would be weird but its also a coincidence it happened only after I updated to 4.4....
Its not weird at all. If you google about that you will find a fix. But first you have to be rooted.
You are going to add media_rw to your platform.xml.
Just google a bit. And you'll find the answer.

Yes. You have to wait for your app to be updated by the dev. I have several apps that is already kitkat compatible. They can write or delete in my ExtSdCard. Anyway. The best way is to root your device. Thats all.
I think it sounds more like what happened to my SD card. It became Read Only and I had to send it back for a replacement. Nothing to do with KitKat.
Check out this thread and I hope it helps (solved) 64gb sd card stuck on read only
This is not the KitKat issue, the Stock Camera was one of the first apps to be updated...
Does this also happen with a different SD?

I had a dodgy microsd not to long ago. It was really screwed, couldn't be read or write to. After formatting a zillion times on all my different devices, I tried a recovery program I had got when I accidentally wiped my 1tb hdd. To my surprise after recovering all the media on the card; I cant remember if there was an option to restore partiton table, but it worked like normal again.
Anyway here's the name of the program:
MiniTool Power Data Recovery
http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/
-looking at it now.
Once you've formatted your sd-card try recovering the media on it (free version only does 1gb). Then try testing again see if its fixed.
If it doesn't do anything there is a couple of other options.
- Damaged partion recovery and lost partion recovery. I'd give these a try and do a quick format after doing so.
Hopefully this program helps, it brought a dead card right back to life for me.
Not affiliated with this program in any way.

Hi,
For me it's not acceptable to have a device with ext SD support but able to use it!
I spend nearly one hour to copy to another card, reformat, check files, virus, Fat32 but nothing helps!
connected thru OTG, it's possible to write file but impractical, I hope next update or utility would be avaible.
If I understand, it's related to the Knox security?
I didn't tested Knox, it's not free am I right?

Try this from Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.defianttech.diskdigger
If that doesn't work try searching for UNDELETE on Google Play. Or come up with your own creative search keywords. You'll see a whole heap of recovery apps like thsi. These have varying effectiveness. 5 might not work, but the 6th one might work like a charm.
I've used apps like this before and they worked like 90% of the time for me. Meaning like 9 out of 10 photos would be found and be recoverable, but the 10th one had already been overwritten by other data. Nothing you can do about that situation.
In the mean time, don't take anymore pictures or download big files. Those could overwrite the spot on the sd card where the photos are located.
Im assuming these are photos of a beuatiful woman....so you can thank me if this works by sending me the photos.

How about if you root it, put a custom recovery on it, flash a jelly bean rom, then mount the internal sd on the pc and recover the delted files that way.
Just be sure not to wipe the internal SD in recovery. Just wipe the data.

Wiping data should leave media and internal storage alone. So pics and stuff I believe should still be there.
You not coming from a really old ROM to new are you and the path has changed ?
As in the emulated sdcard/0 or whatever it is.
